The Last Programming Language: Why Prompts Could Replace Code
Guest: Greg Tanaka — CEO & Founder, Prompt Driven
Writing code may no longer be the developer's primary job. Greg Tanaka argues that natural language is becoming the next — and perhaps final — programming language, drawing a parallel to semiconductor design's shift from hand-drawn schematics to Verilog: engineers didn't lose their craft, they moved up a level of abstraction. Tools like Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex are moving the developer's centre of gravity from authoring code to expressing intent and validating output.
And if code is cheap to generate, it should be cheap to discard — hence Greg's case for "regenerate, don't patch," treating source as a disposable artifact and the prompt as the durable specification. The conversation covers how Vibe Coding and Prompt-Driven Development elevate human intent, how regeneration reshapes technical debt, and what the Verilog transition suggests about the junior engineer's path in an AI-driven industry.
Greg Tanaka

The commercial space age just went public. SpaceX's $75 billion IPO isn't just a financial record — it's a signal that satellite infrastructure has moved from moonshot to mainstream, and that the companies positioned inside that supply chain are sitting on one of the decade's most durable growth stories. We break down how SpaceX got here: the failed launches, the near-bankruptcy, the engineering bets on reusability that the entire industry said couldn't work — and why it matters that they did.
Then we bring it home. Taiwan's role in the new space economy is larger than most people realize — and growing fast. From precision avionics components to a deepening legislative partnership with the United States, Taiwan is building toward a future where its expertise in high-reliability manufacturing becomes as essential to the space industry as it already is to the semiconductor world. If you've been watching Taiwan's tech story and wondering what comes after chips, this episode is your answer.

Welcome to SIT Podcast. Just a few hours ago, the eyes of the global tech world turned to the Taipei Music Center, where NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang delivered a GTC Taipei keynote that sent a jolt through the industry. As we speak, the doors of Computex 2026 have yet to officially open — but NVIDIA has already seized the moment, declaring the arrival of a "new era of PC."
In this episode, we take a close look at three defining trends:
1. NVIDIA moves into laptop silicon. After more than a decade away, NVIDIA returns to the consumer CPU arena with the N1 and N1X chips. According to supply-chain reports, the high-performance N1X is said to feature a 20-core Arm CPU and Blackwell-architecture graphics, with performance reportedly compared to the desktop-class RTX 5070. More significantly, this could mean the CUDA ecosystem running natively on a Windows-on-Arm laptop for the first time.
2. Taiwan — the center of global AI. In his keynote, Huang revealed that NVIDIA's annual spending in Taiwan has grown to roughly $100 billion. The company is also planning an overseas headquarters called "Constellation," reportedly slated to open around 2030 and house some 4,000 employees. From TSMC's manufacturing to Foxconn's assembly, Taiwan has become the heart of what Huang envisions as the AI factory producing computational tokens.
3. The rivals respond, and an industry test. Faced with NVIDIA's momentum, Intel has rolled out its Arc G3 chips built for handheld gaming devices, while Qualcomm defends its ground with a $300 entry-level Windows laptop platform. With DRAM and SSD costs climbing, Gartner projects PC prices will rise a notable 17% in 2026 — a real test of what every maker can deliver.

EP 3-39 | Beyond the Fab: What It Really Takes to Build a Semiconductor Ecosystem ft. Jillian Sun,TCIP Semiconductor Policy Researcher, xMEMS Labs
Building a fab is just the beginning — the real challenge is building an ecosystem. In this episode, Uly Su sits down with Jillian Sun, a former Taiwan capital market specialist turned Stanford GSB graduate and Berkeley researcher studying the US semiconductor industry under the CHIPS Act. Jillian walks through the full semiconductor supply chain — from IP licensing and EDA design tools to foundries, advanced packaging, and manufacturing equipment — giving a clear-eyed picture of just how many layers of specialized knowledge hold this industry together.
Drawing on Taiwan's Hsinchu Science Park as a reference point, Jillian explains why geographic density and deep cross-company collaboration are as important as capital investment — and why the US faces structural headwinds that go well beyond funding, from construction costs running roughly five times higher than Asia to permitting complexity and talent pipelines. Her view on where the US should focus: lean into its startup ecosystem, AI-accelerated EDA tooling, and the coming wave of edge AI and silicon photonics, rather than trying to replicate Asia's manufacturing base through sheer capital force.

