In today’s podcast, I cover why new coaches should stop obsessing over finding their niche — and what they should focus on instead to actually grow their business. If you haven’t hit $100,000 a year yet, your priority isn’t picking the perfect niche — it’s connecting with people, sharing your offer experientially, and building real conversations that lead to clients.

Welcome to the Coach's Journey Podcast: How to win a $25k (or more) coaching client 🎙️

Are you a coach? Tired of getting low-paying clients? Tune into this incredible episode! 🔥

👥 Hosts of the Coach's Journey Podcast:

Join Dr. Sherry and co-host Faisal Ensaun as they dive into a topic that every coach in the world wants to discuss: How to land high-ticket clients, those willing to invest 25 grand or more for your services.

💼 Three Critical Ingredients:

Discover the three critical ingredients to consistently land high-paying clients in the range of 25,000 or more.

1️⃣ Relationships: Building authentic connections and trust is the foundation. Your network matters and your ability to connect with others can significantly impact your success in the coaching business.

2️⃣ Follow-Up and Nurturing: Understand the importance of follow-up and nurturing plans. Not everyone says yes right away, and nurturing potential clients is essential to converting them into paying clients. Make offers, keep in touch, and ensure you maintain the connection.

3️⃣ Offering Value: Make compelling offers to your potential clients. They might not sign up immediately, but offering value consistently can help warm them up over time.

Remember, these strategies work to help you grow your coaching business and secure high-ticket clients. Don't be discouraged by rejections; use them as opportunities for improvement and continue nurturing your leads. You can't expect different results if you don't make offers! Dr. Sheri and Faisal sit down to discuss the competence hierarchy and its application in coaching. The first level mentioned is unconscious incompetence, where a person lacks skill or knowledge but is unaware of it. The hosts reflect on their experiences of realizing their incompetence when faced with clients outside their typical scope. This realization leads them to conscious incompetence, where they acknowledge their shortcomings and actively seek to improve through certifications, learning, and connecting with more experienced individuals. The video also touches on conscious competence, where skills are developed but require intentional effort, and unconscious competence, where skills become natural and intuitive. Dr. Sheri and Faisal highlight the cyclical nature of competence, where individuals may challenge themselves to new areas and temporarily regress to conscious incompetence. They emphasize the importance of recognizing and embracing the learning journey without internalizing feelings of inadequacy.

In this video, Dr. Sheri and Faisal discuss where coaches typically spend their time and where they should focus their efforts. They highlight the common tendency for coaches to spend a significant amount of time-consuming information, buy programs, and constantly learning. While learning is essential, it can become problematic when it hinders action and implementation. They challenge coaches to pause their reading and learning and instead focus on taking action to move their business forward. They also address the lack of clarity and overwhelm that coaches often face, personal challenges, and lack of confidence. The hosts suggest that coaches allocate around 10 to 12 hours per week for their business and provide guidelines on how to spend that time effectively, including coaching others, seeking feedback, prospecting, and engaging in sales activities. They stress the importance of consistent effort and avoiding the all-or-nothing mindset. Ultimately, this video provides coaches with a clear understanding of where they should invest their time to achieve success in their coaching business.

Today's podcast episode explores ways to supercharge revenue and impact a coaching business. We discuss key areas, including starting a successful membership program and achieving consistent cash flow. When establishing a membership program, it's essential to be clear on what it includes and to prospect clients through webinars or strategy sessions to determine the level of support needed.

Entrepreneurs should also be creative and imagine their ideal model before developing a framework that brings their vision to life. To achieve consistent cash flow, coaches can productize services with high-ticket packages but should also consider group coaching models to provide clients with more specific and dedicated feedback. Starting small with one person allows coaches to scale their business to a level that offers a central place for clients to come together and support each other. By taking these steps, coaches can generate long-term business success that balances time and money.

Today we're discussing how to start a successful membership program, which can take on various forms, such as evergreen or hybrid models. First, it's essential to be clear on what the membership includes -- the number of sessions, workshops, recordings, and other resources such as a community area. Then, coaches can prospect in the usual way, through webinars, one-on-one conversations, or strategy sessions to help them decide what level of support the client needs and whether one-on-one or group coaching would be more appropriate based on the client's goals and financial situation.

