In todays episode we talk about Hugh's  process of finishing his book. He also shares about his wild experience of hosting storytelling events in London. We come across Tarot Reading and how it is linked to archetypes, which are understood as universal, inborn models of the personality. Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung's theory suggested that "All the most powerful ideas in history go back to archetypes.“   Interesting ...  exciting even ....

Today we talk about the book Hugh is currently writing with the working title “Everything is breaking and everything will be fine”. The title gives a hint of  the wealth of topics it traverses.  It is filled with true and traditional  stories about hypnosis, therapy and language from Uzbekistan to Los Angeles and from Health & Safety to Lindy Hop. It is a rewarding book about the hard path  from knowledge to understanding, like a large slice of a rich and delicious chocolate cake. ;)

Today we discuss therapy:  how to get in to it,  and how how to get out of it.

How can you find the right therapist?

What flavour is right for you?

What is the significance of all the different types of psychotherapy?

Is there anything else we can do if we don't want to go into therapy?

There are no perfect people, so there are no perfect therapists - but does it matter if the therapist themselves has had therapy?

Is that good or bad?   Listen in to catch some opinions and feel free to email us your own.... at hughwillbourn@gmail.com or lechtenberg.lea@gmail.com.

The PowerHouse sets off on a spiritual path!  - well sort of...

Today we look at spirituality.  What is it and why does it cause so much confusion?

We don't talk about religion,  but we do touch on why and how it is difficult to be honest,  on the trap of goals, and the value of principles.

The great Jay Haley once said,  "We cannot not influence each other."  If that is true, how do we live with it?Listen in, have fun, and please send us feedback athughwillbourn@gmail.com or lechtenberg.lea@gmail.com.

We all want to  "Do the Right Thing", but the phrase can be misleading.  The secret of life, like comedy, is timing: maybe right now  is not the right time to do the right thing.    And sometimes, in fact, the right thing to do  is nothing.    Maybe we do not  have to react to every incoming question, request or provocation.  Salesmen love to tell you that their offer is a 'once in a lifetime' opportunity, in order to convince you to buy.   It may be better to wait for the next 'once in a lifetime' opportunity to come along.

Today we explore inaction as a path to fulfillment.

In this episode we wandered around the topic of confidence.  What is it?  How does it work? Why do so many people still wonder about it even though so much has already been written about it?   We start by exploring why it matters and then move on to insights and techniques to improve confidence.       There is even a bit of philosophy in this episode - but don't worry. Just when it is getting difficult we reach the goal and move on.    Towards the end, the energy gets interesting and can inspire you to take action...

In this edition will look at the illusion of the quick fix.

Some things we really can fix quickly, others we can't, but the underlying question is,  "Do we understand what we are trying to fix?"   Often we can fix a problem, and then discover that the real cause of our troubles is something different.

We talk about how to stop smoking, how to be true to ourselves and the extraordinary value of humility.

The Solitary Path to Love - Part 2

We are still talking about relationships!    How do you know how to choose the right person?      First of all we must ask,  "What do we mean by 'right'?  The right person to go on holiday with?  The right person for great sex?  The right person to live with?  The right person to be the other parent of your children?   Which 'right' are you looking for?   And which 'right' is the other person looking for?    Sometimes you can't trust what people say - so you must pay very close attention to what they do ... and take enough time to do that thoroughly.

**"Many years ago I wrote a book with Paul McKenna called  "I can mend your broken heart."   It is still selling well.

In the years since then I have come to see more and more that how we relate to ourselves is a crucial component in how we relate to others.  So for people who are not in a relationship there is plenty we can do to make sure the next relationship goes well."**

In this episode we focus mainly on the what we can do to help ourselves be more capable and compassionate when next we fall in love.

We look at motivations and the challenge of seeing what is happening even when it is not what we want.   There is more ...

One way to make some sense of the confusion of being human is to recognise which part of ourselves we are using to think, to perceive and to communicate. We can direct our energy from our head, from our heart and from our hips.

In this episode we explore how this understanding can be useful, and we take an unexpected excursion into a delicate area of healing.

Polite people are taught not talk about sex, politics or religion. So today we talked about religion.

Is it helpful?  Is it dangerous?    Does it have a purpose?

Why is it that younger people these days don't have much to do with religion, yet it plays a huge part in world history?

We don't offer definitive answers to any of these questions, but we had a good wander around the topics and found out that some lucky people have two guardian angels....

In this edition we talked about addictions and the everyday challenges of life - and how they all get a little more intense around Christmas.

We told some stories about the stories we tell ourselves to avoid the feelings we don't want to notice.

We had a little fun around how to deal with people who are drunk. We talked about the difference between relaxation and distraction, and about how to change direction away from addiction towards more creative attitudes.

The Power House Team decided to introduce a bit of structure into this episode.   We listened to  friends, colleagues and strangers and made a note of the questions they raised about our situation today.

We used those questions as a starting point.

We talked about thinking and social institutions and how to stay positive and practical - and we looked back to the insights of thinkers and philosophers before us.

We hope you enjoy this episode.   If you have questions you would like us to address, please send them in to us.  You can do so via LL@powerhouseclass.com  or  hughwillbourn@gmail.com.

Today we followed the theme of abstract analysis through some very practical problems. We talked about careerism in science, about how hard it is for Governments to learn from their mistakes and how an excess of experts can lead us astray. We also looked at practical positive steps, which are simple to implement and how we can clean up our lives by kicking out ideas that do not help us.