In May 2026, OpenAI and Anthropic launched a combined $5.5 billion assault on the $375 billion enterprise consulting market. OpenAI’s $4 billion "DeployCo" targets Fortune-scale giants by directly embedding engineers into client teams, while Anthropic’s $1.5 billion venture focuses on mid-sized companies. Both tech giants realize that great AI models aren't enough—the real competitive advantage and money lie in actual implementation. They are no longer just building models, but transforming into a new kind of consulting firm to directly compete with heavyweights like McKinsey and Accenture.

NVIDIA GTC has outgrown the label of "tech conference" — it's now the annual convergence point of the entire AI ecosystem, where chips, software, robotics, and autonomous systems share the same floor, with an energy so dense that finding a parking spot takes two hours. In this episode, Silicon Valley-based veteran tech journalist and consultant Michelle Cheng joins host Uly fresh from GTC to give us a firsthand read on what the conference signals for the industry ahead.
Michelle traces the deep ties between Jensen Huang and TSMC founder Morris Chang, and how Jensen's visits to Taiwan consistently bring the entire AI supply chain together at what the media has dubbed the "trillion-dollar banquet." Drawing on her experience covering Silicon Valley through the optical networking era, she maps today's AI infrastructure boom against the longer arc of industry cycles — demand never disappears, it just takes time to mature. She captures the mood of GTC with a drink called "Innovation Cocktail" she picked up at an after party: a blend of excitement and anticipation that defines where Silicon Valley stands right now.
The episode closes on Jensen's own framing from the keynote — intelligence is becoming infrastructure — and Michelle's clear-eyed take: the window into the AI ecosystem is open, and the companies that find their position early tend to benefit the most when the cycle matures.

Dario Amodei, the former head of R&D at OpenAI, left the company in 2021 due to growing concerns over the rapid commercialization and safety of AI technology. Alongside his sister, Daniela Amodei, he co-founded Anthropic, a firm now valued at $183 billion. With the exceptional performance of its Claude models—particularly in coding—Anthropic has emerged as OpenAI's most formidable rival.
Amodei frequently sounds the alarm on the risks of advanced AI, describing powerful models as "a sovereign brain in a data center." He warns that there is a non-negligible risk of catastrophic outcomes and predicts that AI could replace 50% of entry-level white-collar jobs within five years. He also emphasizes that without proper oversight, AI could be weaponized by bad actors to develop biological weapons, posing a severe threat to national security.
This episode focuses on Dario Amodei and the AI ethical frameworks he champions at Anthropic, which enable models to self-supervise based on core principles. Amodei believes humanity is currently in a "technological adolescence" that will determine our survival. He maintains that only through transparent regulatory mechanisms can we ensure AI leads us toward a prosperous future rather than total destruction.

This episode explores the vision of Demis Hassabis, CEO of Google DeepMind and recipient of the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Hassabis argues that 2026 marks a pivotal turning point in human history, as we enter what he describes as an “AI Renaissance”—an era whose impact could be ten times greater than the Industrial Revolution, unfolding at ten times the speed.
He predicts that Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) could be achieved before 2030, while cautioning that today’s AI systems remain in a state of “jagged intelligence,” still lacking robust reasoning and long-term planning capabilities. As the industry enters a phase of consolidation, Hassabis is focused on transforming AI into a scientific engine. Through breakthroughs such as AlphaFold and initiatives like Isomorphic Labs, he aims to reshape drug discovery, while collaborations with the U.S. Department of Energy—such as the “Genesis Project”—seek to accelerate progress in energy innovation.
At the core of his vision is the concept of “Radical Abundance.” As AI drives the marginal cost of healthcare and energy toward near zero, society may begin to transition into a post-scarcity era. To navigate this shift, Hassabis proposes new social mechanisms, including a “Global Abundance Dividend,” and emphasizes that AI governance must extend beyond technologists, requiring international cooperation to ensure these technologies benefit all of humanity.

