In today's episode, we are concluding our study of Jonah together! In this final portion of Jonah, we see God provide comfort, and teach Jonah a lesson about when comfort is taken from us. God knows us deeply, and He knew the WHOLE time before He even called Jonah, exactly how He would use Jonah. As we round out this powerful study together, we are reminded time and time again that God is gracious and merciful, even towards the most wicked of hearts.

Valentine's Day is just around the corner, and for a lot of people, this is a sweet holiday, and for many others, they dread it. In today's episode, Megan wants to talk about what love is. There are so many common misconceptions about the idea of what true love is in our world. There is a REAL, unconditional love that God so freely offers to us, and is so much more valuable than the world's definition of love. Megan is going to be discussing what God's love looks like from Him to us and in turn, what His love looks like from us to those around us.

Today Megan is continuing our study into Jonah with chapter 3 verses 6-10. From these verses, we learn that God can move the heart of ANYONE, and He can give mercy to every single person if they turn to Him. Those who put their trust in God will NOT be put to shame. We see the people of Nineveh repenting, not even knowing if God will show mercy. How much more should we obey God out of the thankful heart knowing we are forgiven and saved?

Why we should even surrender? What does it mean to fully surrender to Christ? In today's episode, Megan talks about the lack of control we have in our own lives, but we have the ability to pass off control to Someone who knows our heart, desires and plans. That can be a RELIEF. Megan discusses praying for what to surrender, and how to create an attitude towards wanting to surrender to Jesus, even when you don't feel like it.

Today we are continuing our study into Jonah with Jonah 3:1-5. In this chapter, Jonah is called to call out the Ninevites on their sin so that they can repent. Although it was a scary step, Jonah took this step of obedience. In these verses, we learn that God is not intimated by anything - he knows who He is, and no one or nothing is too great for God. Sometimes we get intimated to step out in obedience, but God is never afraid. Jonah is faithful to follow what God has asked of Him, no matter how big or scary it was.

Today Megan is sitting down with Laura Lindahl. Laura is the founder of True Strength Collective, a business that teaches women how to approach their bodies from a place that honors the Lord. True Strength Collective empowers women to think less about their physical body and insecurities and a lot more about God and how their bodies can ultimately be used to serve Him. Megan and Laura talk about how as a culture women easily struggle with confidence, understanding God's character and how that can help with confidence, wrong and right sources of confidence and so much more. Ultimately, Laura empowers us with the idea that true Confidence with body image and across the board can be found in God and His character.

As we enter the Christmas season, which can be so sweet, it can also be a hard time for many of us. It can bring hard reminders, heart ache, sweet but tough memories. Today we are going to talk about comfort and joy for those of us who Christmas might be hard for this year.

I just want to encourage you with a ton of Bible verses about Jesus, our Savior who is also our Comforter, who weeps with us, who IS with us, Immanuel, who understands us. We’ll talk about comfort and joy but even more notably the God who gives us that comfort and joy.

Our God who came down to earth, who’s birth we celebrate, is not far and He knows our hearts, our sorrow, our needs so intimately. And today I want to encourage you with that. Because truly, there are no perfect words. I don’t know what you’re carrying. But I do know the One who does know and the One who is, as we’ll read, the God of all comfort. And so in this episode, I just want to bring you to Him, to give you space to fall at His feet, and to gently encourage you to stay there

*There is no special announcement today, as mentioned on last Thursday's podcast

Today we are wrapping up our reading study into 2 & 3 John. In these chapters, we see the example of individuals in the church. What does it mean to be a person of God in the body of Christ? How can we promote truth and love as believers?

We see in these chapters that truth is KEY and love involves truth. This doesn't mean we should use love as an excuse to tolerate false, deceptive teachings. We aren't told to hate either, but we should not excuse or get involved with false teachers. How can we distinguish ourselves as believers? Let's dive in.

Today, we are learning that we are called to LOVE but not always called to ACCEPT. How can learn to balance this as Christians living in this world?

