Coaching internalized fatphobia is not as difficult as it may appear.

Internalized fatphobia, also commonly expressed as fear of gaining weight or fear of fatness, is something most self-identified women are faced with at some point in their life.

This is why many non-diet professional & non-diet coaches struggle with the thought of having to talk about this with their clients let alone help them move through it with coaching.

Coaching internalized fatphobia Coaching internalized fatphobia becomes a much easier process when you have begun your own journey healing internalized fatphobia in yourself first.

As a non-diet professional & coach, it's my duty to become great at coaching internalized fatphobia.

Food was never the problem. The size of our client's pants was never the problem either.

So why do we focus our healing approach on the actual food and body?

The reason why humans experience struggles with food, health behaviors, and their body isn’t because of a lack of intellectual knowledge or effort.

IT’S BEYOND THE FOOD, BODY, OR HEALTH HABITS. How can you help them solve their problems if it’s not by telling them what to do?

“I know I should do X… but I just can’t do it”. You heard this from all your client all the time.

Followed by “What’s wrong with me?”

We are going to change that! The Going Beyond The Food Challenge is a 4-day training series that will teach how to go beyond the food and actually address the real problem.

Learn a coaching approach uniquely designed to coach women who want help with food, body perception, and health.

Learn to coach beyond the food… because food or the size of their pants was never the issue.

THE RESULT: You feel confident to coach yourself and your client to undiet their life.

Culturally we have been taught to celebrate the wins and question ourselves when we lose.

Socially we have been trained to expect results based on the efforts and actions we have taken.

Result entitlement is the #1 business killer.

What if getting the result meant nothing about you, the kind of person you are, your worthiness, or your abilities?

What if the universe didn’t owe you any result?

How about instead you 100% believe that the thoughts you think created the feelings you experience which produce the quality of actions you took toward the result?

What if simply your thoughts and feelings created the result - that’s it. and that if you want twice as much of the result, you need to believe twice as much.

That’s result neutrality.

What you’ll learn listening to this episode: * Why result dissonance is the #1 business killer. * The way you think the outcome will directly impact your ability to create success * The toxicity of result entitlement

In today’s episode, I share a powerful discovery that was made after I reviewed my business revenue for last year and the wave of shame I experienced. How I experienced the shame was vastly different than I would have if I weren’t a coach.

I realized that I was upholding toxic business culture, which parallels the thin ideal women uphold from toxic diet culture. This belief was keeping me from seeing my own success.

I would have never come to this realization if I had never allowed myself to explore why I was feeling shame.

I invite you to listen to this episode to discover if you are subconsciously co-opting toxic business culture.

What you’ll learn listening to this episode on 7 Figure Biz Ideal Vs Thin Ideal: 1. The powerful impact that processing shame has 2. The parallels between the thin ideal and the 7-figure business ideal 3. Questions to ask to determine if you are operating from toxic business culture

In today’s episode, we explore the difference between the ‘even when’ mindset and the ‘as long as’ mindset when it comes to your business.

When we don’t see the results we want in our businesses, we often blame the actions we take or don’t take. When in reality, it is due to our mindset. One of the most effective mindset shifts you can make is from the ‘as long as’ to the ‘even when’ mindset.

Adapting the ‘even when’ mindset creates unconditional confidence and commitment to your goals. It will help you coach more effectively, take consistent action and help you create money.

What you’ll learn listening to this episode on ‘Even When’ Mindset VS ‘As Long As’ Mindset:  * The difference between the ‘as long as’ mindset vs the ‘even when’ mindset * How the ‘even when’ mindset parallels the work we do with our clients in the non-diet world * How to build unconditional commitment to your goals * Why exploring the worst-case scenario is needed

In today’s episode I am discussing the difference between having money and making money.

When you move from having and earning money as an employee to making and creating money as an entrepreneur, there are beliefs and thoughts that need to shift for you to be successful.

As entrepreneurs, we create results, aka money, by taking action. The quality of the actions we take, such as selling our offer, is a direct result of how we feel. How we feel is a direct result of the quality of thoughts we hold. This is the coaching concept that I teach all of my students and clients.

By following the steps in today’s podcast you will build the belief that you are an entrepreneur who makes money and takes action from a place of confidence.

What you’ll learn listening to this episode on mindset coaching Having Money vs Making Money: * Why your thoughts matter when trying to make money as an entrepreneur * The 5 key emotions for entrepreneurs to feel to be successful at making money * The process that builds evidence that it is possible for you to believe in yourself

Consulting is not coaching.

Coaching is not therapy.

Coaching is not out of scope for anyone.

Now to be sure you are not “out of scope” you need to know how to coach.

And most health degrees do not teach how to coach.

And most health coaching certifications teach consulting not coaching.