Long-term business success involves many factors, such as sales and marketing, forecasting, and balancing time and money. A lot of value comes from being creative when developing a membership model. Entrepreneurs should envision the ideal model for their business, have fun with the process, and work backward to create a strategy that brings their vision to life.

Today we're talking about consistent cash flow in coaching. This is a crucial problem because money determines whether coaches can focus on business growth or survival. One option is to productize services by selling high-ticket priced packages; however, this approach requires coaches to always look for clients and may only be sustainable in the short term.

Solving the scalability problem means coaches should not let the fear of starting small prevent them from creating a successful coaching business. One of the benefits of group coaching models is they can begin with just one person. Starting small allows coaches to provide more specific and dedicated feedback to clients. As a coach's capacity to manage group models increases, the business can scale to a level that offers a central place for clients to come together and support each other.

Collaboration is a critical element for introverted and extroverted coaches to expand their coaching businesses successfully. Establishing meaningful connections in real-life situations, sharing stories, and socializing can lead to productive collaborations. In addition, having a clear and profound vision aligned with values can help coaches attract like-minded individuals and generate opportunities for cooperation.

Connecting with others with similar principles and objectives is vital to effective collaborations. However, working with people with diverse perspectives and strengths can challenge assumptions and behaviors, provide valuable feedback, and complement one's skills and abilities. Finding potential partners requires seeking feedback, connecting with various people, and observing how people work. Openness to opportunities, proactive maintenance of relationships, and trial and error are essential in creating successful enterprises. Coaches should collaborate with different people to amplify their business's impact, even though seeking those similar to themselves may be natural.

Collaboration is crucial for coaches, including introverts, to build a successful business. Connecting with others in real-life situations can provide valuable context for your coaching. Sharing stories, taking pictures, and engaging socially can all lead to fruitful partnerships.

Having a clear and meaningful vision is also essential for attracting like-minded individuals and creating effective collaborations. A deeper vision tied to one's values can initiate the reticular activating system (RAS) and generate potential cooperative opportunities. Long-term thinking and planning can appeal to the right people, and being proactive in maintaining relationships can lead to enhanced collaboration experiences.

Collaboration can be challenging, but it is essential for success. To find the right associates, aligning with others regarding values and vision is vital. However, it is also beneficial to cooperate with people who have diverse perspectives and strengths. Doing so can challenge one's assumptions and behaviors, provide valuable feedback, and fill gaps in one's skills and abilities.

Identifying potential cohorts requires putting oneself in situations where feedback can be received, connecting with various people, and observing how people work. Clarity comes through action and trial and error. Therefore, it is essential to be open to opportunities and ask for areas of partnership. While it is natural to seek out people like oneself, it is crucial to collaborate with different people to amplify certain things in business.

People often have reservations about collaborating with a partner or group. At its core, collaboration is a relationship; and most of us have been burned by a relationship, whether personal or professional., in the past. This creates a continued challenge around overcoming the pain of developing enough trust to work with other people. Our brains want to protect us, so it’s often easier to remember the hurts and negative outcomes of previous experiences more clearly than the positive ones. Coaches interested in collaborating in their business should consider what type of collaboration makes the most sense for their business at the time and look to work with people whose skill sets are complementary rather than oppositional.

Modern technology has vastly increased the ability of people to connect more deeply at a distance. The implementation of video as a common form of communication has become the next best thing to being in person as it provides an opportunity to view someone’s body language, mannerisms, facial expressions, and style. This formulates a greater sense of who someone is more so than can be determined through a letter, email, or phone call. Essentially, technology expanded our ability to develop trust and establish a community with those who would otherwise remain strangers. As a species we are inherently drawn to people who are like us in order to form communal ties; the ability to connect on a larger scale has led to the opportunity to increase community relations.

During times of emotional crisis or economic uncertainty, many coaches worry their business will suffer because current or potential clients may feel the need to reduce their expenses. However, these situations often create a greater need for coaches because they can help their clients by providing a supportive and non-judgmental space for them to express their feelings and concerns. While financial turmoil will negatively impact some people’s ability to pay for coaching, others will find immense value in the service because they need guidance most during these times.

