How are you, really? Personally, I’m feeling the heaviness that the holidays can bring.

It’s the first holiday with my dad in a nursing home and it just feels… different. And sad.

My to-do list feels never ending and the holiday mental load is overwhelming.

And it got me thinking about how the holidays aren’t always the “most wonderful time of the year”.

So, I’m checking in. And seeing how you are.

Listen to the whole episode because I share my gift to you.

Here is the link to schedule:

And P.S.,

There will be no new episodes in December so you can catch up on previous episodes and so I can create new episodes.

Self-Care is defined as the process of taking care of oneself, and it truly is such an important part of life.

If we don’t show up for ourselves, and take the time to make sure we are cared for, how can we possibly help everybody around us?

When people think of self-care, they tend to assume it means taking an entire spa day, spending lots of money, or maybe having a fancy meal. While these are all great activities, they are not always realistic and tend to not fit in with our day to day lives.

I don’t know about you, but being a mom of two boys doesn’t give me extra time or funds to take a weekly spa trip. I know others may also feel this way which is why I wanted to bring this podcast episode to life. We will be learning all about realistic self-care, from what it means to examples of how to practice it.

I am excited to have you on this journey with me. Please leave me a comment with ways you perform realistic self-care, I would love to read through them!

In this episode, you’ll learn:

3 ways to practice realistic self-care:

-Meeting your basic needs

-Self-talk

-Self-regulation

Many times there is a simple solution to a problem or issue that we are having. But we overcomplicate it by telling ourselves a story about the situation.

For example, I hate doing burpees. The simple solution would be to not do burpees.

But my brain offers me this story: "You have to do burpees. That's part of the program. Fit people do burpees. If you don't do the burpees, you won't get the benefit of this workout".

And this story OVERcomplicates a situation that is actually really simple.

This week, join me for episode 6, the one where we stop overcomplicating.

In this episode you'll learn:

  • why we overcomplicate things

  • 3 real life examples of overcomplicating

  • how to stop overcomplicating

Welcome to the first episode of Reclaim Your Life With Kate. For this first episode, Kate is going to talk about what stress and overwhelm are, external vs. internal stressors and what you can do about it. The first definition of stress is a neurological and physiological shift that happens in your body. It's anything that you see, touch, hear, taste or imagine that can cause you harm. The second definition of stress Kate gives us is when we evaluate environmental demand as beyond our ability to cope. Kate explains to us what some of the external stressors that may be in our life, particularly societal expectations, and offers being a mom as an example.  All of the self-talk we have about our bodies, or the memories of our traumatic experiences we hold on to, as well as our worries are examples of internal stressors. Kate talks to us about the brain and explains the differences between our animal brain, or as she calls it, the "brainimal", and the thinking brain. She also explains to us where the fight or flight response comes in to all of this. She gives us real life examples of a scenario, helping us understand our brains and stressors better. Kate openly shares with us what she goes through with stress and offers the way to deal with it. If you enjoyed the episode, please be sure to leave review and subscribe so we can reach a wider audience and help people get rid of the stress and reclaim their lives. Thanks for listening!
