A collection of thoughts, anecdotes, and reflections on themes from our favorite Scriptures and our adventures in the world of video gaming!
When it comes to linear game experiences that feature binary decisions, there are certainly titles in which there is only ONE way to succeed and a plethora of ways to fail. But as a gamer who frequently plays open-world adventures, the sheer volume of choices tends to mean that nobody will play the same game in the exact same way. While that is part of the “charm” of such games, it also opens up the entirely unwanted and undesired realm of what I call “game-splaining”… the art of someone telling me (typically in an unsolicited and unwanted manner) how I should have chosen to play MY version of the game with MY personally developed character based on THEIR personal experience with the same game from an entirely different perspective.
Join us as we explore the topic of the unwanted and unhelpful “game-splaining” we experience as well as other forms of “splaining” that show up both in our video games and our real world ALL the time. There is one and only one way to the Father, but His path for each of us to serve Him on this planet is as diverse as the battlefields we are being sent to occupy until He calls us home. He gives each of us special and unique gifts to accomplish the missions He has placed us on, and because of this we will all “play this game” differently... each of us following the path specifically designed by the Lord for both the recipient as well as their intended impact on this planet.
Join us as we explore a unique challenge when picking up Star Wars: Jedi Survivor… not in the game itself, but in the amount of STORAGE the game requires to install. And along the way we will share what we learned about making room for the Lord in our lives so we can enjoy the BEST things… even if that means some “good” things might have to give up some of their space on our “hard drives” :)
!!!SPOILER ALERT!!! One of the longest running questions that Star Wars fans across the galaxy were asking since the debut of Grogu (or Baby Yoda if you refuse to accept his legal name) was finally answered… and in a manner nobody was expecting. It was neither luck nor skill that saved young Grogu… it was Jar Jar all along. Fine, fine… to be fair it was not ACTUALLY Jar Jar, Binks but it IS the actor who portrayed the notorious Gungan character in the Star Wars prequel movies, Ahmed Best.
Join us as we explore the one of the most divisive and "cringey" characters in Star Wars history and share that we have a lot more in common with Jar Jar than we would prefer to admit... and find that many of our Biblical heroes share the same story of being weird, awkward misfits with problematic pasts and moments of “cringe” they would love to erase from history. But our Heavenly Father specializes in using those who are considered unimportant, unwanted, and unappreciated by society’s standards to do the unexpected, using those vessels the world considers weak and foolish to confound the wise, overwhelm the strong, and change the world.
The surge in popularity of class-based games such as Overwatch and Apex Legends and the continuing dominance of titles like Team Fortress and League of Legends has brought the age-old concept of building a perfect team into the limelight… these class-based games allow participants to choose roles that are better suited to their play style as tank-like warriors, range-focused fighters, nimble assassins, and more. Every great squad should demonstrate a balanced approach in their loadouts, and within all of the different character classes, the most essential loadout is often the one that has the lowest number of volunteers… the HEALERS.
Join us as we explore the role of a “healer”... a calling that means putting the needs of others ahead of our own, helping those who have made decisions we don’t agree with, and picking up those who have fallen in battle without judgment. We are His vessels of mercy... healers who have been given the ministry of reconciliation, acting as the physical hands and arms who bring other fallen and injured souls back into harmony with the Father.

