Human Performance Podcast By GoPrimal: Recent Episodes

adri

We are very excited to launch our first Podcast that will cover many topics about Human Performance and how to reach your full potential. Our podcast will be conducted by two of our founders, Adri and Basti. They will be interviewing relevant people and extracting technical information from them. _ "Many podcasts are great at providing information, but they never help others to actually take actions and put this information in action. We want to go one step forward and provide weekly challenges to people, so they can utilise this information". Basti Rieder.

In this episode we go over a few drills that you can do to properly use the right muscles and organs to improve your breathing. Breathing can have limitless benefits for stress, health and sport performance, but most of us use the breathing muscles in the wrong way. Here is a short example:  Take four full big breaths using your diafragm.  At the top of the 4th inhale (fill your lungs as much as possible), start a timer.   Then , try to exhale as slowly as possible (from your nose).  Stretch out the exhale for as long as possible.Try to close your eyes so that you can feel more relaxed.  Stop the timer when your air runs out or you feel the need to inhale

Let's talk CO2 tolerance during intense exercise. Breathwork and CO2 tolerance have started to gain attention not only for improving physical performance but also for enhancing mental improvement. Early in the 90s the focus for improving these parameters was   on increasing an athlete’s VO2 max – the maximal amount of oxygen that an individual can use. However, it was only in 2016 that CO2 tolerance and the benefits of CO2 became apparent. - Why is CO2 good for you? Carbon dioxide shouldn't be harmful; the amount of it is. Very much like lactate acid, it is needed for the body, but an excess can be detrimental. The way that the body detects the amount of CO2 is vital for the respiratory system to work. Levels of CO2 will inform the brain that there is a need to breathe in more air. By using different breathing techniques when training and breath-hold techniques, we can increase tolerance to CO2. COach Basti goes over a few of these points during the next 2 episodes. For more information about our products , please check www.goprimal.eu

Breathing habits have changed dramatically during the last years. People are not able to breath through their nose as they used to do. This changes can affect your stress levels, performance but also the shape of your face.   Coach basti provides a few easy drills to do, similar to the Box Breathing technique using by the Navy Seals to reduce their stress levels. After our Breathing intro, here is the first part on how to optimise your breathing when training.  First, we should learn how to breath in a calm situation, not going directly into a workout or lifting session .  Second, understand what type of athlete you are, do you need much time to properly warm up or you are the type of athlete that jump into a heavy barbell right away.  Based on this, you should use these two different drills in your warm up.

First episode covering one of the most underestimated training methods to improve performance: BREATHING.  By perfecting breathing, we improve the exchange of 02 and CO2, allowing our muscles and our heart beat to recover faster and work more efficiently.

First part, introducing basic concepts on breathing while training(1RM max vs reps for quality), while ice bathing and when trying to recover in the middle of a WOD.  The way we breath also affect the way we position ourselves when starting a movement or when we do many reps.

Breathing techniques have been studied for many years, many different "schools" have their own techniques, from Gracie to Win Hof, passing through Jocko Willink.

Pain management treatment for modern medicine is always focused on putting a patch to the pain, instead of looking at the root of the problem, many physicians look at just the top of the iceberg and treat the isolated pain, instead of finding the cause of it and finding ways to eliminate the cause of the pain.   Pain is just the expression of the brain to a malfunction movement pattern, treating the pain by itself will never cure what is causing it.

Pain and lack of mobility is often treated as a muscular o tendon impairment/issue. But activating, stretching, lacking and flossing our nerve system could also be very beneficial for a pain free mobility.  Today's podcast we go over some basic drills for upper body nerve mobilization.

How can you gain more mobility? There is a part of the brain that is in charge of the muscle extension and some mobility patterns.

With a proper impairment and activation of this part of the brain, your mobility can be compromised and very difficult to improve even with many mobility accessory work that you do.

Check out this simple drills that coach Basti is sharing with us in this new episode of our podcast.

CN 5 Trigeminal Nerve - Sensory vibration in the face, biting on one side

CN 7 facial nerve - using the muscle of the face

CN 8 Vestibulo-Cochlear Nerve - Balance Drills

Some trainers focus in correcting the movement pattern by changing the motor movement, mobility but neuro athletic training goes to the root of the problem, the brain and how the signal is been transmitted and received by the muscles.

Here you can find a few exercises to improve flexibility and other movement impairments.

Pencil push up x4-6 with 3sec hold close to the eyes-  5 times a day

Vertical eye Saccade (eye jumps)

Sometimes is better to focus on the real origin of the problem or pain, instead of putting a patch on it and treat the pain by itself.
