Hello!
I started this blog back in 2005 - 16 years ago and over time have created a flute blog and a nyckelharpa teaching blog. I've now decided to amalgamate the three sites into one teaching website and put most of the material behind a paywall.I always wanted to keep my teaching open for as many people as possible - and I took the opportunity to create many new videos during the pandemic. However - the time has come to paywall my work.I will be moving these lessons and videos over - so if you come across a missing page, pop on over to my new website to find them!Hope to see you over there!Lots of LoveVx
Hello!
A tune I wrote a really long time ago and blogged - but this is it taught by ear! So although the dots are here, ignore them! I've also put the original video at the bottom of this post. It's from 2006 - 15 years in-between the two. You can certainly see how technology has come along!!!

Hello!
It's International Bagpipe Day today. I've been wanting to film this again on the border pipes but haven't yet managed to put in place the filming I wanted to do. So I grabbed the camera and just filmed it for Jock!
Enjoy

Hello,
A really beautiful tune composed by Jock Agnew who sadly died in October this year. Written for border pipes - this is it played on Scottish Smallpipes in A.

Hello!I'm pretty sure most people will know I spend most of my time on my nyckelharpa blog. I've been running a virtual session there since the middle of May. This week however, Jonny couldn't be with me and it became a säckpipa friendly session! So join in with me and see what happens when Jonny can't come!
The tune list is as follows:* Långdans från Sollerön
* Menuetto efter Sven Donat
* Pollonesse efter Andreas Dahlgren Nr. 87
* Röra Röret
* Gärdsbygubbarnas Polska
* PDF of the dots
* Blog entry for this session
As we've said before, these sessions take a lot of time to put together and we definitely enjoy doing them. But I am up against a pretty hard deadline with the Virtual Halsway - so there may not be any sessions between now and then as I put together that weekend.This leads me on to two little adverts!The Virtual Halsway Weekend. I should have been at Halsway Manor on the 18th and 19th September with many other nyckelharpa players. As we can't do this I'm running some online workshops and session. You'll find all the information on my actual website - Click here! But we have Peter Hedlund, Leif Alpsj¨ø and Thor Pleijel doing some Zoom workshops. I am giving a nyckelharpa focussed Zoom concert in the evening. So check out the website and get yourself booked on!!
My second advert is for a Crowdfunding project I'm doing - an album of Dances from Terpsichore by Praetorius on nyckelharpa quintet. As of today I'm at 50% funded with three weeks to go. Check it out!www.crowdfunder.co.uk/hearts-eyesSee you at the session on Sunday!:))Vicki

Hello!It's time for a Scottish small pipe tune that I wrote today. It's a great tune for technique as well as rocking along. It's a four part jig that I wrote when I was playing around with the idea of implying chords within pipe tunes. You need to make sure your fingers are really accurate! Don't be sloppy when it's slow as it'll be impossible to play accurately fast!:))VickiBuy me a coffee
Hello!
It's time for a schottis! We've not had one for a while! This is another one from Småland - Tingsås. It was found in the manuscript by Magnus Gustafsson.
Enjoy!

Hello!
This is the last of my Swedish tunes on the Scottish smallpipes for a while as I switch back to the säckpipa for a while now. This has to be one of my most favourite tunes I play on the pipes. Watch out for the rhythm, let it swing and enjoy!

Hello!
This is really a slängpolska, so slightly slower than an eight note polska and we have three distinct beats to the bar, rather than the one-three-one that happens in the eight note. It's a great tune that I have done before on this blog - but it's worth coming back to!
Enjoy!

Hello!
This tune is a really great tune from a Swedish piper. The trick with this tune is the staccato, short sharp notes at the beginning, trying to make them sound snappy like they do on the säckpipa.
Enjoy!

Hello!
A real classic säckpipa tune today, one that is or should be in everyone's repertoire. It's an eight note polska, meaning you swing it!
Enjoy!

Hello!
A polska today on the Scottish smallpipes. It's an eight note polska, so that means make sure you swing the dotted quaver/semi quaver figures. Watch out for the sei-quavers in the B part. It also needs a C natural thumb hole for the right hand. It's a great polska though - I love it!
Enjoy!
