We continue using the basics tools you’ll need to get started with quilling: quilling needle, quilling paper, fine tip glue bottle, craft glue, etc.  I show you how to make a heart shape and fill it in using five scrolls: loose scroll, C-shape scroll, Heart-shape scroll, S scroll and Spirals. Bonus: I show you how to use the quilling comb and how you can place a quilling comb shape within your art journal page. In today’s video, we discuss how to tell stories while building your art brand during your day when your creative flow is disrupted by life events (like a doctor’s appointment in the middle of the day). You can create a content creation strategy and tell your brand’s story in the moments during your day that contain small breaks. What do you do with those micro breaks, 15-20 minutes segments, while you’re waiting between appointments? Create content and build your brand by telling a story. I offer some creative time management tips to help you get more done. I also talk about offering your customers value during your day by releasing mindful pieces of micro content that you create in between appointments. Don’t let your creative flow get disrupted. Use those moments during your day in a creative way: build your brand, tell a story through video or audio or write down your thoughts in your notes on your phone for a blog post. Lastly, I discuss how if you have time to consume social media, then you have time to create value for your brand, build brand awareness and keep the creative flow going throughout your day by creating content instead of consuming content. Who uses the excuse: I don’t have time AND you consume social media? If you have time to consume social media, then you have time to create posts for social media to help build your art brand awareness. The more content you post, the more likely someone is to see it and ask, “Who is this person?” and then go check you out on your website. Don’t waste your valuable time by consuming. Content is king for building organic reach for your art brand. Use your time wisely by creating content for people that offers value. You won’t regret when the sales are rolling in down the road. If you don’t start or never try, then you’ll never know. Start now. Start posting now. And post more often. Your story matters because you matter and your art brand matters.

Today is a fun walk in the park where we talk about Pinterest Boards and how they can help you manifest your future. Pinterest Boards or vision boards, in general, can help you plan for the future or give you a more realistic view of what your future could and will look like. Using Pinterest Vision boards also have downsides because there is so much content to pin, and you could be overwhelmed by so many options. Perhaps using other alternatives like Canva to create a digital vision board would be a better option for people, such as myself, who suffer from overwhelm using Pinterest. I talk about the curated-looking life on Pinterest with it's perfect images, and how that's not what we're after here.

I share with you how I used Pinterest to manifest my future move to Italy so I have an idea of what my future will look like in a realistic way. I talk about my story and how I'm feeling hope and excitement for the first time in a long time. We discuss what searching for happiness and never feeling like you fit in looks like in my life as an example.

Doing vision boards can be soothing and calm your anxiety because you get a chance to dream about your future. You get a chance to look beyond what is happening in your current situation and what is currently coming up for you that is negative, like pain, depression, anxiety, tough experience, and how you can use a vision board to dream beyond the pain---imagine your future self without the current story that's coming up for you right now. I realized I was including my pain stories of the present and they were standing in the way of me dreaming into the future. I.E. I wasn't allowing myself to dream or manifest anything without including my current pain situation. Dream beyond your pain and your current story. Imagine your life in the future without your pain and see how it could look like beyond what you're experiencing right now. We are all so stuck in our current stories. We need to give ourselves the permission to dream and look into the future without our current painful story. Don't limit your future based on what is happening in your life right now.

If you are questioning things like: what gives you he audacity to dream? or how can trauma from a life experience affect your future goals and plans, then this video is for you! Let yourself manifest, plan, dream and set goals using vision boards on Pinterest without limiting yourself. Don't stand in your own way. Imagine yourself in the future without the pain or painful story you're living through or experiencing right now. You've got this!

How To Create Pop Art Flowers Using Procreate on iPad with Apple Pencil or Your Fingers

Today I show you how I create pop art style flowers using Procreate and Apple Pencil or Your Fingers. Procreate is a $10 app used for digital drawing or painting. I show you around Procreate, let you know of some things to beware of in Procreate, and we discuss why it's a great investment for $10. The first half of the video is a tour of Procreate. The second half is the tutorial on how I created the pop art flower piece using the Liquify Pinch tool that Procreate offers. The paint used was oil paint using an oil paint brush all digitally.

If you have produced any art piece, a page in your art journal, a quick sketch you did while you were waiting for your car to get fixed. It doesn’t matter. Sign it and date it.

