Empathy is Badass

This is Empathy is Badass. Where you don't have to be an ass to be a badass!

My mission is to help my fellow humans harness the power of empathy, compassion, and kindness. I spent years feeling trapped in a sad mindset that no longer served me, and I wanted out. So, I got uncomfortable, vulnerable, and questioned everything I thought I knew. I found true happiness at rock bottom and haven’t looked back. We will talk about how to turn your pain into power and let the bull **** go.

There is no secret sauce that will transform your mindset overnight, but listening to this podcast might help. Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/empathyisbadass/support

This episode is my πŸ”₯hotπŸ”₯ take on reels and shorts. I also include a week-long intention-setting practice that can help you take the first step in changing those habits that no longer serve you.

We all get a little lost in the sauce sometimes. Instead of addressing an issue or feeling, we might cover it up with consumption and seek a quick fix to make us forget. Reels and shorts can be a not-so-productive use of our time that can help you forget your problems in the moment, but leave you feeling like a zombie when you snap back to reality.

If everyone spent the same amount of time that they do on reels being present with the ones we love, finding joy in the beauty around us, working on personal growth and change, and addressing whatever problems we are facing, think of how different our lives might be.

Reels and shorts are on every form of social media and are just as popular, if not more, than television and movies. With their rise in popularity over the last few years, it is more important now than ever to check in with ourselves and see how shorts and reels have impacted our lives.

We are constantly consuming. We consume content, videos, advertisements, conversations, food, music, energy, and more on a daily basis. We sometimes might distract ourselves by consuming reels, television, and other people's drama.

"Everything we consume acts either to heal us or to poison us." - Thich Nhat Hanh

Sometimes without us even realizing it, the things we consume can start to affect our vibration, energy, and overall well being. This can be for better, or for worse.

So, how can we protect ourselves from bad or not so good, and seek out the good? How can we stop distracting ourselves and lead by example to help others see the light? Listen to this episode to learn more :)

In this episode, I talk about how sorry I've always been for existing.

I realized recently that I feel and say sorry for just taking up space and existing in the world on a daily basis. I apologize to strangers constantly for walking in their general direction, being in the same space, feeling or being awkward, or not understanding something they were saying.

I never recognized how sorry I always was until I was in my 20s and coworkers and friends started asking me why I was always apologizing. I never really thought about why. Before I cared for and wanted the best for myself, it never really mattered to me that I was sorry or why I felt that way in the first place.

I had a "this has to end" moment today when I said "sorry" to a stranger after opening the door for them. That's right, I apologized to someone else, for being polite, because I felt like I was taking up too much space.

I realized at that moment that I still have some work to do, and also wondered if anyone else out there was feeling just as sorry as I was for existing.

That was the inspiration for this episode. I wanted to remind everyone that regardless of what you have done, who you have been, or what you have been told, you are worthy of taking up space in this world. But it will take time, and maybe even a little practice for you to really believe it's true.

Imagine that your uniqueness is your superpower. You can use it for good, to inspire others to believe that they are worthy of not just existing, but living a beautiful, full, and happy life.

In this episode, I talk about how change or fresh starts can sometimes feel insurmountable. But, if we break it down into smaller achievable tasks, we can manifest our wildest dreams!

I also give you 31 different affirmations to give you the boost you need to have faith in yourself and trust in the process. You can listen to them any time, any place, as many times as you want. Feel free to listen, repeat them, or write them down.

Affirmations Begin @ about 35 minutes into the Podcast

Are you burned out, feeling like you're not living up to your potential, or just ready for a change? You are not alone! People change careers, styles, living arrangements, doctors, clubs, and more every single day! It makes perfect sense that out of the million bajillion things to try or be in this world, you might not find your dream job or activity on the first try.

The best part of the human experience is that as long as you're still alive, you always have a chance to start over! I'm sure to some, the last sentence might sound a little cheesy or motivational poster-ish, but it has always been true in my experience. Every day we wake up we have a choice to make to be complacent with our circumstances or to try to actively try to change what no longer serves us.