VC Talks: Shao-Yu Jheng (Harvard) | Why Reindustrialization Won't Work Without Global Supply Networks
As reshoring and industrial policy return to the center of U.S. economic strategy, supply chains are increasingly framed as matters of national security and sovereignty. But history tells a more complicated story. In this episode of VC Talks, Uly revisits Left for Dead, a 1997 study on the revival of U.S. electronics, to question whether bringing manufacturing back home was ever the true driver of America’s industrial recovery.
Joined by Shao-Yu Jheng, a postdoctoral researcher in Economics at Harvard University, the conversation reframes the 1980s–90s comeback as a story of network leadership rather than national production. The episode examines why the Japanese manufacturing model ran into structural limits, how Taiwan and overseas Chinese (OC) production networks enabled coordination at scale, and why control over global supply networks—rather than factory location alone—proved decisive. Looking ahead, the discussion challenges today’s reshoring debate by asking what industrial policy can realistically change, and where its influence fundamentally ends.

Robotics and AI are becoming core foundational capabilities of the physical economy. As AI extends from cloud-based models into hospitals, logistics centers, and a wide range of service environments, robots increasingly carry functions of perception, reasoning, and decision-making, directly translating into measurable gains in productivity, system reliability, and operational safety. Together, they are emerging as critical infrastructure supporting the operation of modern society.
Taiwan has established “Robotics + AI” as a key direction in its future industrial布局, responding to the long-term challenge of a highly concentrated industrial structure. While semiconductors remain a central pillar, their capital-intensive nature and limited spillover effects mean that the next phase of growth must come from a new industrial curve. The National Development Council has therefore been tasked with identifying scalable, repeatable, and extensible industry models—channeling Taiwan’s deep strengths in hardware, engineering, and systems integration into professional, service-oriented robotics, with priority deployment in healthcare, long-term care, logistics, and facility management where demand is clear.
Along this trajectory, the government’s role is evolving into that of an industry accelerator. By integrating R&D outputs and supporting the formation of new robotics companies, it is laying the groundwork for private capital and startups to enter, scale, and participate sustainably. This episode approaches the topic through the lens of industrial structure and policy logic, explaining why Taiwan has positioned Robotics + AI at the core of its next industrial phase, and how this strategy may shape the country’s economic future.

According to estimates from the United Nations, 500 million people worldwide receive a diabetes diagnosis every five seconds, and by 2030, there will be an estimated 643 million cases. Ed Deng noticed how time-consuming and error-prone it was for family members to record their blood sugar levels on a regular basis in order to effectively manage diabetes, particularly while interacting with carers or healthcare institutions. Co-founding Health2Sync in 2013, he started creating digital healthcare solutions. Patients can record their daily health data with the Health2Sync app by integrating it with various devices and measurements, such as blood pressure, weight scales, wireless insulin pens, and blood sugar monitors. Healthcare providers may easily and reliably examine this data on the Patient Management Platform, which serves as a foundation for appropriate medicine prescriptions and food recommendations.
Worldwide, there are over 1.2 million registered users of the Health2Sync app. Health2Sync has partnered with global leaders in diabetes treatment, including Abbott, Sanofi, Novo Nordisk, and AstraZeneca. The company's global reach encompasses more than 600 healthcare facilities and associated institutions. In this episode we are honored to have Ed Deng, Co-Founder and CEO of Health2Sync, join us on this episode to discuss his philosophy and the motivational tales that have contributed to Health2Sync's success.
In this episode of Startup Island Taiwan Podcast, you will find out:
☛ Since monitoring diabetes can be so difficult, Ed was inspired to develop a technological solution
☛ How did Ed acquire his initial users?
☛ People in healthcare industry should establish partnership in order to implement the programme and gather real-world information
☛ Ed believes there will be plenty of innovation and opportunity in the HealthTech market