After seeing the Super Mario Bros. Movie achieve over 1.3 BILLION dollars in box office money, it is safe to say that the long-running challenge of turning video games into successful movies has been broken by icons such as Sonic and Mario in their respective cinematic adventures. The world of the Mushroom Kingdom was so successfully translated to the silver screen that it will take multiple viewings to catch all the visual Easter eggs and musical cues that paid homage to pretty much every iteration of Mario’s history. But the lead up to this release was anything but smooth… while the first trailer was warmly embraced by every Nintendo fan who has every picked up a controller, the reception was decidedly less enthusiastic when Mario spoke through the voice of Chris Pratt for the first time WITHOUT his iconic voice or accent. “Mamma Mia” indeed…
Join us for an exploration of a "common" problem in both this game-turned-movie and in our real worlds, and find that just as the very lack of originality in Mario’s voice ended up working just fine in the Super Mario Bros. movie to keep the focus on the story being told, the Lord may not write the answer to our prayers in the clouds. He is actually speaking directly to our hearts through His Spirit to remind us of His teachings and guide us in a far better way than any burning bush, talking donkey, or miraculous walking stick ever could.
Not many games get the opportunity to have a THIRD life, but of all the games that deserve this chance to breathe again Shadow of the Colossus is certainly one of the most deserving. Beloved for its low-key telling of an incredibly personal story that involves almost zero dialogue and copious amounts of moody atmosphere, the fact that this game every existed once is a miracle in and of itself. But this game had one more trick up its sleeve… Sony continued to believe this title still had an untapped audience who had not yet discovered its grandeur, but a simple re-release was not enough. The game needed to be REMADE from the ground up to reach its' full potential.Join us as we take a look at the difference between a simple remaster and a full remake, and a reminder that the work that we will do for the Lord will take place ALONG our journey, not just at the end of it. We will not be fully completed before He starts to use us... but in truth, it is the vulnerable and wounded version of us that may reach others along our way in a manner we couldn't have otherwise. And as we are being remade, others will be compelled to join this journey with us as we are all being transformed by His Spirit to be remade like Him.#shadow #shadowofthecolossus #shadowofthecolossusremake #colossus #videogames #gaming #gamingvideos #remaster #remake #remastered #christianvideos #christianreels #rewind
After 25 years of leading the Pokémon anime series as the leading protagonist and face of the franchise, Ash has finally achieved his dream of becoming “the very best, like no one ever was”. With his (and Pikachu’s) victory in the Pokémon World Coronation Series Masters Tournament, Ash has proven that he is, in fact, the world’s greatest Pokémon trainer… which means his twenty-five year long story story has finally come to an end.
Join us as we take a look at one of the main reasons Ash’s stories resonated with a global audience over the years... NOTHING came easy for him. He lost almost as many battles as he won, grinding through constant opposition and their insufferable trainers who frequently upstaged him and forced him to grow and learn in order to advance. And hopefully, thanks to Ash, we will look at all the “small things” we are all currently facing in our lives with a new sense of purpose today… the Lord didn’t place these obstacles in our paths, but He WILL use them to refine us so we can successfully carry the larger destiny that He DID design for us. Goodbye Ash... and thanks for all the memories.
In the world of gaming, there may not be a brand more ubiquitous than Fortnite… with an average of over 230 MILLION players a month, this free-to-play juggernaut has maintained a healthy following despite all of the best efforts of their competitors to disrupt their stranglehold on the marketplace. But in a surprising twist, the parent company of Fortnite was forced to undergo a massive round of layoffs to stabilize their business… not because of the damage being done by their competition, but from self-inflicted wounds.Join us as we explore the "Parasite of Pride" that attacks us from within, disguising itself within our blessings, an unrecognized parasite hidden inside of our apparent triumphs... something Fortnite found out the hard way. The sin of pride may be the internal disease that threatens to gorge on our success and cannibalize our victories, but true humility is the cure. Not a humility born of false modesty or a negative self-image, but from an appreciative and grateful heart towards the Lord that joyfully gives all the glory and praise to Him for EVERY good thing we experience down here, from the smallest to the largest.#fortnite #fortnitebattleroyale #fortnitecreative #videogames #gaming #gamingvideos #christianvideos #christianreels #pride #parasite #parasiteofpride #humility #jesus #lucifer #satan #humble #christianliving
We all know the sound… I can’t fully articulate in a manner that will adequately convey it, but when we hear it, we just KNOW. Let me try… it goes something like this, ” Do doooo doo do dooo doo do dooO doOO DOOO DOOO!” See, I told you that it is hard. That was my attempt at using words to describe the sound of the music speeding up as Mario’s time begins running out at the end of a level. You are welcome to try yourself… I promise it is harder than it looks. But as soon as I mentioned it, you could hear it in your head, right? That horrible sound of time running out in a game, made most famous by the timer reaching one hundred ticks and counting in the original Super Mario Brothers game on NES. In that moment everything shifts as we become fiercely aware of a countdown that shifts the entire mood of the game.
Join us as we explore the undefeated adversary for all of us and a struggle I grapple with each and every day... my perception that there is just never enough time. There will always be distractions, detours, unavoidable obstacles, and self-inflicted challenges that we will face as we press forward to make that final jump… and the path to get there as well as how our unique endgame looks will be different and personalized for each of us. Let’s be intentional with the time we have and invest it with a renewed sense of purpose… let’s serve others in love, pray for them with purpose, seek the Lord with intensity, and leave a legacy that will point others towards Him long after we are gone. And if we have less time on the clock remaining than we would prefer, remember that it is those actions we take at the end of the game that have the greatest resonance and often matter the most.
Has this ever happened to you? Have you ever been deep in the middle of an incredibly heated and competitive match when your controller suddenly decides it has run out of charge? If so, you might be entitled to compensation. Well, no, you probably aren't... but you MIGHT be a little bit like me, who ignored the obvious warning signs until my controller went dead when I could least afford for it to happen.
Join us as we take a look at this controller charging conundrum and reflect on the critical difference between what a controller IS and what a controller DOES... and along the way we explore the challenging truth about the Biblical balance between our spiritual faith and our "works".
Portal began life as a simple tech demo and became a franchise all of its own, complete with memorable characters, one of the great ending theme songs of all time, and quite possibly one of the most enjoyable antagonists in the history of gaming. As your player character wordlessly moves through each challenge armed only with the “portal gun”, a bizarre yet perfect reward is repeatedly dangled before you… the promise of "cake" at the end of your testing. But the question Portal asks isn't if the cake is worth searching for, but if the cake we are seeking is even real. Is the cake actually a lie?Join us as we take a look back at the pursuit of cake in both Portal as well as in our real world and grapple with one of the most complicated passages in all of Scripture... the story of when King Ahab went searching for the lie he wanted to believe in and found exactly what he was looking for.#portal #portal2 #valve #glados #thecakeisalie #cake #ahab #god #angels #videogames #videogame #videogaming #lie #lies #christianvideos #christianreels #christianity #christianpodcast #christianpodcaster #gamingpodcast
While Microsoft fans have been able to enjoy the benefits of a premium controller for several years with the fully customizable Elite controller, PlayStation players have been forced to either stick with the official Sony controller or settle for some rather dubious third-party controller options that tried (and failed) to mimic the impressive functionality of the Xbox Elite controller. Are the days of undisputed controller supremacy finally over? Has Sony possibly even gained "the Edge”?
Join us as we take a look at the long path Sony took to the Edge controller and we reflect on the often disappointing reality that there is a time and a place for the gifts and callings of the Lord to be discovered, and often a separate time and place for them to be fully unleashed... and it happens in a time and place of the Father’s choosing, not ours.
In an ever-changing sea of faster frame-rates, dramatically upgraded hardware, and technological upgrades there has been one constant in many of our gaming experiences… the targeting reticle. This little icon on our screens has been a steadfast partner with us across galactic exploration, underwater worlds of wonder, and through just about every battle that has occurred through history, fictional or otherwise. It is an unsung hero through most of our gaming experiences, providing an idea of what your character is looking at or targeting, as well as typically changing colors to identify the difference between friend or foe in the chaos of a firefight. Join us as we explore the importance of those little cross-hairs that guide and direct us, and along the way we will explore the life and times of King David as he found himself in situations that turned his reticle red... and what that teaches us about when the Lord is guiding us to fight, when to ignore, and when to simply endure.#david #kingdavid #videogames #reticle #target #crosshairs #gaming #gamingvideos #targetingreticle #destiny #destiny2 #halo #christianpodcast #christianpodcaster #gamingpodcast
If you have played any story-based game through to completion over the years, you know the feeling… it’s that strange mixture of anticipation and dread that we feel in the pit of our stomach as we realize that we are “in the endgame now”. This is what the entire game has been building towards from the moment we first pressed start, and the tension has become so thick you could cut it with a Darksaber. The mood has shifted from playful exploration and monotonous level-grinding to a singular sense of purpose… to finish the game.
Join us as we take a look at the most critical part of the "endgame" experience... our preparation to ensure we are completely prepared for the grand finale of our story. And along the way we will explore this same concept in our real world lives as we attempt to understand and follow the Biblical command to “make our calling and election sure”.
The moody atmosphere and unique environment of Rapture made Bioshock one of the most memorable games of its' generation, but it was the plot twist that gave a real "The Usual Suspects" vibe to the proceedings. After years of trying and failing to carve a successful path into the portable gaming space, Sony has finally found the right partnership to achieve what they have been dreaming of... a way for gamers to enjoy their content wherever they choose to play it. But the journey from PSP to Backbone One was anything but smooth, and it took Sony giving up on THEIR version of the dream to realize that what they were waiting for was the right TIME and the correct PARTNER.
Join us as we review the rocky road to Sony's vision being accomplished through their partnership with Backbone, and learn how to contend with our own situations in life where our God-given dreams feel stifled. It is easy to reach a point of frustration, doubt, and disillusionment... but it is in those moments we need to pray for the partners that we may not have even met yet. As every dreamer has eventually found to be true, if we are faithful to walk in obedience and faith in the Lord’s plan, He will ALWAYS fulfill His promises… we may simply be waiting on the right alignment of a partner that is essential to His plan to climb the other side of this mountain and meet us at the top.
As we wrap up our Spider-Man 2 series, a large part of the challenge for this Spider-Man game is that it exists in its’ own unique part of the Spider-Man “multiverse”… this is NOT the same Spider-Man that has shown up in the MCU or the Spider-Verse movies, even if some of the scenarios are going to feel pretty similar and the villains hail from the same classic rogues gallery that have plagued Peter and his friends for decades. Paying proper homage to the portions of the Spider-Man journey that align with our expectations while ALSO finding creative ways to subvert some of those expectations is a delicate and challenging balance. While every version of Spider-Man is truly a unique individual, part of the fun of seeing these somewhat similar storylines play out across multiple versions of media is uncovering how each diverse version of Spidey handles the various pressures and decisions thrust upon them.Join us for some encouragement as we reflect on each Spider-Man's unique experience facing very similar friends, foes, and storylines and realize that in the real world we are all “Spider-People” here... with a shared destiny to fulfill, similar pains to endure, and the same source of power to propel us through our adventures. And just as every version of Spider-Man has found over the years, there may be small differences in the villains we face and our specific gifts and mission may vary, but we are all part of this same family. The “gift” of this Spider-bite doesn’t mean the absence of problems, but the promise of Divine protection against the worst that our enemies can throw at us.
Microsoft’s blockbuster acquisition efforts for Activision Blizzard have generated many interesting conversations about the future of video games, with industry experts and gamers alike pondering the ideas and impacts of everything from monopolization, monetization, and now CANNIBALIZATION within the gaming marketplace. Yes, you read that correctly. Microsoft is finally admitting that their Game Pass service cannibalizes the actual sales numbers of the games included in the service… something most of us assumed was true but couldn’t actually prove until now.
Join us as we inspect the seemingly sacrificial decision by Microsoft to give away their biggest and best franchises as a part of this membership service at the cost of cannibalizing their current sales opportunities and realize that this is a smarter business decision than it may appear in the short-term... and learn a critical truth about the "cost" of following Christ that we all must count when taking up our cross.
The release of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 was pretty exciting news for gamers around the world…well, as long as they had the right console, anyways. Spider-Man 2 is a PlayStation exclusive… a PlayStation FIVE exclusive to be exact. And while that is not an issue for those who already possess a shiny PS5 system, it does leave those of us who have NOT made that console purchase yet on the outside looking in.Join us as we explore this "exclusivity conundrum" that compels us to upgrade and wrestle with the reality that Sony isn’t punishing or excluding anyone by delivering Spider-Man 2 on the PS5… they are simply enticing the entire gaming audience to upgrade with an amazing game that was EXCLUSIVELY designed to run on this platform. Sure, the initial investment will be steep… commitments usually are. But this is the same principle that Christ was speaking of when He told us to “count the cost” before choosing to follow Him in Luke 14:25-33… to receive all that our Father has for us, we must be prepared to accept it on His EXCLUSIVE terms and make the commitment to pursue Him with all of our hearts.#spiderman #spiderman2 #spidermanmilesmorales #spiderman2ps5 #spidermanps5 #marvelsspiderman #marvelsspiderman2 #videogames #jesus #god #ps5 #playstation #christianreels #christiannerds #christianvideos #christianity #christianpodcast #christianpodcaster #nerdpodcast #gamingpodcast
