Heartland Christian Center is a church where we teach the Bible, connect in groups, and focus on growing in our daily relationship with Jesus Christ. Heartland Christian Center is a part of the Assemblies of God cooperative fellowship. The Assemblies of God is a protestant fellowship with an emphasis on Pentecost and evangelism. We believe that God is alive and at work today, and that we can know Him personally through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ. For more information please visit hcc.ag.
In Gospel of John 13:34–35, Jesus gives His disciples a defining mark: love one another as He has loved us. This message explores what that kind of love truly looks like—not sentimental or convenient, but sacrificial, intentional, and transformative. Drawing from Romans 12, we’ll discover the source of Jesus-style love (a heart changed by Him), the shape of Jesus-style love (humble, empathetic, and inclusive), and the practice of Jesus-style love (choosing peace, rejecting retaliation, and acting in obedience even when it’s hard). This sermon challenges us to move beyond passive kindness into active, Christlike love that becomes the evidence of a life genuinely transformed by Jesus.

Following Jesus is not a one-time moment but a lifelong journey of transformation. This message explores how true discipleship begins with surrender, is shaped inwardly before it’s seen outwardly, and is empowered by the work of the Holy Spirit. As God continues the work He started in us, we are called to grow, change, and not remain the same—becoming more loving, more surrendered, and more aware of His presence each day.

This message focuses on discipleship as a way of life, not just a set of beliefs. Drawing from Mark 1:16–18 and Matthew 11:28–29, Senior Pastor Dr. Phil Willingham teaches that following Jesus is personal, immediate, and transformational. Discipleship is not about information—it’s about imitation.
The sermon challenges us to examine what we’re holding onto that may be limiting where Jesus wants to lead us. When we release our “nets” in obedience, Jesus replaces them with purpose. Discipleship is about formation, not performance—true rest is found in alignment with Jesus, not pressure or religious striving. As we learn to be with Jesus, we are empowered by the Spirit to live on mission, allowing transformation to lead to multiplication. God isn’t looking for ability, but availability, as He calls us to follow, be formed, and be sent.

This message reminds us that prayer is not just about shifting our hearts—it’s about releasing what was never meant for us to carry. Using Matthew 6:25–34, Pastor Matt teaches that worry is rooted in control, fear of provision, and anxiety about tomorrow. Prayer becomes the place where we stop gripping tightly and begin trusting fully.
The sermon shows that worry reveals who we’re relying on, while prayer becomes the exchange point where anxiety is submitted rather than suppressed. Control and trust cannot coexist—peace comes when we let go and seek God’s kingdom first. Prayer doesn’t deny reality, but it refuses to let worry have the final word. When we trust God today, His peace stands guard over our hearts, even when life feels uncertain.

This message teaches that prayer is not about changing God’s will to fit our desires, but allowing God to reshape our hearts to trust Him more fully. Drawing from Psalm 37:3–7 and Matthew 6:10–11, Pastor Matt emphasizes that prayer realigns what we want, how we see, and who we trust. God is far more interested in transforming our hearts than fixing our circumstances.
The sermon highlights that prayer begins with surrender, not requests. As we delight in the Lord and commit our ways to Him, our desires begin to match God’s design. Rather than chasing answers or control, prayer teaches us to trust God’s provision, embrace His purpose, and rest patiently in Him. When we seek God’s will first, we discover that what He provides—our “daily bread”—is truly enough.

Prayer is not an accessory to the Christian life—it is the foundation of it. In this message, Pastor Dr. Phil Willingham walks through Jesus’ response to His disciples’ request, “Lord, teach us to pray,” from Luke 11:1–4. We are reminded that everything Jesus did flowed out of His prayer life, showing us that prayer begins with relationship, centers on God before ourselves, and teaches daily dependence on Him. This message challenges us to move beyond occasional prayers and step into a lifestyle of prayer that shapes our hearts, deepens our trust, and aligns us with God’s will—both personally and as a church.

This New Year message, rooted in Ezekiel 36:26, calls the church to begin again—not by trying harder, but by surrendering deeper. God promises to replace hearts of stone with hearts made alive by His Spirit, leading His people into deeper dependence on Him and wider compassion for their community. The sermon challenges believers to start the year with repentance, prayer, obedience, and corporate unity, trusting the Holy Spirit to renew, revive, and reshape their lives. A new year doesn’t begin with resolutions, but with a new heart fully yielded to God’s will and purpose.

This sermon challenges believers to redefine vision—not as what we see with our eyes, but as the ability to recognize God’s presence, trust God’s power, and stay focused on God’s plan despite opposition. Drawing from 2 Kings, Ephesians, Habakkuk, and Hebrews, the message reminds us that obstacles don’t eliminate God’s activity; they often reveal it. When our spiritual eyes are opened, fear is replaced with faith, distractions give way to purpose, and endurance is found by fixing our focus on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.