In the very precise aerospace sector, confidence is essential. NASA intends to deploy several "Data Cubes" on the moon in September of 2023. These cubes will enable astronauts in the future to "check in'' and use blockchain technology to confirm their existence on the moon. The information on the blockchain can be used to validate any scepticism or conspiracy ideas. Not only NASA, but even Slovakian blockchain startup 3IPK sees blockchain's promise in "space." They store extremely private information, such as satellite imaging data and supply chain information, using blockchain technology. This approach has attracted interest from the European Space Agency, Airbus, and even the Taiwan Space Agency.
Space data can facilitate accurate transactions, just like cryptocurrencies do! The aerospace sector, where mistakes are not tolerated, has greatly benefited from 3IPK's increased reliability! In this episode, Ashley Reeves, Head of Taiwan & Asia Pacific at 3IPK, and co-founder Juraj Zamecnik talk about their shared goal, the history of their company, and how 3IPK came to work with the Taiwan Space Agency.
In this episode of Startup Island Taiwan Podcast, you will find out:
☛ Juraj's dedication to the aerospace sector is not by happenstance.
☛ The rationale behind establishing a firm in Taiwan
☛ Some of the supply chain management difficulties that businesses in this industry confront
☛ In what ways do blockchain and other technologies ensure security, legitimacy, and confidence?
☛ In what direction do Ashley and Juraj see 3IPK heading?

Global digital technology is booming, particularly in the midst of the epidemic, when a lot of activities have moved fully online and are flooding the internet with a tonne of data and information. Acknowledging the potential for decentralisation and immutability of blockchain technology to improve certificate administration in a number of industries, Jeff established Turing Space in 2018 with the goal of revolutionising the digital certification space. With the help of Turing Certs, a blockchain-based certificate system, issuers can permanently keep certificate data on the network, increasing the legitimacy and traceability of their certificates. Owners of certificates can utilise management tools to ensure the integrity and authenticity of their certificates.
As we enter a new era of technology in the twenty-first century, how can individuals make sense of the abundance of information at their disposal? We are delighted to have Jeff Hu, the CEO and founder of Turing Certs, discuss his vision, the backstory of the business, and how Turing Certs got to where it is today in this episode. With its stablecoin USDC continuing to rank in the top 3 cryptocurrencies in terms of trading volume, Circle has been a significant player in the cryptocurrency space. As USDC is more transparent and complies with regulations than USDT, some investors believe it to be a safer stablecoin. Its real-time reserve reports and routine audits give users confidence that the token is supported by real assets. Circle acquired Taiwanese startup Cybavo in 2022 with the goal of accelerating the adoption of Web3 and USDC apps and fully integrating the technology into their main product offerings. Additionally, Circle has increased its market share in the Philippines by working with Coins.ph.

Semiconductors are the backbone of modern technology, from smartphones to electric vehicles. Taiwan dominates the global semiconductor market, manufacturing over 60% of all semiconductors worldwide and a staggering 90% of the most advanced ones. The country's leading semiconductor manufacturer, TSMC, has been the sole producer of the most advanced semiconductors, which have exclusively been made in Taiwan. ‘’To understand semiconductors, the world must understand Taiwan and TSMC’’ said Chris Miller, the author of “Chip War: The Fight for the World's Most Critical Technology” which is The Financial Times Business Book of the Year.
In this episode, Miller details how the chip industry now determines both the structure of the global economy and the balance of geopolitical power. He provided us with his vision for the future of the Taiwanese chip industry, emphasising that corporate culture actually decides the success of Taiwan’s cutting-edge technology of AI chips. He also shared his journey of how he had the opportunity to sit down and have a conversation with the legendary Morris Chang. Kneron has emerged as a leading provider of edge AI solutions, despite the challenges posed by declining financial markets, it raises 48 million for artificial intelligence tech in 2022. However, the origins of the company are somewhat serendipitous. Albert Liu, co-founder of Kneron, shared the story of how he inadvertently persuaded a former colleague to resign from his job in Korea, move to Santiago, and join a friend's startup project that never came to fruition. ‘’I brought him to my friend and my friend said, I did not get the funding. Why do you quit your job!’’ Albert laughed and recalled the memory. After half a year, his former colleague still wearing underwear crashing on the sofa, Albert decided to make a deal with him. Albert quit his job in Qualcomm and founded a company with him, having the thought that once their project fails, both of them can go back to the big company and back to their normal life again. Unexpectedly, a 3D human intelligence solution that shocked the industry was launched in the end.
Kneron offers innovative edge AI solutions by moving part of the AI computing power from the cloud to edge devices, which makes it different from traditional cloud-based AI solution providers. It has signed up two Taiwan-based companies, Foxconn and Winbond, as strategic investors and recently acquired OTUS to accelerate autonomous vehicle applications. Join this episode with Albert Liu sharing the entrepreneurial process and philosophy, revealing the inspiring stories behind the success of Kneron.
In this episode of Startup Island Taiwan Podcast, you will find out:

