While Arizonans are still a decade away from legalizing or accessing psilocybin, they can still get high today by simply stepping outside and breathing in the toxic fumes spilled all over I-10. Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs is repurposing shipping containers that were used to block the border as affordable housing. Our hosts talk about how this system error caused the largest grounding since 9/11, and how it likely could have been avoided if the infrastructure wasn't so antiquated, and/or if the Senate had confirmed President Biden's choice of leadership for the FAA back in March of 2022. Well, well, well; look who came crawling back for season 4. What else can we say except that Ian and Diana KEEP getting meta with talk of art, creativity, and social media whilst creating art on social media. Diana is getting all analytical with words like marketing, audience, and content consistency. Ian can't quite let go of the baby seed he planted 31 weeks ago to accept the beautiful project it has evolved into. Comedy. Drama. Which is harder to produce, and which is better? With no answer in their collective pocket, our duo breaks down from atop the 4th wall and ends their "behind the scenes" segment.
Diana brings up student loans again this week to talk about Biden's plan for loan forgiveness. Spoiler alert, he doesn't have one. Ian is peeved that he got suckered into over 30K in debt for an art degree and recommends that viewers (on both the borrowing and lending end of loans) consider viewing college as a risky investment. After all, you might end up just like Ian, working at the same part-time, dead-end jobs that you could've worked at right out of high school. You could also invest in a degree which has no career path outside of academia. OR if you're truly lucky, privileged, blessed, and intelligent enough to get a STEM degree, and work in a STEM field, you could be making bank like Diana... who is also about 30K in debt.
Anyways, Ian is hoping ketamine therapy might help with the depression this economy inflicts on us all. While he recognizes that capitalism prefers to prevent progress in lieu of profit, he hopes that automation can lead us away from labor and into passionate pursuits. Diana makes a good counter-point, however, which is that if wealth isn't evenly distributed, why would jobs be? Chances are there will be less jobs, higher standards, more toxic environments, and a definite recession. If you can sit through all of that soul-crushing negativity, we do bring things back around to talk about music shortly before ending the podcast.

The show starts all fancy-like with wine and THChocolate! As the two vent about their workday, they describe society as a train running downhill without brakes. Ian ponders whether stress is the natural state of humanity, although Diana makes a good point that it is likely just a symptom of late-stage capitalism. The two describe their wildly different public education experiences from different states. Ian is going into education as a career choice, and he's convinced AI's will take. The corporations and technology that have been integrated into the education system over the previous fifteen years are troubling him, night and day. Diana says today's internet is like 1000x better than when we grew up, and it is true that utilities have advanced. After a reminder from Ian about the benefits of utility assistance, the two also talk about social media and the digital footprint one leaves behind.
Between paranoid ramblings about AI's, the duo does discuss the dynamic of trying to be funny versus taking advantage of situational humor. As comedy is one of Ian's values, the two talk about synonymous values, vagueness in values, compatibility between values, and morals. As the two become increasingly indignant, Ian suggests voting with your dollar is more powerful than voting with your vote. Diana is concerned with United States agricultural practices and sees room for improvement in the process of tilling. We discuss adult diets, how to set commitments and reach goals by following through, and generally encourage ourselves and our listeners to celebrate personal growth. The two lovebirds get on their soapbox about communication in relationships, discuss their gender fluidity/queerness/androgyny, and question how much the world's natural tendency to force conformity on us all has effected them. Finally, we juxtapose the hate, cruelty, and ignorance of some humans with recommendations for self-exploration, exposure to culture, and diverse friendships.

A lackluster birding experience launches our funny friends into all sorts of discussions! Ian's turned 27, and he's already onboard with the anti-work movement. Diana seems more burnt out than anything; probably because we recorded this around the holidays. We do a rune reading, talk about other forms of divination, self-care, and gratuitous hobbies all before the halfway point. Ian has his stoner moment, talking about cells, the micro and macro, and humans as viruses. We make a point to discuss trolling and gaslighting, as we age and adjust to the mutual culture we all share. When we looked back, Christian colonization and historical cultural appropriation felt like important topics to discuss. Thinking closer to just last year, the two wax nostalgic for but a brief moment before launching into goals, interests, and plans to align our values over the New Year.

I remember it began with the story of an octopus. Then, a teacher and a scientist chatted about different lifestyles and the dedication they require. The holidays were getting Diana and Ian down in the dumps, so they vented a bit about the pandemic and current politics. Naturally, they got into how relationships with one's family are often quite different during childhood than during adulthood; especially once considering the potential of becoming a parent one's self. Ian and Diana ponder their spiritual purpose, talk about trauma and healing, and joke about travel, escape fantasies before concurring that the most straightforward path in life is setting goals and taking action to follow through with them. Societal concerns about mental health, repression, homophobia, transphobia, and machismo culture are discussed, as the cohosts consider their privileges and biases while being metacognitive and practicing tolerance.
