You’re the jury as attorney and apologist Abdu Murray puts the claims for and objections against the Christian to courtroom-level scrutiny.
In this episode of All Rise, Abdu Murray and Derek Caldwell sit down with Wikipedia co-founder Larry Sanger to discuss his journey from skepticism back to Christianity.
Larry shares how hard questions, philosophy, fatherhood, and the cumulative case for Christianity led him to faith—and why that same pursuit of truth shaped his original vision for Wikipedia. The conversation also explores what he believes went wrong with the platform, why neutrality matters, and the story behind his recent ban from the site he helped create.

In this episode of All Rise, Abdu Murray and Derek Caldwell sit down with Scott Symington to discuss one of the strangest and most culturally explosive topics of our time: UFOs, aliens, and the growing belief that disclosure could challenge Christianity itself.
Are UFOs evidence of extraterrestrial life? Do aliens undermine the Bible? And what should Christians make of the increasing number of reports surrounding unexplained aerial phenomena?
The conversation explores the scientific probability of intelligent alien life, the physical challenges of interstellar travel, the history of UFO encounters, and why some researchers have begun considering an interdimensional—not extraterrestrial—explanation for the phenomenon.

In this episode of All Rise, Abdu Murray and Derek Caldwell sit down with Dr. Carrie Gress to discuss one of the most influential—and controversial—forces in modern culture: feminism.
Drawing from her book Something Wicked: Why Feminism Can't Be Fused with Christianity, Carrie explores the historical roots of feminism, its vision of men and women, and why she believes its promises have ultimately left many people more isolated, confused, and unhappy.
The conversation also touches on motherhood, the sexual revolution, identity, the surprising relationship between feminism and the occult, and why Christianity historically offered a radically different vision for women.
Carrie Gress, Ph.D., is a scholar at the Institute for Human Ecology at Catholic University of America. She is the founder and editor at the online women's magazine TheologyofHome.com and the author of ten books, including the Theology of Home series, The Anti-Mary Exposed, and The End of Woman: How Smashing the Patriarchy Has Destroyed Us. In this episode of All Rise with Abdu Murray, Abdu takes live questions from students at Laurentian University in Sudbury, ON, Canada—and nothing is off the table.
From artificial intelligence and transhumanism to suffering, free will, and faith, students wrestle honestly with some of the most challenging questions facing Christianity today. Why does human suffering feel so unfair? Does belief in miracles require abandoning reason? How can Jesus' death 2,000 years ago possibly matter now?
Abdu also addresses difficult and often controversial topics—including polygamy in the Bible, LGBTQ inclusion, the uniqueness of Jesus among world religions, and whether evil and tragedy undermine belief in God. Along the way, we explore how faith, reason, and lived experience intersect in a world shaped by technology, doubt, and deep moral questions.

In this episode of All Rise, Abdu Murray and Derek Caldwell sit down with Sabrina Joy Stevens to explore what happens when the systems designed to combat "disinformation" begin to lose their grip on truth.
As a former insider in the anti-disinformation world, Sabrina shares her journey from activist to critic—and why the narrative she once defended eventually stopped adding up. Along the way, we examine the rise of institutional groupthink, the pressure to conform, and what it means to pursue truth when it comes at a personal cost.

In this episode of All Rise, Abdu Murray and Derek Caldwell confront one of the most difficult questions about hell: is it fair?
If we didn't ask to be born—and if we enter a fallen world where sin is inevitable—how can eternal judgment be just? Rather than repeating familiar answers, we examine the tension between biblical texts that seem to support everything from "double predestination" to "universalism" and everything in between to help make sense of the biblical portrayal of hope.

In this episode of All Rise, Abdu Murray and Derek Caldwell respond to one of the most painful and emotionally charged questions we've received from viewers: "Why do people die young?"
This question isn't theoretical. It's asked in hospital rooms, at gravesides, and in the grieving moments after sudden loss. It presses directly on the goodness of God, the reality of suffering, and whether faith can survive tragedy.
In today's episode, we explore:
Rather than offering clichés or quick fixes, we slow down and take the question seriously—philosophically, theologically, and humanly—because some questions deserve more than platitudes.

This special Christmas episode of All Rise with Abdu Murray features a live presentation Abdu delivered at Rochester Christian University. In this episode, Abdu Murray and Derek Caldwell address two important questions submitted by viewers—one about the origins of Christian belief, and one about sharing the Christian faith with people from different backgrounds.
"Is Jesus just a copy of Zoroaster?" We examine the popular claim that Christianity borrowed its key ideas from ancient Zoroastrianism. Did concepts like judgment, resurrection, or a final savior come from Persian religion? We walk through what the historical evidence actually shows and let the scholars speak.
"How should we engage people who are more difficult to reach, such as Jews, Muslims, or others who approach faith differently?" We talk about how to have meaningful conversations with people from various worldviews, and how to help your children prepare for the beliefs they will encounter.