Coaches can help clients develop a growth mindset and sense of resilience by encouraging them to identify underlying needs and values. This provides room for clients to see their challenges as opportunities for learning and growth rather than insurmountable obstacles. Coaches can also assist their clients in recognizing their strengths and resources, helping them build confidence in their ability to navigate difficult times and make positive changes in their lives.

An economic crisis can cause panic and overwhelming stress-related emotions. Since the body cannot objectively distinguish between tangible and perceived threats, it responds by activating the part of the brain that triggers quick reactions to ensure survival. However, most stressful situations someone will encounter are not immediately life-threatening; therefore, it is critical to learn how to use logic in one’s responses rather than instinct. Coaches can assist their clients in achieving this by helping them to utilize tools that acknowledge the feeling that is being experienced and the specific circumstances that are causing them. This allows the rational brain to move through the chaos and enables clients to think critically about the situation and determine the best course of action based on the identified pros and cons.

As a coach, recognizing and working through emotions is vital. Coaches don’t need to understand their clients to help them fully. Powerful coaching occurs when both coach and client may feel uncomfortable, and it’s crucial to be aware of one’s own emotions. A coach’s role is to ask probing questions, avoid telling clients what to do, and focus on helping them expand their perspective rather than fixing their problem. Coaches support clients in dealing with fear and believe in their client’s potential for growth.

Adept coaches can accelerate their clients’ progress in just a few months, achieving results that might have taken years to accomplish without guidance. Rather than dictating the action, coaches help clients clarify their goals and develop strategies to overcome obstacles that may be holding them back. Coaches do not necessarily need to be experts in their clients’ fields, as their primary role is to ask thought-provoking questions that inspire momentum. However, to be successful, coaches must continually work to overcome their own personal and professional challenges, or they will not be able to help others reach their full potential.

One of the biggest mistakes in coaching is not spending enough time on personal development. It’s an investment that will have a guaranteed return regardless of your business venture. Prioritizing this can improve your coaching skills, expand your knowledge and insights, and enhance your credibility with clients seeking guidance. Additionally, the most successful entrepreneurs participate in professional memberships and masterclasses – communities in which shared learning can majorly impact one’s personal and professional growth. People naturally learn in social environments, and coaches can find direction for their own business journeys through the support of a professional community.

When you’re starting your coaching business, it’s easy to get caught up in the fear of not being good enough. Many coaches will put off reaching out to clients until they feel that everything in their business is set up seamlessly; unfortunately, this is one of the biggest mistakes that new coaches make because it can set your business back by months or even years. This desire comes from the fear of being out of one’s comfort zone; humans are social creatures, and we base many opinions on positive or negative reputations. Therefore, it is logical to want to present a polished and perfectly designed business. Ultimately, confidence in one’s competence as a coach does not come from a flashy website, it comes from taking action and making connections.

Coaching Mastery Community (CMC) was born out of a need in the coaching world to create a space in which coaches could improve their craft. Along the way, seven core values have been established that act as the guiding principles for the community. They encompass the caliber of input through continual coaching, the pursuit of mastery, and leaning into the community. This is balanced by highlighting the importance of output that focuses on having a heart for high-value giving. From these ideals, CMC has grown into a prominent source of encouragement and growth for coaches around the globe.

The remaining, yet no less important, values of the Coaching Mastery Community are: We Grow Faster in the Community, Always Be Coached, Delivering High Value, and Getting Highly Paid. These principles further express the standard to which CMC members are held. Community is crucial for growth and facilitates the opportunity for continual coaching in order to avoid stagnation. Replenishing ideas and perspectives upon a solid foundation creates a capacity for coaches to uphold a yearning to provide excellent service and support, and feel validated in the expectation that a quality service is worthy of desirable compensation.

Three of CMC’s core values to succeed in the coaching profession are explained. The Relentless Pursuit of Mastery, Embracing Mastery as a Journey Not a Destination, and Giving to Grow all put emphasis on a coach’s responsibility to pursue inner work. Coaches must remain open and preserve the connection to their story in order to maintain a drive for continuous improvement. Remembering that the process and experience of growth are equally as valuable as the result, will produce roots that ground coaches in their original mission to provide guidance to those who need it most and with whom they align.