This sermon highlights how the small moments of the Christmas story reveal the greatness of who Jesus is. Through the shepherds, we see that feeling forgotten is not the same as being forgotten—God’s heart reaches the overlooked. Through Joseph and Mary, the details reveal God’s purpose, showing that Jesus’ very name declares His mission to save. The gifts of the wise men proclaim His identity as King, Priest, and Savior, and the incarnation itself reveals His nearness—God coming close enough to understand and strong enough to save. The message invites us to come to Jesus, return to Him, and draw closer, trusting that every detail reveals His love and intention for our lives.

This sermon, based on Isaiah 40:31, reminds believers that stillness is not idleness—it’s preparation for movement. In God’s presence, we are shaped, strengthened, marked, and sent. Drawing from Acts 1–4, Pastor Matt explains that stillness shapes our posture to reflect Jesus’ patience and humility, fuels our power through the Holy Spirit, marks us with identity that makes God’s people recognizable, and sends us with boldness into the world. The message closes with the truth that stillness isn’t about escape; it’s training for mission—the quiet before the calling.

This sermon, based on Isaiah 40:28–31 and James 4:7, calls believers to stand firm in spiritual strength by learning how to resist the enemy through stillness and alignment with God. The message outlines practical steps for victory: standing on truth to counter emotional attacks, guarding the gates of the heart and mind, staying in alignment through intimacy with God, and rooting identity in Christ rather than circumstances. Resistance is not passive—it’s strategic. The sermon concludes with five principles for spiritual stability: stand on truth, guard inputs, stay aligned, remain rooted in identity, and respond with strategy, not emotion.

This sermon, based on Exodus 14:10–14, explores how waiting on God is not inactivity but divine development. When the Israelites faced the Red Sea with the Egyptians behind them, fear made them forget God’s past faithfulness. Yet, God was working the way, working the heart, working the strength, and working the miracle behind the scenes. Waiting reveals what God is shaping in us, not just what He’s preparing for us. The message challenges believers to see delays as part of God’s design—where weakness births strength, faith replaces fear, and God receives all the glory when the breakthrough comes.

This sermon, based on Psalm 77:11–15 and Isaiah 40:28–31, focuses on the spiritual discipline of pondering—intentionally remembering and reflecting on God’s past faithfulness. To ponder is to pause panic, recall provision, and process God’s power until it shapes our hearts. When we ponder His works, truth moves from mere information to formation, turning trials into worship fuel and private reflection into public testimony. The message teaches that pondering preserves praise, deepens trust, and strengthens believers to proclaim God’s redemption with confidence.

This sermon, based on Isaiah 40:28–31, emphasizes that spiritual strength is renewed in moments of stillness before God. The “pause” is not weakness but surrender to His strength. It begins with recognizing who God is—the everlasting Creator who never grows weary. In that pause, we receive His power as our emptiness becomes the place for His empowerment. When we wait on the Lord, we rise with renewed strength and perspective, and from that posture, we run with sustained stamina and purpose. The message calls believers to embrace the pause as the key to endurance and peace in every season.

This sermon, based on John 14:15–18 and Romans 12:2, explores how the Holy Spirit’s work is both unchanging in nature and ever fresh in expression. God doesn’t just comfort us—He strengthens and transforms us by renewing our minds, not replacing them. The message reminds believers that while God never changes, He continually moves in new ways, calling us to remain flexible and receptive. A renewed mindset allows us to recognize and embrace the new things God is doing instead of clinging to the old. True transformation begins when we let the Spirit reshape our perspective.

This sermon, based on Romans 8:26–27, reminds believers that weakness is not a disqualification—it’s an invitation for the Holy Spirit to move. The Spirit meets us in our frailty, translating our unspoken prayers and interceding in perfect alignment with God’s will. When we face uncertainty, the simple prayer “Come, Holy Spirit” invites His presence and power into our lives. True strength is found in dependence, not self-sufficiency. The message challenges us to admit our weakness, ask for His help, and trust His intercession, knowing that we are never alone in prayer.

This sermon, based on Acts 1:6–8 and Galatians 5:16–25, explores how the Holy Spirit empowers believers not just for church moments but for everyday living. The Spirit acts as our Protector, guarding us from our own fleshly tendencies; our Pilot, guiding our direction and decisions; and the One who sets our pace, helping us walk in unity and purpose. Living in the Spirit means opening up to His presence, operating in His power, and offering that same grace to others. God’s power isn’t meant to be admired—it’s meant to be applied in daily life.

This sermon, based on Psalm 57, highlights how a strong foundation in God enables believers to remain steady even in life’s fiercest storms. David’s situation was filled with threats and opposition, yet his shift came not from what he saw but from what he declared. His steadfast heart turned to worship, showing that singing in the storm is not denial but a declaration of faith. The message teaches that God’s refuge is active, and standing firm requires a continual decision to trust Him. True resilience is built when our foundation rests fully in the Lord.

This sermon, based on Matthew 7:24–27, contrasts a life built on the solid rock of Christ with one weakened by compromise. True commitment means putting Christ first, being steadfast, and declaring, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Compromise, however, leads to instability, divided loyalty, and spiritual collapse when storms come. Storms reveal the foundation of our lives—only commitment to Christ, the tested cornerstone, will stand firm. The message calls believers to define their non-negotiables, eliminate areas of compromise, and storm-proof their lives through daily prayer, obedience, and declaration of faith.