In this new series, Abdu Murray and Derek Caldwell tackle your toughest—and sometimes bluntest—questions about Christianity, Islam, theology, philosophy, and culture.
In today's episode, we address two big viewer questions:
"What does it mean when Christians say evil is a 'negation of the good'? Doesn't that minimize real evil?" We unpack the classical Christian understanding of evil—not as something trivial or imaginary, but as a profound distortion of the good—and explain why this view actually amplifies the seriousness of evil rather than diminishing it.
"You said most Muslims don't read the Qur'an. That's wrong! Over 3 million Muslims have memorized it, and its early transmission proves perfect preservation!" We respond to this challenge by clarifying what we meant, examining the difference between recitation and comprehension, and discussing what the historical data about the Qur'an's compilation and textual variants really shows.

In this episode of All Rise, we are bringing you a wide-ranging dialogue between Abdu Murray (a former Muslim who is now a Christian) and Fred Stella (a former Catholic who is now Hindu) on life’s deepest questions. How did the universe come to be? Why is there evil and suffering? What happens after death—and what role do reincarnation and karma play?
Together, in front of a packed audience at Compass Church in Naperville, Illinois, they engage candidly on the Hindu and Christian views of creation, the problem of suffering, the caste system, and the hope of the afterlife. With honesty and respect, this conversation highlights where these two great worldviews differ, but also where they challenge us to think more deeply about truth, justice, and ultimate meaning.
Whether you come from a Hindu background, a Christian background, or are simply seeking answers to life’s biggest questions, this dialogue will give you fresh insight into how faith traditions wrestle with what it means to be human.
This event also includes audience Q&A.
Fred Stella is ordained as an Outreach Minister by his local Hindu temple. He also serves as a member of the National Leadership Council of the Hindu American Foundation, an advocacy group based in Washington, DC, and is an in-demand voice actor.

In this episode of All Rise, Kyla Gillespie joins us to explore the deeper theological debates surrounding gender and Scripture. Some voices argue that the Bible supports transgender identities—but what do those arguments really say? And how should we think about them in light of creation, redemption, and identity in Christ?
With clarity and compassion, Kyla and our hosts explore what Scripture really teaches about gender, creation, and identity in Christ. Far from being a message of exclusion, the Bible offers a vision of wholeness, truth, and redemption that speaks to every human heart.
Whether you’re wrestling with questions yourself or engaging with friends who are, this conversation will help you see both the strength of the biblical witness and the hope it offers.

What happens when the identity you built your life around suddenly collapses—and Christ steps in to rebuild it?
Kyla Gillespie is a survivor. In this episode of All Rise, we sit down with Kyla, a woman who once identified as transgender but ultimately found truth, freedom, and a new identity in Jesus Christ.
Kyla shares her raw and powerful story, not as a political argument, but as a deeply personal journey through pain, searching, and redemption. With honesty and grace, she unpacks what drew her into a false identity, what shattered her illusions, and how God patiently led her back to the truth of who she really is.
Her story challenges cultural assumptions around gender, identity, and authenticity. And even more so, it points to the healing love of Christ that meets us when we’ve come to the end of ourselves.

Was the Scopes “Monkey Trial” ever really about science—or was it a staged showdown with a hidden agenda?
In this episode of All Rise, we talk to Dr. Rick Townsend, a historian of ideas whose groundbreaking dissertation uncovers the real story behind one of the most famous courtroom dramas in American history: the 1925 Scopes Trial.
For a century, we’ve been told it was the moment science defeated religion. But what if the real battle wasn’t evolution vs. creation—but parental rights vs. elite control? Dr. Townsend walks us through how the trial was orchestrated, how William Jennings Bryan became a media caricature, and how a false narrative took root that still shapes educational debates today.
We also explore Mahmoud v. Taylor, a 2025 Supreme Court decision that echoes the same themes 100 years later. Are we still fighting the same battle—just with different labels?
Whether you're a believer, skeptic, or just someone tired of being told a one-sided version of history, this episode will change the way you think about the “Monkey Trial”—and what’s really at stake in the classroom.