We learn that we are never told to just accept all things, all ideologies, all things – especially those that go against God or are of the world. Because we are from God as believers, we are HIS and He is OURS. This means that our spirit is now from God because His spirit lives within us. Let’s continue our study into 1 John and focusing on chapters 4 and 5 to dive into how we can love those around us, but not accept the things that aren’t of Jesus.

Today is She Lives Purposefully's 100th EPISODE. SO INCREDIBLE. We take a look back over some highlights from the past 100 episodes, where the podcast is now (a TOP Religion and Spirituality Podcast on Spotify), and we dive into how as believers we can live out our purpose. What does it look like to have a purpose? What does living purposefully look like practically? We explore these questions and more by diving into Ephesians 2:10, and learn who He called us to be, and what He thinks of us. We are His work of art. We were created in Christ Jesus FOR good works. This means you weren’t created not just to merely exist, but for a reason and for a purpose for HIM. We are called to live those good works out. But what exactly are those good works and how can we live them out?

How can I embrace the truth that God is next level love?

We are diving into 1 John 3:1-14 today, and it is our first time on the podcast going through an entire chapter at once! In this chapter, we learn that God the Father bestowed SUCH LOVE on us that He adopted us – you and me. He is not ashamed of us. He knows us inside and out, past, present and future, and He chose to call us children. How beautiful is that truth?!

Hoping in Jesus is a purifying process. Let’s live in the hope of purification. Think about it, we have this hope, this higher call, and if we live expectantly for that, we’ll choose to live differently now than we would if the future seemed hopeless and without any purpose or benefit. So often we connect believing and righteousness or believing and good deeds or believing and morals, which are important. But Jesus fulfilled the law, and what goes hand in hand with believing here is actually LOVE. God abides in you and you in Him as you keep His commands – one of which is love.

In today's episode, we are diving into verses 18-29 of 1 John 2. In these verses, there is a heavy message: to be on guard. But what exactly does that mean?

To be on guard, we have to know the days we live in and the truth of what is coming and what is already in our midst. There is an anti-Christ in the last days. Friends, if back when this was written was the last hour, how much more time is there now? How much more should we be living like it? Because He can indeed return at any time.

You will leave this episode asking yourself a vital question as a believer: How can we be on guard in this time?

Is thankfulness even important? As Thanksgiving approaches, I thought it would be SO timely to discuss the power of thankfulness, and how to walk in a place of thankfulness. We learn that all throughout Scripture, our thankfulness is rooted in MORE than just thankfulness itself. A heart full of thankfulness is very often tied to the One who GIVES us something to be thankful for. We are thankful for what we have and what's been done not by chance but by He who grants those things.

Even with knowing the power of a thankful heart, how do we walk in that, and how do we live that out?

In today's episode, we are going to be discussing two major questions: What do I love? Why do I love? In our continuation in our study of 1 John 1, we learn that John is writing to people, children, young men and fathers, in the faith to not love the world but to love people... but why?

These verses are convicting because they state that as believers, we cannot love the Father and love the things of the world which are not from God. The things of this world are the opposite of Him and what He wants for us. They are passing away, along with the whole world. But GOD, His will and whoever does it, will abide forever. Let's dive into these verses together to learn how to love others and God, but not the fleeting things of this world.

Do you struggle with allowing yourself to embrace your emotions, especially when they are negative? It can be difficult to accept difficult or negative emotions that we ALL feel from time to time. Today Megan Edmonds is sitting down with Mac and Kenz, owners of For the Girl. Mac and Kenz recently wrote a Bible study titled "In My Feels" targeted for college women. Mac and Kenz discuss that feelings are an INCREDIBLE gift when you learn to process them and use them for good. Oftentimes, we can allow our feelings to tell us who we are rather than allowing God to tell us who we are. However, scripture is laced with emotions. In the Bible, you will find Jesus feeling sad and angry. Jesus wasn't embarrassed by these feelings, but was rather embracing those emotions and using them for his mission. Being able to admit and recognize your emotions rather than running away from them is a gift from the Lord.

