Kristen Campbell shares another staggering statistic that 50% of millennials don't have a single close relationship with someone outside their family. We talk about the excuse of "politics" as a way to disconnect when faced with uncomfortable truths, and how psychological safe space is essential to creating christian communities that welcome in everyone, whether believing or unbelieving.
In the first part of our convo with Kristen Campbell, we talk about Edge Mentoring, whole person development, mentorship and the crisis of loneliness in America and around the world. Kirsten shares her heart for reaching people where they're at and creating psychological safe space for them to grow and thrive. She also shares staggering statistics about the Church and how the culture in America views us.
We are finally, after a bit of a break, kicking off season two of You Will Disagree!
Episode one drops next Tuesday, March 14th, 2023!
We conclude our conversation with Emmanuel "Manny" Figueroa by talking about mental health issues for Law Enforcement, First Responders, and in the Church. Manny talks through the tough position pastors are in today and how similar of a situation it is to being a first responder in todays world. He shares his heart for the church, pastors, and those who have "turned down the volume of the Holy Spirit's voice."
Manny starts by sharing about his life, how he came to follow Jesus and the events that shaped him and lead him to pursuing a career in law-enforcement. He shares stories that most people never experience and leads us toward being gracious in the way we see others. Giving people the benefit of the doubt, mental health, and working our jobs for the sake of the cross are among a few of the things we touch on in this first part of our two episode conversation.
In the concluding episode with Yvette, we talk about a lot of issues such as: women in teaching roles, how to respond to people in the LGBTQ+ community, and how we should engage with the Bible. The conversation closes with a call toward the ultimate calling for a follower of Jesus.... after a sometimes difficult, but encouraging three part discussion, I'm happy we landed the plane on the greatest commandment.
After hearing Yvette's personal testimony, as a woman in the Church, in the last episode, she continues the conversation by walking us through what she believes the Bible communicates about women. We work through the story of Noah and what that story illustrates to us about the equality of men and women. In the second half of our conversation, we camp out for most of the conversation on... JESUS! Yvette leads us through some stories of Jesus interacting with women and talks through how these stories should shape the way we see women in relation to men, the Church, and our Christian communities.
In the beginning of a three part conversation with Yvette, she shares her personal story of dealing with abuse in the church. We talk about emotional, spiritual, and physical abuse and what it was like for her as a woman, who didn't have a voice in her church, trying to get her pastor and elders to hear, believe and value her. She emphasizes that “The church should be somewhere that is very safe and believes women, supports women and takes care of women.” She shares what it's like to be a woman in a church that didn't value the hearts and gifts and perspectives of women, and why giving too much grace to abusive pastors can become dangerous for the Church and the pastors themselves.
In the second part of my conversation with Matt, we talk about the dangers with the church dictating morality to the United States, he shares what it's like to be a pastor at a time when the church is increasingly divided, and we wrestle with what the current "brand" of Christianity in the U.S.

It's easy to think that the way we do church is THE way to do Church. In the first part of my conversation with Pastor Matt Reichard, we discuss what it was like for him and his family to live in Haiti as medical missionaries and serve the church there. We talk about what the Church in the United States can learn from the global communities of Jesus around the world, and how easily our culture can become dangerously intertwined with our faith.