Entrepreneurship is often romanticized, but it involves an emotional rollercoaster that few people talk about. It can take years of hard work to achieve overnight success, and the stress of building a business can take a toll on both the entrepreneur and their loved ones. Even coaches, who help others manage their emotions, can struggle with the ups and downs of starting a business. However, the lessons learned through that venture, such as learning to communicate one’s vision, can make someone a better coach and help to ensure that the sacrifices made are worth the reward.

Coaching others can increase self-confidence and aid in building a successful business. Many coaches lack knowledge of building a business making it vital to understand the various necessary components. Prospecting is crucial in the initial stages; getting into frequent conversations can help coaches identify who they connect with, thereby determining their ideal client. The journey to a coaching career can be varied; from employment as a coach to building a community, one must be aware of one’s financial and emotional capacity in order to grow sustainably. Having a clear vision and being open to feedback from others, who understand one’s vision and goals, can help coaches identify the necessary tools and order in which to construct their company.

Entrepreneurship is often glamorized, but the emotional rollercoaster it entails is seldom discussed. Building a business can take a long time, and the process can be challenging for the entrepreneur and their loved ones; especially given that many coaches lack the knowledge of building a business, which can make navigating the ups and downs difficult – even for someone who makes a living helping others analyze their emotional experiences. However, the lessons learned through the venture, and the process of coaching others, can boost one’s self-confidence and can help make one a better coach.

While some people may become employed as a coach, others may prefer to build a part or full-time business or community. The route to coaching is varied; as a result, coaches should identify their unique path and focus on prioritizing the pieces that matter most in building the career they want. Having a clear vision, and being able to communicate and include loved ones in the journey to its fulfillment help ensure that the reward is worth the sacrifices that were made.

As a coach, it is your responsibility to remain present during a coaching session; keep your focus on your client. The power of effective questioning lies within you; and if you are too preoccupied with what to ask next, you may miss opportunities to ask the right questions. While it is helpful to have a plan and intentionality in guiding the session toward the client’s goals, don’t be afraid to let your client lead you in determining what would serve their needs best at that time. Ultimately, the questions you ask can open your client to potential change and new perspectives.

Effective communication between a coach and client is often overcomplicated unnecessarily. It is the simple questions that help clients dig deeper within themselves for the right answer rather than a perfectly crafted inquisition by the coach. Open-ended questions are essential to gain insight into the client’s thoughts and feelings, and it’s important to understand the client’s roles and responsibilities without projecting one’s own biases onto them. Coaches should focus on powerful questions to expand knowledge and bring about change. Trust the process of coaching – it is a simple dialogue that can lead a coaching session in unexpected directions. Noticing important cues such as pauses or shifts in body language, tonality, and emotion is a result of being present in the moment with a client. Coaches who create major impact within their practice not only know how to ask questions of others but continue their own internal work by asking these same questions of themselves.

Effective questioning skills can help coaches create meaningful interactions with clients; however, it’s not as complicated as one might think. Simple, open-ended questions are best for gaining insight into clients’ thoughts and feelings. Coaches should remain present and focus on their clients; approaching the session with topics in mind can help guide the conversation, but one must be mindful not to project one’s own biases onto the client while also allowing space for the client to lead the session and determine what will serve their needs best at that moment.

Noticing cues such as pauses or changes in body language can provide valuable information about clients’ emotions and underlying motivations. Coaches who are able to ask powerful questions and expand their client’s, as well as their own, knowledge, are more likely to bring about change. Coaches should trust the process; it’s a simple dialogue that can lead in unexpected directions. The most impactful coaches are those who not only ask questions of their clients but also engage in self-reflection and personal growth.

As an industry, coaching is in its babyhood; while there are organizations that provide training and credentials, there is not yet a consensus on a standard of ethics. Thus, it is incumbent upon active coaches who are pioneering the industry to be mindful of whether their interactions with potential clients are conducted in an ethical manner. These encounters will impact whether someone views future prospects to be coached in a positive or negative light. This is why permission and agreements are the two biggest elements of getting into a conversation that could lead to a coaching relationship. Focusing on these aspects creates an opportunity to provide genuine value because coaches can listen for components of challenges or goals. Asking the potential client if they would like help in those areas demonstrates a desire to provide service and allows space for the client to move forward with intention.

