With district baseball starting this week, the Missouri Baseball Coaches Association released their final regular season Top 10 poll and the St. Louis area is once again well represented on the lists.

Fort Zumwalt West leads a group of five local squads in the Class 6 rankings as the Jaguars finish the regular season in the No. 3 slot with Eureka just behind them in the No. 5 spot. A pair of GAC rivals headline the Class 5 rankings as Washington and Fort Zumwalt South are fifth and sixth, respectively. John Burroughs will head into the Class 4 district tournament ranked second while their rival MICDS comes in at the No. 10 spot.

St. Joseph’s Academy and John Burroughs continue to sit on top of the Missouri Soccer Coaches Association Top 10 Power Rankings as the group released their last regular season rankings over the weekend. The Angels lead a group of six team local teams in Class 4 while the Bombers pace seven area squads in Class 3. Whitfield remains in the second slot in Class 2 with Villa Duchesne leading the locals in Class 1. District semifinals and finals will take place this week and many of these teams will be playing in many of those games.

St. Joseph’s Academy and John Burroughs are leading a huge group of St. Louis Metro teams in this week’s Missouri Soccer Coaches Association Power Rankings that were released last evening. The Angels moved back into the top slot in Class 4 as they join four other local squads in the top 10 while the Bombers remain the top team in Class 3 with seven other teams are listed in the top 10. Whitfield is in the NO. 2 spot in the Class 2 rankings while Villa Duchesne is the highest-ranked area team in Class 1.

The Missouri State Soccer Coaches Association released its first set of girls soccer rankings for this season and the metro area is well-represented in all four classes. St. Joseph’s Academy is in the top spot in Class 4 with four other teams ranked in the top 10. John Burroughs and Fort Zumwalt South are the top two teams in Class 3 while Westminster is slotted in the second spot in Class 2. The 2023 baseball season is in full swing and we are seeing many of the normal teams are off to outstanding starts. One of those teams will begin in the top slot of the HSSC/Scoops with Danny Mac Top 10 rankings as Fort Zumwalt West will start in the number one position. The Jaguars are one of the hottest teams in the state and will look to remain in the top slot after they head to Columbia this coming weekend.

Here is the complete list and just a reminder that we have all teams put into one ranking.

1. Fort Zumwalt West (13-1)
   • The Jaguars have won four straight and will play Howell North in a pair of conference games before heading to Rock Bridge for their tournament this weekend.
2. Howell (10-3)
   • The Vikings have won four of their last five games and will take on Troy in two games this week before heading to Columbia to play in a tournament out there.
3. Edwardsville (9-4)
   • The Tigers will look to snap a two-game losing skid this week as they will host De Smet and Vianney while playing Jackson at Busch Stadium Sunday evening.
4. Eureka (13-0)
   • The Wildcats are playing terrific baseball and are coming off a third-place finish at the Jays Baseball Invite this past weekend and they will open the week with a pair of games against Lindbergh starting Tuesday afternoon.
5. Mascoutah (10-2)
   • The Indians won nine straight contests before falling to Highland over the weekend and will get the rematch against Highland Wednesday afternoon.
6. Vianney (12-1)
   • The Golden Griffins have won three straight after suffering a loss to Howell and will take on Chaminade in two games this week before taking on Edwardsville at the end of the week.
7. Father McGivney (14-0)
   • The Griffins join Eureka as the only undefeated teams in the area and will take on Bunker Hill in two conference games this week.
8. John Burroughs (8-3)
   • The Bombers have won seven straight games after opening the season with a 1-3 mark and will take on conference rivals MICDS in a pair of games this week.
9. Columbia (7-1)
   • The Eagles are on a five-game winning streak and will take on Roxana Tuesday night to start a big week in which they will play five games.
10. Fort Zumwalt South (6-1-1)
    • The Bulldogs continue conference action this week after splitting a pair against Liberty last week and they will play Holt twice this week before taking on Howell Central in a doubleheader Saturday.

The streak in girls’ basketball continues as Incarnate Word ran its consecutive game-winning streak to 100 games this past weekend as the Red Knights will finish the season at the top of the High School Sports Caravan/ Scoops with Danny Mac Girls’ Basketball Top 10 rankings. IWA is joined in the final rankings of the year by five other state champions.

