Hosted by Biz Mindset & Productivity Coach, Grace Howes, this podcast dives deep into the ways in which women in their 2nd season of life, who have chosen to chart their own course through business ownership, can more repeatedly access their own energetic power and master their mindset doing the work they love. It is for women who are ready to be MORE BRAVE in their being, MORE BOLD in their thinking, MORE BADASS in their doing.
How you see yourself—who YOU think you are touches everything you do.
Who you think you are defines your outlook, your thinking, your actions and, in some instances, your inactions.
It gives context to our lives and shapes us over time. In today’s episode, I share more about identity and our perception of Self as an introduction to the candid conversations I’ve been having.

If you regularly perform a mid-year biz review, this episode will be right up your alley.
And, if you don’t, it’s a good time to start so you can add this extra, vitally needed component as part of it.
A review like this is usually done at the halfway mark of the year to assess and have the time to put in place plans to change trajectory if necessary to stay on top of year-end goals.
But I think something needs to be added to our 6th-month reviews. You take a look at your numbers and your data for your external work but not who YOU were through that 6 months.
Today’s episode is part 1 of a 2-parter where I share what led me to start implementing this extra component and why it's now something I won't NOT do.

You don’t start out being perfect, even as a newborn babe. Messy is where it’s at. But being in the mess all the time can mess with you.
How do you condition yourself for success without miring in the muck way too often and coming out smelling like you know what?
It’s all in choosing how you want to live a life of meaning that crosses over into your business.
In today’s episode I share how to be in the mess but not look a mess, and using your positive internal thoughts as shield against any wallowing that can be happening.
Three key questions to ask yourself plus 7 better thoughts to start swirling in your noggin.

There are only two things that stop you from creating a successful, impactful money-making, fricken blow-it-outta-the-water business.
I know your brain automatically thought of marketing or strategy, right? Nope, although both of those are still a vital part of your business' success.
.
These 2 "things" I talk about in today's episode are even more simple than that. Trust me, you won't believe what they are and by the end, you will TOTALLY get it.

Your brain holds information that you need to decipher. Stuff about the thoughts you think and the actions you DON’T take, as you work to create a more successful business.
The decoding is simple in theory but sometimes very difficult to put into practice.
In today’s episode, I offer 2 ways to help you do just that, enter your brain and retrieve the messages it has for you.
Mindset shifts like this are possible but it’ll take committed effort from you to create them.

If where you’re at is the messy middle, your thinking is most likely all jumbled up. Things start not to make sense anymore.
There’s a haziness there that shrouds everything. But it doesn’t have to be that way.
Messy middles are a great starting point. But you have to recognize that’s where you are to make any changes.
It’s time for some raw-level executing. It's time for some Mindset Rebellion™
In today’s episode, I share how to manage your mindset when you’re in this space, to get out and above the haze.

There is intention and purpose behind our silent pauses that allow us to experience our own grace. This is when we are our most Brave, Bold & Badass selves.
There’s a falsehood women believe when first entering entrepreneurship., that there is only “one way” to do things and that way is to constantly hustle.
We’re ingrained with the mindset that to make it in business, to create massive streams of income and bring in the clients/customers to do so, we must hustle, strive and continue to work exhaustively.
Forget taking breaks or time off.
I argue that that’s a false premise. Feminine and masculine energies are not the same. What works for some will NOT work for others.
In today’s episode, I break things down on why hustle mentality works against your nature and offer 3 questions to ask yourself to see if this is what’s happening for you.

There is intention and purpose behind our silent pauses that allow us to experience our own grace. This is when we are our most Brave, Bold & Badass selves.
Failure isn’t as straightforward as most people think.
We put baggage of “stuff” on how we view our failures and that’s when things can get complicated in business.
Failure is a part of life. We are imperfect human beings so it’s our human conditioning to fail. Not being willing to accept this teeny tiny fact about ourselves is one of the things that can lead to our downfall and quitting a business we started.
In today’s episode, I talk about why your attempt at something that doesn’t go as planned means not a damn thing about you personally and how to stop taking on that crap load of thinking.
Is this you?
If you answered yes or paused even a little, maybe it's time to let me help you reframe that thinking and get out of your way in your business.

Quitting is one way to create change. But what if quitting is not the answer you need, but a reevaluation instead? Or better yet.....a rebellion!
In today’s episode, I talk about one of the issues I was facing that affected my business’ growth and me in it.
I’ll share with you what I did to change the game…….without full-on quitting + 8 steps to take so you can do the same. Listen, there’s no shame in quitting, but sometimes it’s just not necessary.