The fan response to the first iteration of what has now been affectionally named “Ugly Sonic” was SO massively negative that the movie's creators had to completely throw out their first design of Sonic and all of his animations and start over. Continuing to invest into this unproven concept that appeared to be “damaged goods” was a massive risk. But fortunately for all of us, the designers behind the first “Ugly Sonic” didn’t shut down their dream simply because their first attempt was a massive failure... and “Ugly Sonic” was reimagined and became the impetus for the most successful video game movie franchise in history.
Join us as we take a look at Sonic's "ugly start" and share our own experience with "starting ugly" with the decisions we made in life, and along the way we will explore the importance of moving forward from these places to the destiny that was designed for us... a destiny forged with full awareness of the mistakes we would make along the way.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 brought even MORE iconic villains, even HIGHER stakes, and a deeper story that pushed both of our friendly neighborhood protagonists to their mental and physical limits… and in a proper sequel, that is what we should expect. I mean, who picks up the next game in a series and expects it to be easier? Sure, our main characters are stronger and have grown in their skills and capabilities, but this ALSO tends to draw even MORE challenging enemies out of the woodwork. And for characters like Peter and Miles, one has to wonder what else could they possibly lose after enduring so much pain in their young lives already? And the unfortunate answer for both of them is that those early struggles were just the beginning… because with great sequels comes even greater responsibility.Join us as we explore the ever-increasing challenges of our favorite web-slinging heroes and the reality that every Spider-Man has learned the hard way... that this great power has come with more than just a “great responsibility”… it comes with even greater adversity. But as every friendly neighborhood servant of Christ has also found, our ongoing adventures in obedience to Him are what place us into intersecting paths with those we were sent to reach… and He even uses the machinations of those who seek to do us harm to move us out of our positions of comfort and into a place where we can do the greatest good.#spiderman #spidermanmilesmorales #peterparker #spiderman2 #marvel #marvelsspiderman #marvelsspiderman2 #videogames #christianreels #christianvideos #christian #christianity #venom #christianpodcast #christianpodcaster #gamingpodcast
There are iconic games that define their generation, and then there is GoldenEye… arguably one of the greatest games to come out of the Nintendo 64 era. And after all of these years, the original GoldenEye has found its’ way back to reclaim its’ former glory on both the Xbox and the Nintendo Switch, giving both original fans as well as those who have never played this game in its’ original form an opportunity to see if it still stands up. But now that it is HERE, why am I not quite as excited as I should be for this classic title to make its’ return? The answer is a bit complicated.
Join us as we explore what has changed and made the return of GoldenEye less overwhelming than we had hoped... not because there is anything wrong with the game itself, but because the way we played the game (and the real reason we loved it) has changed. And along the way we will discover the massive difference between attending a church for own personal development, participating in a church to support the growth of others, and BEING the church in our day to day lives for the purposes of reaching those who need the love and comfort brought to them in their place of need. We don’t have to be the best, the smartest, or even the most well-equipped… we just have to be WILLING. Willing to bring this “blast from the past” concept into our present, even when the technology and culture we are surrounded by often serves to drive us farther apart. Willing to show love through disagreement, grace through misunderstanding, and speak peace in the midst of chaos. Willing to be the place where healing can happen… one unique controller plugged into the source at a time.
In their high school yearbook photo, they would have been voted the least likely properties to find their way into a video game franchise together, but in this East meets West collaboration the minds behind Final Fantasy and the house that Mickey built formed an organism that for gamers rivals the sweet, sweet combination of peanut butter and chocolate. This unforeseen merging of all things Disney into the unique worlds and depth of gameplay that Square Enix creates has generated a massive and fervent fan following, and few upcoming games are more anticipated than the (hopefully soon) release of Kingdom Hearts 4.Join us as we explore the unique combination of these two seemingly non-complimentary franchises into one of the greatest gaming collaborations of all time... and learn a little but more about the critical importance of EVERY member in the body of Christ (even the ones that are a little bit "Goofy" like me)!#kingdomhearts #kingdomheartsiv #kingdomheartsseries #videogames #disney #mickeymouse #squareenix #square #finalfantasy #christiannerd #christianreels #christianvideos #christian #christianity #bodyofchrist
Finishing a video game can be a bittersweet experience… the characters and story that we may have been enjoying for hours, days, months, or sometimes even YEARS is suddenly over, and that finality can be even more jarring if we are unhappy with the way the game ends. After investing emotionally into the narrative journey of a group of characters or spending a great deal of time developing specific skills in order to “beat the game”, the last thing any gamer wants is to feel like the story didn’t come to a satisfying conclusion. What I PREFER is what I find in a game like Super Mario 3D World, which cleverly hides some of its’ most clever and exciting levels AFTER we have successfully completed the game and defeated Bowser. If I had simply turned off the game and put it away the moment it seemed like I was finished and I had done all there was to do, I would have completely MISSED the best part.
Join us as we explore some of our LEAST satisfying conclusions and discover the spiritual truth that the Lord who wrote our beginning also crafted our endgame… and if we allow Him, He will turn even the most ordinary of circumstances into something extraordinary. Sometimes the game might seem to be over, but there is another level waiting around the corner with new challenges to conquer and a better ending than the one we were prepared to settle for. He does His best work on the other side of the tombs that were intended to be the final resting place for our hopes and our dreams.
We all did it, we just didn’t recognize it for what it was at the time. Yours might be slightly different than mine, but for each of us there was a time we placed a beloved and integral part of our gaming experience back into the case for the final time and simply didn’t know it. There was a night that my friends and I gathered together for our regular Halo 2 LAN party for the final time, but we didn’t KNOW that would be the last time. I wish we would have celebrated it, cherished it, took time to share what it meant to each of us, and made those goodbyes more intentional and meaningful, since it was the final time we would all do this together. But we didn’t know.
Join us as we reflect on a few of our "last times" and deal with the uncomfortable reality that each and every day we may be doing something or sharing an experience with someone for the final time… and we may not realize how much this current moment matters until it has passed. Let’s “play the game” today with full knowledge that we are passing through some of these stages for the last time… not with sadness, but with appreciation and gratitude. And if we enter each round of our battles today with our knowledge of eternity in our hearts and our understanding of our limited time on this planet on our minds, we will live each moment to its’ fullest and make every opportunity we are given today matter.
The triumphant return of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to the public consciousness is a victory for a new generation being exposed to these characters for the first time as well as a nice dose of nostalgia for those of us who played the original games... but they don’t have a new game on the shelves to call their own. Their most recent release was the retro-inspired Shredder’s Revenge that was released in 2022. Instead, they have been showing up in other games such as Fall Guys and Street Fighter 6 as "special guests"… for a premium price, of course. Join us as we unpack an unfortunate reality... while playing as our favorite crime fighting turtles in these separate game franchises is a fun and easy download, it is ultimately a shallow and superficial gaming experience. It is only when they finally come together in a unique and fully developed title of their OWN that we will truly get to enjoy the benefits of a deep, authentic narrative with these beloved characters. And in that same vein, as followers of Christ we should all show our appreciation for the “guest appearances” in our spiritual walk that are sacrificially given by those who the Lord has brought into our lives to minister into our hearts and souls… but let’s also keep our minds fixed on developing a true relationship with Christ that moves beyond surface-level “DLC” and into a unique and intimate connection that transcends our passive attention.#tmnt #teenagemutantninjaturtles #ninjaturtles #videogames #videogamesretro #christianreels #christianvideos #christianity #fallguys #dlc #superficial #christiannerd #christianpodcast #christianpocaster #gamingpodcast #nerdpodcast
Don’t call it a comeback… the return of the Telltale Games studio to the video game industry has more in common with a resurrection, as this company was completely dead in the waters five years ago. After years of churning out their very unique and specific style of dialogue-driven, narrative-focused games, Telltale Games appeared to have breathed its’ last gasp back in 2018… after completely running out of financing options, the company shut down and all of their employees were separated without any notice. A combination of poor management, a failure to update their archaic game engine, and their frenetic, self-inflicted release schedule created the worst possible outcome for any developer… studio closure. And yet, against all odds, Telltale has returned from the grave. Well… sort of.
Join us as we unpack the "rebirth" of Telltale Games and discover the truth that much like those of us who have chosen to be "born again", this new studio operating under their original name will only be successful with this second chance if they learn from the mistakes of their first opportunity and make different choices this time around. We all still have a “tale to tell”… and we make the choice of whether it is a cautionary tale or a victorious one. Let’s cherish the opportunity to tell a new chapter in our story today… each new day we receive down here is a fresh lease on life that we cannot take for granted, and each moment in His presence is an unearned gift beyond our comprehension. Let’s make it count!
Cyberpunk is one of my favorite genres in both gaming and non-interactive entertainment. Few games have attempted to nail this setting, and fewer still have gotten it right. But then there is the Deus Ex franchise, brimming with all the tech noire that befits its futuristic setting. These dystopian futures resemble our real world more and more all the time, as our hyper-dependence on technology becomes more pronounced with each passing year. Join us as we take a look back at a franchise that asks some pretty thought-provoking questions, in which as our protagonist has to make multiple difficult decisions over the course of the game to slowly give himself over to the very technology he is fighting against in order to compete with those who would control the world... and share what we learned about what the Bible REALLY says about being 'in the world but not of it" and what it truly means to become all things to all people so that we can reach them with the gospel.
Choosing a “favorite” game villain can be a bit of a challenge… while almost every gaming experience is driven by an antagonist who propels our character forward on their journey, there are a handful of these opponents who were truly unforgettable. For some, their appetite for evil was only matched by their impeccable sense of style… for others, it is their persistence to come back time and time again despite being soundly defeated in each of their previous attempts. My personal “favorites” are the ones who can ALMOST convince me that I am the one who is mistaken… characters who have a rationalization for their actions that gives their horrific crusade a strangely compelling argument. Of course, they are ALL still wrong… but some find just enough justification for their behaviors to make them the hero of their own story.
Join us as we take a look at some pretty infamous gaming villains as well as the chief villain in all of our lives... and discover the secret to defeating them :)
How much do you REALLY know about Mario? Do you know WHY the artist formerly known as "Jumpman" was renamed Mario? For most of my life, I honestly never stopped to question it myself. But the true story about how this fictional plumber who started out life with the simple name “Jumpman” became globally known as Mario is made all the more compelling because of how relatable its’ occurrence may be to all of us… Mario gained his name because Nintendo of America was behind on their rent.Join us as we explore the REAL story behind how Mario received his iconic name... and the reality that the small decisions we make to demonstrate the heart of Christ through patience, kindness, and mercy in the seemingly inconsequential things in life may end up carrying our lasting legacy the way that “Mario” as a game character will live on long after people have forgotten the story of how he was named or who he was named for.
Half of any role-playing game is tracking down quest items to complete errands and assignments that allow us to progress further into the game, and in most open-world games it is common to explore areas that contain quest items for quests that we haven’t yet received. What appears to be a random piece of junk may actually be a critical component used to craft an incredibly powerful piece of armor, but it won’t reveal itself as such until we run into the armorer who is capable of forging such a masterpiece. The value of many of these items may not be apparent in my backpack or fetch a high price at the local shop, but they tend to reveal their true value when the story calls for them. And in most video games, if the developer took the time to not only create the item but also place it in a specific location within the narrative, there is a good chance that they did this for a very specific and important reason.
Join us as we discuss the STRANGEST things we have found uses for in video games and explore the truth that much like our video game adventures, what we are given by the “Creator” doesn’t always make sense until it is time for it to be used in our quest… and then we will find that even these odd and seemingly random items and occurrences were actually critical and required elements for us to be able to move forward. If things aren’t making a lot of sense in our lives right now, it might be because we are expecting these quest items to be functional right NOW, when their intended and designed usage is a bit farther on down the road. He may provide us keys for doors that are meant to be unlocked at another time or develop skills within us for a journey we aren’t even aware that we should be preparing for!