There is no difference between creating content for paying clients and publishing content for public consumption; marketing is an essential component for both avenues. If a coach wants to build their own business rather than coaching within an existing community or company, then they must be intentional with their marketing strategy in order to create a community built on connection and authenticity which are necessary to developing trust with clients. Many coaches believe that they must possess an aptitude for content creation and proficiency for sales before they can successfully market their business; however, the confidence they are seeking comes from taking action; it’s experiential, not conceptual.

Ant Hodges, a marketer and coach, suggests that the most effective way to coach is to start with group coaching before moving on to one-on-one coaching. Group coaching allows clients to interact with others who are going through similar experiences, providing a sense of community and support that can be incredibly beneficial. It is also more cost-effective for clients and can be a more efficient use of the coach's time. Once clients have completed group coaching, they can then move on to one-on-one coaching for more personalized attention and a deeper dive into individual challenges and goals. Ant's approach to coaching is collaborative and requires both coach and client to be fully invested in the process.

Hodges shares his view of coaching, which he believes is a process that helps people realize that they need to make changes. He distinguishes coaching from training and mentoring, explaining that coaching involves asking questions, training provides skills and strategies, and mentoring involves walking alongside the client. Hodges also shares his journey in coaching and marketing, and the challenges of having a foot in both worlds. He talks about how he transitioned from selling his coaching services based on time to selling based on value and transformation.

Expert Coach and Marketer Ant Hodges explains his journey of entrepreneurship: the failures, successes, transitions, and lessons learned along the way. After the international economic recession in 2009 brought his first graphic design business to an abrupt end, Ant found himself having to seek traditional employment in order to support his family and pay off debts brought about by the closure of his company.

A desire to level up led Ant to explore training as a coach. This enabled him to create a new scalable business model that includes diversification of services and a supportive team. Focusing on the distinction among coaching, training, and mentorship, Ant has been able to provide service to clients at multiple levels of their business journey. His knowledge of pushing through fear, order-of-service optimization, and mistakes to avoid are enough to get any coach moving in the right direction.

The gap between scarcity and abundance mindsets is growing as we move further into the information age. It was common, in business, to follow the model of competition and not let others know what you have going on for fear that they would steal it or somehow undermine your efforts.

Collaboration or working in a supportive network is a foreign concept to those who subscribe to that old way of thinking; but it’s the most natural formula to follow in a world where you can find information on nearly any topic, for free. An abundant mindset does not push others forward at your expense; it leads to trust, growth, and excellence.

Many people transition into coaching after having a full career in another field. Yet it’s common to see coaches in this scenario neglect utilizing the experiences in their former careers to bolster their coaching business. Valuable skills, such as creating systems or mapping processes, that may have been learned while working in a different industry are transferable to coaching clients.

Leveraging skills displays authenticity that is tangible not only to clients but to other coaches. As coaching communities grow, those with more experience are able to help newer coaches navigate the pitfalls of establishing a business. This mentorship mentality heightens the capacity of skilled coaches and ultimately provides better service for clients.

Leveraging knowledge from a prior career can enhance a coach’s ability to help their clients. It demonstrates expertise; since coaches can only take their clients as far as they have gone; their current skillset gives them the direction for the necessary growth they must attain to push their clients forward. As the information age continues, we live in a world where the opportunity for growth and expansion is unlimited as data on any topic is instantly available.

This is naturally leading us out of the business model of scarcity and competition and towards a system of collaboration, networking, and support. As an abundance mindset prevails, new coaches are finding that mentorship, within the coaching community, is a more readily available resource than it was for coaches who have been in the business for many years.

In North America, success is often viewed primarily through the lens of a career or financial achievement. So it’s easy to feel intimidated by someone who has obtained high status in their field. But there are many aspects to success and your confidence does not need to be linked solely to your competence in a particular area.

In fact, the competence-confidence loop is contextual and only enables you to display assuredness in your familiarity with a specific subject. That certainty does not maintain through other areas of your life unless you’ve done the work to dive deeper into your being.

A show of confidence may serve you well in the short term, but if it’s only superficial, people will easily see through it given time. Connecting with people on an honest level and understanding that everyone has strengths and shortcomings will serve you better in creating a rapport with potential clients. They may not align with you, nor you with them so you won’t know whether or not you can help unless you’re willing to find out.