Was "junk DNA" ever really junk—or did science just need to catch up with design?
In this episode of All Rise, we talk to Dr. Fazale Rana (biochemist and President & CEO at Reasons to Believe) to dive into one of the most groundbreaking scientific reversals in recent history: the 2024 Nobel Prize awarded for discoveries showing that so-called “junk DNA” is functional and essential.
For decades, large portions of the human genome were written off as useless leftovers of evolution. But was that ever good science—or just bad theology in disguise? Fuz Rana walks us through the history of this idea, why many Christian scientists and intelligent design theorists questioned it from the beginning, and how new discoveries are forcing a complete rethinking of what our DNA says about purpose, design, and even God.
Is this the death of the “junk DNA” myth? What does it mean for Darwinian evolution? And how should Christians respond to this scientific turning point?
Whether you’re a skeptic, a believer, or just curious about what your genes are really saying, this conversation will give you a fresh look at the intersection of science, faith, and design.

Is the Qur’an truly the perfectly preserved word of God—or is its history more complicated than many believe?
In this episode of All Rise, Abdu Murray and Qur'an scholar Andy Bannister explore the turbulent early history of the Qur’an: from its oral roots to the compilation controversies that many Muslims have never been told about. Was there really just one Qur’an from the beginning? Did early Muslim leaders know what the Qur’an was? And what can the evidence of oral storytelling, variant versions, and missing passages tell us about how the Qur’an came to be?
With wit, respect, and deep scholarship, Abdu and Andy cut through the myths to explore what Islamic, historical, and scholarly sources actually say about the formation of Islam’s central text.
Whether you're a Muslim, a Christian, or just curious about the Qur’an’s origins, this conversation offers thoughtful insights that challenge assumptions and invite further investigation.

Muslims love Jesus—but do they know who He really is?
In this episode of All Rise, Abdu Murray explores the Islamic view of Jesus, known to Muslims as "Isa." What does the Qur’an say about Him? Is He just a prophet, or something more? And how do Islamic beliefs about Jesus at the end of time—His return, His role in judgment—compare with what the Bible reveals?
Abdu draws from his background as a former Muslim and Christian apologist to explain what Islam gets right about Jesus, what it leaves out, and why the differences aren’t minor—they’re eternal.
Whether you're a Muslim, a Christian, or simply curious, this episode will help you understand one of the most fascinating—and essential—points of divergence between two of the world’s largest faiths.

"If the virgin birth really happened, why did Jesus’ own family think He was out of His mind?"
That’s the sharp question we received after releasing two episodes on the historical and theological credibility of the virgin birth. And honestly, it’s a great one.
In this episode of All Rise, Abdu Murray and Derek Caldwell explore the surprising—and often misunderstood—passages in Mark 3:21 and John 7:5, which seem to suggest that Jesus’ own family, possibly even Mary, doubted Him or thought He had gone too far. Does that undermine the credibility of the virgin birth? Or is something deeper going on?
What we discovered in the biblical text was far more intriguing than expected—revealing layers of historical, cultural, and biblical insight that actually strengthen the case for who Jesus really is.
Whether you're questioning, curious, or confident in your faith, this episode brings clarity to one of the most human—and most profound—questions in the Gospels.

What do Muslims believe about God? In this episode of All Rise, former Muslim and Christian apologist Abdu Murray takes a deep dive into Islamic theology to explore who Allah is—his attributes, character, actions in history, and relationship with humanity.
But this isn’t a caricature. This is a steelman critique.
With both respect and clarity, Abdu outlines the Islamic view of Allah in its best and most compelling form—before thoughtfully examining how it differs from the Christian understanding of God. Drawing from his own background and family ties to Islam, Abdu explains why the biblical picture of God ultimately offers a more complete and relational view of the divine.
Whether you're a Muslim, Christian, skeptic, or curious seeker, this episode offers a respectful and intellectually honest conversation about one of the most important questions of all: Who is God?

Tis the season … to discuss the resurrection! In this special bonus episode of All Rise, we take you back to a compelling 2016 debate between two men who have each made dramatic journeys of faith and doubt. Christian apologist and former Muslim Abdu Murray goes head-to-head with atheist and former Christian John Loftus on the foundational question of Christianity: Did Jesus really rise from the dead?
This rigorous and respectful exchange tackles the historical, philosophical, and evidential claims surrounding the resurrection of Jesus. Whether you're a believer, skeptic, or seeker, this debate offers valuable insights and thoughtful arguments from both sides.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali, the famed Muslim-turned-atheist and critic of religion along with her New Atheist cohort, shocked the world when she came out as a Christian in 2023. The partial story of her conversion from the UnHerd article she penned received backlash from non-Christian and Christian commentators alike. Recently, she sat down with agnostic Alex O'Connor to set the record straight. In this episode of All Rise, former Muslim, Abdu Murray, and former atheist, Derek Caldwell, react to Ayaan's more complete self-disclosure.