I’m going to clear this up for you once and for all.

In this episode of the podcast, we will answer the question:

Are you coaching, counseling, or consulting? and how to stay within scope in your program and practice.

I’ll be co-hosting this episode on coaching vs therapy vs consulting with:

  • Vanessa Preston Trauma Therapist, Nutritionist, and Intuitive Eating & Body Image Coach

  • Jin Hee Kim Therapist, Social Worker, and Intuitive Eating & Body Image Coach

  • Sabrina Rogers Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Intuitive Eating & Body Image Coach

This session was part of the Non-Diet Coach Training. If you join before May 8th, 2022, this training recording along with many others are available as you join the event.

What you’ll learn listening to this episode: * We will eliminate the “ out of scope” drama once and for all * You’ll understand the difference between the three forms of client interaction with clients and their limitation * Decide who you are for your client and become the most powerful version of it

Money is a feminist issue, and if the feminist running the business isn’t flourishing, then it’s not a feminist business.

Let’s get one thing clear: a coach who doesn’t make money can’t flourish and thrive. You can’t run a thriving business from an exhausted, depleted state.

The reason why we get to this state in the first place is because we are taught that we can’t do both: help the community AND financially flourish. But you CAN do both!

There are SO many ways to serve your community while making money – without using unethical or exploitative tactics… Let’s dive!

What you’ll learn listening to this episode: * How money is a feminist issue * Why making money is crucial for making an impact in the world and changing systems of oppression * How to create new money beliefs * What ethically pricing your offers looks like

If you don’t feel like you are enough as a coach, you will default to creating self-validating content to feel enough. When you know the difference between self-validating content and content that serves, you can really focus on content that sells.. and ultimately gets you more paying clients.

Fully booked coaches have fun in their business and make sales effortlessly. They know the 4 things you need to get more paying clients as a non-diet coach.

If you are following marketing approaches simply because some guru told you to, you might be out of alignment. Especially if you feel yucky executing those marketing approaches. In fact, this is likely part of the reason it’s not working or helping you get more paying clients.

Our desire to adhere to a selling protocol is created by the same problematic thinking that our clients engage in. This means following someone else’s sales protocol as a non-diet coach is like your client following an influencer’s meal plan. When we have the right tools as professionals, we can coach our clients to create equality with their medical provider, establish consent (or non-consent), decline being weighed unless absolutely necessary, and empower them to be the leader of the conversation with their medical provider.

What you’ll learn listening to this episode: * The gaps in healthcare that perpetuate weight stigma * 3 ways to decline being weighed at the doctor’s office * How to re-enter the healthcare system after experiencing weight stigma * Navigating the client-provider relationship & informed consent * Debunking common myths about weight and health

Anti-Diet Practitioners Success Stories Vol. 2 Here's the deal.

We are dedicated to making choices from a place of love instead of fear.

Diet Culture is rooted in fear.

The Non-Diet Movement is rooted in love.

We choose to teach from love. We coach from a place of love.

Moreover, we market our business from love. We empower.

Certainly, what happens when you actively rewire your mind to see love instead of fear?

Possibilities. Growth. Success.

The Non-Diet Mentorship doesn't magically create success for our students: they do. That is to say, they make their success because they do the work with their mindset.

They have lived a diet culture. Moreover, they have lived in fear.

Now, they make the active choice to say: Hell no to fear.

Ultimately, that's the reason why they are successful.

Today we will answer two major questions I get when I teach health professionals about the non-diet approach.

Usually, these questions come right on the tail end of the first time being introduced to the non-diet approach.

What are those questions that almost all health professionals have at their first encounter with the non-diet approach?

But, what about health?

And

What about nutrition?

These two questions reveal how entrenched diet and wellness culture along with weight stigma are in our education as health professionals.

It is very important to note that we, as health professionals, were blind to this. We were taught to teach our patient and client how to co-opt diet culture and fatphobia.

We have been trained and learned to believe that health can only result from dieting, thinness and restriction.

So when faced with an approach to health that doesn’t promote diet culture, dieting, weight loss or food restriction, we assume it's not “healthy”…

Anti-Diet Approach to Health and Nutrition In today’s episode, we will be helping you navigate these two questions when encountering the anti-diet approach for the first time.

But what about health?

But what about nutrition?

What you’ll learn listening to this episode: * How to define health within a non-diet approach * The danger of viewing health as personal responsibility * Healthism * The social determinants of health * How to view nutrition within a non-diet approach * Gentle Nutrition

Why?

Simply because the same system of oppression that is in place to keep women stuck in diet culture is present in the business world.

One of our guest expert teachers, Dr. Michelle Mazur is Ph.D. in sales psychology as an expert coined the term “Bro Marketing” to describe this phenomenon.

