As we start with another New Year, we reflect on some "New Year's Resolutions" that we can make regarding our walk with Jesus and with one another.

Mark 12:28-31One of the scribes approached. When he heard them debating and saw that Jesus answered them well, he asked him, “Which command is the most important of all? ”Jesus answered, “The most important is: Listen, Israel! The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. The second is, Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other command greater than these.”

This morning we come to the last paragraphs of the last chapter of Revelation and it is a more than fitting close to the book and to the bible as a whole. We see in these closing lines a call back to the book, an emphasis on the very words given to John by God.

We see here why Christians have long been called a people of the book. The book is trustworthy and true, firsthand witness of a man who saw the visions about which he wrote. In calling the church to the book, the deeper reason is that we are people of the Savior and he has given us a book! Our Savior, the Alpha & Omega, the root & descendant of David, promises many times in our passage that he is coming soon and he will judge. Our response is to be keepers of the word and worshipers of our Savior.