If Matthew had known Hebrew and understood the context, he would have known that Isaiah was not prophesying a "virgin birth." If Dr. Ehrman is true, that means the Gospel story of Jesus is built on a lie. What is the truth? Find out in this in-depth investigation.

One approach to testing the reliability, or lack thereof, of the Gospel accounts of the Resurrection is the "minimal facts" approach by which we look at only those facts that are undisputed among even the most critical scholars. But are there good reasons to move beyond the "minimal facts" to "maximal data"?

The late physicist, philosopher, and atheist Victor Stenger once said, "Science flies you to the moon. Religion flies you into buildings." This is a popular notion today, especially in the West where Christianity and the Bible are often blamed for anti-scientific superstitions, terrorism, racism, and sexism, among other maladies. But is this correct? Abdu confronts these tough objections during a 2023 address to a packed room of college students at the University of Central Florida. Check back in 2 weeks for the lively Q&A that followed!

Popular internet personality Rhett McLaughlin, of Rhett & Link's Good Mythical Morning YouTube fame, has become famous for "deconstructing" his evangelical faith. In a recent Instagram Reel, he explains why: the experts! In this episode, Abdu and Derek look at Rhett's appeals to authority and confront two thorny issues: Is expert consensus emerging or is it being crafted? And should one's faith in consensus itself be deconstructed? This episode mentions several items that you may be interested in looking at further. Mystery gospels full of secret truths suppressed by the Church for centuries have finally been revealed! … Sounds intriguing, doesn't it? According to the millions of people who have bought books, watched movies, and read news stories with such headlines, it certainly is! We all love a good "mystery has been revealed" story, but is there anything to it, or is this just conspiratorial fiction? Today, we are joined by Bible scholar and apologist Wes Huff to investigate these claims by looking at, arguably, the most important of the so-called "suppressed" gospels, the Gospel of Thomas. Wes Huff is a popular author and speaker with Apologetics Canada, where he serves as the Central Canada Director, and is currently completing his PhD studies in New Testament and Christian Origins at the University of Toronto's Wycliffe College. Bart Ehrman claims that the Gospels are anonymous because the names attached to them are too convenient and were added a century later, and because the disciples of Jesus were too illiterate to write such exquisite Greek texts. Has Dr. Ehrman overstated the case? This episode is in response to the comments that critical New Testament scholar Bart Ehrman has made in writing and to interviewers, such as in the video highlighted in our episode: Bart Ehrman on the Bible's Authors ( https://youtu.be/pDfYA21lDic ). Also mentioned in this episode was Simon Gathercole's article "The Alleged Anonymity of the Canonical Gospels" in The Journal of Theological Studies (2018), Craig Evans' Jesus and the Manuscripts (Hendrickson Academic, 2020), and Brant Pitre's The Case for Jesus (Image: 2016). Plato's "Euthyphro Dilemma" has been asked and answered, and some say settled for centuries. Popular atheist podcaster, YouTuber, and debater, Matt Dillahunty says that, to the contrary, Christian apologists have not sufficiently responded to the philosophical dilemma. In this episode, Abdu discusses and critiques Matt's revived and rehabbed version of the Euthyphro Dilemma.
In the previous episode, Abdu addressed allegedly sexist "texts of terror" in the Bible. Today, he presents his evidence for why the Bible establishes rather than inhibits the equality and dignity of women, often in very surprising ways!

Comedian, television host and avowed atheist Bill Maher claims that the bible never condemns slavery, and in fact, it implicitly supports the institution. Abdu answers these claims but also asks whether Maher's objection would be sustainable in a court of law given his level of expertise. In other words, does speaking authoritatively mean that you are, in fact, authoritative? Find out in this PACKED episode of All Rise!

