Self-Efficacy is your belief in your ability to accomplish tasks. Why is it important to have high self-efficacy? Because if you think you can't/won't, then you probably won't start, and then you will certainly be right.

Fortunately, we can actively raise our levels of self-efficacy. So, if you have low self-efficacy, don't worry because in this episode I share with you 4 ways to develop your self-efficacy.

I tailor a lot of this information to Enneagram Type 5's (which I am) because our deepest fear is that we are incompetent and I believe that many of us can unwittingly fall into a self-fulfilling prophecy of proving just how "incapable" we are by not acting on our goals! However, this episode will help anyone who is interested in learning about these 4 ways to build self-efficacy.

A little add-on to the episode I just published, because I had some more thoughts about it...

The basic idea is that your core type is founded upon a fear that you cannot seem to rationalize away or get away from. It's possible to have fears related to the other types, but it's much easier to be convinced that they are not real.

Even though Enneagram Types 5 and 4 are seemingly vastly different on the surface, it can be challenging figuring out which one you are. In this episode, we get to the core motivational issues that make up the Type 5 and the Type 4.

Finding alignment between what you love [id] & what the world expects--or accepts--of you [superego] may be the answer to quite a few questions, and the solution to quite a few tensions.

Establishing harmony between id & superego in the form of an authentic ego* may just make life a bit easier. And, I know you're doing this anyway, but perhaps giving it a name will make it less painful.

*I know this is a dirty word, nearly an expletive in some circles, but...

P.S.

I said I'd make my homemade tarot cards the episode cover photo, but I changed my mind. I'll put them on the tumblr (see below)

Today is the first day of December, which means that from now until December 25th, it’s Christmas.

In the spirit of Christmas, I’ve written a Christmas poem about my cat, which I would like to share with you all today. Between the intro and my read-aloud, we talk about writing, how it plays with tension and relief, how writing is life, and life is tension and relief.

Happy Holidays!

Do you have a cat you'd like to write a Christmas poem about? Write the poem and send it to me at elucinate@gmail.com!

Spiritual lesson of the week for my lovely listeners and myself: we're not the victims we (sometimes) think we are...we're far too powerful to be that.

We're here by choice.

We're in our circumstances by choice.

And when we're truly "trapped" in a situation (which is not as often as we think), we're learning a lesson.

By the way, happy Friday the 13th! Mars stations direct today too...and we have a new moon coming up in two days! What a great time to set some intentions~

:)

This episode gets a little weird...I talk unscripted about my experience with currently on-going vertigo after listening to crown chakra activating Tibetan bells. Apparently, people are (and have been) experiencing dizziness, vertigo & nausea, and are (and have been) attributing their symptoms to spiritual causes too. This is one perspective.

WARNING: Please do not listen while driving or operating heavy machinery. Opening of the crown chakra can cause dizziness.

Sometimes we don't need more words or information. Sometimes we need peace of mind.

So, in this week's episode, let's quiet our minds & meditate.  We will use sounds of Tibetan bells help us achieve that state.

//

My friend Vittorio originally made & sent this recording to me to use for a guided meditation. Upon hearing it, my mind became focused yet quiet & I felt peaceful. So, rather than adding my voice to it, I want to show you the music as is.

Vittorio Piredda Virgilio is an Italian composer, studying at the Milan Conservatory. He composes & performs a wide range of music and instruments, exploring and breaking conventions of genre.

The Loving Kindness Meditation is a form of meditation which brings focus to and helps cultivate compassion

A form of meditation which originates from Buddhism, the Loving Kindness Meditation has been studied for its mental and physical health benefits, which we will be discussing in this episode. Then, we will listen to a guided meditation which uses techniques of visualization to practice the Loving Kindness Meditation by going on a journey to an enchanted forest where we will be greeted with some familiar faces.

(To skip to the meditation, go to minute 2:49)

What are the 8 cognitive functions of MBTI, or the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator? The cognitive functions were first discovered by Carl Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist, and through working with his patients, he noticed patterns in the way that people perceive and make judgements.

In today's episode, we are talking about (1) the 8 cognitive functions that make up the 16 types in MBTI (2) how to find what "type" we are and (3) how to use the knowledge for better self-awareness and self-mastery.
