This week I am taking a week off of posting a new episode in attempt to show my respect and love for the Turkish and Syrian people as they recover from unthinkable damage done and lives lost by recent earth quakes.
Today we continue the important and illuminating conversation with Sia, my friend from Russia who has been brave enough to share about her experience with identity since the war and beyond.
In this part of the conversation, she shares her experiences meeting people from a range of backgrounds, notably Ukranians and other Russians, traveling in the Balkans and Central Asia (and our shared love for Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina!!), what she expects to happen to her Russian identity after the war, and cultural pressures that Russians have felt since long before the war.

Today I talk to my aunt Jodie Kammerer from The Design Twins about her experiences living abroad in France and Morocco both as a young student and later as an English Teacher. We specifically dive into the topic of what happens when pairs of cultures mix: the importance of respecting cultures and what that means, how they perceive or misinterpret each other, and what might make them mesh well together.
Today I talk to my friend Abe about personal identity and growth. He shares a Syrian proverb that immediately launches us into a profound and philosophical discussion about personal identity. We touch on topics including the fluidity of personality, life, and identity, the importance of honesty, having new experiences and helping others, the subjectivity of ‘good’, and filtering knowledge.
In the first episode I speak with my good friend Büşra who shares her experiences with her own identity as a young feminist, activist and aspiring comedian, specifically in the context of moving to a new and massive city in her country: Istanbul, Turkey. She shares her views on the roles that career and personal values should play in one’s identity and social and dating lives.