Curiosity and the humility to know that you may not be the right coach for someone will ultimately boost your confidence in a tangible way because, by being open to possibilities, you allow yourself to be vulnerable. Vulnerability is very human, and that is what builds trust with others on a practical level far more than a facade of aplomb.

Coaching requires a different level of confidence than other adjacent businesses that provide feedback and support. This is because coaches must detach from the outcome and allow themselves to focus on taking their clients through a process. Coaches cannot harbor responsibility for their client’s results but must trust in the service they provide. This is why appearing to be confident is not enough, the surface-level facade will ultimately show ware.

True confidence is built at a deeper level. It comes from one’s practices as a human being. How one handles conflict, challenges, and relationships will show up in one’s emotions. Dealing with this is how a coach gains the self-assurance to provide a service to people who have accumulated external representations of success. The more congruence coaches have in their personal lives, the more they are willing to challenge their clients which in turn pushes them to continue their own growth.

Selling is transactional. A customer pays an agreed-upon dollar amount for a particular product or service. Coaching is a business that involves sales; however, it’s more involved than the exchange of a few dollars for a bag of chips because what is being traded are time, effort, and trust. No one wants to feel as though they are an object to be acquired; which is why as coaches, we should focus on building relationships rather than making a sale.

This can be difficult for many coaches to accept. While financial success is not the main reason for becoming a coach, we are still in business to make a living so it feels scary to give away our time with no promise of return. And clients can feel that -- they know when we are thinking about closing a deal over helping them grow. A shift in mindset towards relational interactions will build a coaching business more than the best corporate sales pitch.

Coaching is the kind of business that will reflect what is put into it. Even though it’s a new industry, and the standards of integrity are still being shaped, it’s important to demonstrate seriousness and legitimacy. Coaches who take steps towards furthering their training are more likely to find success within their business because, once their skills are built, they can coach anyone – even clients who need help in areas in which the coach struggles. The process of building a coaching business will filter out those whose intentions are not service-based. As a business model, it is a difficult option if someone’s intention for pursuing it is solely financial. And from an ethical standpoint, clients should be able to trust their coach is genuinely interested in helping them achieve their goals.Providing real-time insights, value, and support from real-world coaches.

Today’s guest, Siawash Zahmat, excels at helping coaches, who are struggling with their businesses, evaluate their priorities and move forward. What are your motivations for becoming a coach? Are you simply interested in entrepreneurship? Or do you have a genuine desire to serve other people? Coaching is a business that must be built from the ground up; it is very different from purchasing and continuing to operate an established company. It also requires training to indicate legitimacy and a high level of ethics and integrity. If you’re in it for a paycheck, you’ll likely be filtered out through the building process.

If your intention is service, then the struggles you are facing may be due to your approach to new clients. You don’t need to close the sale in your first session. Change your mindset about selling your service from transactional to relational. Focus on providing the same effort to a potential client as though they have already paid you; the money will follow. Commit to constantly getting better. The most successful coaches don’t do anything special; they simply get really good at the fundamentals and are willing to expand their perspectives.

The pandemic took a lot from us. But it also created unique opportunities to connect with others we may not have otherwise met. There is nothing quite like an in-person event; the energy is tangible, and as communal creatures, we crave that socialization. Sadly, in-person events are not always an option. Whether it’s due to illness or the expense of travel, the connection opportunities are restricted for those who are unable to attend.

In our modern times, communities are no longer comprised of the people in our physical surrounding areas; rather, individuals from across the world with common goals or interests can be members of the same community. Thus, a virtual space is now essential in providing meaningful experiences for everyone. Virtual spaces inherently lack the means of connection we are used to when face-to-face such as a handshake or high five; therefore, utilizing features such as the chat to facilitate engagement and acknowledgment is necessary for developing impact. It’s a chance for leaders to get creative; so have fun with it.

Communities within the coaching world have dual applications. Coaches can build them as a safe space for continued learning and growth for clients that extends beyond the limitations of what can be accomplished in an individual setting. Coaches are guides; their role is to foster the opportunity for others to find their own answers. Often, this deeper discovery can occur when people are able to create connections with others who are also on the journey of increased awareness.