This sermon, based on Matthew 7:24–27 and Joshua 1:6–9, teaches that the foundation of our lives determines our future, and storms reveal what’s hidden beneath. Fear is like sand—it paralyzes, magnifies problems, and leads to disobedience. But courage, built on the solid rock of God’s promises, leads to obedience, victory, and peace. True courage doesn’t come from ourselves but from God’s presence, which assures us He is with us wherever we go. The message challenges believers to step forward in faith, trusting God’s Word, and choosing courage in the face of fear.

This sermon, based on Matthew 7:24–27, challenges believers to examine what foundation they are building their lives upon. Jesus contrasts the wise builder, who not only hears His words but also puts them into practice, with the foolish builder who neglects obedience. Storms reveal what lies beneath—intentions are not enough; only a solid foundation in Christ can withstand life’s pressures. Building on the Rock means living in trust, surrender, and daily dependence on Jesus. While faith doesn’t make us storm-free, it makes us storm-proof when our lives are anchored in Him.

This sermon, based on Romans 15:20–32, emphasizes what it takes to live a life that truly goes the distance for Christ. Like Paul, believers need a plan to guide their steps and a purpose rooted in serving others with affection, generosity, and responsibility. To endure, we also need God’s power—a magnificent obsession with His mission, a possession of His blessing, and intercession that protects, provides, and strengthens us. The message calls believers to align their lives with God’s will so they can live with joy, resilience, and lasting impact.

This sermon, based on Romans 12:4–8, reminds believers that every Christian has been uniquely gifted by God—not for status, but for service. Ministry isn’t about titles or platforms; it’s about living out God’s purpose and making a difference in the lives of others. The message challenges us to discover our spiritual gifts, develop them through growth and practice, dedicate them back to God, and deploy them for His glory and the good of people. True impact comes not from position, but from a willing heart and obedient hands.

This message emphasizes that we were created for more than material success—we were made for deep relationships with God and one another. True discipleship means moving from simply attending church to belonging as family, learning to live like Jesus, and growing through authentic connections. Scripture reminds us that while the world often leaves people relationally poor through busyness, convenience, and technology, the church is called to model a better way. A strong Christian community is marked by sharing openly, accepting flaws, and standing together in life’s battles. Community isn’t optional—it’s essential for discipleship and for showing Christ’s love to the world.

This sermon, based on Ephesians 4:11–12 and Matthew 28:19–20, emphasizes that the mission of the Church is movement, not just gathering. Evangelism is God’s will, grounded in Christ’s completed work, and requires our willingness to be used. Believers are not called to simply fill seats, but to occupy streets—sharing the gospel through authentic relationships, personal stories, and intentional outreach. The message reminds us that evangelism is not about making the church more attractive, but about lifting Jesus higher so that all may be drawn to Him.

This sermon outlines the full mission of the Church—not just to gather people, but to grow, ground, and guide them into living out their calling. It walks through four essential steps: Evangelize the lost, Assimilate them into the church body, Disciple them in faith, and Release them into ministry. True church impact comes when believers move from just attending to actively advancing God’s Kingdom—locally and globally—through intentional outreach, connection, spiritual growth, and service.

This message from Hebrews 11:32–35a calls believers to a faith that acts—conquering, establishing justice, and defending in the face of danger. True faith lets God turn weakness into strength, fights battles before we “feel ready,” and believes He can revive what seems dead. Anchored by Paul’s charge in 2 Timothy 4:7, the challenge is clear: pick up your faith again, face your lions, and finish the fight God started in you.

This sermon, based on Judges 6–7, recounts the calling of Gideon to illustrate how God calls us to fight battles we don’t feel ready for—not because we’re strong, but because He is. Gideon’s story shows that God sees a warrior even when we see weakness. Faith doesn’t eliminate fear; it empowers us to move forward despite it. God often reduces our resources to increase our reliance, reminding us that victory comes from surrender, not strategy. When we trust God's math and respond with obedience, He does the supernatural through the surrendered.

This sermon, based on Genesis 6–9 and Hebrews 11:7, unpacks the radical obedience of Noah as an example of Crazy Faith—faith that follows God even when it defies logic or social approval. Noah obeyed without understanding, endured ridicule, waited patiently through the unknown, and ultimately saw God’s covenant and legacy unfold. The message reminds believers that real faith doesn't wait for clarity—it acts on conviction, stands firm amid doubt, and trusts God to finish what He starts.

This sermon, based on 1 Kings 19:19–21 and Hebrews 11:1, teaches that extraordinary, “crazy” faith begins with ordinary faithfulness. Like Elisha, who was faithfully plowing when called by Elijah, God looks for those already committed in the now. Crazy faith calls believers to leave comfort, take bold action without full understanding, and fully trust God. Through obedience, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication, faith becomes the bridge between where you are and where God is taking you. The challenge: Will your future find you faithful?

This sermon, drawn from Matthew 14:22–33, explores Peter’s bold step of faith as he walks on water toward Jesus. It teaches that faith is not just belief—it’s movement, especially in the middle of life’s storms. True faith listens for Christ’s voice amid fear, steps out in obedience, and stays focused on Him. When distractions cause us to sink, Jesus still reaches out. The message encourages believers to act not out of certainty but because of their calling, reminding us that faith moves when Jesus says, “Come.”

