This is Episode Five and I talk about a useful tool to enrich your work immediately. I call it your VISTA. Let the world around you do the work. Let the room do the work. Let the reader do the work. Reverse the flow and be responsive to your surroundings. Outsource the energy so you can achieve ease and freedom in space.
Your VISTA is something you are aware of in the world around you, something you can see or hear. It is something that calls you, magnetizes you, beckons your attention. The light switch, your dog, your car, the local prison, another city, the moon. Your vista is anything outside the frame that helps make your performance more natural by helping you to achieve unselfconsciousness.

In this podcast episode MAKING MEMORIES I explore memory and imagination. How do we remember? How do we learn? And how do we use that to be creative?
When we tell stories, we often see images. Language is just a stream of sounds that we humans have evolved to describe and communicate the pictures that appear in our minds. Those images you see are derived from everything you have ever experienced, re-constituted into new combinations to create new universes in our consciousness, or as neuroscientist Anil Seth puts it: Our multisensory, panoramic, 3D, fully immersive inner movie

In this second episode, I invite you to travel with me from Japan across the Pacific to Samoa to find an acting tool that will enrich the way you speak dialogue — as well as your relationships with the other actors and with the camera!
Werner Heisenberg, the quantum physicist said There is no such thing as nothing. Even empty space can be thought of as foaming with energy.
Try stretching out your scene, using the exercise I call Accordion. Try playing your entire scene or monologue with no dialogue at all, using the exercise called the Silent Take. Play the whole thing in silence. All the actions, thoughts, impulses and exchanges are there but there are no words. When you are finished, now let the dialogue flow back in lie water, and play it again.
You will discover that the value of the scene is not carried only in the words. It is the glances, impulses, intuitions, responses and thoughts that make the scene a living thing. The words are lifted up and floated along by the tidal ebb and flow in the ocean of your behaviour.
You can continue listening over on the PAID site where you’ll find cool practical exercises to achieve freedom, connectivity and unselfconsciousness. Come on in! There is so much to explore!
