In a world where anything is better than nothing, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana should be applauded for providing a 25% rebate for solar roof panels. But as an incentive for families to really invest in solar panels and therefore give some relief to the country’s ageing electricity grid, the rebate is not bold enough. The ANC has shown the country how lightly it takes the issue of removing a sitting president. The infamous “Eight Days in September” detailed shocking details of how decisions were taken around the recall of former president Thabo Mbeki. We are now stuck with this unfortunate precedent. When Kgalema Motlanthe was caretaker president for 18 months, he began the process of stripping the NPA by dissolving the Scorpions. The recall of Jacob Zuma was a similar circus.