Warren Buffett announced last week that he bought TSMC Stock - American Depositary Receipts (ADR), which is worth more than 4.1 billion dollars. This is a rare major investment in the technology sector by Buffett's conglomerate. How is TSMC favored by international investors?
Be Everyone's Foundry, that is the main strategy of TSMC. In the 1980s, Taiwanese government planned to cultivate the semiconductor industry for Taiwan's economic development. Then, TSMC was founded.
TSMC's achievement lies in changing the global semiconductor division of labor. Before Morris Chang, wafer foundry was considered an impossible task since customers were afraid of leaking or plagiarizing chip designs, so they were reluctant to hand over chips to foundries for manufacturing. However, TSMC has persuaded a huge number of companies with its high-standard integrity management. TSMC has now become the largest semiconductor fabrication plant in the world.
Outline :
📀 Beginning: reasons behind TSMC’s foundation

With the advent of the global space age, countries are competing with each other for a foothold in outer space. What role does Taiwan play in this space competition?
Among the 105 low earth orbit satellites launched by Space X in January 2022, one of them is a " spherical-motor-based " microsatellite developed by Taiwanese space startup Tensor Technology. The 22-year-old founder of Tensor Technology, Thomas Yen and his entrepreneurial partners have built the world's one and only spherical motor for commercial use. Through their satellite attitude control system, it saves 2/3 of the space and volume of the satellite, and nearly save one hundred thousand dollars cost in one launch.
Yen also mentions that the advantages of developing the space industry in Taiwan are that the electronics industry is well-founded, the OEM supply chain is complete and intensive, and components can be produced quickly. For example, after a product is designed in Taipei, it can be produced in the Hsinchu Science Industrial Park. The two places are close to each other so that they can often communicate and coordinate with manufacturers in person to ensure the quality of product.
Outline :
🚀What is Tensor’s main mission and idea?
🚀What kind of product does Tensor provide?
🚀Why satellite minimization matters?
🚀What are the advantages of Taiwan’s supply chain?
🚀The future of space industry

What makes foreigners want to settle or even naturalise in Taiwan? What’s more, they make a gigantic contribution to Taiwanese cryptocurrency ecosystem.
“I’m convinced that the future of finance is cryptocurrency, in one form or another, and you can see that it has already become a reality,” says Leo Seewald, the former president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan (AmCham Taiwan) and the former country head of BlackRock in Taiwan. Naturalized in Taiwan in 2020, Seewald is the director of MaiCoin, Taiwan’s largest legal digital asset trading platform. Maicoin is expected to launch a new stablecoin,Taiwan Dollar Coin (TWDC), later on this year. TWDC is a stablecoin with a 1:1 exchange rate with New Taiwan dollar, with the equivalent amount of Taiwan dollar reserved, which can be exchanged by users at any time, in order to eliminate the concerns of the Financial Supervisory Commission. The exchanged TWD is like the banknotes or coins we use every day, which are guaranteed by the central bank and will not affect the currency issuance in the real world.
Meanwhile, we invited Akio Tanaka, co-founder and partner at Headline Asia and currently settled in Taiwan. Tanaka has experiences in Japanese stablecoin JPYC and he shares the process during the development of JPYC. So, what are the lessons that TWDC might learn from JPYC? What is the prospect of cryptocurrency in Taiwan or even in Asia in the next decade? Join us to find out!
Outline :
🔗Why does cryptocurrency have yet to gain much of a foothold in Taiwan?
🔗A message for those who hesitate and suspect to invest in cryptocurrency due to Terra’s Luna stablecoin case.
🔗What are the connections between stablecoin, cryptocurrency and e-payment platforms?
🔗How can TWDC encourage saving and investing habits among young Taiwanese?
🔗The prospects of cryptocurrency in Taiwan and in Asia.

