There is much that we can learn from the theologians of the past. On today's episode of Theologically Speaking, we focus in on Herman Bavink. Herman Bavinck was a Dutch theologian in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Bavinck was born on December 13, 1854, in the town of Hoogeveen in the Netherlands to a German father, Jan Bavinck (1826–1909), who was the minister of theologically conservative, Christian Reformed Church. He grew up no stranger to the ministry. He also was not a stranger to wrestling with the many different political and social topics that came up in his day.
Every person has a story playing in their head that informs them about the world around them. This impacts all of their decisions in some fashion. It is how they interpret everything from politics to all of their personal experiences. Just because it is a compelling story does not mean it is the right one. How can having a distorted worldview impact your ministry?
The last 12 months have been some of the most challenging times for ministry in recent memory. In the midst of a both confusing and complex world, it is important that we preserve the simple truth of the gospel. This week, we get to listen in on a sermon brought to us by Ken Casillas, who is both a BJU Seminary professor and a local pastor. The text he is speaking from is 2 Corinthians 4:1-6.
Ministry-minded couples are one of the greatest gifts to the church. Husbands and wives should be continuously striving to invest in each other in order advance gospel. Together, they can become an extremely effective team for the cause of Christ.