Today we are continuing our study in 1 John 2 with a focus on verses 1-11. As believers, we are called to walk in LIGHT, just as Jesus walked. We all fall short and sin, but even if we do we can be at peace knowing that if we sin, we can go to the Father for forgiveness and cleansing.

In verses 7-11, we discuss the duo of love and light. It is no new commandment to love. Loving others well is one of the most important things we can do as Christians. How can we love people better today? Who are people you are struggling to love? How does knowing that Jesus loves that person and loves you help you to love others? Let's dive into these questions and more!

Can we have hope when our world or it feels like THE world falls apart? Today Carli Milacci, an author, leader and friend of Megan's, is joining Megan Edmonds to discuss how we can have hope or claim when everything around us feels like it's crashing down. Carli Milacci is the author of the new novel Recruit of Talionis, a Young Adult Sci-Fi Dystopian Novel, about a teen girl who gets recruited and forced into the life of a soldier. The novel details her journey as she searches for hope in a fallen dystopian society.

Megan and Carli discuss the ways in which the message of Carli's novel is to have hope and encouragement in dark or difficult situations. Whether you are finding yourself in a dry, hopeless, or lonely season, this episode is for you.

Reading so many words that actually came true, some hundreds of years later, confirmed the character of God for me. As a grieving mom, I needed assurance that God will come through on His promises."

Do you want more of God's rest? On today's podcast episode on the She Lives Purposefully podcast, I talk about how to find God's rest based on different Bible verses. This was a question asked by the @shelivespurpoesfully Instagram community and I thought it was so important because, honestly, it's something I'm trying to learn.

Is it ok to stop the go-go-go and just rest? The answer is a BIG YES. We need rest. And our rest comes from the Lord. He can even grant a kind of rest that a full 8 hours of sleep can't beat (although good sleep, as we'll see, is important).

Have you prayed and gotten a "no" from God? Or maybe a "not yet" or what feels like silence?

It’s a hard place to be, because if you're encountering God’s "no" that means that you have asked Him for something that you did want, that you thought might be a good thing, maybe even a God-thing. And when the desires of your heart are there, it’s hard to be turned down.

On this episode of the She Lives Purposefully podcast, Megan talks about dealing, having peace with and even being thankful for and joyful with God's "no."

She uses Bible verses and truths to help us be thankful for what God says in our lives.

Let's dive into God's heart for us and how that can be an encouragement to us when He says, "no."

Purpose is SUCH a poppin’ topic in our culture – especially Christian culture.

But I think a BIG MISCONCEPTION about purpose is that it’s about US and OUR LIVES.

It involves us and God blesses us and He has good for us but .... mic drop!! Our purpose isn’t about us.

This question is truly summed up to or broken down to: is anything true? Because if something is true, that is absolute and if nothing is true then what are we here for? Why do we exist? What are we living for?

I'm going into one of my favorite topics, and I'm GETTING HYPE, and also very vulnerable.

I'm talking about doubts, why I believe what I believe and if there is a such thing as absolute truth.

It’s been a hard season of news, especially lately it just feels like it’s one thing after another. We’re in this weird state of an inundation of information and misinformation and opinions, of sadness, anxiety and cancel culture.

So HOW do we handle the news as Christians? Is there a right way to take it in?

I’m sure there’s countless right answers to this but I want to talk about what I think are biblical thoughts. I believe the Bible is God’s Word making it timeless which means its truths last forever and no matter what.

So here we go, I am going to break this episode into HOW NOT TO handle the news and HOW TO handle the news.

We think of purpose oftentimes as this big, vague, mysterious idea of purpose.

How can I walk in God’s purpose for you when you don’t know what that is?

What are his big grand plans for my life and what if I miss them.

While yes, He does have plans for your life, but VERY rarely will He even give us a glimpse into what that is. More often than not, to find out how to walk in God’s purpose for our lives, God calls us to simply walk with Him.

And in simply walking with Him, He will guide us to those bigger things we call our purpose or things of His purpose.