This sermon, based on Daniel 3:16–25, tells the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who chose unwavering faith in the face of death. It highlights how faith is not proven in comfort but in crisis, and that trials reveal—not build—the strength of our belief. Their declaration, “even if He does not,” shows that true faith trusts God regardless of outcome. In the fire, they discovered God's presence, showing that He doesn't just deliver from the fire but walks with us in it, transforming fear into a place of divine encounter.

This sermon, based on Joshua 14:6-14, celebrates the unwavering faith of Caleb, who at 85 years old boldly claimed the promise God gave him decades earlier. Mountain-moving faith is rooted in God's promises, unshaken by age or delay, and willing to confront giants like fear, addiction, and insecurity. Caleb’s courage left a legacy that stretched across generations. The message challenges believers to reclaim old promises, declare God’s faithfulness, and step into action—not just for themselves, but for the legacy of faith they’re building.

This sermon, based on Mark 2:1–12, illustrates what unstoppable faith looks like—faith that is persistent, active, and centered on bringing people to Jesus. The friends of the paralyzed man didn’t let obstacles stop them; their faith saw opportunity, moved to action, and blessed others. Jesus responded to their faith, showing that God moves in response to belief, not panic. The message encourages believers to develop a faith that carries others, grabs God's attention, and ultimately leads to undeniable transformation.

This sermon, rooted in Hebrews 11:1–6 and Matthew 7:24–27, emphasizes that faith is the foundation of a strong life. Faith begins not with seeing, but with hearing God's Word, and it grows through obedient action. Just like a house built on rock, a life built on trust in God will withstand the storms. Faith doesn't promise ease—it promises endurance. True faith is pleasing to God, grounded in believing He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him. Every step of faith lays another brick in a life that honors God.

This sermon, based on Exodus 3–4, explores the tension between God’s calling and our self-doubt. Like Moses, we may question our calling, capacity, or God’s course for our lives. But God doesn’t require eloquence or perfection—just obedience and willingness. He uses what we already have and surrounds us with help when we feel inadequate. The message reminds us that God never asked us to be enough on our own—His power and presence are what make us capable of fulfilling His call.

This sermon explores how doubt often arises when life doesn’t meet our expectations, but reminds us that doubt is human—not sinful. Drawing from the lives of Abraham, John the Baptist, Thomas, and Peter, the message emphasizes that even godly people wrestle with uncertainty. Doubt may visit, but it should not take residence. Believers are encouraged to admit doubts, borrow faith, and act in trust, anchoring themselves in God’s truth. The powerful declaration closes with a bold resolve to choose faith repeatedly, trusting in the One who guides every step.

This sermon, based on Genesis 18:9–15, explores how doubt can emerge not from rebellion, but from weariness, especially when God’s promises seem delayed or impossible. Sarah’s laughter reveals that doubt can be a defense against disappointment, and cynicism is often wounded hope. Yet, even in our uncertainty, God remains faithful. Faith isn’t about never questioning—it’s about declaring truth in the gap between what we see and what God says. The message reminds us that God works not because we believe perfectly, but because He always keeps His word.

This sermon, based on Matthew 28:17, addresses the reality of doubt in the life of a believer. It clarifies that doubt is not the opposite of faith—unbelief is. Doubt reflects a desire to believe, not a refusal. Scripture shows that even the disciples struggled with doubt, reminding us that it’s human, not sinful. The message encourages believers to face doubt honestly, seek help, care for their spiritual health, and trust that God is present even in our uncertainties, using doubt as a path to stronger, deeper faith.

This sermon, based on Philippians 3:7–11, teaches that true gain comes through surrender. Paul reminds believers to release what doesn’t last, revalue what truly matters, rely on Christ’s righteousness, and run after resurrection life. Freedom is found not in holding onto worldly success or personal achievements, but in knowing Christ deeply. Though the path may include suffering, it leads to glory, as believers experience the power of His resurrection.

This Easter sermon, based on John 20:1–10, invites listeners to reflect on the resurrection of Jesus and what it means for their personal faith. God moves in the dark moments, and faith compels us to run toward Him even when we don’t fully understand. The empty tomb is evidence of hope, and the folded cloth represents intentional resurrection power. As C.S. Lewis said, Christianity is either of infinite importance or none at all. The call is clear: heed Jesus’ voice, step out of the grave, and bring your grave clothes to Him for transformation and new life.

This sermon, based on Philippians 2:5–11, explores the paradox of the Kingdom: true greatness comes through humble surrender. Jesus, though equal with God, emptied Himself, choosing to serve and obey—even to the point of death on the cross. Total surrender means prioritizing service over self, embracing obedience and sacrifice, and ultimately living to glorify God. The message challenges believers to lay down entitlement, live with humility, and reflect Christ’s glory through their surrendered lives.

