On this episode of The FourFourView Podcast, we review the transfer window of summer 2021 when Lionel Messi left his beloved Barcelona to join Neymar and Mbappe at PSG and Cristiano Ronaldo rejoined Manchester United 12 years after departing for Real Madrid in 2009. We also look in detail at some of the transfers completed by Premier League clubs in a window which saw them spend a combined total of over £1billion and discuss a few of the biggest moves throughout European football.
After a brief hiatus The FourFourView Podcast is back! In this episode we spoke to Johnny McKinstry, the only Northern Irishman to have managed three international teams in Sierra Leone, Rwanda and most recently Uganda. Johnny has also managed at club level in mainland Europe and Asia, and at just 36 years old has an impressive managerial and coaching CV thus far.
With a month of international football ahead, we discuss each group in detail and give our thoughts on some of the dark horse nations as well as players to look out for in this years European Championship.
Data analysis has become a prominent aspect of modern day football, with more and more clubs using a number of methods to measure the ability and success of their current players and potential new signings. We spoke to Matthew, Co-host of the Northern Irish political podcast BeyondNI, about his experience after he he was approached by the manager of then Swedish second division women's side Mallbackens IF to carry out an analysis of the team's performance. We also chatted about how football is developing and beginning to consider a wider array of statistics, instead of simply the likes of goals scored and possession percentages, etc.
On this episode we preview the most anticipated game of the club football calendar, the Champions League final. For the second time in three seasons the final will be contested between two English sides - Manchester City, appearing in their first ever UCL final and Chelsea, whose last final appearance was a 2012 victory vs Bayern Munich. The game was originally to be held in Istanbul, Turkey, but was recently moved to Porto, Portugal, which will allow a select number of fans to travel to the fixture thanks to the inclusion of Portugal on the UK's green travel list.
In this episode of The FourFourView Podcast, lifelong Chelsea fan Jonny spoke to Dan Silver, a board member of the Chelsea Supporters' Trust, in the wake of the recent European Super League proposals. Jonny and Dan discussed what being a member of a supporters' trust entails, the role of a trust in liaising between supporters and their clubs regarding the decision making which occurs at football clubs, as well as their thoughts on Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, the importance of fans in the prevention of the European Super League and some of the issues within modern day football that could do with an overhaul.
On this episode we spoke with Paul Harbinson, the current manager of NIFL Championship side Ballyclare Comrades. Paul gave us an insight into life as a local football manager during the Covid crisis and the impact of not being granted 'elite' status by the IFA, which prevented Championship clubs from competing in their 20/21 season. We also spoke to Paul about some of his experiences as both a player and manager, as well as Ballyclare's promotion ambitions for the upcoming season.