Here what this topic is NOT about: signing and dating your art so someone can discover it when you pass on. That is NOT the point I’m trying to make. That is a reason to sign and date your art, but it’s not the point of this video.

Why:

Reason 1: As time goes by, the likelihood increases that you may not remember when you did this piece. I have pieces I’ve forgotten to sign and date. I can still put my name on it, but the date might escape me. This is information you may want to have going forward.

Reason 2: It serves as a way to catalog your work to show when you started the process, and you can see the progress you’ve made in your art journey. I have sketchbooks from when I first started taking drawing classes as an adult in 2017. I have paintings I did back in 2012 and 2013 when I first got into taking painting classes at one of those painting and wine classes. In those classes the art teacher would always say: sign and date your work. The teacher never said why.

Reason 3: Own your work. Have the self-confidence to put your name on your piece and date it so that you can mark the point on your journey when you made the piece.

Keep listening for more reasons!

Today’s daily prompt is Starscape. I walk you through step-by-step and show you how to create my final piece using Canva. We make a digital art journal collage using a free software called Canva. Today you learn how to use images in Canva and put them on a digital canvas and make a starscape. I don’t know what the final product will look like until the end of the video because I’m creating as I go. This is a great chance to see how I create and a bit behind my creative process. Digital collages are so fun because you get very realistic looking images without having to cut them out of a magazine. Digital collages are great if you don’t have the will or hand strength to cut out images from magazines using scissors. Digital collages using Canva are easy to put together because you can search for the images you want and they are all categorized for you. You don’t have to spend hours looking through magazines: art for the impatient art journaler! You can use Canva to make digital downloads for your business or print on demand merchandise for your business. You can also use it for all of your social media needs. I discuss some of the differences between the Canva Pro account, which I show you in the video, and the free version.

Take a art walk in nature with me today while getting to know me a little better. I discuss my thoughts on the book “The Artist’s Way: It’s Never Too Late to Begin Again: Discovering Creativity and Meaning at Midlife and Beyond” (by Julia Cameron and Emma Lively) and how it can help you on your creative journey. I talk about what “The Artist’s Way” means to me and what it could mean for helping you build a consistent creativity practice. Take a pause with me in nature as we take an art walk. I discuss the key to building a habit and routine. I also explore how art journaling can be a chance for you to either start your day off right or be a way to take time for yourself in your busy life. Taking time for yourself is so important: self-care. There are also those who have a lot of time but may not know what to do with their time, something that is talked about a lot in “The Artist’s Way” (retirement version). I also talk about quality of life and The Great Resignation and working for myself.

Today’s video is all about hand lettering as a technique for art journaling. I discuss the differences between hand lettering, calligraphy and typography, and how to use each technique in an art journal. For hand lettering we talk about cursive handwriting and faux calligraphy. We also discuss different tools you can use like tombow markers or dual brush pens for hand lettering, calligraphy or faux calligraphy. Great inspiration for anything you hand letter or use calligraphy on can be motivational quotes, song lyrics or inspirational quotes. We also dive into how to create a piece of typography using fonts from popular online programs like MS Word, Canva.com, Procreate and Adobe products and how to take your favorite font, print it out, trace it on tracing paper using charcoal or graphite pencils and then you can fill it out on your own using dual brush pens or tombow markers. Lastly, we dive into how to import a font into a digital art program like Procreate, we discuss what a layer is in a digital program and how you can copy your favorite font in your favorite digital program. Sara Dalton Coaching is hosting an Art Journal Challenge for all of March 2022. I hope you’ll join us! You can RSVP over at my website: saradaltoncoaching.com and I hope to see you there to see the different art journal creations you make.

Today is the first day of our art journaling challenge for March 2022. Welcome, and I’m so grateful you decided to join us! In today’s video, we talk all about the creative uses for Zentangle as an art journaling technique. I show you some of my Zentangle artwork and doodles. I love creating Zentangle flowers, and I talk about how I was creating Zentangle flowers before I even started my plant shop: The Rare Plant Haus. Zentangle is a great art journaling technique for beginners. Zentangle evokes meditation, repetitive movements, doodling and drawing. Something else that’s fun to do is to turn your Zentangle drawings into adult coloring books that you can color in once the ink from your Sakura micron pens are dry. It’s fun to look back on your old Zentangles and see what you’ve manifested into reality from past drawings you’ve done. If you’re into the law of attraction, doodling, art journaling, manifesting your dreams into reality, drawing, meditation or looking for art journal ideas then this video is for you!