This sermon, drawn from Luke 22 and Luke 5, emphasizes that God uses, empowers, and moves through those who make themselves available. Jesus modeled availability through prayer and obedience, even in distress. The message outlines four key truths: availability begins with obedience, it creates space for the miraculous, it leads to empowerment through the Holy Spirit, and it ultimately earns respect as a mark of character. The challenge is to ask what might be blocking availability and how we can respond more fully—even in seasons of stress or limitation.

This sermon, based on John 16:7-15, emphasizes that the Holy Spirit is not passive—He is active, personal, and essential in the life of every believer. As the cultivator of hardened hearts, convictor of sin, converter of souls, and comforter after conversion, the Holy Spirit empowers us to continue Christ’s mission. Believers are called to obey God's promptings, knowing the Holy Spirit leads, guides, and moves through us to advance the Kingdom. Our responsibility is obedience—the outcome belongs to God.

This sermon traces the journey of the Holy Spirit from a promised gift to a present empowerment for believers. Drawing from key scriptures like John 20:21-22, Joel 2:28-29, and Acts 2, it emphasizes the transformational power of the Spirit poured out on all people. The Holy Spirit is not a formula to understand but a person to experience. Believers are invited to walk daily in His presence—empowered, bold, and fully immersed in God's purpose for their lives.

This sermon, based on Galatians 5:22-23, explores the purpose, process, and proof of the fruit of the Spirit in a believer's life. The purpose of the fruit is to reflect Christ, make us more like Jesus, and serve others. The process requires abiding in Christ, as fruit takes time to grow. The proof of spiritual fruit is seen in staying connected to the Holy Spirit, allowing God to prune us, and actively cultivating spiritual growth. True transformation comes through consistent reliance on Christ.

In this sermon delivered by Lead Pastor Dr. Phil Willingham on December 31, 2023, the focus is on Luke 12:22–34, where Jesus advises against worrying about life's necessities. The discourse begins with three observations on universal human concerns: health and finances, identifying them as persistent issues. Worry, defined as excessive concern over life's affairs, is deemed a sin for displacing God and distracting from life's essential aspects. The sermon distinguishes between specific and non-specific anxiety, offering insights on recognizing when legitimate concerns transform into sinful worries. Practical indicators include persistent preoccupation and frequent mention in conversations. The scriptural foundation is emphasized with 1 Peter 5:7, variously translated to highlight casting cares upon God. The action encouraged is a deliberate release, casting all cares onto God. The sermon concludes with the divine destination of this deliberate release, emphasizing that trusting God with our worries is a deliberate, transformative act leading to freedom from the chains of worry.
This sermon delves into Luke 2:1-7, emphasizing the missed blessings during the first Christmas and drawing parallels to the present. The narrative reveals how Mary and Joseph, amidst the chaos of taxation, missed the blessing of a proper place for the birth of Jesus. Similarly, the modern world is often filled with hustle, noise, and distractions, leading to missed spiritual blessings. The first point explores how these blessings were missed then and are still missed now. The sermon then shifts to a practical guide on making room for Jesus in our lives. Step 1 involves stopping, drawing inspiration from Psalm 39:2 and Psalm 46:10, encouraging self-reflection on the necessity of actions. Step 2 is about starting, referencing Matthew 6:21 and Proverbs 10:27, prompting listeners to evaluate the expectations on them and align with God's goals. Philippians 3:13-18 reinforces the call to remain focused on Christ despite distractions. The sermon concludes with thought-provoking questions, challenging listeners to assess their holiday experience and intentionally make room for Jesus.

This sermon dives into the multifaceted responses to the Christmas message, drawing insights from Matthew 2:1-6. For some, Christmas is an inspiring message, akin to the wise men from the East who responded to the revelation of Jesus' birth with worship. Their journey reflects the impact of revelation and the appropriate response. However, for others, Christmas can be an intimidating message. Jesus poses challenges to those who call Him Lord but struggle to align with His teachings (Luke 6:46). The change required can be unsettling, as seen in Herod's troubled response. Lastly, for some, Christmas is deemed insignificant, despite having all the facts. The chief priests and scribes, armed with knowledge, lacked the faith to recognize the significance of the moment. This sermon encourages introspection on how each listener perceives and responds to the profound message of Christmas.

Exploring the profound narrative of Mary's encounter with the divine in Luke 1:26-38 and the wisdom in Proverbs 25:2, this sermon dives into the power of curiosity. Mary's questioning and pondering in the face of the miraculous birth of Jesus exemplify an active, observant mind that seeks new possibilities. The sermon delves into how curiosity makes our minds come alive, opens us to exciting possibilities, and encourages us to be relentless questioners. Cultivating a healthy sense of curiosity involves keeping an open mind, questioning assumptions, and finding the joy in learning. The application challenges us to embrace curiosity in our lives and discern how God might be calling us to explore the wonders around us.

The narrative prompts introspective questions: Am I grateful even when I am waiting? Am I grateful even when circumstances aren't favorable? Am I grateful even in my frustrations? The story challenges listeners to cultivate gratitude not just in moments of joy but especially in the midst of challenges. It underscores that a heart filled with gratitude has the capacity to see the glory of God even in the most challenging circumstances.