The universe will always provide if you're open to it, but that doesn't usually look like a package delivered to your front door. It is your responsibility to be intentional with your thoughts, actions, and decisions. You have control over your destiny, but it will take hard work and hope along the way.

Sometimes change can feel like an insurmountable task. Remember that growth is an infinite goal, there is no finish line. The real goal is to be honest with yourself about what you are unhappy with, and do your best every day to work towards change.

There isn't a secret sauce that will transform your life and mindset overnight so be patient with yourself, trust in the process, and be sure to subscribe so you won't miss our next episode release :)

In this episode, I give you 20 realistic and straightforward tips on confronting and combating loneliness and isolation. As an adult, and in general, making friends can be hard. The only one who can initiate action in the fight against your loneliness, is you. You have to intentionally step outside of your comfort zone in search of your people and purpose.

I talk about how to embrace our moments alone and turn them into opportunities. Time alone is great for reflection and figuring out what energy you are wanting and needing in your life. Then, you can step into the world of socialization with confidence in who you are and who you are looking for.

Know you are worthy of companionship and there are so many people who will love you that haven't even met you yet.

The 20 tips start at roughly 9 minutes and 45 seconds into the episode if you're short on time.

Please send me a message or share if any of these tips helped you make a new friend or feel a little less lonely :)

In this episode, I talk about how much it sucks to be lonely sometimes and how hard it can be to make friends as an adult human. I also give you 40 different affirmations to help combat loneliness and attract new friends into your life. You can listen to them any time, any place, as many times as you want. Feel free to listen, repeat them, or write them down.

Affirmations Begin @ 33 minutes into the Podcast

Loneliness is a universal emotion, so why does it feel so awkward and uncomfortable to talk about?

At some point in our lives, we have all felt lonely. It can happen after moving, losing someone, finishing school, or ending a relationship. Isolation isn't always a choice (medical/physical disabilities, immunocompromised, etc.), and being lonely is a natural emotion in these situations. The Covid-19 pandemic forced many of us into isolation. Not only did this cause a global feeling of being lonely, but it also changed the way we interact with one another. It can sometimes feel more uncomfortable to put yourself out there and engage with strangers than to just stay lonely if it's what you're used to.

So if we're all awkward, anti-social, and more used to being alone now, how do we meet new people and make new friends? A great place to start is your inner monologue surrounding loneliness, friendship, and self-worth. Setting the intention of attracting the right people into your life can help you avoid toxic people and relationships.

Being alone with yourself doesn't have to feel lonely. These times of peace and solitude can be a great opportunity to look inward, reflect, and determine what you really want from life and your relationships with others.

In this episode, I share how recent health concerns have given me a new perspective on impermanence. Suffering and change are inevitable truths of existence. Nothing lasts forever, no matter how much we wish it did. Our bodies, other people, relationships, and our environment are constantly changing and reshaping around us. The more we resist change, the more it pushes back against us. The more we embrace change, the more at peace we feel.

It can feel so overwhelming, and even scary, when everything seems to be changing or ending. In these times of change, sometimes the only thing we are in control of is our reaction to what is happening. We can choose to embrace the change and find perspective and strength from it, or react in a way that does not serve our journey and only hinders our growth. Self awareness and emotional regulation are extremely powerful tools that can help your communication, relationship building, career, and more.

Please remember we are all human and nothing is one size fits all. There is no secret sauce that will change your life overnight, but hopefully listening to this podcast will help in any way.

Are you feeling anxious or stressed? The 5-4-3-2-1 method is a grounding exercise that can be done anywhere and any time. It can help to manage stress, anxiety, and emotions. This exercise is also a great way to break the cycle of the scroll and bring yourself back into the real world.

It requires no supplies or pre-planning, just your mind! Grounding exercises are mindfulness or self awareness tools that can help to calm anxious thoughts and bring you back to the present moment.

