One half of the Unenlightened Generalists practices the cover for 500 Miles.

[Verse 1]

If you miss the train I'm on, you will know that I am gone

You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles

A hundred miles, a hundred miles

A hundred miles, a hundred miles

You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles

[Verse 2]

Lord, I'm one, Lord, I'm two, Lord, I'm three, Lord, I'm four

Lord, I'm five hundred miles from my home

Five hundred miles, five hundred miles

Five hundred miles, five hundred miles

Lord, I'm five hundred miles from my home

[Verse 3]

Not a shirt on my back, not a penny to my name

Lord, I can't go a-home this a-way

This a-way, this a-way, this a-way, this a-way

Lord, I can't go a-home this a-way

[Verse 4]

If you miss the train I'm on, you will know that I am gone

You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles

Join one half of the Unenlightened Generalists while he bakes you cookies and shares his productivity and health routines. I know this isn't strictly food related, but I think it fits in the foodie community!

The Recipe:

  • Preheat oven to 350 (F)
  • Melt 0.25 cups of butter.
  • Add butter to bowl with 0.25-.5 cups granulated sugar and 0.25.5 cups brown sugar. Use 0.25 for a softer, puffier cookie. Use .5 for a flatter, chewier cookie.
  • Stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla, 1/4 teaspoon almond extract, and 1 small egg.
  • -Add just under 1 cup of flour, 0.25 teaspoon baking soda, and a hearty pinch of salt.
  • Mix until just combined and not too sticky.
  • Add chocolate chips to taste (but don't add too many or your cookies won't hold together.
  • Put baking paper on baking sheet.
  • Place about 1.5 tbsp of dough on the baking sheet. Repeat, 2 inches apart.
  • Gently press down in the middle (slightly wet fingers help).
  • Lightly sprinkle large-grain sea salt.
  • Bake for 8-12 minutes.

In which Odin explores the uses of corkboards, paper index cards, and plum mead. Seriously, though. In our increasingly digitized lives, sometimes what we really need to do is find hacks that can decouple our habits from the world of apps and data connections. Balancing the best of what both worlds offer is key to being successful.

*Those who follow me on Hive know that I'm one half of the artistic duo known as The Unenlightened Generalists. This is my better half doing a cover of one of her favorite artists.

I always come back to Joni Mitchell.

Lyrics

He comes for conversation

I comfort him sometimes

Comfort and consultation

He knows that's what he'll find

I bring him apples and cheeses

He brings me songs to play

He sees me when he pleases

I see him in cafes

And I only say, "Hello"

And turn away before his lady knows

How much I want to see him

She removes him like a ring, to wash her hands

She only brings him out to show her friends

I want to free him

Secrets and sharing soda

That's how our time began

Love is a story told to a friend

It's second hand

But I'll listen to his questions

I'll give my answers when they're found

He says she keeps him guessing

But I know she keeps him down

She speaks in sorry sentences

Miraculous repentances

I don't believe her

Tomorrow he will come to me

And he'll speak his sorrow endlessly and he'll ask me, "Why?"

"Why can't I leave her?"

He comes for conversation

I comfort him sometimes

Comfort and consultation

He knows that's what he'll find

He knows that's what he'll find

Lyrics arr. Steeleye Span

Come me own one, come me fair one

Come now unto me

Could you fancy a poor sailor lad

Who has just come from sea

You are ragged love and you're dirty love

And your clothes smell much of tar

So be gone you saucy sailor lad

So be gone you Jack Tar

If I am ragged love and I'm dirty love

And me clothes smell much of tar

I have silver in me pocket love

And gold in great store

And then when she heard him say say

On her bended knee she fell

I will marry my dear Henry

For I love a sailor lad so well

Do you think that I, I am foolish love

Do you think that I am mad

For to wed with a poor country girl

Where no fortune's to be had

When, in disgrace with fortune and men’s eyes,

I all alone beweep my outcast state,

And trouble deaf heaven with my bootless cries,

And look upon myself, and curse my fate,

Wishing me like to one more rich in hope,

Featur’d like him, like him with friends possess’d,

Desiring this man’s art and that man’s scope,

With what I most enjoy contented least;

Yet in these thoughts myself almost despising,

Haply I think on thee, and then my state,

Like to the lark at break of day arising

From sullen earth, sings hymns at heaven’s gate;

For thy sweet love remember’d such wealth brings

That then I scorn to change my state with kings.