I am a curious being and love to hear stories of how women do what they do.
In this series on badass female entrepreneurs, I’ll explore through coffee shop-like conversations the topic of women, but in a different way….how we show up in business with our glorious and unique flavour of being.
— what was the driving factor that had them consider business ownership
— what it took for them to actually start and then continue their journey
— what mindset they had to embrace
— how this new way to work helped shape who they are today.
In these conversations you’ll get an inside view of the beginning journey of entrepreneurship, all the ups and downs each one encountered and how they chose to show up and be uniquely themselves.
Today I share a conversation I had with my dear friend and biz colleague, Melissa Miurhead, founder of The Great Work Lab. Working for over 20 years in the corporate environment she understood there was a piece missing.
Melissa deeply believes that workplaces can be environments where people get to live their purpose, contribute to society, and grow and develop.
She wanted to do her part in helping organizations create it through executive coaching, helping them create a culture of growth mindset and, lastly teaching how to use creativity & design thinking in the workplace.

It seems almost impossible to wrap your head around surrendering being a magical thing, right?
Oh, but it is.
In today’s episode, I want to help reframe your thoughts around failure, success and your ability to surrender for the 1st (failure) to eventually turn into the second (success).
As you listen, be open and curious rather than resistant, because when you’re in resistance your mindset has no chance of receiving a new framework to work with.
And surrendering in this instance is a good thing. It has you releasing expectations, expectations that don’t lead to the MAGIC that’s all around you and in you.
Yes, this is still an episode about mindset. One that I hope will shift things for you as you continue to do your passion work.

What does your mindset have to do with growing, scaling, up-levelling in your biz?
Mindset has now become a buzzword, like authenticity a few years ago and now everybody and their uncle are on the clear-up-your-mindset bandwagon with their coaching.
But in today’s episode, I’ll be giving you the real low-down on exactly what mindset is and what it’s got to do with your business, how successful you are plus how it affects your bottom line.

Between the end of the old year and the beginning of the new, there's a certain fervour that takes over our thinking. We push ourselves to come up with the goals we want to achieve by year’s end in business.
Goals that are strategic, workable, certainly attainable and definitely ones that will surpass results from our previous year.
After creating these goals and getting them written down, for the most part, we feel good about what we outlined and the direction we’re heading.
But there are a few things to start doing that will greatly enhance and almost guarantee your goal results.
In today’s episode, I share what these 3 methods are and why it’s imperative you start doing them.
After listening, let me know what you think.
Come find me on the DMs on Instagram and share what came up for you. Are you already using one of them in your business?
And, if you haven't started using them, which one has opened your eyes to something you’re not doing but definitely need to start implementing?

It’s how others see you but more importantly, how you see yourself.
And how you see yourself is all about your mindset.
In today’s episode, I share why your human-to-human connections are important and the 5 mindset principles that help you to make and sustain your connections so that your marketing, your selling and your offers co-exist in a way that up-levels you in business.

A badass new year is upon us and I have a small suggestion for you as you work to create even more success this year in your business.
Instead of spreading yourself wider to reach all the things you think you need to achieve in 2023, I think it’s better to rein yourself in.
Yup, you read that correctly. Pull back on the reins a bit, but not in the way you’re probably thinking.
It sounds strange but, hear me out.
Before you start spreading yourself too thin as you try to come out the gate swinging at all the things you’ve planned, to create a successful outcome for every goal you want to accomplish.
I suggest you look at each goal you've listed and ask yourself….
How can you go deeper rather than wider?
In other words, how can you drill down on what’s needed for the few rather than try to achieve it ALL?
In today’s first episode of the year (Yay!), I have a challenge for you.
Ready to accept it? Go have a listen first, then I want you to check back in with me with how you’re gonna do it.
Yup, here’s my email: grace@kgracehowes.com to contact me directly. I’ll be sitting here waiting…..

Did you know that the average age of those who enter entrepreneurship is 40 years old? And that the success rate of thriving businesses is for those in their 50s?
Go get 'em you badass GenX-er!
There are many reasons why more people, Gen X women in particular, are choosing entrepreneurship as their next path in life.
But the secret to their success and yours lies in this one thing you do.

What activity or event did you try to accomplish this year that felt so risky, so unsafe to your brain, that you backed away from doing it?
Being uncomfortable, feeling unease, tension or anxiety when you're attempting new things in your business or feeling out of depth around others…is normal!
But what our brain does is put on the wailing siren and flash the DANGER, DANGER, DANGER sign.
Consciously you understand that being uncomfortable doesn’t automatically equate to being unsafe. But for certain events you’ve experienced, your brain has yet to uncouple these 2 types of feelings.
In today’s episode, I share why this happens and ways to help you decouple them so that you continue to step up to your uncomfortable edges knowing that your safety is not at risk.