Who made God? This is a question that has been asked many, many times. It has also been answered just as many times, if not more! Why won't this question go away? Abdu offers a response to the question, Who Made God, while also addressing the tactics of those who continue to ask the same already-answered question until they elicit the desired response.
Christians believe the Bible was inspired by God, who does not make mistakes. Therefore, the Bible must be without error. However, if an error in the Bible is located, does this mean God did not inspire Christian holy writ? Join Abdu as he cross-examinates a claim about the disputed age of King Ahaziah.
In the previous episode, medical physicist Scott Symington described his paradigm for understanding the relationship between Christianity and science, which he called STOMA, or symbiotic trending overlapping magisteria. In this episode, Abdu and Scott discuss certain controversial topics in the conversation between religion and science and apply Scott's STOMA paradigm to them in order to discover whether science and Christianity are symbiotic and trending toward each other.
Abdu is joined by medical physicist Scott Symington to discuss the relationship between religion and science. Do they intersect or overlap, or are they part of what Stephen Jay Gould called non-overlapping magisteria (NOMA)? Symington proposes an alternative paradigm, STOMA, that holds the potential for mutual benefit between science and, in particular, Christianity.
"The Bible is the Word of God because the Bible says it is the Word of God." If you've ever made or heard this argument, you may have heard the accusation that it uses circular reasoning. Is that true? And if so, is it even possible to claim the divine authorship of the Bible without using circular reasoning? All this and more on this week's episode of All Rise!
Did Paul create a different Christianity than Jesus? That is the claim of Muslim apologist Shabir Ally. In this episode, Abdu responds to the alleged inconsistencies between the teachings of Paul and Jesus.
Did Paul create a different Christianity than Jesus? That is the claim of Muslim apologist Shabir Ally. In this episode, Abdu investigates his claims through the legal principle of the adverse witness with help from an unlikely ally, Bart Ehrman, and illustrates the similarities between the teachings of Paul and Jesus.
This season started off with Abdu discussing burdens of proof and episodes on a lawyer's case for the resurrection. As we wrap up season one of The Defense Rests, we apply those themes to a common objection by skeptics: the Bible's crucifixion and resurrection accounts have discrepancies.

In this episode, Abdu sits down with his friend and nationally recognized cold case homicide detective J. Warner Wallace to talk about the nature of evidence, how cases are built using evidence, and attitudes that investigators have when trying to determine "what happened." Sometimes a fact or line of reasoning we use turns out to be wrong or flawed. What do we do? We needn't panic, Abdu says. In this episode, Abdu suggests how to address the error and rebuild a robust case that doesn't depend on just one line of evidence or argument.
Abdu's friend and President of Stand to Reason, Greg Koukl, join's him to discuss the updated edition of Greg's book, Tactics: A Gameplan for Discussing Your Christian Convictions. Tactics equips Christians with the same kind of methods lawyers use to find out the facts in a case. This is part two of a two-part interview.

Jesus' sacrifice on the cross is central to the Christian faith. The gospel message is that Jesus paid the penalty for our sins on the cross. Yet some object that Jesus' substitution for us on the cross is unjust. How is it just for an innocent person to be punished in the place of the guilty? Abdu addresses this objection by pointing to legal principles showing how it can often be fair for an innocent person to take on the liability of another.
Abdu will apply the principles discussed in Part 1 to matters of faith, particularly the credibility of the New Testament and the creation account in Genesis.
When assessing a claim, we often look at the testimonies of witnesses, including experts. But how can we tell if a witness is being biased toward one side or the other? Do we sometimes give too much weight to someone's opinion just because they happen to have expertise in a certain area? And what about jurors—those whose responsibilities are to come to a verdict? Can they be biased as well? Abdu will walk us through how to think about these issues. As we look at the claims and objections regarding spiritual claims, we have to be on the lookout not only for the biased witnesses, but also our own biases.
Could the disciples have experienced a mass hallucination that Jesus rose from the dead instead of actually seeing the risen Jesus? We put this explanation, popular among some skeptics, to the test by employing the rules as to the admissibility of expert testimony.
One explanation of what happened to Jesus is that he didn't rise from the dead, because he never actually died. Instead, some say he "swooned" so that it seemed like he was dead but he was actually entombed alive. In this episode, Abdu looks at how expert medical testimony establishes that Jesus did in fact die on the cross.
This episode begins with the discussion of counter-explanations to the Resurrection. Specifically, the objection that since miracles are the least likely event, they are the least likely explanation of what happened to Jesus. In this episode, Abdu indicates how this objection employs unfounded assumptions and actually employs circular reasoning.
This episode continues to discuss the CASE acronym, specifically the S and the E to establish the case that Jesus rose from the dead. We discuss the burden of proof once again, and how the Christian can meet the burden and then shift it onto the skeptic to try to explain what happened to Jesus.
This episode explains the differences between "circumstantial evidence" and "direct evidence." It includes Abdu's "CASE" acronym setting out four key facts about the historical Jesus that the vast majority of scholars agree on. Abdu argues that Jesus' resurrection from the dead best explains the facts.
In this episode, Abdu examines the concept of burdens of proof, to see who has it, how to meet it, and whether the burden ever shifts.
