If you're a self-publisher and have ever wondered what font you should use or what the trim size of your book should be or what is leading anyway, then this is the podcast for you.
Dive into Book Design aims to inform, educate, and empower self-publishers so that their books will be indistinguishable from books published by traditional publishers.
I'll talk about typefaces, why you should use some and why you should never use others. Trim sizes, how to figure out your margins, and lots of other good stuff including conventions and when you should break those conventions.
You can expect an episode every two weeks, so 2 or 3 episodes a month, but sometimes there might be more. And most episodes will be between 30 and 45 minutes.
So, if you've ever been curious about book design or want to take your books to the next level, this is the podcast for you.
Yet another Bonus episode. I've seen a lot of questions lately about hardcovers and just as many not great replies to those questions. Here are my thoughts on what indie publishers should be doing when they format a hardcover and answers to some of those questions.

Why trim size is an important consideration and also why you shouldn't pick a trim size just to keep your cost of printing down.
Incidentally, the trim size is usually the first thing you'll have to decide on when you design a book. It's also the one item that causes the most problems if it's changed after you've decided the other elements because they are all dependent on the trim size of your book. Yep, even the font size and the leading depend on the trim size.