Sometimes what you don’t do is more important than what you do. Strange thought right? But not in terms of your mindset.
It takes a lot of effort to work through mindset beliefs that have been so ingrained in our psyche. A lot of effort to NOT do them anymore.
But, it’s not impossible.
I know this because I’ve done the work and continue to do the work to change how I approach situations or events that occur, and to change the thoughts I bring in that affect t results I get.
Things that create anxiety, bring on a sense of overwhelm or actions lead to burnout in business.
So in today’s episode, I want to share 5 of the negative mindset thoughts I no longer carry. These are the thoughts that stopped me from being more fully present to create a more successful business.

But is this anxiety-inducing time of rushed thinking and hurried implementation truly worth the sitting in the stress and where you need to put your attention?
In today’s episode, I want to give you a different narrative to hold.
One that has you bringing in calm and ease rather than adding to any stress we might be feeling as we close out our year in business.
Also, I have a free download that will help you accomplish this and reflect on your year in a different way that is more forward-looking.

Feelings are hard—to experience, to understand. Most of us tend to stay on the thinking and not feeling side of things.
How does that impact you in business? Truth be told, it's not pretty sometimes nor
is it easy to manoeuvre through the roller coaster ride we unintentionally hop on.
In today’s episode, I share how it showed up for one of my clients and what I helped her do to conquer her habit of sideswiping them.
Plus, there’s a challenge at the end that would be good to take on especially this time if year.

How do you do the dance of living fully and out loud while also trusting yourself to do the work of your business...without faltering?
How can you tap into your soul self, with intention, to serve in a way that matches your inner core?
Understanding how to trust yourself comes from knowing your values, and the things about you that are the core of your existence as a human and as a woman.
By opening yourself up to what's needed for your own evolution. And that begins with harnessing deep inner self-trust.
In today's episode, I share ways to bring in that trust so you consistently stay true to yourself in business despite the challenges that arise.

You probably don’t regularly as yourself the question, what makes you…YOU.
Makes sense because your attention needs to remain on your business and not some esoteric, random feeling that has nothing to do with your work. Right?
WRONG.
Who you are, the things about you that are specific to you and your very essence has EVERYTHING to do with your business. Because it affects how you show up, how you do what you do , the decisions you make and the things you allow.
That last one, what you allow, is especially important because that one is all about boundaries and when you’re unsure or don’t feel confident enough about who you are at your core, you only working from surface level you.
And that is not good for you or your business. Your business deserves the whole of you to continually show up so your right fit clients connect with you to bring in that consistent income.
In today’s episode I share why it’s important to get that clarity about what your you-ness is about, plus some insight about myself that changed the game for me in business.

The Power of Choice is a mighty one.
One that, more times than not, is rooted in the inability to let go.
Choosing means being willing to release one for the other. But therein lies the rub….how to make the perfect choice without guilt and shame and, most definitely, self-judgement seeping into colour our decision.
But, that thinking right there is why making choices is so hard.
We tend to be unable to make choices because we errantly don't believe we have that power or worry that choosing the “wrong” thing will leave us hanging with regret coming in soon behind that.
In today’s episode, I share the opposite of this, what choices can bring on for you when and why learning to let go is usually a good place to start.

“There is much to be said about taking the time to feel, think, reflect and review. To pause…” ~ Kemi Nekvapil
Most business owners, myself included, considered taking a break a wrong-footed move to make. How could I grow my business if I’m not there doing the work?
But taking a break, whether it be for a couple of hours, for a day, for a few weeks or longer could be the best thing you can do for your business. especially, your health.
And I mean a real break where your work as a subject, a thought or an action doesn’t come into play at all.
Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve been exploring the 1st two in the Power Series of 4 different mindsets that affect us as we transition into entrepreneurship.
▪︎The Power of Truth
▪︎The Power of Inner Work
▪︎The Power of Pressing Pause
▪︎The Power of Choice & Letting Go
Each one has the ability to affect our mindset, about who we think we are and our ability to effectively walk our entrepreneurial paths. is about why you need to consider a pause as a viable and, sometimes, necessary and strategic tool in the running of your business.
Today’s episode is The Power of Pressing Pause…why you need to consider a pause as a viable and, sometimes, necessary and strategic tool in the running of your business.
Plus, I’ll share some of my own insights into why my own self-induced pause was necessary and the results I gained from taking a break.

