Do you like sipping coffee in a cozy shop on a cold rainy day? Well we do too! This Friday we're back again joined by our great friends, Kate & Emily of No Small Games, to discuss the indie darling - Coffee Talk. Set it an alternate history full of elves, orcs, harpies and sirens we play the role of a mysterious barista who owns and operates the coziest late-night coffee talk with absolute vibes. We break down why Nick would be a terrible barista, why this game works and how you might want to engage with it as a visual novel! We couldn't be happier to be back and hoping everyone listening can sip on a cozy warm beverage this weekend! Minor story spoilers involved - nothing crazy but be warned!

Once in a while a game releases that changes the fabric of the gaming world. In recent history the likes of Elden Ring, Baldur's Gate 3, Breath of the Wild and even more have left their own indelible mark on the gaming industry and are still discussed in our communities to this day. Clair Obscur Expedition 33 is the next game to have this level of impact. We're joined by Rick Firestone of Pixel Project Radio to fully deep dive into E33 and provide you a critical analysis. So kick back, grab a drink and join us while we spill some ink.

One of the biggest JRPGs of 2024 deserves one of the biggest FNGC episodes of Season 3 and we are here to deliver! This week I'm joined by Same Heaney (of No Limits!) and Dave Jackson (Tales from the Backlog) to conduct a comprehensive analysis of Metaphor Refantazio. A fascinating title that expects much of the player and provides even more in return. We face idealism, nihilism, and a journey of the hero and the self as we travel with the protagonist across the Kingdom of Euchronia. We discover how real world politics have informed the sociopolitical discourse deeply imbedded in this title. I couldn't be more excited to share this episode with you all and, as always, welcome your thoughts on Metaphor.

This episode is going to be very similar to the last one that we put out where Will covered Mario Odyssey!. Its straight to the point in covering all things around Half-Life 2. The elements that I (Nick) enjoyed, my critiques and whether it held up for me in 2023. We're also going to provide a beat-by-beat breakdown of the plot/levels throughout the game and where my headspace was at in each moment. Happy early Friday everybody! The Season 2 finale of FNGC is here for your listening pleasure. This was an incredibly fun episode to just have Will and myself in the booth and it's just kick back for a relaxing conversation about the best games of 2023. There's a extra section included here where I interview Will about the show and his thoughts on 2023 which is a "Hot Ones" styled interview but instead we're taste testing energy drinks! After nearly a month of doing remote recordings with featured guests, this felt great to sit back in person with Will to dig deep on what made this year so special. We will have one more episode releasing shortly after this and then go on a mild hiatus before jumping back in to do some great stuff for Season 3, so keep your eyes peeled!

Here is a question that has long tugged at the minds of both Will and I: Is there ever going to be a different developer that understands the formula/philosophy Fromsoftware puts into their video games? And will that developer make something that captures the spirit of the Fromsoft catelog and make their own original concept? Xbox is currently going through it right now with the suit being brought to court by the FTC regarding the Activision Blizzard acquisition. What's up everyone! This is a little teaser - an appetizer, if you will, for the debut of FNGC's Season 2 airing tomorrow! The PS Showcase happened before the events of our recording on the Xbox Showcase, so it seemed only fitting that we'd throw our reaction episode up here for a quick little run down on our thoughts of what Sony had to offer us here. This is the type of labeling we're using going forward for shows that are outside our mainline episodes. Let us know what you think, and don't you ever stop gaming!

Happy Friday everyone! Since the Fireside Talks have ended, we're posting this Patreon series "Didja Hate It" to the main feed so you can hear some quality 10/10 Will content as he returns to the show and hold you over a bit longer before we officially start Season 2! (Keep your eyes peeled for announcements)
This series is the end result of when Will and I let you pick the game we play through voting on both Patreon (and Twitter if we need a tie breaker). It was originally just going to be a gag to finally get William to pick up a Nintendo Switch Joycon and mess around a bit, but turns out this works really well as some exclusive content that you all very much deserve. The idea behind this is, Will and I will go back and forth to pick games we think have a 50/50 shot of making us hate our time with it, or end up really loving the experience. Then we'll leave the final determination up to you all!

Our good friends return! Liv and Frew are back in the building and we're talking all about their show and how they got started (e.g. Frewy got tired of hearing about Liv's favorite podcasts going away). Liv downright refuses to play RE4 Remake and Frew is totally a Man City fan. But most importantly we're covering a game that's special to all of us: Sad dad simulator aka The Last of Us (The one with Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson - not the HBO miniseries).
This is the last episode of this season's Fireside Talks and is the 18th released episode in this limited series. It was a wonderful time and I can't thank all my guests enough who I've had the privilege hosting on our show these past weeks. Both Will and I are grateful to everyone and we're ready to keep on pushing forward! Get hyped for Season 2!

This week's episode is covering the next generation consoles and how Will and I think they're doing and how we'd rank our overall experience with them. You better watch out because it was a crazy news week too. Between the Marvel x EA deal, Modern Warfare 2's Cross-Play issues and the HBO TLOU release date we're in for a wild ride on this one. This week Nick and Will break down their perspective on scoring and/or rating systems that popular gaming outlets use to assess games. Do we both default to IGN? Jake Baldino? Do we think that using Metacritic as a tool is worth our time? Will has been successfully coerced into playing Mario Odyssey! But Cult of the Lamb: Blood Moon Festival, GoW Ragnarok leaks and the RE4 Remake all get a closer look. Let us know what scoring system or outlet you all default to. Happy Halloween weekend everyone!

We're very excited to jump back in this Friday with an incredible episode surrounding a pretty contentious topic: whether or not developers should/could/would put difficulty options and heightened accessibility modifiers into their game (spoiler alert: we also talk about Fromsoft and Soulsborne titles). The Meta Quest Pro is $1,500 & Game Pass makes 2.9 billion?! Will has been dragged back into a familiar Overwatch obsession and he's taking Nick with him over the edge. Nick is also still trying to figure out how long Danganronpa is going to take him....this game is actually long :') Everyone please have a great weekend and let us know your thoughts on accessibility in games!

Intermission: Overwatch 2 - Round Start (Alternative Version 3) [Adam Burgess - I am listing Adam as the primary composer for this specific song but the OST composition data for OW2 is surprisingly hard to find readily accessible anywhere - so the short version is Adam is my best guess and it's likely he was involved with the engineering at some point. Adam also worked on the song "Hollywood" in the Overwatch 1 Collector's Edition...needless to say this song goes bonkers]

We're starting off October strong with a review of some gaming levels that absolutely terrified us! Horror games have almost perfected jump scares and that foreboding sense of dread you get knowing you have to go deeper into that dungeon or basement. Will and Nick take the time to unpack some of the most terrifying experiences whether it comes from Resident Evil, Dead Space or Fallout.