If you’ve ever felt like you are just stuck in sin, maybe it’s an addiction you can’t get free from or an action you just KEEP taking even though you feel convicted, maybe you can’t stop gossiping or lying or you’re ridden with envy and bitterness. To be alive in this world is to be tempted and fall to sin. It’s inevitable. And as a Christian we are told that we can be free from it, that Christ saved us from death and sin, BUT then we think to ourselves — but I haven’t stopped sinning? Or I just CANNOT BREAK FREE from this one sin that seems to OWN me.

So today, we’re talking about HOW to break free from sin. We’re going to go through some verses about freedom from sin, and the very relatable feeling chained to sin and then dive into practically how to actually break free.

This episode is JAM PACKED with truth. It’s an episode I believe at some point in our lives we may all need. This episode is not only going to be encouraging but challenging because we ALL sin.

I want you to know I have prayed over YOU that Jesus would speak to YOU today. So let’s dive in.

The topic of singleness is very important because in culture at large and even Christian culture we really emphasize the glory of marriage and being in a relationship and hold it up almost as a virtue if you will. It’s something we see as a level-up or something we graduate to, even thinking sometimes (I AM GUILTY) that the season of singleness Is a punishment or lesson from God and until I learn the lesson I will be single.

But singleness is not a punishment, it’s not a level down and it’s not a less-than status. So today on the podcast we are talking about how to live out your singleness and NOT SITTING IN SINGLENESS.

HOW could God make all things work together for God for me in this situation?

I have been learning over the years more and more that how we start our day CAN have a huge impact on the rest of our day, so I decided it was time to make sure my start of the day would set me up for a day that was focused better on Jesus.

So how do I know God’s will for my life? Chat with Megan on the podcast today about THIS VERY TOPIC. And be encouraged, God wants to lead you.

How can I hear from God? There’s so many reasons we’d want to hear - just to communicate with Him, maybe we’re looking for answers to questions to doubts, maybe we need guidance for next steps. Whatever the reason, a beautiful truth we can know is that God WANTS to communicate with us. In Jeremiah 33:3 God says, “call to me and I will answer you.”

Listen as Megan has a purposeful chat about 3 ways to hear from God.

For the Psalm 23 study: https://www.shelivespurposefully.com/products/shop/Psalm-23-Study-p254246016

Ever find yourself anxious when things are all out of control? when you don’t know what will happen next? when it feels like your entire world just fell apart? or when it seems like there’s no answers for how to move forward?

I realized recently that I struggle with trust & releasing control to Jesus .

& honestly, psalm 23 is THE chapter of the Bible that is helping me conquer that.

I think we can really believe that we can trust and accept the idea that we can release control and that it’s OK to and even BETTER to, when we know the One we are trusting and giving control to.

He shows us that He is good, He is loving, He cares and He is capable.

In Psalm 23, we begin to see our role as the sheep and Him as the Shepherd and realize we CAN give Him control.

It also is a relief because I think at least for me in all my attempt to control, I’ve realized I have no control.

But when I give Him control I can trust that whatever happens, He's in control.

& He’s proven himself more than trustworthy to take it – life, struggles, control – off of our hands.

College is known to be the time to spread your wings and expand your horizons. It's also a time that infamously worries the church and often parents and friends for its off-to-college members. But why? Because it also rushes in a way of new experiences and choices and acts and ideas - many of which are not pleasing to the Lord.

Megan and her friend Julia chat about college, why it's not an excuse to do what you want, why following Jesus with your whole heart and with your actions in college is not restraining but freeing, how to stand firm in your faith in this time and the MAJOR gift of grace that God bestows on us if (and when) we disobey.

I asked our Instagram community what they struggled with and one response we got was Bible reading... and trust me, I know many of us can relate.

Has Bible reading ever felt empty? or like just something to check off the checklist for today? Maybe it's been a struggle to get more out of it or even have the desire to read and spend time with Jesus.

I (Megan) dive into my daily Bible reading set up that was a game changer for my walk with the Lord AND share 3 extra helpful guides to make sure we're allowing Jesus to speak to us even more in our time with Him.