One of the things I fervently believe is that we women have an innate power that, for quite a few who enter the entrepreneurial arena, either don’t know it exists within them already or are unable to access.
And this is where inner work comes into play, to help us, to help you harness that power.
Deep inner work is a journey of excavation that leads to an increase in intentional self-awareness.
And it’s through this lens of self-awareness that brings this innate power we all hold light, to conscious knowledge.
For a lot of us, our power is shrouded by negative self-talk, massive self-doubt and low self-confidence and an inability to see past the mindset muck.
I’ve been on a mission to find out from women why it’s so hard for them to access this power and have heard a myriad of reasons why they say they remain stuck and unable to harness that internal power more effectively.
In this episode I share a few of these mindset struggles, maybe you’ll recognize yourself in them, plus I’ll offer some simple and practical ways to help you move through them.

How can you resist the urge to stay comfortably embedded in perfection in all you think and do?
Especially when you’re in the middle of a transition—moving from one place to a better one, from a flawed mindset to a different more positive outlook; from one stage in life to another that is more focused and grounding?
How can you stay in your TRUTH? How can you remain focused as you work in your business It’s not an easy feat by far.
Over the next couple of weeks on the podcast, starting with today’s episode, I’ll be exploring 4 different mindsets that affect us as we transition into our 2nd stage of life and into business ownership.
▪︎The Power of Truth
▪︎The Power of Inner Work
▪︎The Power of Pressing Pause
▪︎The Power of Choice & Letting Go
Each one has the ability to affect our mindset, about who we think we are and our ability to effectively walk our entrepreneurial paths.

Studies conducted by researchers at the Kauffman Foundation state that the “highest rate of entrepreneurial activity belongs to the 55-64 age group”. In addition, they report that 67% of business owners over 50 report they are making a profit.
Which makes the line in Kerrie Hannon’s book, Never too Old To Get Rich, so true….“when it comes to launching a successful business, youth is not the magic elixir”.
Our success as mid-life entrepreneurs is due to many factors including having more management, marketing, financial exposure and experience plus, a greater depth of industry knowledge and work/life experience.
But what does it take to be successful?
And how do we make the shift that requires us to be productive differently, in a way that enhances the work we do as entrepreneurs as we grow this entity we’ve created?
In today’s episode, I share 7 simple, not-normally-thought-of steps to take that have you walking the path of entrepreneurship in your 2nd stage of life with more ease and FLOW to help you achieve the desired goals you set way back when for your business.

For the majority of us business owners, we took the leap into entrepreneurship to offer our knowledge, to be of service, and to help others, because we saw a need.
But our brains are really good at coming up with negative stories about who we are and what we’re capable or, most likely, incapable of and it’s those thoughts that interfere with us showing up to be of service.
Transitions or pivoting in a new-to-you direction brings all the messy, uncomfortable feelings to the forefront.

This journey we take in entrepreneurship can be like walking down a path of nails sometimes trying to manoeuvre ourselves through all the morass to get to the good times.
Uncertainty and disbelief lead to constant self-doubt and needless anxiety about whether we're doing this biz thing well enough to sustain ourselves, far less bring in a profit.

Will they believe in me enough to want to become my customer or my client?

We make choices that affect not only our personal lives but what happens in our business as well from these external sources.
What if instead you listened more and acted from your internal compass? And what if our internal compass was coloured a vibrant and lively RED?

Is your enough-ness tank forever on low, so much so, that you, unintentionally or otherwise, do the things that keep you in that low state?
Does thinking about the big picture send your brain into an overdrive hyper state where too many thoughts come in at the same time bombarding your nervous system?
In today’s episode, I talk about a subject that I’ve wanted to address ever since starting the podcast: the thought pattern or habit that forms when results always seem to fall short of one’s expectations, when being addicted to not your own enough-ness becomes the norm.
Plus, I’ll share a few ways to extricate yourself from that space and heed the warning signs that preempt it to take over again.
For the month of July (as of this recording) I'll be offering 12 complimentary 60-min coaching sessions for women in business who are finding it hard to stay focused enough to make progress because daily distractions have become the norm. Three things to note about these calls before you book:
1. These calls are usually 30 minutes in length. The longer 60-minute call will give us an opportunity to dig deeper into what's coming up for you.
2. These calls are strictly coaching calls. There will be no solicitation to work with me at the end.
3. You must not have previously had a free call with me to sign up for these sessions. Book your appointment here.