1. Incarnate Word (32-0)
2. The Red Knights won their 13th state title with a 57-30 victory over Rock Bridge this past Saturday. It was also their sixth consecutive state championship.
3. Vashon (27-5)
4. The Wolverines won their first state title in girls’ basketball with a 79-77 double-overtime victory over Benton. Vashon ended the season on a 10-game winning streak.
5. Lutheran St. Charles (27-5)
6. The Cougars claimed their second state title in school history with a 44-39 victory over Carl Junction. Lutheran St. Charles won nine of their final 10 games.
7. O’Fallon (34-4)
8. The Panthers won their first state girls’ basketball title with a 62-57 win over Lisle Benet Academy. O’Fallon won 20 of their final 21 games en route to their state crown.
9. John Burroughs (26-4)
10. The Bombers’ quest for a second consecutive state title fell short as they lost to Cape Notre Dame 46-35 in the Class 5 state quarterfinals. John Burroughs won 16 out of the last 18 games of the season.
11. Eureka (23-9)
12. The Wildcats placed fourth in the Class 6 tournament after dropping to games in Springfield, Mo., last weekend. Eureka won 12 of their 15 games to finish the season.
13. Okwaville (34-4)

The streak in girls’ basketball continues as Incarnate Word ran its consecutive game-winning streak to 100 games this past weekend as the Red Knights will finish the season at the top of the High School Sports Caravan/ Scoops with Danny Mac Girls’ Basketball Top 10 rankings. IWA is joined in the final rankings of the year by five other state champions.

1. Incarnate Word (32-0)

2. The Red Knights won their 13th state title with a 57-30 victory over Rock Bridge this past Saturday. It was also their sixth consecutive state championship.

3. Vashon (27-5)

4. The Wolverines won their first state title in girls’ basketball with a 79-77 double-overtime victory over Benton. Vashon ended the season on a 10-game winning streak.

5. Lutheran St. Charles (27-5)

6. The Cougars claimed their second state title in school history with a 44-39 victory over Carl Junction. Lutheran St. Charles won nine of their final 10 games.

7. O’Fallon (34-4)

8. The Panthers won their first state girls basketball title with a 62-57 win over Lisle Benet Academy. O’Fallon won 20 of their final 21 games en route to their state crown.

9. John Burroughs (26-4)

10. The Bombers’ quest for a second consecutive state title fell short as they lost to Cape Notre Dame 46-35 in the Class 5 state quarterfinals. John Burroughs won 16 out of the last 18 games of the season.

11. Eureka (23-9)

12. The Wildcats placed fourth in the Class 6 tournament after dropping to games in Springfield, Mo., last weekend. Eureka won 12 of their 15 games to finish the season.

13. Okwaville (34-4)

The 2022-23 basketball season has come to an end with many state trophies making their way back to the St. Louis metro area over the past month. It is time for the final High School Sports Caravan/Scoops with Danny Mac Top 10 rankings of the year and after claiming their third straight state championship, Vashon emerged as the top team in the area. Three teams that won state titles are in the rankings with others that placed in the state final four in both Missouri and Illinois.