Well, my fellow Xbox friends, it is the end of an era for all of us… Microsoft has finally announced the end of the Xbox Live Gold online service. After over two decades of defining the console multiplayer experience, Xbox Live Gold will fully transition into a lower-paid tier of the Xbox Game Pass service called “Game Pass Core”, and with this change, several of the defining features of Xbox Live Gold will be left behind, including one of my personal favorites… the three to four free games that were included each month.
Join us as we explore this potentially unwanted but ultimately inevitable change to the Xbox Live service as well as explore the reality that many times in our real-world lives we will be faced with this exact same feeling… an unappreciated and unwelcome fork in the road that represents a dramatic shift to the status quo we have enjoyed for years. And when these changes are ordained by the Lord, the reality is that the Father’s plan WILL be accomplished one way or another (as people like Jonah and Samson found out the hard way) and His will IS going to be done on earth as well as in heaven… all we control is our attitude and the willingness of our service towards the achievement of it.
(SPOILER ALERT: Final Fantasy X spoilers ahead) You know that moment... it is the point of no return. It is that moment when all of your party members have received a nice tidy bow on their story, all the lower level enemies have been dispatched, the side missions have all been completed, the musical score has changed to a more subtle, haunting refrain of the battle music that has pumped you up across your journey thus far, and all that remains is your final boss on the other side of the last door. I have sat holding the controller many a time simply soaking in this moment, not because I am excited to reach the finale, but because now that I am at the threshold I am not sure I am ready to cross the line that will trigger the final sequences of a voyage I am not prepared to let go of yet.Join us for an exploration of the "Bittersweet Taste of the Endgame" as we take a deep dive into the final steps of Final Fantasy X and the final words written by the Apostle Paul... and learn how to reconcile the gentle tug of sadness we feel every time we deal with a loved one reaching the end of their story or deal with the knowledge that our own journey is drawing to a close. And for those of us who have placed our trust in Jesus Christ, we can rejoice in knowing this life was merely the beta version of our future experience with Him in eternity… a life where all the bugs and glitches have been removed and the full vision of His plan for us is realized in a glorious paradise that He has been preparing for us from the moment He ascended back to Heaven.#finalfantasy #finalfantasyx #finalfantasyx2 #ffx #ffx2 #videogames #endgame #death #christianvideos #christianreels #christianliving #christiangamer #spoiler #spoileralert #apostlepaul #christianpodcast #christianpodcaster
Thanks to the modern renaissance occurring in the comic book movie realm, as a viewing audience we have received DOZENS of super-hero movies that I would have never believed were possible. But within all of the vast amount of “cinematic universes” we are currently enjoying, there is still room for these movies to fail. And with a current estimated loss of $200 million dollars at the time of this recording, “The Flash” seems poised to go down in history as one of the largest box office bombs of all time… and I want to figure out why.
Join us as we discover the REAL reason behind the "Flash flop".. a reason that has a lot less to do with what the movie CONTAINED, and a lot more to do with what it was MISSING… a feeling that the story it contained had any future significance. And as we explore this we will find a deeper truth that we are dealing with in our real-world lives each and every day… do we truly believe that each decision we make will have lasting ramifications in the lives that we are impacting? Do we prayerfully approach our lives with the understanding that even seemingly small moments will have eternal resonance beyond our comprehension? The decisions we choose to make today MATTERS… to ourselves and in the lives of others who may never even meet on this side of eternity.

As our games grow larger and open-world gaming via an overworld map or at least a hub world has become the standard operating procedure for almost every major title that releases, a new experience has become just as standard… the fast travel button. When you have areas to explore that can literally take over an hour of real world time to traverse, or in the case of select titles areas that simply do not connect to each other without the fast travel method, this has become less of a convenience and more of a necessity. Many of our favorite titles would become virtually unplayable without this built-in “cheat” that allows us to bypass the mundane requirements of physically moving from one place to another to progress.Join us as we explore the "fast travel" button and our own desires for a real world version of this "cheat"... and learn that the process is too important to skip through, and that is why we don’t receive a fast travel option. It may seem long and unnecessary from our perspective, but let's stay strong during this long walk and resist the urge to fast travel. It is the path, not the destination, that holds the story that will be our testimony.#fastravel #videogames #christianvideos #christianreels #christianliving #christiangamer #gamingvideos #gamecheats #cheat #cheatcode
It's the "Final Countdown"… at the time of this video we are counting down the HOURS until the release of Starfield, one of the most anticipated game launches of our modern era. If this game lives up to its’ pre-release description of being “Skyrim in space”, we are ALL about to lose a lot of time off of our gaming calendars to this one... and now that my available gaming time is more limited than ever, taking on the mission of exploring Starfield’s vast galaxy of planets means I have something I need to do before I embark on this new adventure. Actually, I have SEVERAL things I need to do… I have some games I need to FINISH before Starfield arrives. Now that I know I am running out of time, I have some unfinished games that I need to wrap up with urgency, because once I have crossed the event horizon of Starfield’s gravitational pull, it is “game over” for those titles… perhaps permanently.
Join us as we discuss our "launch preparations" for both Starfield as well as a similarly "imminent launch" that is showing signs of approaching… a return that is almost two thousand years in the making that compels an identical review on what I am doing, how much time I have left to do it, and what MUST be done before time runs out. And regardless of whether we believe the Lord's return is distant or imminent, Christ’s message remains the same… let Him catch us COMPLETING the missions we were assigned and OCCUPYING until He comes.
We all have one... I call mine the “good” controller. If you have played games for a long enough time, then you probably have one of these, even if you don’t necessarily call it that. Sure, you may have several controllers, but THIS is the one you use when it is time to get down to business in a game. It’s your favorite controller… the one you reach for first even though the other controllers you have available are fully charged and perfectly capable of performing the same task. It is the controller that you DON’T hand to company when they come over to play… and if someone comes over with little ones who want to play on your game console, it is the controller that gets hidden QUICKLY to protect it from their little Cheeto hands. It is the controller that just “feels right” when you hold it in your hands to play a game, and even if it is the same size and weight as all the others, you can tell which one is “the good controller”… even in the dark. It’s not more expensive than the other controllers, better than them, or even in better shape than the others… but it is the controller that must be protected at all costs because it is the “good controller”.
Join us as we take on one of the most divisive, challenging, and misunderstood concepts in the entire Bible... "Holiness". We are going DEEP on this one... from controllers and cereal bowls to the original Greek and Hebrew origins of the word "holy". And along the way we will share our finding that “holiness” is not some hopeless pursuit of an impossible state of being, but simply an alignment of who we are with what we have been called to do. We can all be the “good controller”… not because there is anything good in us, but because we have willingly placed ourselves and the control over our choices into the hands of the One who is the definition of good so we can accomplish what we were set apart to do.