This episode gets very heated… there are 3 solid rants that may trigger you. I want you to remember that triggers are only a sign for us to look deeper and see where we can upgrade and grow.

One of the frequent questions from health coaches who encounter my work in the non-diet approach for the first time is this:

How do I make money as a non-diet coach?

I get it. I had the same question 6 years ago when I first came to the world of anti-diet health coaching. If we don’t tell people what to eat when to eat and how to eat, what will they pay us for? Right?

To put it simply: undoing the work of diet culture. That’s how you make money as a non-diet health coach. If you have been through the process of unlearning diet culture yourself, you’ll know exactly what I mean. If you haven’t yet, it’s normal you don’t get it and this is the first place you need to start: doing the work of unlearning diet culture yourself.

To help answer this question, I’d like to give you an inside view of my anti-diet health coaching business more precisely what I wish I knew before starting my anti-diet health coaching business.

In today’s episode, I’m going to share with you what I wish I knew before starting my anti-diet health coaching business.

When I first started in my nutrition practice the term “non-diet approach” didn’t even cross my mind. “Anti-diet approach” didn’t even exist. Unbeknown to me, I was practicing the “diet approach to nutrition” simply because that’s what was taught in health & nutrition school.

Fast forward close to 10 years now and a lot have changed. The non-diet approach is growing rapidly, so the anti-diet approach and intuitive eating are booming.

What is the Non-Diet Approach The non-diet approach to health & nutrition is the exact opposite of dieting. It recognizes that food, eating, and body weight aren’t the problem to be fixed.

It’s a weight-neutral approach to health that does not focus on a weight-oriented outcome. Instead, this approach is focused on all the other factors that can impact one’s health beyond body weight. In other words, the ultimate goal is to support the patients to become their own experts at their bodies.

What you'll learn in this episode on the non-diet approach anatomy: * What is the non-diet approach * Core values of the non-diet approach * The pillars of the non-diet approach * Non-diet approach training for professional * Non-Diet Mentorship Program

The business transition to the anti-diet model from the traditional model of nutrition can be scary but also can be life-changing.

As with everything in life, how you approach the need for you to transition your business will make the journey scary, filled with anxiety and uncertainties. On the other hand, you can make the journey pleasurable, filled with learnings and growth both personally and professionally.

I want you to take a moment and reflect upon your clients and patients for a moment. When they come to you and you stand in front of them presenting Intuitive eating and the non-diet approach to health.

Does your client feel scared at the thought of not dieting? Hell yes…

Do they feel anxious about potentially gaining weight? Hell yes…

Are they uncomfortable with the uncertainty of not knowing what will happen? Hell yes…

Most of your clients will trust you and move forward following your guidance. That is to say, leaning into you for leadership. As a result, they will face their fears because the pain of staying in diet culture is greater than the one of facing their fears.

This episode is for all of you, Health PRO’s, that know that making the business transition to the anti-diet model is the right thing to do but are crippled with fear. I ask you to be as courageous as the people who daily face their fear and ditch diet culture, make peace with their body, and overcome fatphobia.

Rachel's Story of Transition The best way for me to express the possibilities that are in front of you is not with teaching but instead with inspiration. And the best way I know to inspire is with lived experience.

I’m welcoming a colleague, a good friend, and a mentee, Rachel Molenda. Rachel will be sharing her lived experience as she transitioned her business to the non-diet model.

Women don’t diet because they enjoy dieting.

In fact, women who diet do it because they think they have to.

From a very young age, women have been socialized that they are their physical bodies. As a result, women have internalized that their worth is associated with their body and its ability to achieve the expectation from diet culture.

Not sure… let’s look at research released by Dove for their ‘Self-Esteem Project’. It found that 96% of women in the UK reported feeling anxious about the way they look. Compared with 86% in China, 72% in Brazil and 61% in the US. On the other hand, only 4% of the women in all the countries surveyed would consider themselves ‘beautiful’. Consequently, by the time girls reach 17, 78% will be ‘unhappy with their bodies.'

Helping women leave and recover from diet culture is a feminist issue.

In today’s episode, we will discover why as health professionals, we need to adopt a specific anti-diet approach for women.

What you'll learn listening to this episode on the anti-diet approach for women: * Why a non-diet approach specific to women * Feminism & diet culture * Women socialization to diet culture * Women internalization of diet cultureDieting is a feminist issue * The intersection between diet culture & women history * Women empowerment * Dieting is a feminist issue * Anti-diet Approach for women Professional Training * Non-diet Approach for women mentorship

In the first three years of clinical practice, I thought I was addressing the root cause of my patients' health concerns.