1. Vashon (24-7)
   • The Wolverines claimed their 14th state title with a 64-37 victory over Park Hills Central. Vashon finished the season on a 17-game winning streak.
2. Cardinal Ritter (26-4)
   • The Lions won their 10th state championship with a 65-54 victory over Ladue in the Class 5 title contest. Cardinal Ritter finished the season by winning 25 of their final 26 games.
3. East St. Louis (26-9)
   • The Flyers finished the season with a third-place finish in the IHSA Class 3A tournament after defeating St. Ignatius out of Chicago in the third-place contest.
4. Ladue (26-6)
   • The Rams earned the runner-up spot in Class 5 as they fell to Cardinal Ritter 65-54 in the state championship game. Ladue won 13 of their last 15 games to end the season.
5. Gibault Catholic (32-7)
   • The Hawks claimed their first state boys’ basketball state title with a 65-45 victory over Scales Mound. The Hawks won 12 out of their final 13 games to wrap up the season.
6. Troy (26-6)
   • The Trojans claimed the Class 6 third-place trophy with a 40-32 win over Jackson this past weekend. Troy finished the season winning 11 of their final 13 games.
7. Principia (25-7)
   • The Panthers wrapped up an outstanding year as the Class 2 runner-up as they fell to Salisbury 55-46 in the title game. Principia won seven of their last eight contests to end the year.
8. Lutheran North (20-11)
   • The Crusaders went on an outstanding run at the end of the year to finish second in the state in Class 3 after falling to New Madrid Co. 56-46 in the final game. Lutheran North won five straight games in the state tournament before falling in the championship game.
9. O’Fallon (25-8)
   • The Panthers advanced to the Super-Sectional in the IHSA Class 4A tournament before falling to Moline 62-38. O’Fallon won eight of their last 10 games including victories over East St. Louis and Belleville East twice.
10. Triad (28-7)
    • The Knights fell to East St. Louis in the IHSA Class 3A tournament 53-38 and ended their season by winning 18 of their final 20 games.

The Illinois Basketball Coaches Association announced their All-State teams yesterday and many local metro-east players were named on the list. Class 1A State Champion Gibault placed a pair on the teams including Kaden Augustine who is on the first team while Macaleab Rich from East St. Louis earned first-team honors in Class 3A as he led the Flyers to a third-place finish this past weekend.

The final Missouri Basketball Coaches Association Poll was released with a lot of local teams being recognized as we head into district and sectional action.

On the boy’s side, Vashon is the only team to hold the top spot in the state as they are No. 1 in Class 4 while Cardinal Ritter paces a group of five area teams in Class 5.

Incarnate Word remains in the top slot in Class 6 on the girls’ side while Vashon is at the top of the Class 4 poll. John Burroughs still sits in the second position in Class 5 while Lutheran St. Charles is right behind them climbing to the sixth spot.

Two area boys’ basketball teams and a pair of girls’ teams still sit on top of the latest Missouri Basketball Coaches Association weekly top 10 poll with one week remaining in the regular season. Cardinal Ritter is in the top slot in Class 5 while Vashon continues to be in the No. 1 position in Class 4 on the boys’ side of the poll with many other boys’ teams being mentioned in the rankings.

On the girls’ side of the polls, Incarnate Word continues to be the top team in Class 6 while Vashon leads the way in Class 4 with John Burroughs remaining in the No. 2 position in the latest Class 5 poll.

Incarnate Word continues to stay on top of this week’s High School Sports Caravan Girls’ Basketball Top 10 Rankings after stretching their winning streak to 92 games this past week by winning a pair of games out in Kansas City. Father McGivney joins the list as they prepare for the IHSA playoffs.

   • The Red Knights won three games last week, including a 68-45 win over Kansas powerhouse Bishop Miege and will take on Nerinx Hall Tuesday evening.
2. John Burroughs (22-2)
   • The Bombers won the Queen of Hearts Tournament by defeating Pattonville 47-46 and will take on Lutheran St. Charles Tuesday evening.
3. Alton (29-1)
   • The Red Birds ended their regular season on a five-game winning streak and will open IHSA tournament action Tuesday evening against Granite City.
4. Vashon (18-5)
   • The Wolverines bounced back after falling to IWA with a pair of wins last week including a 64-54 win over Lutheran St. Charles and will play Gateway STEM Tuesday evening.
5. O’Fallon (27-4)
   • The Panthers finished the regular season on a seven-game winning streak and will start IHSA tournament action Tuesday against Belleville West.
6. Pattonville (13-5)
   • The Pirates won three straight games before falling to John Burroughs over the weekend in the title game of the Queen of Hearts tourney and will host Parkway South to open play this week.
7. Lutheran St. Charles (19-4)
   • The Cougars have won six of their last seven contests and will host John Burroughs Tuesday evening in a huge late-season matchup.
8. Eureka (17-7)
   • The Wildcats won six of their last seven games and will host Kirkwood Friday evening in their second to last game of the regular season.

