On April 21, 1970, Tulsans paid $4 (advance tickets were $3.50) to experience the Joe Cocker’s Mad Dogs & Englishmen Tour (what would eventually be regarded as one of the most legendary tours in concert history). The ringmaster/bandleader of the sprawling tour was Tulsa’s Leon Russell, who was springboarded to fame by his presence on the tour.

Jimmie Tramel called Reservation Dogs, "the most Oklahoma thing on television so far." With shot-in-Oklahoma movie "Killers of the Flower Moon" recent release, it has been a big year for Indigenous storytelling through film and TV.
Tramel and James Watts also talk about the next major media project with an Oklahoma focus, “Lawmen: Bass Reeves.” A former slave, Reeves was the first African American U.S. deputy marshal west of the Mississippi River. Reeves, who worked primarily in Oklahoma (then Indian Territory) and Arkansas, was responsible for 3,000-plus arrests and spent the twilight of his life as a police officer in Muskogee.

Tulsa World Scene's Grace Wood, Jimmie Tramel and James Watts usually preview upcoming Scene features in this podcast. However, Watts opens this week's episode noting that the Tulsa run of the Tony Award-winning revival of “Oklahoma!”, which was scheduled to be at the Tulsa PAC June 17-19, has been postponed.
Officials with Celebrity Attractions and the Tulsa PAC made the announcement Wednesday, saying the decision came in light of the recent mass shooting at the Natalie Medical Building on the Saint Francis Health System campus.

- “The Running Kind,” a recently revised and expanded country music legend Merle Haggard biography from David Cantwell, steers readers through the Hag’s life and career by way of his music. A feature from Jimmie Tramel is coming this weekend.
- FarmBar, which was forced to close earlier this year when a fire destroyed part of the building in which it is located, will reopen some time next month.

Tulsa World Scene's Jimmie Tramel and James Watts talk about a story from Oak Ridge Boys lore: In 1975, Tulsa-based music impresario Jim Halsey liked (and heard) what he saw from a gospel quartet with designs on transitioning to country music. Halsey told the Oak Ridge Boys he felt they were three minutes from stardom.
The Oak Ridge Boys will be reunited with Halsey (they refer to their longtime manager as “the Godfather”) when they return to Tulsa for a Saturday, April 30 performance at The Cove inside the River Spirit Casino.