The walk through of the exercise begins around 15 minutes in. Everything before that is great too but I know everyone's time is important πŸ˜„

On this episode I give you a quick perspective on toxic positivity. There is so much bad in the world, so are we allowed to be positive? Blissful ignorance can turn into plain ignorance very quickly when you lack perspective. It is important to find the balance in the good and the bad and to recognize the difference between our reality and the bigger picture. When we turn a blind eye to or ignore suffering other than our own, we can invalidate the suffering of others. Β Life is hard. People die, feel pain, and hurt, it's inevitable. Our outlook and perspective is where we have more control. Turn your pain into power.Β

In this episode I talk about choosing forgiveness for the good of yourself, not for the person that hurt you. I also talk about my new flip phone, Flippy.Β

Finding forgiveness and empathy for someone does not excuse or justify their behavior. It also doesn't take away the pain they've caused you or make it any less valid. Forgiveness will help you keep a light heart/soul and lead a happy life. It's not about winning. Forgiveness is about growing, learning, and healing. Come with me on my journey to find the power in forgiveness, and maybe you'll find some power and perspective for yourself too.Β

In this episode, I talk about the Ice Cube Method. This method is simple, quick, free, and effective. It can be done almost anywhere and any time and requires virtually no supplies. All you need is an ice cube, cold water, a cold shower, a cold wash cloth, fresh air, or fan. This technique can help your body and mind go from overloaded and overwhelmed to back in the present moment and ready to evaluate your emotions. This technique can help people who suffer from panic attacks, PTSD flashbacks, stress, anxiety, and more.

I have personally used this technique for almost a decade and it is something I will always carry with me. While I can't say it will work for everyone, I can say it's always worth a shot to try. What do you have to lose?

This Mini Series is based on my article, "10 Ways to Instantly Reduce Stress and Anxiety" https://empathyisbadass.com/10waystoinstantlyreducestressandanxiety In these "mini" (ish) episodes,

In this episode, I talk about the benefits animals can have for someone suffering from stress or anxiety, and anyone on their healing journey. Animals, and more specifically dogs, have been a huge part of my healing journey. Over the last 6 years, my dogs have shown me what it means to give unconditional love and acceptance. They have been my friends, my motivators, my caretakers, and have given me so much perspective.

I wanted to share my story to show how impactful and meaningful an animal's' presence can be in your life. Science itself says that animals are beneficial to not only your mental health but your physical health as well. Being around animals can decrease your blood pressure and stress levels almost instantly.

My name is Alyssa, how the heck are ya?

My whole life I did everything I could to be more normal. After a long series of unfortunate events in my teens and twenties, I had an epiphany. Trying to be normal was a huge * waste of my time. My mission became helping my fellow humans harness the power behind empathy, compassion, and kindness to become their most badass and happy selves.

I started building Empathy is Badass in 2021. It started as a few sticker designs and etsy resume templates and has since spawned into a podcast, website, blog, YouTube page, and more.

As our tagline says,"You don't have to be an ass to be a badass."

Being different is f*king awesome. Nothing great stems from the same old boring sht everyone has always been doing ya know what I mean?

My goal is to create a safe space for the weirdos, the broken, the hurt, and the healing. A platform for people who have been through hell and back and want to have a conversation about it.

I will talk about the taboo, the uncomfortable, the hard to navigate, the complex, the sad, the happy, the best, and the worst.

By sharing my stories, perspective, and chaotic ADHD thoughts, I hope I can help you heal, grow, and let the rest go. I’ll teach you how to harness the power of empathy, compassion, mindfulness, perspective, and courage to grow and learn from your suffering and embrace your most authentic and badass self.

I want to help you find resources and perspective for before, during, and after the hurt that inevitably happens in life.

There is no secret sauce that will transform your mindset and life overnight, but listening to this podcast might help.

Thank you so much for supporting me and listening. PLEASE let me know what you like and don't like and what you'd like to hear next.