The revolving door on top of the High School Sports Caravan Boys’ Basketball Top 10 Rankings continues as Belleville East moves back into the No. 1 position in the rankings while Vashon and Kirkwood continue to inch closer to the top spot. After continuing to impress, Troy joins this list as we get closer to the end of the regular season.

   • The Lancers have nine of their last 11 games and will head to cross-town rival Belleville West for a key SWC match-up Tuesday evening.

There was some shuffling in the middle of the rankings as Eureka moved closer to the top five.

   • The Red Birds bounced back after falling to O’Fallon with a pair of wins over Granite City and Belleville West and will take on Belleville East Tuesday evening.
4. Vashon (16-5)

There are changes at the top of the High School Sports Caravan Boys’ Basketball Top 10 rankings continue as East St. Louis assumes the top spot after winning seven consecutive games while Vashon continues to climb in the rankings after winning a pair of big-time matchups over the past week. There is plenty of movement and some new teams in the mix as Columbia, Troy, and Ladue all join the rankings this week.

1. East St. Louis (17-4)
   • The Flyers move into the top slot with a seven-game winning streak, including a 66-54 victory over CBC. They will take on Collinsville Friday evening at Lindenwood-Belleville.
2. Belleville East (21-3)
   • The Lancers have won six straight and will travel to Cahokia Tuesday evening for a key non-conference match-up.
3. Vashon (11-7)
   • The Wolverines have won four straight including a victory over nationally ranked Huntington Prep and Missouri Class 6 power Staley and will play Simeon out of Chicago Saturday at the Bank of O’Fallon Shootout.
4. Kirkwood (17-0)
   • The Pioneers remain undefeated after defeating De Smet 57-39 in the Circle 7 Shootout title game and will take on Pattonville Tuesday evening.

   • The Red Birds took home the Highland Tournament title with three wins last week including a 54-38 win over Okawville in the championship game and will take on East St. Louis Tuesday evening.

   • The Wolverines won a pair of games last week and will play Soldan Tuesday night.

There is a big shake-up in the High School Sports Caravan Boys’ Basketball Top 10 Rankings as O’Fallon makes a jump to the top spot after gaining some big wins over the past few weeks. Cardinal Ritter and Kirkwood also continue to climb in the rankings after garnering victories last week.

Alton continues to move up the rankings as they are also undefeated while a trio of teams join the bottom of the rankings for the first time this season.

   • The Pirates are currently on a four-game winning streak and will battle John Burroughs Tuesday evening at home.

   • The Wolverines will look to snap a two-game losing streak at Bartlett, Tenn., with a match-up against Huntsville, Ala., Friday evening.

The St. Louis metro area is once again represented well in the latest Missouri Basketball Coaches Association Top 10 poll released Tuesday evening.

Kirkwood joined the Class 6 list in the No. 10 slot as they continued to be undefeated on the year while CBC remains in the Class 6 top five. De Smet leads a group of five local teams ranked in the Class 5 rankings while Vashon is atop the Class 4 list. Principia is the lone area team ranked in Class 2 as they sit in the No. 2 slot.

On the girls’ side, Incarnate Word continues to sit at the top of the Class 6 poll while Vashon stays in the No. 1 slot in Class 4. John Burroughs remains in the second position in Class 5 while Lutheran South joins the Class 5 list in the No. 10 slot.

The holiday tournaments have come to an end, and we have a new team in the top slot of this week’s High School Sports Caravan Boys’ Basketball Top 10 rankings as Belleville East moves into the No. 1 slot after their third-place finish in the Collinsville Tournament.    • The Kahoks have won four of their last five games and will host Cahokia Tuesday evening to start play this week.

There was plenty of movement in the rankings with Alton making the biggest jump, landing in the third slot this week.

   • The Panthers saw their seven-game winning streak come to an end in a loss to Alton and will travel to Belleville East Tuesday night in SWC action.

   • The Wolverines have won six of their last seven and will play Park Hill South and Lee’s Summit West this weekend.
6. Pattonville (6-1)
   • The Pirates earned third place at the Viz tournament with a 51-48 win over Eureka and will travel to Parkway West next Thursday.