In Luke 17:11-19, the contrast between the lepers' initial request and the subsequent responses to healing reveals profound insights into the human heart. The lepers, desperate and diseased, cried out for mercy. Yet, as they received healing, the majority remained silent in their gratitude. Jesus, astonished, questioned the absence of the nine, highlighting the prevalence of ingratitude. The Samaritan, however, stood out—a lone emblem of thankfulness. This story prompts reflection on our own responses to divine interventions. It urges us to explore the reasons behind ingratitude and the transformative power of a genuinely grateful heart.

In a sermon titled "Questions Jesus Answered," Lead Pastor Dr. Phil Willingham delves into the inquiries posed by Jesus' disciples regarding the timing of significant events and the signs of His return. These questions revolved around when these events would occur, what signs would herald Christ's coming, and when the present age would culminate. Amid this discussion, Jesus emphasized the importance of not knowing the precise day of His arrival, stressing vigilance and readiness. Pastor Willingham elucidated four critical teachings derived from Jesus' words. First, he highlighted the need to avoid being misled. Second, he discussed the importance of remaining unalarmed, even in the face of troubling signs. Third, he underscored the significance of spiritual preparedness and being on guard, which may involve facing trials and tribulations. Lastly, Pastor Willingham emphasized the importance of not succumbing to anxiety. These teachings are underpinned by scriptural passages, providing a comprehensive perspective on preparing for Christ's return. To conclude, four principal parameters were introduced: seriousness, prioritizing scripture over sensationalism, focusing on the second coming instead of the rapture, and acknowledging that certain events serve as stage-setting rather than fulfillment.

The passage from Luke 10:38-42 presents a profound lesson on the choice between growth and comfort. It reminds us that growth and comfort rarely go hand in hand. Discerning what needs to stay and what needs to go in our lives is essential. The story of Martha and Mary highlights several key aspects: Martha's concerns, her complaint about her sister's inaction, the correction from Jesus, and ultimately, Mary's choice of what was better. While focused on preparations, Martha's distractions and worries were detrimental to her relationships. Jesus gently corrected her and praised Mary for choosing the better path, emphasizing that sometimes we fill our lives with everything except what truly matters. This story serves as a valuable reminder for us to prioritize the most important aspects of life and not let distractions and busyness overshadow what is truly better.

In Mark 10:17-31, a rich young man approaches Jesus with questions about eternal life. This story highlights the positives of his approach – coming at the right time and person, asking the right question, and receiving the right answer from Jesus. The man's longing for eternal life reflects his prosperous means, proper manners, pure morals, and powerful motives. As Jesus observes him, His logic and love are evident, setting the stage for an offer of new life based on keeping the commandments. However, the man's sorrowful departure reveals the loss he faces due to his great possessions. The message clarifies the cost of following Christ, which involves giving back aspects of one's life – time, temple, talent, testimony, and treasure – to the Lord.

In Mark 11:27-33, the religious leaders question Jesus' authority, leading to a reflection on the established, challenged, rejected, and eventually accepted authority of Jesus. The authority of Jesus is demonstrated through power over nature, evil, illness, death, sin, circumstances, and profound teaching. Individuals are called to confront and decide on Jesus' authority in their lives. Key takeaways emphasize trusting and submitting to Jesus' authority, prioritizing truth over popularity, expecting opposition in divine missions, and actively spreading the empowering message of Jesus' unparalleled authority.

This passage from Acts 20:7-12 recounts a significant event where Paul's lengthy sermon led to an unexpected miracle. A young man named Eutychus, dozing off during the sermon, fell from a third-story window but was miraculously revived by Paul. The sermon then transitions to historical beliefs about the Messiah's expected miracles, emphasizing the four specific kinds of miracles the Rabbis taught only the Messiah could perform. The sermon underlines how these expectations were surpassed through real-life testimonies of miraculous healings and resurrections, demonstrating the extraordinary nature of Jesus' ministry.

The sermon delves into the profound meaning of compassion, emphasizing that it extends beyond mere niceness or kind gestures. It stresses that compassion doesn't involve suppressing emotions or overlooking reality but calls for a deeper understanding. The narrative of the woman caught in adultery, presented in John 8:2-11, is analyzed to exemplify compassion. The teaching highlights that compassion allows us to refrain from labeling individuals based on their lowest moments. It also prompts us to recognize the true enemy and avoid overlooking sin while approaching others with empathy and understanding, following Christ's example of a compassionate mindset in dealing with people.

The sermon emphasizes the transformative power of compassion based on Deuteronomy 15:11 and Luke 5:17-20. Compassion is defined as deep empathy and a desire to alleviate the suffering of others. Three vital actions are outlined to cultivate compassion: being attentive to notice those in need, being flexible to shift from conventional approaches, and embracing interruptions that enable us to show compassion. The narrative in Luke 5:17-20 is dissected, focusing on the distinct reactions of the critics, the obstructive crowd, and the compassionate individuals who took extraordinary steps to bring a paralyzed man to Jesus for healing. The message underscores the necessity of action and empathy, urging listeners to actively extend compassion beyond barriers and societal norms.