In my training in holistic health & functional medicine, we are trained on addressing the underlying or root cause of chronic disease. That is to say taking into account the whole person including their environment, genetics, and lifestyle factors. Therefore, addressing the root cause is a fundamental philosophy, and honestly, the pride of alternative health approaches. This means resolving the root cause vs. just dealing with side effects.

I was asking a lot of questions and doing an in-depth assessment with the goal of uncovering the “real issue” that no other health professionals had identified yet. In fact, this unidentified root cause was, as per my training in functional medicine, the reason why my clients were “still struggling”.

But, was I really addressing the "real root cause”?

In today’s episode, I open the discussion to find out if we really are addressing the real root cause with our traditional health coaching and nutrition model or should we be adopting an anti-diet approach.

What you'll learn listening to this episode on the anti-diet approach: * What’s the real root cause? * Why healing the root cause is so important * Weight stigma * Fatphobia * Body Image healing * Health can be weight neutral * How the anti-diet approach addresses the real root cause

Diet Mindset Professional Training Diet mindset professional training was not available when I started my transition to a non-diet approach to nutrition and health as a clinical nutritionist; I had to figure it out on my own. Piece it all together…

So, I went into private practice and model what I had learnt. Spending hours creating a complex protocol. Very quickly, I realized that wasn’t going to work… clients were overwhelmed and scared of the complexity of what they would have to do. So, I went to what I was taught: trying to convince them with studies, facts, and data as to why restricting this and that food was essential to their health. That didn’t work either.

I shared the professional transition that my client Carolyn triggered in First Do No Harm: The Intuitive Eating Mentorship Journey. I argued that the current model of practice for a nutrition professional top-down approach is causing more harm to a particular segment of our clients. The female yo-yo dieter…which is, unfortunately, the vast majority of our client population.

The solution: The bottom-up approach. Start first with addressing the diet mindset so you can talk about nutrition and health later in the journey.

What you'll learn listening to this episode on diet brain: * The professional non-diet approach to diet mindset * How humans make food choices * How diet mindset develops in women * Common thought errors that lead to the diet cycle * Diet Brain: The adaptation process to diet failures * Self-Coaching: The solution to diet mindset * Further Non-Diet Training * Non-Diet Professional Mentorship

In today’s episode, we are going to explain what the intuitive eating business is really about. Starting this type of business can be overwhelming and scary. In fact, even those that have a regular health practice to transition to a non-diet model can be frightening.

These are the type of questions this episode aims to answer and many others:

Will I be able to sustain my income?

How can I make money off if I’m not selling meal plans, diet programs, detoxes, and cleanse?

If I’m not creating complex protocols for my clients: why would they pay me?

These questions stem from the fact is that this business is not a formulated typical health business and does not hold the same value system considering that most health businesses are created to support diet culture ideology. In contrast, this business is based on self-compassion, trust, respect of the individual innate body wisdom, and ability to heal themselves.

The most prevalent difference in a diet culture-free business resides in its approach to healing. An intuitive eating business is anchored in what I describe as a “bottom-up” approach versus a “top-down” approach. That is to say, the goal is to empower you to become your own expert at your body. On the other hand, a typical health business that is rooted in diet culture is built around the provider being the expert and telling you how to engage with your body. As a result, it leaves clients and patients disempowered.

We will reveal what steps you should take to create a heart-centred intuitive eating business that will be successful.

What you'll learn in this episode on the business of intuitive eating * What is an intuitive eating business? * Who do we serve in this type of business? * What is an Intuitive Eating Coach? * Serving versus Selling non-diet model of business * The first step to start an intuitive eating business * Why Non-Diet Business coaching is different * What is a Non-Diet Mentorship program?

Welcome to the first episode of the Undiet Your Coaching Practice Podcast. This podcast is created to educate female health professionals on a non-diet approach to food, weight, and health.

Intuitive Eating Coaching In today’s episode, we discuss how we may be causing harm to our clients and patients by delivering nutrition services. By following a traditional model of nutrition and health care for women, we may be aggravating an underlying condition and symptoms.

In this episode, I share my patient Caroline's (fictitious name) story along with how she changed my practice forever In fact, she was the most impactful client-practitioner experience I have had to this day. She triggered in me the must-needed professional and personal transformation. My quest for another way of serving my clients through intuitive eating coaching and healing myself began.

Caroline had a disordered relationship with food due to years of chronic dieting. All of my assessment tools and training never accounted for this condition simply because to the traditional medical system chronic dieting is “normal” ... yet it has devastating health consequences.

Here’s what we cover in this intuitive eating coaching episode: * My client Caroline’s story * As nutrition experts, are we causing harm to our clients? * What is a non-diet approach to food & weight? * How to shift to a non-diet approach in a professional practice * Continuing to earn a living while not selling weight loss * How to get started with a non-diet approach to health