The boys’ basketball season is in full swing and there are many of the usual suspects at the top of the High School Sports Caravan Top 10 rankings for this week. We wanted to see how many of the top teams would fair at the beginning of the season before we started our rankings.

East St. Louis will start at the top of the list after a great start to the season while De Smet will start things in the second slot to start the season.

Here is the list of the HSSC Top 10 rankings. Just a reminder that our list is a complete list of teams in all classes.

1. East St. Louis (8-1)
   • The Flyers will start at the top of the list with a three-game winning streak including a 74-61 win over Jefferson City at the Norm Stewart Classic this past Saturday.
2. De Smet (5-1)
   • The Spartans rebounded after a loss to Tennessee power Fayette Ware with a 61-59 win over St. Louis University High. They will play next as the top seed in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at Maryville against Parkway North Monday, Dec. 27.
3. Belleville East (10-0)
   • The Lancers are off to a hot start with wins over Rock Bridge and a 3-0 start at the Alton pre-season tourney. They will host Granite City Thursday before playing in the Collinsville Tournament.
4. MICDS (6-2)
   • The Rams are the top seed in the Don Mauer Holiday Invite and will look to rebound after to falling to SLUH 58-56 this past Tuesday evening. They will open play in their classic against Fort Zumwalt West Friday.
5. CBC (5-2)
   • The Cadet won the Webster Groves Classic and then defeated Chaminade before falling to Kickapoo at the Norm Stewart Classic this past Saturday. CBC will head to Mater Dai to take on Metro-East Lutheran after the Christmas break.
6. Chaminade (3-1)
   • The Red Devils have won their last two games after falling to CBC in their MCC opener last Friday evening. They will take on San Antonio Central Catholic Wednesday evening.
7. Vashon (2-4)
   • The Wolverines have played a national schedule to open the season and are the top team in Class 4 to begin the year. Vashon will take on Butchel Monday, Dec. 26 to continue their year.

The Missouri Basketball Coaches Association released its second poll of the season this past Monday and there is plenty of St. Louis representation on the lists.

In the girls’ rankings, Incarnate Word is on top of the Class 6 poll after running their current winning streak to 73 games while Vashon is the top team in Class 4. Defending state champion John Burroughs is slotted in the third spot in Class 5.

In the boys’ poll, CBC is the highest-ranked team in Class 6 as the Cadets are in the eighth slot while De Smet is the top team in Class 5 with Vashon holding the No. 1 position in Class 4.

The streak continues as Incarnate Word picks up where it left off last season as the Red Knights will start the High School Sports Caravan girls’ basketball Top 10 rankings in the top slot to begin the season.    • The Bombers won a pair of games last week after falling to Helias last weekend and will start the Viz Tournament as the No. 2 seed. They open play in the tournament Saturday against Nerinx Hall.
3. O’Fallon (8-2)
   • The Panthers are one of the top teams on the Illinois side and defeated Eureka over the weekend. They open play this week against Tuesday night at Waterloo.
4. Eureka (4-3)
   • The Wildcats have played a tough schedule to start the season and will start play in the Viz Tourney as the No.3 seed. They will take on Notre Dame Tuesday before action at Viz starts Saturday against Parkway West.
5. Pattonville (3-0)
   • The Pirates have a veteran group returning from last season as they will start the Viz Tournament as the No. 4 seed and will start tourney play Saturday against Westminster.
6. Civic Memorial (8-2)
   • The Eagles are on a seven-game winning streak and are the No. 5 seed at the Viz Tournament. They will take on Waterloo Thursday before playing Edwardsville in an opening-round game at Viz.
7. Alton (8-1)
   • The Red Birds fell to Civic Memorial this past Saturday and will take on Belleville East Thursday evening.
8. Parkway South (5-0)
   • The Patriots won the Parkway season-opening round robin and will take on Clayton and Oakville before starting play at Viz Saturday against Whitfield.

   • The Bulldogs have won four out of their last five games and will travel to Triad Thursday to play their backyard rivals.

The football season is complete and for the first time ever, the St. Louis metro area has combined to bring home five state titles with our top team in the final rankings, East St. Louis, coming home with their 10th state Championship. The top five on the list did not chance as all of them won state championships.