This sermon delves into the story of the woman with the alabaster jar who anointed Jesus' feet. Using Luke 7:37-47 as the foundation, it highlights the critical lesson of looking beyond external appearances, as exemplified by Simon the Pharisee. Simon's judgment was solely based on outward actions, demonstrating a common human tendency to evaluate others from the outside. However, Jesus challenges this perspective by emphasizing the importance of recognizing the depth of a person's heart and their capacity for forgiveness and love. The sermon encourages listeners to cultivate compassion, foster meaningful relationships, and be open to divine interruptions, ultimately reflecting on how their relationship with God impacts their capacity to love others.

Matthew 3:13-17 recounts the momentous event of Jesus' baptism by John, highlighting a significant aspect of our identity: our worth in the eyes of God. Our worth is often misunderstood and should not be determined by others. God alone defines our value, and He is willing to move us into new realms of identity. This truth is echoed in Isaiah 62:2. Furthermore, our worth is ultimately as valuable as what someone is willing to pay for it, a concept reflected in the words of David Foster Wallace. Psalm 139 poignantly emphasizes God's intimate knowledge of each individual, as He intricately forms and knows every aspect of our being. Ephesians 2:1-5 emphasizes the transformative power of Christ's mercy and love, demonstrating that we are not defined by our past actions but by the grace of God. This understanding sets the stage for a new beginning, as stated in 2 Corinthians 5:17. Our identity is not shaped by our mistakes, but by God's redemptive declaration of who we are.

Luke 14:7-14, Romans 9:19-24, and Jeremiah 18:1-3 present profound truths about humanity's relationship with God and their identity in Him. These passages remind us that we are intricately crafted by Jesus, our Creator, for His glory. Although our life paths may differ, our overarching purpose remains the same: to bring glory to God. The assurance of Christ's redemptive plan ensures that this fallen world does not have the final say, and the hope of reconciliation through Christ's sacrifice reshapes our lives. Amidst suffering, the glory of Jesus shines through our joy and strength, underscoring our unwavering faith. Embracing the gospel compels us to humbly trust Christ and urgently share His transformative message, reflecting the humility of a clay in the hands of the Potter.

Mark 5:1-9 unveils a man possessed by unclean spirits who, upon encountering Jesus, found deliverance and a renewed identity. This story underscores God's original intention for humanity – to have both relationship and rulership. While the world often defines identity through possessions and religion through actions, God's word affirms that true identity is rooted in being His beloved children. Ephesians 1:1-6 emphasizes the depth of this truth, highlighting that Christianity is not merely about behavioral modification but recognizing the righteousness we have in Christ. Humility emerges from accepting God's perspective of us as saints, chosen and accepted in His love. It's a call to awaken to our righteousness-consciousness rather than dwelling on sin-consciousness. This profound identity shift enables us to confidently proclaim the greatness of God's work in our lives, just as the man in Mark 5:20 did after encountering Jesus. The journey to true identity involves embracing God's grace and living out the purpose of relationship with Him.

In Luke 6:46-49, Jesus emphasizes the importance of obeying His teachings by using three verbs: come, hear, and act. The process begins with coming to Jesus, finding rest and learning from Him. Next, believers must attentively hear His words, embracing a life in the Spirit rather than the flesh. The final step is to put His teachings into action, not just reading the Bible to complete a task but to connect with Christ and surrender to His plan. James 1:19-25 emphasizes the significance of being doers of the Word, not merely hearers. To act upon these teachings, believers must know Jesus' words, delight in Him, and trust that God's plan is always superior to their own. By establishing a strong foundation of obedience, Christians can withstand the storms of life and build a life that is blessed by following God's plan.
Hebrews 12:1-3 reminds believers to strip down any spiritual fat and passionately pursue their faith journey, just as Jesus did. To regain momentum in their spiritual walk, they need zeal and fervor to fuel their passion for serving the Lord. Passion keeps one aflame and alert as a servant of Christ. The passage in 1 Corinthians 1:6-9 assures that God is alongside believers, guiding them and providing everything they need for the spiritual adventure. Momentum builders are essential in sustaining progress. Purpose directs life by design rather than default. Resolving conflicts ensures healthy relationships and a thriving momentum. Applying truth moves beyond knowing to doing, manifesting faith in action. Lastly, expressing faith leads to joy and avoids spiritual depression. By embracing these momentum builders, believers can reignite their passion and build a vibrant faith journey.
In Luke 22:24-27, Jesus teaches his disciples about the heart of a servant. He contrasts the worldly desire for power and greatness with the humility and availability required to serve others. Drawing inspiration from the anointing of David in 1 Samuel 16, we learn that determination can either drive us towards greatness or become dangerous if fueled by pride. The heart of a servant is characterized by humility, recognizing our limitations and surrendering to God's will. Availability is essential, not based on popularity, but driven by purpose. To live out the heart of a servant, we must demonstrate sacrificial love, faithfulness, and patience in our daily lives. By adopting these virtues, we can truly follow the example set by Jesus, who came to serve and not to be served.
Luke 10:30-36 presents the parable of the Good Samaritan, where Jesus emphasizes the importance of living out the love of Christ. The story highlights the commitment required to demonstrate love to others. The passage reveals that true love for our neighbor is not merely an obligation or a matter of proximity, politics, or shared opinions. Instead, it is about responding with compassion and meeting the needs of others, even going the extra mile. The parable challenges individuals to examine their attitudes and actions towards those in need. It reminds believers that love for their neighbor should reflect God's accessibility and availability. Ultimately, displaying the love of God requires perceiving others with a godly perspective and being present for them. It goes beyond mere actions and calls for a genuine transformation of character and identity.
Luke 6:27-36 presents Jesus's radical teachings on love, urging his followers to love their enemies, do good to those who hate them, and bless those who curse them. Jesus emphasizes the importance of going beyond societal norms by turning the other cheek, giving generously, and treating others as they would like to be treated. This higher level of love demanded of Christians requires a deep understanding of the grace shown to them by Christ and the transformative change it can bring about. By embracing this love, believers can receive a great reward and become children of the Most High. Practical action steps include fervent prayer, humbling oneself, learning others' stories, forgiving frequently, and establishing healthy boundaries while seeking peace with others. Ultimately, the ability to forgive and love unconditionally distinguishes Christians and reflects the mercy of their Heavenly Father.
In Mark 12:13–17, the Pharisees and Herodians attempt to trap Jesus by questioning the payment of taxes to Caesar. Jesus responds by emphasizing the importance of balancing the claims of both the civil government and God. He teaches to give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God. This principle highlights the need to acknowledge the authority of human governments while recognizing that ultimate authority derives from God. It is essential to view governments as reflecting God's greater rule, without confusing them with the authority behind all authorities. Jesus advocates obeying governing authorities, urging against violent revolution and rebelling against established authorities. However, this does not imply unqualified sovereignty of governments over human life. As believers, we are called to submit to human authority, respecting and honoring them, while always prioritizing obedience to God. Applying the biblical witness, we are called to end blind patriotism, live as foreigners in exile, responsibly participate in the political process, and maintain the vibrant community of the Church as an alternative society.