As the popularity of cryptocurrencies has increased, many companies have begun to invest in virtual currency. However, this new technology has also created new problems, that is, how to manage the "private key", which symbolizes the control of funds since once the private key is stolen or lost, the digital assets in your account will never be recoverable or cashed.
Taiwanese startup Cybavo stands out in this battle of information security. Its products build a powerful digital asset management system to protect digital assets, ensure regulatory compliance, and enhance operational efficiency. The products of Cybavo are favored by the U.S. fintech unicorn Circle, which acquired Cybavo in June this year.
The partnership between CYBAVO and Circle will achieve the vision of bringing blockchain infrastructure, digital assets and digital currencies to the masses and mainstreaming Web 3.

The emergence of blockchain, cryptocurrencies, and Bitcoin has influenced intensively the global financial situation. The extension of the blockchain, Web3, builds the foundation for the financial provision of the next generation, which is impossible to achieve with Web 1 and Web 2.
Taiwan's neo fintech Web3 startup XREX builds a bridge between cross-border, virtual and reality financial world with its blockchain technology. They successfully obtained a Money Services Business (MSB) license from the United States Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) this year, laying a foundation in the global financial market. XREX has obtained 8 international licenses and registrations, including: United States, Canada, Lithuania, Estonia and Taiwan. They’re currently in the process of applying for licenses in Singapore and the United Arab Emirates.
In addition to international licenses and registrations, XREX also obtained ISO/IEC 27001 information security certification in August this year, which is a set of international standards jointly issued by the International Standards Organization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) in order to verify whether the organization's information security management system (ISMS) has a complete risk assessment and management plan. XREX passed all 114 application standards without any error and spent less time than others to obtain this certification.
In this episode, we invited the Co-founder & CEO to XREX, Wayne Huang, to talk about blockchain, Web3 and his prospect toward neo fintech.
Outline :
✅What is Web 3 ? What is the relation between Web 2 and Web 3 ?
✅Does Web 3 have a certain field to develop in the near future ?
✅Any suggestions for young engineers and entrepreneur ?
✅What are the differences between working in the Bay Area and in Taiwan ?
✅In what way Taiwan can attract the oversea people to start a business here ?

Post-quantum cryptography may seem bewildered, but if we take a look at cryptography itself first, it is actually the science that builds the foundation of our information world nowadays. Ranging from communication and entertainment, to the protection of state secrets, and even the highly active blockchain technology. They all rely on cryptography as the core for subsequent development.
As for post-quantum cryptography, it is a set of theories about how to keep data transmission safe under the threat of quantum computers. With the rapid development of quantum computers, how to formulate post-quantum cryptography standards has also become an important goal of information security experts.
BTQ, a startup that builds post-quantum infrastructure to enable the next generation of energy-efficient blockchain networks. This September, ITRI (Industrial Technology Research Institute) announced the collaboration with BTQ to develop the next-generation semiconductor technology for post-quantum cryptography.
In this episode of Startup Island Taiwan, we invite the Chief Scientific Officer of BTQ, Chen-Mou Cheng as our guest to talk freely about quantum computing and post-quantum cryptography.
Outline :
🔓Background : the story of Chen-Mou Cheng, the Chief Scientific Officer of BTQ
🔓Decryption : the high-level explanation of quantum computing and post-quantum cryptography
🔓Development : the impact and the importance of NIST’s (National Institute of Standards and Technology, an agency under the U.S. Department of Commerce) announcement of standardised PQC algorithms
🔓Collaboration : the partnership with ITRI (Industrial Technology Research Institute)
🔓Connection : the advantage of PQC adoption in Taiwan
Host & Guest: Jeremy <> Chen-Mou