We are all accustomed to seeing “bugs” in our Pokémon titles… but typically they are cute and fun character such as Caterpie, Butterfree, or Cutiefly. The bugs that are currently plaguing the release of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are the farthest thing from cute… and catching them all is definitely not fun. Years ago, Nintendo’s very own Shigeru Miyamoto wisely stated that, “A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad.” If only the talented team developing this potentially incredible adventure would have heeded his warning, we would have avoided a lot of... well, watch the video and you will see.
Join us as we explore the reasons behind the glitch-filled release of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and gain a deeper understanding of the dynamic between "hope and faith"... when we pray for the Lord’s will to be done rather than our own, it means we are giving up OUR solution to our prayers and accepting HIS resolution to our problems. Hope is not blindly “wishing” for something to happen while adding our faith in the Lord into the mix as some kind of secret ingredient. Our faith is based in believing in who the Lord is, and our hope is grounded in Him doing what He said He would do in a manner consistent with who He is.
There was a period of time that Rayman seemed poised to be the next breakout lead character of the platforming genre, with strong releases across multiple consoles that earned critical acclaim and modest commercial success. But it was his ill-fated dance with the “Rabbids” that grew his franchise into a global phenomenon… but left our limbless hero behind. The bizarre party-style “Rayman Raving Rabbids” game thrust these new side-characters into the spotlight, and they have yet to give it back. FINALLY, Rayman is at least getting to step back into the franchise he birthed as a DLC add-on for Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope... and in his story we will find our own "Sparks of Hope" as well.
Join us as we explore Rayman's journey from hero to zero and reflect on a very similar struggle for Christ's very own flesh-and-blood cousin... John the Baptist. And in these parallel stories we will find a deeper spiritual truth behind Luthen's iconic speech in Star Wars: Andor when he said, "I burn my life to make a sunrise I know I will never see"...

(Author’s Note: This video is not a recommendation or endorsement of this game/franchise and is written for the purposes of commenting on a missing feature from the game and its’ implications. As with all entertainment and media consumption, we advise all to adhere to Biblical principles as well as their own individual convictions from the Lord). After many years of patiently waiting, eager fans finally got their hands on Diablo IV and discovered a few unwelcome surprises… most notably, that the game’s persistent online connection removed the ability to PAUSE the game while playing it. That’s right, even when playing the game in single player, this game can NOT be paused… and the inability to pause and safely step away for a moment to use the restroom, research our current predicament for solutions, or just take a break and regroup makes the experience even more restricting.
Join us as we reflect on how this inability to press "Pause" is causing gamers to lose valuable progress (as well as from some game-breaking bugs), and along the way we will learn a LOT about the answer to the question "What Would Jesus Do?"... and the answer may NOT be what you think!
Our introduction to the mysterious "Cyborg Ninja" in the first Metal Gear Solid left us with more questions than answers... and the reveal of who this enigmatic warrior truly was and what was driving him is one of the most underrated parts of this legendary game. I can’t relate to being a genetically enhanced super human robot ninja, but his struggle with "forgiving himself" and his inability to move forward from his past mistakes definitely hits home for me. Join us as we take a deep dive into the tragic story of Gray Fox and share our own personal struggles with forgiving ourselves... and along the way attempt to find the Biblical answer to our very real question, "How can a child of God, born again and in a committed daily relationship with Jesus, forgive others and offer grace to everyone but themselves?"#forgiveness #forgive #forgiveyourself #videogames #metalgearsolid #cyborgninja #grayfox #christianvideos #christianreels #christianpodcast #christianpodcaster #gamingpodcast
Life is starting to imitate art as the high stakes battle between Microsoft and Sony for control of Activision Blizzard is playing out like a video game boss fight with LITERAL game-changing implications… and as the cold war between these two behemoths plays out in court, a LOT of previously concealed communications are beginning to come to light. If you have not kept up to date on the legal happenings between these two companies, here is the quick version… Microsoft announced an agreement to acquire Activision Blizzard for almost $70 billion dollars, and with this transaction Microsoft would own exclusive control over major franchises such as Call of Duty, Overwatch, and the rest of Activision Blizzard’s massive portfolio of titles. But a purchase of this magnitude has resulted in a massive amount of legal review such as the ongoing proceedings by the FTC in the UK to explore the ramifications of this deal... and both Microsoft and Sony are finding. out the hard way that their "private" internal communications are suddenly not so private anymore.
Join us as we explore the fallout from this courtroom drama as well as the troubling but important truth that a similar "day of reckoning" will exist for all of our actions, words, thoughts, and even our hidden motives... and along the way we will figure out what we should do about it.
Join us for an exploration of one of the strangest chapters in the Legend of Zelda series... Link's Awakening. This game has had multiple opportunities to tell its' strange "fish story" over the years, and in this narrative journey there is much to learn about our own struggles with whether or not our "fish" is enough.
If you think you don’t have enough resources to serve God, you are missing the point of this whole story. If you believe that you don’t have enough time, money, support, or abilities to do what God wants you to do… let me tell you something important. You are RIGHT. You DON’T have enough. Not on your own. But what you DO have is MORE than enough if you just surrender it to the One who gave it to you in the first place and let Him multiply it. His abundance is never the issue… it is all about our willingness to bring Him what may be in our eyes (or even the eyes of others) an insignificant portion of “fish” with the faith that HE will do something magnificent with it.
WARNING: We will share a little bit about our own personal reflections on losses (including pregnancy loss) in this video. If you are anything like me, you have lost some things in life, too. Time, loved ones, relationships, capabilities, possessions… many times it can feel like my path in life has a great deal in common with my struggle to make progress in Jedi Survivor. Getting stuck on one area forces me to go back to a “restart” point over and over and OVER again until I can finally get it right and move ahead… and in the meantime I feel like I am wasting valuable time, energy, and resources just to get back to the exact same place I was before. And my anxiety is compounded by the knowledge that I am not getting any younger… I have less time each day to move my journey forward, making any non-fruitful time even more painful to absorb. Sure, there is knowledge I have gained, skills I have grown, and lessons I have learned through my repetitive efforts to advance… but that doesn’t make it any easier to accept the reality that sometimes I will spend a great deal of time and effort just trying to get back to square one.
Join us for a very personal video as we share our reflections on both our losses and our restorations... and remind ourselves that it is our enemy that tries to bury us in shame for the sins we have repented from and uses our previous tragedies to keep us from moving forward after he has killed our dreams and stolen our joy… it’s in his job description. Satan would like nothing better than to see the children of God wallowing in despair, afraid to embrace our God-given destinies because we believe the Lord’s grace is sufficient enough to cleanse us but lacks the strength to RESTORE us. Restoration is ASSURED for all of the Lord’s children who are willing to return to that place of previous defeat and allow the Lord to give us the strength to not only face them, but refuse to permit them to define us.
After years of failing to read the writing on the wall, one of the original premier gaming expos in the entire world has finally accepted the inevitability of their situation… the Electronic Entertainment Expo did not return this year physically, electronically, or in any other form. The saddest part about this is that there was a flicker of hope that this year would be the year that E3 would return to relevance… but E3 2023 was stuck facing the same challenges that they never truly addressed in the wake of E3 2019. Join us as we explore the rise and fall of what used to represent the pinnacle of the video game industry and the parallel journey of King Saul, and along the way we will learn the critical importance of maintaining a "teachable spirit" as well as discover the unfortunate and preventable outcomes that occur when we don't.
Join us for this week's episode of "Ministry Spotlight" as we get to sit down with Samuru from Gaming and God to get down and nerdy, as he shares some of the secrets and insights he has learned over his years of being both a passionate gamer and a disciple of Christ!
Streaming services such as Twitch have permanently altered the gaming landscape and added an additional layer of challenge to the games we play. Beating the game and defeating the villainous characters contained inside of it only represents a portion of the battle gamers are choosing to fight… the larger mission for many is to gain enough clicks, views, likes, subscribes, and followers to hopefully go “viral” and gain the credibility that comes along with it.
The desire to achieve “viral” success is not limited to the realm of gaming… and it is not simply an invention of social media, either. But a concerning trend is emerging from this obsession with “going viral”… the tendency to believe that the number of clicks or likes that we receive not only validates the value of what we have created, but that the lack of “engagement” that we see for our creations somehow invalidates and devalues them. Join us as we take a deeper look at the "Twitch-ification" of gaming and a reminder that the same Lord who left the ninety-nine to seek and save ONE lost soul is calling His followers to do likewise... even if it is just for an audience of ONE.

Star Wars. Halo. Harry Potter. Final Fantasy. The MCU. The Legend of Zelda. Tomb Raider. What is one thing all of these various properties and so many more have experienced over the years? If you answered PREQUELS, then clearly you already read the title of this video. If there is one constant in the various seas of entertainment we choose to enjoy, it is that no franchise is immune to moving farther forward or backward in time in order to milk every last possible storyline from it. From excellent additions to the lore of their respective series such as Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi to essential experiences such as Halo Reach, prequels have proven time and time again that in the right hands these stories can be both commercially successful as well as critically acclaimed. Performing a time jump to the past can give us the opportunity to learn even more about our favorite characters and the worlds that they occupy, but there is also a curious dynamic that exists in exploring these launching points… before we even begin partaking of the experience, we already know where the story inevitably has to go.
Join us as we reflect on the "Peace in the Prequel" we each experience when enjoying these narratives and remind ourselves that our internal peace cannot come from how the Lord chooses to address our storms in life… it must come from understanding that we are currently in the PREQUEL of a story that He has already written. A story that already has a pre-determined ending… Christ’s complete victory that He is sharing with all who have placed their faith in Him.