Drawing from Matthew 11:12-17, we learn about the kingdom of heaven enduring violence and the indifference exhibited by the people. In today's society, despite having abundant resources such as access to the gospel, churches, and Christian media, there is a lack of responsibility in addressing the needs of the current generation. Judges 2:8-11 serves as a cautionary tale, showcasing the consequences of failing to impart knowledge and neglecting the next generation's spiritual growth. We are presented with three options: ignoring, complaining, or actively imparting what we have to offer. It is essential to recognize the urgency of our responsibility and take proactive steps to guide and nurture the present generation with God's truth.
The passage in Mark 8:34-38 underscores the significance of discipleship, where following Christ comes at the cost of one's life. While salvation is freely given, the commitment to Christ demands self-denial, carrying the cross, and obedience to His teachings. The temporary nature of the world is contrasted with the eternal value of the soul. The text discusses the futility of investing in temporal things and emphasizes the need to prioritize the knowledge of Christ. It presents four essential conditions for following Christ: desire, denial, death, and devotion. The passage also warns against losing one's life, squandering the soul through the pursuit of worldly success, and being ashamed of Christ. The action steps involve surrendering spontaneously and sacrificing strategically as part of the disciple's journey.
In this sermon, we explore the teachings of Matthew 7:3-5, where Jesus admonishes us to remove the log from our own eye before trying to remove the speck from our brother's eye. The sermon delves into the context of this concept, emphasizing the difference between judging and condemning others. We discuss the various types of people when it comes to dealing with judgment, highlighting the importance of following the Word of God and avoiding critical judgmentalism. We explore reasons why we should avoid critical judgmentalism, such as not knowing all the facts, motives, and the distinction between biblical issues and personal preferences. Additionally, we examine the danger of seeking revenge and the reality that we will all face God in judgment. Finally, we provide practical ways to see the plank in our own eye, including remembering, reviewing, and relaxing. We emphasize the need to have complete information before making conclusions and the importance of not letting judgment impede compassion towards others, as demonstrated by God's forgiveness in Christ.

This sermon focuses on the encounter between Jesus and the woman caught in adultery, as described in John 8:7-11. It highlights two important revelations: the dangers of a judgmental spirit and the forgiving heart of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The sermon begins by discussing the three abilities of Satan: to deceive, tempt, and accuse. It emphasizes the power of overcoming these abilities through the blood of the Lamb and the testimony of believers.
Moving on to the passage in John 8, the sermon explores the story of the woman caught in adultery and how the hypocritical Pharisees sought to judge and condemn her. Jesus, however, turns the tables on them by challenging them to examine their own hearts and sinfulness.
The sermon emphasizes the forgiving nature of Jesus, who pardons the woman and encourages her to leave her life of sin. It brings attention to the role of Jesus as our intercessor and Savior who saves us completely.
The sermon concludes with action points for the congregation. It urges them to confess their own tendencies toward Pharisaism, to choose a path of saving and forgiving instead of condemning, and to live in forgiveness so they can truly worship and serve Him.

God doesn’t always answer our prayers the way we think He should. The fulfillment of God’s promises might look different than we thought! But, know He is always faithful and works all things for the good of those who love Him and have been called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28) The Christmas story is proof of that.
