Historical Development in New England: Recent Episodes

Exploring the different ways that historical sites and cities in New England have developed over time, we have traveled to these places and observed the development of them from when they were settled, to how they are today. We think about how different places have developed and why they may be different from each other, with similarities between places but also major differences depending on the setting and events that may have taken place in the location.
This week we traveled back down to Mass again to visit the Old Sturbridge Village in, well, Sturbridge. This is a bit of an anomaly for the places we have visited so far, for the village focuses on the development of the area in a very specific part of history being around 1790-1830. It was interesting to see the way in which this area was developed and preserved as opposed to some other places we have been.
This week we traveled South to MA from NH, looking to explore the historical development of Salem Mass using their many museums and historic sites, preserved all throughout history and used as publicity for them even to today. It was a fun trip and we learned a lot about how Salem developed along with why they did in these ways.
This week, we traveled from Concord up to Enfield Shaker Village in NH to explore it and look at the ways it developed differently from Portsmouth. The Shakers did not have a very ordinary way of life so looking at the way in which they developed was really interesting to us.
For our first week, we traveled to Portsmouth to observe different aspects of its development, including Strawberry Banke, the Black Heritage Trail, and its port which has been important throughout history.