Art Journaling is a visual diary--it's record keeping combined with creativity! It's a place to record your thoughts, memories, and emotions through images, art, words, video or audio. An art journal is a personal journal (or book, album) filled with any combination of art, imagery, words, photos and/or videos. We are going to change it up a little bit and do a digital version. I really want to include digital content creators in this challenge: digital art and painting, photography and videography.

I'm introducing a fun challenge for the month of March. I’ll be posting a video every day to YouTube about art journaling, techniques and information. I’m going to be running the challenge on Instagram and TikTok. Tag me in your post @saradaltoncoaching on either platform and use the hashtag: #artjournalMarch2022 You also will need to follow me on one of the two platforms.

I’m going to be sending out daily prompts. In order to participate you need to follow the daily prompt to create a piece of art around that day’s prompt.

To get the daily prompts you can go to my website and enter your email. You will receive an email once a day with the prompt so you know what to create your piece of art around. If you create and share your post every day in March on either TikTok or Instagram then you will be entered to win a $100 Amazon gift card. I’m giving away 2 gift cards. All you have to do is create content based on the prompt and share it and tag me in the post and use the hashtag #artjournalMarch2022 You pick the format and post to either TikTok or IG and create whatever you want around the daily prompts. The winners will be selected at random. The important thing to keep in mind here is quantity, not quality. I want to see you creating every day in March. That is the point of this whole month-long challenge. To get people creating for themselves. After 31 days, you will be motivated to keep creating because you will have built 31 pieces of art in your journal or pieces to add to your portfolio. We are building momentum here, people. We aren’t looking for the most beautiful piece of art. We are looking for quantity. Make sure you subscribe to this channel and hit the notification bell to get notified about daily videos I’ll be posting in March all about art journaling. And keep an eye out on TikTok and Instagram. I will be going live and I don’t want you to miss it! If you’re looking to build momentum towards your creative business or creative journey, then I hope you’ll join us. Let’s build a connected community around the things we have in common: like creating art and content.

Go to https://www.saradaltoncoaching.com and RSVP for Art Journaling for March 2022 event on my homepage. Enter your name and email address for daily prompts.

Follow me on IG, TikTok or both (depending on where you want to post your content): @saradaltoncoaching on both platforms

When you make your post on social media tag me and use the hashtag below:

We do all of this using this free tool called the YearCompass. In this YearCompass tutorial, I walk you through step-by-step on how print out or use a digital copy of the YearCompass, I explain why using YearCompass can be great for setting your New Years’ goals and we also touch on the difference between New Years Goals vs Resolutions. #yearcompass #newyeargoals2022 #startnow

Today’s video is a casual video. Watch me repot some rare plants from my plant shop and talk about how my life has changed since the coronavirus pandemic. I discuss life pre-covid and what it looks like now post covid. I talk about how COVID-19 has impacted my decisions to pursue Italian Citizenship and get my Teach English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certificate. I cover how the lockdown has affected my relationship with my husband, and how it’s harder to film and find space as we both work from home now. The pandemic has changed me so much, and I’m grateful for the changes it has brought. I’m grateful for how I’ve transformed my life after COVID-19. I discuss my thoughts and feelings about how my working situation has changed with always having my husband working at home. This whole pandemic has taught me how to turn a life crisis into an opportunity, but that doesn’t mean there wasn’t and isn’t heartbreak and pain along the way. #lifelessons #iwantcovidtobeover #gratefulforchange

I hope you enjoy the plants as well. You can always email me if you are interested in plants or check out my store at https://www.therareplanthaus.com !!

I hope you enjoy today’s story time video of how I manifested a piece of art I wrote down in early 2021 into reality. I think the power of writing down your goals and dreams will help you manifest what you want through the law of attraction. Are you writing or drawing out your vision? We discuss why you should write down your dreams, setting goals, the power of visualization for success and how to manifest success. You will hear my story of how writing something down or drawing it out can help you manifest it into reality.

I’m going to share with you how I wrote something down in 2021, and how it came true in 2022. I share with you some information on Italian dual citizenship, my excitement for travel in the future, the process of Jure Sanguinis (citizenship by descent) in Italy, and I share what I hope my future will be.
