In this changing & wonderful world we are four people, from four different decades and backgrounds, trying to figure it out. Join us as we tackle serious and silly topics, through the lens of our different generations. There will be plenty of laughs and tears as we discover more about each other and the world around us.
What do you happily spend money on — and what do you refuse to splurge on?
This week on The XYZ Experiment, Gen X, Gen Y and Gen Z talk about the choices we make with our money. What does each generation consider a necessity? What feels like a luxury? And where do those things fit when you’re trying to stick to a budget?
We compare the things we’re willing to spend more on, the things we’ll happily go without, and the little rules that can help us decide before we buy — including the 24-hour rule and the 8-8-8 approach.
Because budgeting isn’t just about numbers. It’s also about priorities. What feels essential to one person might seem like a complete luxury to someone else.
So, what’s worth spending your money on?
Three generations. Three different perspectives. Come and join the conversation.

Whilst we're on holiday we are revisiting some of our favourite episodes. This week it's Luke's choice and he is taking us back to Episode 101.
In this episode we explore the age-old question that every book lover has asked themselves: "Why do we keep rereading the same books?"
Whether it's the comfort of familiar characters, the thrill of uncovering hidden layers, or simply a nostalgic escape, we are exploring what makes a story worth returning to time and time again.
Join us as we chat about the nostalgia, the emotional connections, and the surprising revelations that come with a second (or third) look at the books that have shaped us. We will share personal stories, debate the pros and cons of returning to old favourites, and ask you, our listeners, to weigh in on your own rereading rituals.
Grab your well-worn copies or charge up the kindle, settle in and let's uncover why some stories just never say goodbye.

As we take a break over June, we are sharing our favourite episodes that you may have missed. This week Darsh has picked Ep85: Glimmers: Finding Light and Joy in Everyday Moments.
Engaging in glimmers really help us to stay present, find joy and bring light into a world that can sometimes feel a little bit dark, and gloomy with some of the things happening in the world.
Darsh was reminded about finding the glimmer in your everyday life after taking a walk in the botanical gardens with her hubby and dog; listening to the cockatoos screaming at each other and flying around and just enjoying their natural craziness she suddenly realised that she hadn't looked at her phone, hadn't taken any videos or photos and was just experiencing true joy just watching nature.
We want you all to find the glimmer in your everyday life to remember how wonderful and simple life can sometimes be.

Throughout June we're diving back into our archives and revisiting some of our favourite episodes.

How private are we anymore really?
In this week's episode we discuss the complicated world of privacy, personal information and digital oversharing. From Facebook, Instagram and Linkedin to loyalty programs, online shopping and DNA ancestry kits, we explore how comfortable different generations are with handing over their personal data.
Does Gen Z care less about privacy or have they simply grown in a world where sharing is normal? Why are we happy to give our details to big corporations for discounts and convenience, yet often hesitate when governments ask for the same information?
How much do companies already know about us? What information would you never share? And is privacy now a luxury or just an illusion?

Food is never food, especially when you're a kid.
This week, we look back on meals that meant something; the dishes or trip to the fast food joint when you'd been particularly well behaved, the Friday night fish and chips and the family feast meals tied to religious or cultural traditions.
From 'treat foods' used a rewards, to recipes bought out for celebration, we explore how food shaped our sense of comfort and identity whilst growing up.and the big question - have we carried those traditions into adulthood, or left them behind? Because its surprising how something as simple as a meal can hold so much meaning across the generations.

Last week, we asked do we still have "Best Friends"? This week we're going deeper into something a little more uncomfortable - money and friendship.
In a world where everything feels more expensive, how is money quietly shaping our relationships? From dinners out, concert tickets, weekends away - are we unintentionally pricing friends out of spending time with us? And are we being priced out of catchups too?
It's a quiet balancing act nowadays, wanting to connect but also wanting to be mindful about ours and others finances. From choosing where to go, to how often we say yes, to the pressure of keeping up; are we all doing enough to keep our friendships inclusive?

Meanwhile, Gen X Fiona is sitting there like, "Isn't this just setting goals".

This week we’re talking about the world of decluttering—but not just the “tidy your drawer” kind. We’re exploring how different generations approach stuff.
What we keep, what we throw away, and what we just can’t let go of isn’t random. Is it shaped by our generation, our experiences, or the world we grew up in?
From those who hold onto everything “just in case,” to the Marie Kondo inspired minimalists who crave space and simplicity, decluttering is about far more than cleaning.
There can be a lot of emotional weight behind sentimental items and we can struggle to let things go.
And are younger generations redefining or rejecting clutter? Whether you find decluttering freeing or deeply uncomfortable we share our journey with you. What we keep, what we toss and why.
