Each episode will share an individual(s)experience. Whether that is reflecting on history or focusing on life in America today, this podcast will uncover the issues and feelings surrounding years of systemic racism that is still prevalent today.
This episode explores the extremely high maternal mortality rate among Black women–which is about 3x higher than their white counterparts. Guest, Vanessa Johnson, talks about how her work as a Doula has helped Black women explore safer and more comfortable alternatives to giving birth and discusses the outrageous statistics surrounding the issue. This episode is sensitive, yet honest and may encourage you to suggest Doulas to your family and friends, or better yet ... find one for yourself!
What have you learned about Black history in school? Host M’Laya Sago discusses the absence of Black history in U.S. schools with others who have attended both private and public schools across the country. The guest speakers reflect on their personal experiences and share their thoughts on the Black history that is actually taught. This episode is honest and gives a voice to the feelings surrounding this issue.
Black Lives Matter is not a trend, it doesn't mean that other lives don't matter, but it is a statement that places emphasis on the need to demolish systemic racism and the brutality of Black bodies around the world.
Let’s Talk About It simply allows for a judgment-free platform where Black men, women, and non-binary individuals can voice their experience, ideas, history, life stories, etc. to give perspective on the effects of systemic racism in America.
Episode one touches on the role of the Black vote and voter suppression/disenfranchisement. Guest Richard Nwabuzor touches on how disenfranchisement plays a huge role in Black Americans’ ability to vote and be heard. He also talks about both presidential candidates–focusing on both their similarities, differences and unpopular political standings. Meanwhile, guest speaker Victor Hill focuses on why he is choosing not to vote in the upcoming election that will possibly make or break the future of America.