If you had told me years ago that the act of watching other people play video games would become an industry that is worth over $3 billion dollars annually and growing, I would have never believed you. It just sounds like such a crazy idea… a crazy idea that has changed the world of video games forever. From televised competitions for elite players who compete for fame and fortune to the humble gaming setups of simple gamers like you and me playing from home while others spectate, watching other people play video games is one of the fastest growing sectors of viewed entertainment on the planet. Gamers all over the world are putting the controller down and picking up their remote control so they can watch, listen to, and even interact with other gamers while they play.
Join us as we take a deeper look at this phenomenon and reflect on why this is a GOOD thing. And if we look close enough, it may help us understand the challenging reality we face as followers of Christ to "live-stream" the impact of Christ in our lives... through both the good times AND the bad.
In this episode of "Ministry Spotlight", we are learning more about our friends at Anilujah Podcast and how they are combining their love of animated films across many different genres with their passion for the Lord! Let’s do a quick exercise. If you are currently playing through a video game raise your hand. If you are ALSO playing through another game simultaneously raise your other hand. If IN ADDITION to those two games you have yet ANOTHER game in the queue that you are still messing around with raise another hand. And finally, if those games are on different video game platforms raise just ONE more hand. Hmmm... that seems like more hands than you should be able to raise at one time. You should probably see a doctor about that. Join us as we unpack the challenges of the "double-minded" syndrome... an issue that most of us face in both our gaming hobby as well as our real-world lives without realizing it. Origin stories. They are not only an expectation, they are practically a rite of passage. If you want to get to the part of the game where your character can execute their coolest moves and demonstrate the abilities you saw and drooled about in all of the game trailers, then you better buckle up for a long ride because the person you will start the game as is rarely that person. They tend to lack all of the powers you associate with them, possess a small and insignificant life bar with an equally empty skill tree, and can scarcely hold their own in a fight with a common street thug when you first get started. We have come to expect that we must slowly BECOME the acrobatic and skilled hero we originally imagined over the course of many hours of learning moves, unlocking attributes, and finding gear. And IF we have persevered, by the end of the game we just MIGHT look like, act like, and fight like the superhero we planned on playing as for the last twenty hours. After many years of the same pattern in video games, Insomniac Games took the bold move to shoot a string of web and swing right past the expected origin story of Peter Parker and give us a fully capable, combat ready, mature(ish) Spider-Man for their first foray with this license. From their home consoles to their portable gaming juggernauts, Nintendo currently stands without equal as the longest running entertainment company in the video game space. For over 130 years, Nintendo has had their eyes firmly focused on delivering relevant gaming content with entertainment options that are both affordable and portable. No… that wasn’t a typo. The Nintendo company that we all know and love got their start all the way back in the year 1889 as a producer and distributor of playing cards (no, they weren’t Pokémon cards. But wouldn’t that have been SUPER COOL?). Join us as we take a look back at Nintendo's humble beginnings and a path that did not fully indicate the destiny they would one day step into. And along the way we will learn a critical spiritual truth....in whatever position life has us in right now, we are NOT here by accident. There is a purpose in these circumstances that is aligned with the calling He has given us (Romans 8:28). It may not make a lot of sense right now… it rarely does. But if we want to graduate to the next part of His plan for our lives, we must first fully learn the lessons that He is teaching us in this place we are currently occupying. DC fans, let me apologize in advance for offending those of you who adore Krypton's most famous son....but, personally I am not Superman’s biggest fan. Nothing against those of you whose heart swells every time you hear his theme, but for me everything just seems to come a little too easy for the son of Krypton. He lacks both the pathos of Batman as well as the humanity of the Flash. Lois Lane dies? No problem, he just flies around the sun, reverses time and course-corrects. But when Flash does something similar he nearly destroys the entire multiverse by creating Flashpoint. Superman had an incredibly interesting character arc between the two Injustice video games, so please join us as we open up these game's plots and reflect on how they intersect with some intriguing and highly resonating questions that do NOT have easy answers. Not every game can stand the test of time. Don’t believe me? For every Super Mario Bros. or Legend of Zelda that looks and feels just as solid as you remember it, there are those other poor monsters that simply were not meant to enter into this millennium. Go ahead and dig that old PS1 out of the garage and give that old copy of Bubsy 3D a try. But the original Metal Gear Solid is, well, not to be too obvious here, but it is still SOLID. Join us as we take a look at a lesson learned from the ever changing environment that Snake faced when trying to find the secret to using ONE card key to activate THREE separate terminals... and along the way, we will gain a better understanding on how the Lord uses the unique challenges of the environment around us to shape us into the perfect "key" for those souls who would never have been reached any other way.#videogames #Christiangamer #God #Jesus #Christianity #ChristianLiving #MetalGear #metalgearsolid #gamer #gamers #gaming #christian #christianlife #christiangamer #christianvideos #christianreels #christianreel #christianpodcast
Overwatch 1 is gone… the game that became a standard in esports competition and redefined team-based shooters for a generation of gaming fans has been wiped off of the face of the earth, never to be played again. When the inevitable sequel was first announced, the impact it would have on the first game wasn’t fully understood… most of us probably assumed these two titles would peacefully co-exist next to each other for a long time to come. But Overwatch 2 is not simply a new experience in the Overwatch universe… it REPLACED it.Join us as we unpack our feelings on this as well as the changes we experience in our real-world lives… whether these changes we are facing are entirely unwanted or something that we desired, they ARE happening. They are inevitable… the only part we choose is whether we allow these changes to press us deeper into our relationship with the Lord and increase His control of our lives, or stubbornly place that obsolete Overwatch 1 disc into our drive tray in a vain attempt to relive an experience that now resides permanently in our past.#Overwatch #Overwatch2 #sequel #change #gaming #videogames #videogaming #christian #christianity #christianliving #Christiangamer #God #Jesus #christianvideos #Christ
I may be in the minority here, but of all the conflicts that have existed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I have found the interplay between the heroic Thor and his trickster younger brother Loki to be the most human and compelling. And it's more than just the classic "brains vs. brawn" or "sibling rivalry" aspects of their conflict that make their relationship so interesting... it's the juxtaposition of two very different and complex personalities, skill sets, and outlooks on life that sets apart this epic struggle for supremacy. And the more I dig into it, the more I realized that I have heard this story before... in the book of Genesis to be specific. Join us as we dive into the origins of a very similar sibling rivalry that also had some pretty far reaching implications...#Marvel #MarvelStudios #marvelcinematicuniverse #mcu #thor #Loki #videogames #Christianity #Christians #christiangamer #christianvideos #christian #christianliving #god #jesus #jacob #israel #esau #christianpodcast
The time has finally come to say goodbye to the world’s most well-known Pokémon trainer… Ash Ketchum. After 25 years of leading the Pokémon anime series as the leading protagonist and face of the franchise, Ash has finally achieved his dream of becoming “the very best, like no one ever was”. With his (and Pikachu’s) victory in the Pokémon World Coronation Series Masters Tournament, Ash has proven that he is, in fact, the world’s greatest Pokémon trainer… which means his twenty-five year long story story has finally come to an end.Join us as we take a look at one of the main reasons Ash’s stories resonated with a global audience over the years... Branding is an exceptionally powerful part of the gaming medium, and licenses have either succeeded or failed many times simply due to the effectiveness of the marketing campaign and a catchy title. The console side of the business is no exception, and over the years we can really gain a lot of insight into both the mindset and the future of a company by how they choose to identify their signature product. Sony, Nintendo, Sega, and Microsoft each revealed a great deal about their mentality, strategy, and amount of risk they were willing to undertake by how creative their console names were (or in some cases, WEREN'T).Join us as we take a deeper look at the "labels" that these console makers chose to wear, and along the way we will also explore some of the "labels" that we each wear in life... and what our Heavenly Father has to say about them.#videogames #christiangamer #christianity #christianliving #christianvideos #gaming #god #gamingvideos #jesus #christianlife #abraham #names #labels #sony #sonyplaystation #xbox #microsoft #nintendo #gameconsole #sega #christianpodcast
SPOILERS AHEAD!!! Seriously, we are going to spoil the daylights out of the new Obi-Wan Kenobi series… so if you have not watched the series through to completion, please proceed at your own peril. The most difficult part of watching this series was witnessing the complete disconnect of Obi-Wan Kenobi from “the force”… this was most certainly NOT the Obi-Wan Kenobi we had grown to know and love. The Obi-Wan Kenobi we knew was GONE, replaced by a broken shell of a man who had lost everything he had ever cared about, loved, or believed in. His heartbreak and disappointment were evident in every aspect of his mundane daily activities, and as he endured the quiet solitude of his final act of service to the Jedi Order it was clear that he had not “lost touch” with the force… he had willingly shut himself off from it.Please join us as we explore Obi-Wan's painful path, from his feelings of brokenness and abandonment to his "reconnection", and along the way we will share our own experience with "feeling forsaken" and what we learned about reconnecting to Christ through these dark places. For a short time retro gaming consoles were bigger than anything NOT named Fortnite... gamers worldwide were getting to enjoy many of the experiences that ruled my adolescent life with pixel perfect versions of titles such as Super Mario Bros 3, Legend of Zelda, and Donkey Kong Country lighting up high definition televisions in all of their original 8-bit and 16-bit glory. Were you there when it happened? The "Black Hole event"? If you weren't, let me enlighten you. We DID IT! We pushed through all of those cold, lonely, painful, Mandalorian-less nights and have FINALLY made it to the new season of "The Mandalorian". Fortunately, I had Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order to scratch my Star Wars itch... at least for a little while. Fallen Order is a mostly satisfying journey in the shoes of Cal Kestis, a Jedi who has the responsibility of protecting the identities of the few remaining Jedi in the universe from the Empire all while slowly (and I do mean SLOWLY) reconnecting with his force powers.

If you have ever wished you could take a few steps in the red and gold armor-plated boots of Iron Man, you are not alone... and there are a handful of games that allow us to live out this part of Tony Stark's alter ego. We may not get to enjoy the wealth, the intelligence, or the other infamous pursuits of the world’s greatest “genius billionaire playboy philanthropist”, but the opportunity to take on the armor-clad portion of Tony Stark has been something I'm sure most of us have longed to do ever since we first watched Tony take to the skies.
SPOILERS FOLLOW for the four people who have not yet watched Avengers: Endgame... the closure of the Iron Man arc may be the single most important story thread weaved in and out of Marvel’s magnum opus, and we are going to take some time to reflect on this, his real world counterpart from the Bible, and hopefully learn a few things about ourselves and our gifts as well.
Who is on your list of the most important heroes in video game history? Let's list a few... Master Chief. Link. Lara Croft. Commander Shepard. Bob from accounting. Solid Snake. Hold on, hold on… let’s just back up the train for a second. Who is “Bob from accounting” and how did he make it onto this list of epic gaming heroes? All of these other gaming icons have a lot in common… they have all saved the world (some multiple times just for extra style points). I don’t recall hearing about “Bob” defeating legions of enemies or watching him heroically sacrifice himself to save billions of lives. I mean, seriously, Bob doesn’t even have his own cubicle. So who is Bob and why does he belong on this list?
Bob, along with Karen the mechanic, Frank the engineer, and Nancy the systems administrator all belong on that list as well… doing the thankless work that has to be done just like all of these other brave souls. They just didn’t get to do it on the frontlines because their specific missions took them elsewhere, playing a supporting role. Join us as we take a look at the importance of supporting roles in not only our video games, but in our real life journey as well!
Pokémon is a franchise with few peers, equally dominating the worlds of gaming, cinema, television, merchandising, and pop culture for decades. There is thinking outside of the box, and then there is Nintendo... thinking about the box ITSELF. Specifically what the box is made of, and if it could be turned into a piano or, you know, a giant robot. ONLY Nintendo could have done this. I have never looked at cardboard and thought, "You know, this would REALLY enhance my video game playing experience. It may seem to be an odd sentiment, but I truly appreciate a quality villain in my video games... as a matter of fact, there is typically a direct correlation between how compelling the antagonist of the story is and how satisfying I find the plot of my adventure. But I find that I don't always appreciate them when I am engaged in battle with them... especially when they seem to be getting the better of me.
Join us as we take a look under the hood of one of the most iconic villains of all time... Darth Vader. And along the way we will discover the purpose of these enemies and why we NEED them... because they will push us farther than our friends could ever carry us.

When I think of great games and your favorite parts of them, a few things come to mind... interesting characters with realistic dialogue, incredible graphics that transport me to another place or time, and an epic soundtrack that sweeps me up into a story that grips us from the title screen to the closing credits. Dynamic inventory systems? Mmmm... maybe not so much. But this often invisible and less than glamorous backbone buried within many of my favorite titles is CRITICAL to the overall enjoyment of the game in more ways then one may think...
Join us as we take a look at the importance of understanding our capacity limitations in our video games as well as in the burdens we carry in our real world!