When the inability to meet our productive expectations falls short of our goals, we have a tendency to beat ourselves up, to scourge and demean the very essence of our being.
This cycle of mental self-flagellation piles on more stress which leads to more uncertainty about our overall abilities. And, before you know it, our self-worth takes another ding.
This stress cycle then works to hinder our ability to stay on task and be as productive as we need to be to stay on task.
One main reason for this is that we don't regularly take into consideration how vulnerable we’re allowing ourselves to be when we’re not as productive as we think we should be.
In today’s episode, I share how our vulnerability is inextricably intertwined with our ability to be as productive as we can.

Productivity.
Why do you need to pay attention to yours in business?
And what does it have to do with your energy— your get-up-and-go, your zest, your initiative?
Our energy greatly affects our ability to produce results when we are performing a task—like writing a weekly newsletter or creating a proposal for a client.
How can you step up to the plate to be more dynamic in your work and still stay true to who you are as a woman in business and to your way of operating?
In this, the 3rd in the series on Productivity in Business, I dive into what it means to be productive, where the heck this idea of work hard, then harder still came from and I'll share my take on productivity in the framework of cycles of energy.
I’ll also tell you about the 4 essential elements or components you need to implement to help you be more productively efficient.

Midlife Schmidlife Podcast Episode (w/ Liz Applegate)
Today's episode is the first in a limited series centred around Productivity...women and productivity to be exact.
There was no productivity model demonstrated to women who chose to go into business way back when, so we adopted the masculine way of operating which is push, hustle, grind. Repeat.
In this series I'll speak about:
— how women bring themselves to their work.
— how we show up in our many spaces, on and offline.
— how to be productive in a way that fits how we operate.
— and how to maximize and sustain our energy.
One of the things that greatly affect our productivity, our productive FLOW, is our energy and, subsequently, our energy leaks. Listen in for ways to squash your energy leaks and why it's important to be aware of how we as women expend our energy.

I don't generally have such strong verbiage about a coaching term but this one truly gets my goat.
Yes, there are things we believe about ourselves that limit our actions, so the word makes sense, BUT there’s something about it that does not sit right with me.

Mindset fumbles and missteps happen when you commit more to your doubt than to your truths.
And as, entrepreneurs, working with endless doubt gets in the way of profitable success.
When I first described what this podcast will be about and why I felt a need to jump into the fray, it was because I wasn’t seeing enough attention being paid to doing the deep inner work we need to do as entrepreneurs, not just have discussions that reach only surface level.
I believe that transformation, the kind that changes the game for us and our business, requires us to go there, so we can show up as our best, most authentic selves in this season of our lives.
In today’s episode, I’ll be going all-in on mindset—yours, mine, theirs, everybody's, the mindset that frames our outlook, our challenges, our opportunities, our expectations and, our beliefs.

Quote by Sarah K. Peck
How the heck can we call ourselves entrepreneurs if we can’t even stay on task or manage our workweek efficiently enough? And more importantly, what do we make it mean about ourselves, our value and our effectiveness in our business and to those we serve?
As women in our 2nd stage of life, we still quite frequently measure our value against our output. We've been sold on the supposition that what we do and how we do it is in direct correlation to our worthiness as females, which then dictates any rewards due.
In today’s episode, I talk about unhooking our worthiness from our productivity, decoupling our perceived ability to be successful from our capacity to do the work.

If given a chance we will accept all the things, regardless of whether we need them or they are is useful to us. This is our default.
And, it’s also how clutter accumulation begins.
In today’s episode, I’ll share with you one of the most important tools you can have in your arsenal to counter the overwhelm that can happen when clutter enters the picture.
It will help you declutter your mind—your mental spaces—so it frees you to be more present in your business.

Bravery needs no fanfare but it does require you to set an intention or two and, more importantly, commit to trusting yourself, even just for that one moment you choose to go outside your comfort zone and into possibility and self-expansion.
In today's episode, I want to share one of the most profound moments in my life that allowed me to take one huge step closer to the person I knew I could be, the woman who shows up today in life and in my business. My story of brave is not necessarily steeped in fighting warrior spirit but more of a quiet awakening to the person I was becoming.
Today I want you to listen and then ask yourself...
In what places can you put on your brave cape, release your own self-imposed barriers to show up as your authentic self more often?

Do you like scavenger hunts? How about one where you're the only participant? The type of scavenger hunt I'm talking about is one where you won't be gathering tangible items, but instead information to help you clear up your mind gunk as you work in your business.
There's a phrase we all automatically use to distract, sideswipe or derail us from further action. I call it the "I don't know" phenomenon. In this episode, I'll share how it affects how we work + offer solutions in the form of a scavenger hunt to help decipher what's going on and ways to minimize its effects on you.
