Love Notes From a Soul Coach: Recent Episodes

Mary Welch

A podcast from Soul Coach and author Mary Welch that picks up where most conversations about healing leave off or fall short.  What does it actually mean to "heal"?  How are we meant to "let go" of the stuff that feels super-glued to our hearts and psyches?  What's the real reason we sabotage ourselves? What does it take to transcend the wounds of childhood and honestly, authentically love and accept ourselves? If you like hanging out in the deep, existential end of the pool: this is your show!  A change in perspective can change your life. And this podcast was designed to do just that. We can share the journey together. It's less lonely that way.  Learn more about Mary's work: www.marywelch.com Follow along on IG: @marywelchofficial

In the mechanical sense of the word, to depress something means to hold it down. Today we're taking a different look at depression from this POV. What are we holding down when we feel depressed? Our hope? Our truth? Anger? And what would it be like to access those feelings and release them instead? Sadness is often associated as a cause of depression but today we're reconsidering this. What if sadness is more like the byproduct of an ongoing situation where the body isn't able to express what it needs to express or honor the deeper feelings asking to be felt? And what are the role of hormones in depression as well? This is a rich topic and we may do a part 2 at some point but let's at least get the ball rolling today! Or checking all the boxes of impossibly precious and special things one is expected to do during the summer?

If this resonates, this episode is for you!

I'm sharing some personal writing on the idea of the anti-fomo summer. A summer where going slow, having some solitude and letting the unfolding unfold are the only goals on the radar. And being totally ok with that.

We will never appease the ‘out of control’ fear by reassuring ourselves that we’re in control. Because that is a lie. And the body knows a lie when it hears one.  When confronted by how terrifyingly little control we actually have inside our lives, the best thing we can offer ourselves is compassion. And refuge in the present moment. The answer to being out of control is not control. It’s surrender. It’s an acknowledgement: 'Oh yes, I’m suffering right now because I’m working against my nature. I’m trying to do a job that is above my pay grade.' We're talking about all of this and more on today's show. Please tune in and give a listen! Lots of juicy insights to take away and have a deeper think on. Have you heard my FREE guided meditation for inner child healing yet?! We do not outgrow our childhood wounds like old shoes. We integrate them. They inform so much in our lives. It’s never as simple as: well, I am who I am. Today on the show we're taking a deeper look at all of this in the context of Sinead O'Connor's passing. Sinead wasn’t just an incredible talent or a trailblazer or a rebel or a feminist or an outspoken trouble maker. She was also an abused child. And that piece played a huge role in the way her path unfolded, as it does FOR ALL OF US who’ve grown from difficult childhoods. Spoiler Alert! I don't know the answer to this question! BUT - even if we don't necessarily know where our thoughts come from, we can still make it an aim of our healing to deal skillfully with them. This is what we're exploring on the podcast today - what are the different categories of negative thoughts and what are some strategies for managing them, given that we don't want to deny our feelings and we don't want to over identify with them either.  Tune in for a juicy exploration of a complex topic. Many of us have been experiencing what it's like to shift out of a kind of collective ignorance into deeper levels of awareness over the past few years. This is a process that can feel jarring and overwhelming at times - to be confronted by the enormity of what one does not know yet or fully comprehend. Both on the personal level and the sociopolitical one too. There is a lot of comfort to be found in one another sometimes, sharing this journey and the insights it brings, together.  This is the aim of today's show - to reminder you, if you've been feeling alone inside the vortex of all the sweeping changes of recent years, that you're not alone. Not by a long shot! I'm sharing a personal piece of writing I put together over the July 4th holiday and reflecting on what it means to live through a time of spells breaking, veils lifting, identities and understandings changing. All while holding the paradoxes of life thoughtfully. Not trying to be one thing, resolutely, or another. Learning to leave room for 'bothness'. Thanks for being here! And that's where the magic is :) Tune in to episode 21 of Love Notes From a Soul Coach for a deeper look at what it means to embrace chance and change and not just achieve our goals but achieve contentment beyond the benchmark moments; engaged with the totality of our lives.