The most exciting news to come out of this year's Gamescom event wasn't even a game… it was simply a better way to play them. Mere weeks after announcing their exciting partnership with Backbone to create a mobile phone controller based off of the styling of the PS5 DualSense controller, Sony is unleashing their ultimate game playing peripheral… the DualSense Edge. To be fair, I am not one of those players who gets excited about EVERY new controller on the market, but this one is a pretty big deal. Why is this big news? One simple word… customization.
Join us as we unpack the tough decision by Sony to wait until the right time to launch this premium product, even if it is far later than most of us would have preferred to have received it. And along the way we will dive into the final reason some of our dreams are "interrupted" as we finish this series with one final revelation... our dreams have a time and a place for discovery and often a very different time and place for fulfillment. And the path between those two places will often be longer than we prefer... but it is the only path that brings us from discovery through to our destiny.
If you had told me five years ago that the Sonic the Hedgehog game series would mutate into becoming not just one, but the top TWO highest-grossing domestic video game movie releases of ALL TIME with a third one on the way... well, I definitely wouldn't have believed you. But the most interesting part about the unexpected breakout performance of the Sonic movie franchise isn’t just that it has been successful from both a critical and commercial standpoint… it is because the way it started gave NO indication that this would work. As a matter of fact, the fan response to the first iteration of what has now been affectionally named “Ugly Sonic” was SO massively negative that the creators made the incredibly expensive decision to completely throw out their first design of Sonic and all of his animations and start over.
Join us as we take a deeper look at "Ugly Sonic" and the path this character took to redemption from his rocky start... and along the way we will explore the importance of moving forward from our own "Ugly Sonic" starts in life.
Final Fantasy VII has long been regarded as one of the most important and popular releases in gaming history, remaining in many gamers top ten all-time list despite hitting the 25-year anniversary of the original date we all took our first steps in the shoes of spiky-haired protagonist Cloud Strife. I mean… a LOT of games have come out in the last 25 years, and somehow this singular RPG found a way to not only remain iconic and memorable but gain an entirely new fanbase through the Final Fantasy VII remake project that is currently underway. After the cliff-hanger of an ending that we received at the end of the first chapter of the FFVII remake, we were all left wondering what could possibly be coming next for these heroes and the story that we THOUGHT we knew so well. Well, it turns out Square Enix had an even LARGER surprise in store for us, as the next chapter in the Final Fantasy VII remake saga will not be a sequel, but a PREQUEL… we are returning to Crisis Core, an adventure many of us may have missed out on in its' first incarnation. J
oin us as we take a deeper look at the challenging journey Crisis Core took from forgotten gem to the future of the Final Fantasy series through the lens of the story of Ruth and Naomi, two widowed women who went from a nightmare to seeing their dreams come true. It can be hard to wipe the tears from someone else’s eyes when we can’t even see past our own. But as we saw with Naomi and Ruth, it is through our unselfish pursuit of using the gifts the Lord has given us to help others fulfill THEIR God-given dreams that many times the answers to our prayers and the fulfillment of our dreams can be found.
Well, they finally did it… after years of trying to crack the code on handheld gaming with their releases of the PSP, the PSP Go, and the PlayStation Vita, Sony has FINALLY put a handheld gaming unit out on the market that may actually stand the test of time. After multiple false starts and promising products, Sony is now in a position to challenge Nintendo’s dominance in the portable gaming market. Wait a minute… something isn’t right here. Clearly this is a PS5 in handheld form, right? I mean, the distinctive look of the controllers is a clear match for the PS5 controller style… let me read the fine print here. Hmmm… this can’t be right. Sorry everyone, please stand down… this was a false alarm. This isn’t a new handheld console solution from Sony at all… not really. Sure, it IS a new Sony Edition mobile gaming option all right, and through the power of Sony’s remote play service we will be able to scratch the itch to play many of our favorite PlayStation games on the go… but this isn’t a new Sony mobile gaming system. It is a new mobile controller for our phones called “Backbone”, pairing the universally well-regarded Sony PlayStation controller style with the mobile phone many consumers already possess. And perhaps this is the best way for Sony to truly compete in the handheld market… not with their own console, but by partnering what they do best with the strengths of others to make a product that merges their strengths while mitigating their risks and minimizing their flaws. And maybe, just maybe, this is what they should have tried doing in the first place.
Join us as we explore Sony's painful journey in the second part of our series on "Dreams Interrupted: From Discovery to Destiny" and reflect on a challenging truth... when we find ourselves in a situation where our God-given dreams feel stifled but the vision in our heart is compelling us to continue to believe and persevere, it is easy to reach a point of frustration, doubt, and disillusionment. And it is in those moments we need to pray for the partners that we may not have even met yet… undiscovered supporters who will one day serve a vital purpose for the realization of the Lord’s calling on each of our lives. Joseph had his Pharaoh, Moses had his Joshua, Ruth had her Boaz, David had his Jonathan, Mary had her Joseph, Paul had his Silas… as the body of Christ we have been built to not only be codependent on Christ, but also on each other to fulfill the shared destiny that can only be completed by submitted believers working together to serve His purpose.
I can only think of one response to the news that the highly anticipated remake of Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic has been delayed indefinitely… in the immortal words of Luke Skywalker himself, “NOOOOOOOOooooooooo!!!” When the news broke that a vertical slice of the game performed so poorly that the lead design director and art director were terminated from the project and the game has been postponed indefinitely, I can’t say I was surprised. I was absolutely disappointed, but the truth is the writing was on the wall from day one for this game. This game won’t be coming out anytime soon, and it is kind of hard to spin that news into a positive. The interminably long wait for my beloved KOTOR remake begins… again.
Join us as we begin a new series titled "Dreams Interrupted: From Discovery to Destiny" as we explore this disappointing news and reflect on the disappointment we all face when our dreams are interrupted by some very harsh realities... and find some answers in the journeys of the Apostle Paul along the way.
Well… that didn’t take long. Microsoft’s massive acquisition of Activision Blizzard was not expected to endear them to Sony, but since the relationship between the two companies has typically demonstrated a level of professional respect and decorum over the years, we were all hopeful that this dramatic announcement wouldn’t upset the delicate status quo too badly. I mean, sure… Call of Duty is a massive franchise with very few equals in the realm of gaming, and the news that Microsoft would be bringing these titles as well as the rest of Activision Blizzard’s releases to their Xbox Game Pass service on day one of their release was never going to make life easy for Sony. But now that the future of Call of Duty on Sony platforms (or the lack thereof) is beginning to become a little clearer, the relationship between the two competitors is starting to reveal some very real stress fractures.
Join us as we dissect this challenging situation by looking at both sides of the issue, and learn a little bit about what the Bible TRULY means by "blessing our enemies" along the way!
!!!MILD SPOILERS FOR THE FIRST THREE EPISODES OF THE ANDOR SERIES AHEAD!!!
As a life-long Star Wars fan, the last several years have been pretty good to me… while the cinematic offerings have been a bit of a mixed bag, the live-action television shows we have been receiving have been hotter than Mustafar in the summer. And sandwiched between the excellent Obi-Wan Kenobi series and the ongoing adventures of Mando and Ahsoka is a new series designed to provide exposition on the early days of the rebellion featuring Cassian Andor, one of the lead characters from Rogue One. With the first three episodes all dropping on the same day to introduce us to this new series, I went into this show with some VERY high expectations... expectations that were way off the mark.
As I considered the first three episodes of this series and the difference between what I had expected and what I actually received, an uncomfortable truth about more than simply my unrealistic expectations about Andor came to the surface. I was approaching the Andor series in a very similar way that I have found myself praying, reading the Bible, and treating my relationship with the Lord. Join us as we take a deeper look!
SPOILERS AHEAD!!! Seriously, we are going to spoil the daylights out of the new Obi-Wan Kenobi series… so if you have not watched the series through to completion, please proceed at your own peril. Sure, we all knew going into this series that all of the principal characters must not only live but also continue on their predetermined collision course on the Death Star in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, but that DOESN’T mean that there weren’t some really cool surprises in store for us before all of these characters got placed back in their toy box for another ten years. The transformation of the exceptionally powerful Jedi Master/Clone War general that we once knew as Obi-Wan Kenobi into the quiet, unassuming hermit Ben Kenobi was a journey I never knew I needed to take… and now
Join us for the FINAL episode in our series on the dangers of disconnecting as we take this painful journey alongside Obi-Wan, explore the story behind one last letter to the seven churches in Revelation, and learn the secret to "reconnecting"!
After three trilogies of movies as well as multiple spin-off cinematic adventures, animated series, video games, comics, and novelizations, you would THINK that the story of the rise, fall and redemption of Anakin Skywalker has been told as thoroughly as any story in the history of time. You would THINK that, but it seems we would be incorrect… because we NEEDED this Obi-Wan Kenobi series to connect a few more dots much more than we may have realized. A word of warning, SPOILERS ARE AHEAD for those who have not watched the new Obi-Wan Kenobi series through to completion. We are going to go DEEP into the fall of Anakin Skywalker and his emergence as Darth Vader, the iconic villain of the Star Wars franchise… because some very critical information from the Kenobi series that I didn’t even know I needed has finally helped me understand how the heroic Jedi Knight Anakin and the horrific monster that we know as Darth Vader could both somehow inhabit the same body.
Join us as we continue our "Dangers of Being Disconnected" series with a deep dive into the fall of Anakin Skywalker... or more accurately his seduction by the wolf in sheep's clothing... Palpatine. As followers of Christ, we must be incredibly cautious and mindful of the leadership we submit to (1 John 4:1) and the messages we ingest from them (Acts 17:10-11). Not everyone who speaks on His behalf, performs work in His name, or even demonstrates a commitment to our spiritual growth has our best interests in mind. And if we blindly accept what is being poured into our spirits, we may consume things that are not only harmful to our growth but encourage our participation in the very things Christ came to deliver us from in the first place. Let’s reject the comfortable and alluring deception from the “Jezebel” spirit that is just as alive and well today as it was two thousand years ago… Jesus came to deliver us FROM our demons and BREAK our chains of bondage, not teach us how to comfortably live with them.
For a video game controller to serve its’ designated purpose, it has to DO something. It has an expectation of performing specific functions in a manner that supports the completion of my mission objectives… I expect it to respond to my button presses and power auxiliary items that are attached to it, such as my headset. I also have a responsibility to my controller… I have to synchronize it to my console and keep my battery charged. There is a direct correlation to the presence of the power that makes my controller operate and what it is expected to DO once it receives that power… similar to the correlation between faith and works. And as we continue our series on the seven churches from the book of Revelation, it is time we deal with the one that we are probably most familiar with… the church at Laodicea.
Join us as we reflect on the critical truth that we are not saved BY our works, but for the purpose of DOING good works. Our actions and deeds are not a replacement for our faith, but the logical conclusion of what occurs BECAUSE of our faith. Much like a nice, shiny controller that fails to respond to a player’s input, we are little more than paperweights occupying space if we are not actively involved in doing what the Lord has told us to do.
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times… it was the buggiest of times. Mere days after receiving the exciting announcement that Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 had finally made it’s way onto the Nintendo Switch, some pretty bad news followed. Well, I suppose “bad” is a matter of perspective. It is bad news if you planned on actually, you know… FINISHING the game. I suppose if you never planned on completing it, this would save you a lot of time. But for those of us who revere the KOTOR series and have been anticipating playing it, the inability to finish the story due to a game-breaking bug is fairly problematic. And while the developer Aspyr has finally provided a temporary work-around via a cheat code, it is hard to understand how a game of this stature would make it onto virtual store shelves with such a massive and inescapable bug built into it that prevents players from progressing.
Join us for part four of our series on the "Dangers of Disconnecting"... and as we reflect on the truth that the trials we are enduring are not always the result of our own mistakes or failures… but if we approach them with short-sightedness, we will fail to learn the lesson that these hard times were designed to teach us. The presence of challenges in our path does not mean we have failed the Lord or are unworthy of moving forward. Many times, it simply means there is a game-breaking bug in our path that is going to force us to be patient, grow closer to the Lord, and submit to His voice… even if the message we are receiving is to stand by and await further instructions.
Both Microsoft and Bethesda had a lot riding on their showcase this summer… between Microsoft’s spending frenzy to acquire some of the hottest developers on the planet (such as Bethesda) as well as the incredibly UNWELCOME news that Bethesda’s most anticipated release has been delayed to 2023 (Starfield), this show needed to be the gaming equivalent of a grand slam, a game-winning touchdown, and a half-court buzzer beater all in one. And it was the actual gameplay reveal for Starfield, Bethesda’s next major franchise release, that carried the most pressure leading up to the show.
Join us for the third part of our series on the "Dangers of Disconnecting" as we unpack all of the news on Starfield and the reality that one of the largest challenges in making any video game is the pressure to meet the expectations of MANY different people… the press, the publisher, the public, and so many more. And as developers attempt to meet the desires and requirements of each of these distinct audiences while STILL remaining true to the original vision of their game, the pressure to compromise slowly begins to seep in. And this is the same battle the church at Pergamos was facing. The path the Lord has placed us on may not be littered with praise and popularity… neither was His. Achieving the mission His way may mean we miss the deadlines we planned to hit, lead us to places we wouldn’t have chosen, and feel more difficult and painful than it needed to be. But it is only through refusing the shortcuts and denying ourselves the path of least resistance that we will reach the fulness of the vision He has for us and deliver an uncompromised “Starfield” worth waiting for.
For everyone who was wondering what a future looks like in which console gaming exists WITHOUT the actual console, the future is NOW. The first steps into this brave new world have been taken by Samsung, partnering their television technology with Microsoft’s Game Pass service to provide players with the opportunity to play major titles such as Halo Infinite, Microsoft Flight Simulator, and more… without a console, a PC, or even purchasing a physical or digital copy of those games. With nothing more than the right Smart TV (provided by Samsung), a Game Pass subscription (provided by Microsoft), a solid internet connection, and a controller ANYBODY can jump straight into many of the largest and most popular games available without owning a game console of any kind. Microsoft’s cloud-based gaming initiative will finally be unleashed on the world this summer like the “fully armed and operational” battle station that they have been building all along…
Join us as we continue our series on the seven churches in the book of Revelation in part 2, the church at Ephesus and the importance of a continual connection that makes this new console-less future work... and the role it plays in our Christian walk as well.
A page is turning on the book of video game history… a page that may be signaling the end of arguably the most iconic gaming expo in the world… E3. E3, or the Electronic Entertainment Expo (if you are into calling things by their full legal names), has served as one of the industry’s largest combined events for over twenty years, and it has served us well. From providing a stage for some of the largest gaming announcements and reveals in history, to acting as an annual pilgrimage for those connected to the industry, E3 has meant something different to each of us over the years. And if you were fortunate enough to attend one of these in person, there really wasn’t an atmosphere quite like it. But with the announcement that this year’s E3 event was fully cancelled (both in-person and virtually), it may be the beginning of the end for this industry stalwart. Or perhaps the end happened several years ago, and nobody bothered to tell E3.
Join us as we begin our series on the "Dangers of Becoming Disconnected" as we explore the future of E3, the seven churches in the book of Revelation, and what the messages within those letters mean to us today as we start with church at Sardis!
I can’t quite put my finger on why this is true, but for as long as video games have existed gamers have been committed to finding a way to “break” them. Not in a physical sense of smashing them (with the exception of Two Worlds, which I contend truly deserved to be smashed), but in terms of pushing beyond the boundaries of the game to explore what lies on the other side… typically in the hopes of finding a secret level or additional unexplored content. Escaping the walls that the developer created to keep the game on its’ designed narrative path is often part of the fun for many gamers, even if the rewards may not always be very “rewarding”. To be clear, there is a large difference between artificially trying to “break” the game as opposed to fully exploring a game to unlock all of the developer’s intentionally hidden “easter eggs”. Finding all the warp pipes in a Mario game or the hidden skulls in a Halo title? That is designed to be part of the fun as well as a reward for those who search them out. Finding a way to glitch outside of the playable space of the game and getting trapped in some horrible video game “limbo” that doesn’t allow you to either move forward OR return to the original path? That can feel exciting at first… until you realize there is no way back.
Join us as we take a look at Balaam as he attempts one of the most notorious "game-breaking" glitches of all time... and learn a little bit more about why sometimes the donkey knows best.
Star Wars fever may be even higher now than its’ original inception, and as gamers we have been getting some canonical Star Wars games that add to this bounty. Star Wars Battlefront 2 may have been released back in 2017, but thanks to a plot development in the second season of The Mandalorian a key moment from the game has thrust this title back into the limelight. Spoilers lie ahead for those who have not yet finished season 2 of The Mandalorian… and also, what have you been waiting for?
Join us as we take a deeper look at Iden Versio, the playable antagonist/protagonist of Star Wars Battlefront II as well as Mary, the mother of Jesus... and along the way we will reflect on how dramatically the plan they thought they were following diverged from their ACTUAL purpose. And this truth is the same for us as well...our lives may have diverged from our plans, but that doesn’t mean we have been shifted from HIS purpose. He knew where we would be right now, and we are still in a position to fulfill the destiny that He placed inside us. So don’t lose faith in His plan… even if where we are currently at right now isn’t exactly where we thought we would be.
Many developers “say” they are going to continue to support their game after launch, but what they really mean is they will provide a couple of bug patches and throw some DLC content against the wall to see if it sticks before tossing in the towel. If we are REALLY lucky, they will add some additional content on the game’s anniversary date that probably should have been part of the original game in the first place. But that is clearly NOT the case with the Halo: Master Chief Collection… it has been nearly EIGHT YEARS after the release of this title, and we are STILL getting brand new content and free updates. Now, I don’t want to sound ungrateful for all of this extra Halo goodness… I really don’t. It just feels like every time I get a hankering to dust off the ol’ MCC for some classic Halo action, my console always seems to think NOW is the PERFECT time for a 30gb update that renders my game unplayable until it has finished installing. I appreciate the extra content… I truly do. I just wish the timing of these updates didn’t always seem to find a way to coincide with the incredibly small portions of time I have available to play a game.
Join us as we take a deeper look at this “warzone” of automatic updates vs. intentional downloads... and deal with the reality that it runs deeper than just our gaming preferences. It is at the heart of many of the deepest problems that can plague our lives, and I am not talking about our video game installation decisions. What we choose to “download” into our lives is of far greater significance than we may often realize… and if we are not active gatekeepers of what we allow our eyes to see, our minds to ponder, and our souls to ingest, we can unintentionally open ourselves up to harmful content that can damage those things that we value the most…our faith, our relationships, and our commitments.
Well, mark this down under news that NOBODY saw coming… devoid of all of the usual hints and teases that accompany a blockbuster announcement of this magnitude, during the 20th anniversary event Kingdom Hearts 4 was announced this week to a worldwide audience of fans who are already in an uproar over a game that we didn’t even know was in active development. I was anticipating some more remasters, maybe another cellphone game that will be super-confusing and weird, and if we are REALLY lucky maybe they will announce some DLC that is actually worth buying (out of all of those, we actually DID get a cellphone game announcement. And I am sure it will find a way to be super weird). In a business in which it is hard to keep ANY surprise under wraps, the announcement of KH4 is a BIG one… and for a lot of reasons.
Join us as we unpack this news about not only a NEW Kingdom Hearts, but reflect on the importance of moving on to the next arc in OUR journey during this walk of faith that we are on. The Kingdom of Heaven is looking for willing hearts who are here for more than just the consumption of what has already been done… it is time for us to add our hearts to the story. To seek and to save those who are waiting to be set free, one heart for His kingdom at a time
With Microsoft’s combination of Xbox Live and the Game Pass continuing to set the bar for online console gaming, it was only a matter of time before Sony finally decided to provide an equivalent solution for their loyal fan base… and Sony has finally answered that question. Well… kind of… and also not really. Sony’s long-awaited answer is to merge the current benefits of their online multiplayer service with their PlayStation Now game library into one platform… with three separate price points based on your interest in their back catalog and the additional games available from other publishers. To be honest, that sounds a LOT like Game Pass so far. But there is ONE major difference between these two services that may impact your decision to pick up the highest cost version of PS+ available… while Microsoft includes ALL of their first-party releases (Halo Infinite, Gears, Forza, Flight Simulator etc.) on Game Pass the very first day they are released, Sony will not be doing the same thing.
Join us as we take a deeper look at the issue both Sony and Microsoft are facing and the identical conundrum that most of us struggle with in life... are we giving our very best to God? Or just the rest of what we have left of our time, energy, and abilities? Let's dive in!
It was HIM… it was always him. Long before I was taunted by villains like Sephiroth and Liquid Snake, and years prior to the first time I had someone troll me over my headset while playing Halo, there was this DOG. This dog was the first character who ever damaged my gaming self-esteem and made me actually TALK BACK to the screen. Bowser and Ganon may have been the first “big bad bosses” that I ever faced, but they never hurt me the way that this dog did. It was that LAUGH… that painful act of betrayal from man’s best friend as he popped up from the bushes to mock my failure after missing the ducks flying across the screen. I was supposed to be there hunting ducks… but they never felt like the actual enemies I was trying to defeat in the game. It was always the dog. I highly doubt that I am the only person who wanted to keep shooting at the screen when the original gaming “hater” popped up with his scornful laugh after a failed level. You know you did too… and we both know he had it coming.
Join us as we take a deeper dive into our very first "trolling" experience and learn a powerful lesson through the process. Engaging in pointless battles with the “Duck Hunt dogs” in our lives is more than just a waste of our time and energy… it pulls us off of our mission and gives them their only path to victory. Don’t allow the laughing images of those who hold our past against us and mock our present attempts at change to steal our future… their insults are hollow and in time they will only be remembered as a footnote in your story.

They say you should never meet your heroes… I guess we are about to find out if that is true. Move over Mando… there is a brand new “helmet removing” controversy brewing. In a move that is quoted as being “twenty years in the making”, the new Halo television series is taking the incredibly bold step of removing the helmet of the Master Chief, allowing fans to fully see this iconic character’s face for the very first time. Since the part will not be played by the actor who has provided the voice of the Chief in each of his previous gaming adventures, our view of the Master Chief will be changed permanently (and literally) the moment his ever-present helmet is removed.
Is this really a big deal? You know, to see a face… and a fictional character’s face, at that? What does it really change? And how much does it matter if our hero looks the way we expected? In many ways, mankind’s struggle to accept the reality of Jesus Christ as the physical representation of the living God has been mired in this exact same predicament… for a period of approximately 33 or so years, God came down, took off his helmet, and let us see Him for exactly who He truly is. And He did it as a human… with a face we could see, with a heart we could break, and with hands we would scar. The face that He showed us certainly surprised everyone living at the time… and it might surprise you, too. And we may find that we are able to relate to the face He revealed under the helmet much more than we realize.

Dino Crisis fans, it looks like our looooooong wait is finally over and Capcom is finally giving us the sequel we have been asking for… wait. WAIT. Ummmm… that’s not a new Dino Crisis. What is this… EXOPRIMAL? What is an Exoprimal? How is it that Capcom finally pulled the lever marked “make a dinosaur video game” and something other than a new Dino Crisis is being made? It kind of feels like a cruel bait and switch, as I along with my fellow long-suffering fans of Dino Crisis kind of feel a bit misled. I know that it is unfair to think that every dinosaur-based video game has to be a new Dino Crisis, but COME ON. This is from Capcom, the studio behind the Dino Crisis games, it has random dinosaurs appearing for no real good reason, it features a red-headed protagonist with a hair cut that bears at least a little resemblance to the main character from Dino Crisis… there is even a former producer from Dino Crisis on the Exoprimal team. I can’t help but feel that this new game is willing to give me a few of the pieces of what I am looking for from a Dino Crisis sequel/reboot… but just enough to remind me that what I was really asking for isn’t happening.
Join us as we reflect on this as well as that reality that we are more prone to “Dino Crisis” substitutions in our lives than we may care to admit… most of us have prayed to the Lord for some specific requests, but all too often we accept the very first “answer” that comes… a response that may not have come from Him and does not have our best interests at heart.

There is an ancient and wise proverb that reads, “Always be yourself, unless you can be Batman. Then always be Batman”. But if I am being honest, being Batman seems like a bit of a mixed bag. Sure, you get some amazing perks like the money, the cool car, the suit full of gadgets, and that whole brooding super-hero gimmick… but this whole “Batman” experience comes with some pretty gnarly side-effects that seem to exist in EVERY incarnation of the caped crusader. And I’m not just referring to the physical and emotional scars that come with the being “Batman”… I’m talking about the incredibly complicated destiny that Bruce Wayne has to live with.
Join us as we take a deeper look at our lives and the reality we may have more in common with the world's greatest detective than we realize. All of us endure unique trauma and drama during the course of our lives… experiences that are undesired, may feel unfair, and seem completely unnecessary. And many times, we may perceive these painful origin stories as events that not only negatively impacted our emotional and physical well-being… they redirected the course of our lives in ways that prevented us from achieving our original goals, cost us our dreams, and maybe even prevented us from feeling like a fully functioning member of society. But the traumas we endure in life either unfairly define us or powerfully refine us… and we choose which of these two occur.

After the incredible blockbuster acquisition announcements that started this year from Microsoft (acquiring Activision Blizzard) and Sony (buying Bungie), one could be forgiven if they forgot that there is a THIRD hardware company on the playing field… Nintendo. And true to form, Nintendo responded to all of this “content war” madness in a manner that is as “Nintendo” as anything they have ever done… by reminding us that they made Wii Sports ONCE, and they can do it AGAIN. Soooo, let me get this straight… Xbox makes one of the largest entertainment purchases of ALL time with a deal that will change the landscape of gaming forever, Sony punches back by picking up the studio that made Xbox’s greatest hit, and Nintendo breaks out an old copy of Wii Sports, cleans it up a little, and brings it to the party? Well, to be fair they are also digging up a few other old gems like bringing more tracks to Mario Kart, rebooting Advance Wars, and giving us fresh games in the Mario Strikers and Kirby franchises… but make no mistake, they are staying the course and continuing to do what they do best. Nintendo marches to the beat of its’ own drum and honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Join us for the final part of our series on the "Content Wars" as we explore the actions that Nintendo DIDN'T take. Nintendo didn’t need to buy or acquire ANYBODY to remain competitive in the market… they simply needed to stay committed to the course through the hard times and remain true to who they are. They used what they learned from those experiences to shape their future, embracing those hard-earned lessons to build a better mousetrap. And the lesson from both Nintendo and Joseph are the same… the hardest part of our commitment to the Lord is not simply making the commitment but KEEPING it when the times get hard. Let’s not allow these pits and prisons to weaken our commitment, shake our faith, or lead us to believe that we have been forsaken… these cocoons are designed to reinforce us in ways that can only happen in these challenging environments. We WILL victoriously emerge from these lonely, dark and dreary circumstances… and when we do, we will have a powerful story of the Lord’s provision to tell, a deeper strength to share, and a fully developed pair of wings to carry us to the higher places He has promised.

At first, we thought this was a joke… like maybe someone high up in Sony was trying to perform a micro-transaction purchase to buy more in-game “glimmer” for their Destiny account, they inadvertently clicked the wrong button, and now they have accidentally purchased the entire company and are too embarrassed to admit it was just a mis-click. But no, this really did happen, and these content wars are escalating QUICKLY. A matter of days after reports came in that Sony lost an estimated 20 BILLION dollars in value when Microsoft announced the acquisition of Activision Blizzard and their massive portfolio of studios and franchises, Sony struck back with a little purchase of their own. For the much lower price of $3.6 billion dollars, Sony has picked up Bungie, the studio that is currently producing the Destiny series and was responsible for creating a little franchise that is virtually synonymous with the Xbox… Halo. So, this begs the question… is this an actual acquisition or merely an incredibly expensive act of asset denial on the part of Sony?
Join us as we try to answer this question and grapple with how this reflects on our walk with Christ... we choose each day which part of our selves we feed… our flesh or our spirit. Feeding both equally is a fool’s errand… as Christ so clearly pointed out, none of us can serve two masters (Matthew 6:24). So, what will we make “provision” for in our daily life? And what assets will we deny to our flesh in order to ensure our spirit receives the top priority? Denying our flesh is not something we do to EARN Christ… it is something we do to LEARN to be like Him.

Love them or hate them, Xbox has done the unthinkable this week by making one of the largest acquisition decisions in entertainment history… Microsoft is purchasing Activision Blizzard, a group of development studios responsible for some of the largest and most recognizable franchises on the planet. From the venerable Call of Duty series to fan faves like Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo and Overwatch, the exclusive rights to the original titles in these series, the teams that create them, and all their future games will now fall under the Microsoft banner. And this massive power-play is coming at a cost that clearly demonstrates Microsoft’s long-term plans to remaining a major player in the game industry for years to come… over 68 billion (with a capital B) dollars. While their role as either the hero or the villain in this emerging “Content War” is a matter of perspective, there is one thing that cannot be denied… Microsoft is fully committed to being part of the story all the way to the endgame.
Xbox has clearly demonstrated what a recklessly devoted level of commitment looks like… all their chips have been pushed to the center of the table. They are ALL IN, and their actions have left no doubt that they are fully dedicated to the world of gaming both now and in the future. And when it comes to our relationship with the Lord, we have to be honest and ask ourselves… are we prepared to do the same?

The concept of spiritual warfare may seem a little abstract or even frightening to consider, but much like an ice glacier example what exists below the surface is far deeper than what we can observe from above the water. We have an adversary (1 Peter 5:8), and he is committed to our destruction. The enemy forces against us are highly organized and disciplined, but they are NOT to be feared. They are to be FOUGHT. Our victory is not just assured… it has already HAPPENED (Colossians 2:15). Christ is not at war with satan… He has already vanquished that enemy and is greater than him in EVERY way (1 John 4:4). But until that final judgment day, we FIGHT.
Perhaps your narrative seemed designed to make you fear the evil villain of the story like in Fable, and to fall under his power until you submit to him. But that is NOT the ending we have to choose. Our enemy may seem scary, with powerful strongholds that we can’t imagine defeating. But we have forces fighting for us that are just waiting for your prayers to release them to do their work… through our dedicated prayer and fasting these mountains won’t just move. They will RUN.

In this fourth episode of our series on "When the Mountain Doesn't Move", let us prayerfully consider our TRUE motivations for each mountain we are trying to move. While some mountains exist in our lives for a very specific reason, and other mountains require a deep period of reaching out to God and holding on until the entire mountain moves, there are some mountains that have ALREADY moved in response to someone else’s prayer. And if we are willing to allow the Lord look deep down inside of our hearts and reveal our deepest intentions and motives to us, we will have the wisdom to tell the difference.

How much of God do we really want? And how little will we settle for? Luke 11:9-10 is a very well known piece of Scripture in which Christ tells us to “Ask and it will be given to you, Seek and you will find, Knock and the door will be opened to you.” Why all three of these? Why not just “Ask and it will be done for you”? Because not every prayer is going to be answered that simply. Sometimes we get what we ask for from the Lord with a simple prayer of faith… and sometimes we have to seek Him a little bit more. Sometimes after asking AND seeking we find ourselves in front of a locked door that is blocking our path. At any point along this journey that we choose to stop, we will leave with a lovely selection of parting gifts and all the prizes we have already won, but not the FULL VICTORY that lies on the other side of that door. We will still be surrounded by “tree people”. But if we press on for that second, third, or however many “touches” it will take before our full prayer is answered, He WILL open that door.
It took over SEVEN YEARS for Super Mario 3D World to finally get that second touch, but it will be well worth it when everyone who missed out the first time finally gets to see what all the fuss was about. Hopefully He doesn’t make you wait seven years in between touches for your miracle… truth be told I am just now seeing the full answers to some of my prayers that were MANY YEARS in the making. But He has been faithful to His promises and He has never failed to move a mountain that He promised to move… as long as we are determined not to settle for less than His very best.

What mountain are you wrestling with that threatens to wear you out, causing you to become faint of heart? While some of these mountains may be MORE than mere mountains (you will have to tune in to our next podcast for THAT one), as we can see in the parable of the persistent widow that there are some mountains that can only be moved through the faithful, continual persistence of our prayers. The Lord rewards those who DILIGENTLY seek Him. This is a perpetual, continual, intentional action. It is not a STAND of faith, but a WALK of faith that we are called to. There are no moving sidewalks here, and the most important prayers can often take the longest to be answered. The coming of the Messiah was first recorded in the book of Genesis, but Jesus did not take on flesh and blood until THOUSANDS of years later. Now it is unlikely you will have to wait that long for the mountain YOU are praying for to finally move, but the more critical the burden/mountain, the more persistence we will have to show to take hold of the throne and seek and answer to our prayers.
I didn’t need to memorize every song to win on Just Dance… just one. And if you commit to praying that ONE prayer… holding on to that ONE verse… standing on that ONE promise… and singing that ONE song, you will claim your victory, too. You only have to pray one day longer than your mountain was prepared to stay.

As a young believer I had mental images similar to the concepts from Control as I read Bible stories about Peter walking on water (Matthew 14:29), or finding enough money in the mouth of a caught fish to pay taxes (Matthew 17:27). But as both the literal and figurative mountains in my life seemed to be quite content with remaining in place, I started to wonder if I was doing it all wrong. Sometimes the people I prayed for would still die… sometimes the situations in my life didn’t improve, and sometimes even got worse. So it’s time for some answers. Join us for part one of our series, "When the Mountain Doesn't Move"!

We have been looking at ourselves through the broken and distorted mirror of that VR headset long enough… and we have fought enough battles against shadows that only we can see. It is time to forgive ourselves with the same level of forgiveness that Christ extends to ALL of God’s children. Jesus didn’t die the most savage death ever recorded so we could walk on eggshells through life in fear that His sacrifice wasn’t good enough to fully free us. It was enough for me, it was enough for you… it was enough for ALL of us (John 8:36). Let’s forgive ourselves today the same way Christ has forgiven us… without restrictions.

This is not a call to go tracking down everyone who has ever hurt us and inform them that we have forgiven them… honestly, that may go very poorly unless His Spirit has specifically led us in that direction. This is about RELEASING them from what they have done… not because they are apologetic, because they may NEVER be. Not because they deserve it, because none of us do. But because the level of forgiveness we want from our Father is absolute mercy and grace for ALL of our sins, we must go and do likewise. Unpack that box today… not for them, but for YOU. If we want to be like Christ, we must remember that as He innocently suffered and die for the sins of others He had one thing to say about it…
Luke 23:34 Then Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do."