The other function of community in this industry is to be a space for coach’s support. Humans are social animals, so it is natural to seek out a tribe. No one likes to feel as though they are the only one going through a particular experience; and coaching is a profession that can be solitary unless one seeks that connection with other coaches. Community provides grounding for coaches, enabling them to continue their learning as they harness that opportunity for their clients.

Michelle Huljev loved having a solid community. Living in a small, Bay Area town, close ties with family, friends, and neighbors have always brought joy into her life. After 17 years working in the financial industry, she felt pulled towards a career that would satisfy her love for people and longing for a deep connection within her work.

Enter the world of high-performance coaching. Michelle found that being a coach enabled her to create that community she was seeking; and in 2015 she became a lead director in the Certified High-Performance Coaching Community under Brendon Burchard where she builds a space for coaches to collaborate, support, inspire, and network with one another. Coaching is assumed to be a solitary field, but it is a vital part of a coach's career to not only be coached but also instruct others on how to interact with that communal element to enrich their lives. Being part of a community and helping others to find one for themselves is one of the greatest skills for a coach to master.

Excerpt From The Key to Staying Motivated and Making Progress in Your Coaching Business

Motivation comes and goes; it is often associated with emotions. It’s easy to talk ourselves out of doing something when we don’t feel like it. That’s why developing discipline can make the difference between progress and stagnation. Discipline begins with accountability. People will often seek outside support to maintain a certain level of personal responsibility; while this can be helpful, it’s important to preserve boundaries.

There is a distinctive difference between the type of accountability that comes from guilt and the kind that grows out of encouragement. Sharing your why and your vision with someone can bring you closer to that person, but it’s also a vulnerability. If the person you’ve been vulnerable with chooses to make you answerable to your goals through shame, this becomes a boundary issue that can hurt your relationship. However, if their accountability method helps you move past discouragement, that Is true support. Whether you choose to bring others into your journey; ultimately, accountability starts with you.

Excerpt from The key to staying motivated and Making Progress in Your Coaching BusinessWe live in a time in which the potential for success is unprecedented. Teenagers are able to make six figures per year without following the educational path we’ve all been told would make us prosperous. This indicates that we can create businesses beyond what we’ve imagined, but a key element is missing if that feels like an impossible feat. That element is structure. Without it, the ability to scale to the next level will be diminished. We cannot accurately determine the next step unless we know where we stand in our ventures.

One of the difficulties with virtual businesses, including coaching, is that they are often perceived as less tangible than a brick-and-mortar establishment. Thus, as coaches, we don’t take the same steps in building one as a more traditional proprietor might. Strategy and business plans are forgotten, and many coaches struggle to understand why their enterprise is not advancing.

Vision requires vulnerability, recognizing it for yourself, and sharing it with someone who may judge you for it. But that vulnerability creates an opportunity for you to connect and cultivate a supportive relationship with someone who understands what you are trying to do. It can create a system for accountability which is essential to building an intentional business. Without accountability, giving up is too easy.

It is important to maintain boundaries in an accountability-based relationship, otherwise supportive encouragement can devolve into shaming and discouragement. Shame is never a productive emotion. Unlike guilt, which is a sense of discomfort that something you did may have been wrong or in opposition to whom you believe yourself to be, shame is the negative perception of yourself as a being rather than your actions. In an accountability partnership, brainstorming, feedback, and analysis are far more effective methods of moving you forward in your career.

This progress also requires that you treat your business like a business. Online-based vocations are free of much of the overhead that pains brick-and-mortar business owners. Therefore, it is easy to neglect the steps that can make your venture successful. You can counteract this by leaning into accountability; use it to develop a framework for your company that aligns with your values and purpose.

Doing business for yourself but not by yourself. That is the power of connecting with a community of people who are on a similar path. In 2022, Katy St-Cyr took the leap and became fully committed to becoming a Christian life coach. She struggled with finding her niche, determining what types of clients she would want to support, and whether to create a framework for clients to follow. The Coaching Mastery Community (CMC) provided her with clarity in these areas, lighting the way for her journey as a coach.

One of the main benefits of joining a community is the opportunity to hear the real-life trials and errors of others working toward a similar goal. While step-by-step systems are helpful, they lack the human element. Their guidance is linear, and life rarely moves in a straight line.

Since joining CMC, Katy has worked through multiple fears; she worried about being insignificant compared to others in the group, not being well-received, being influenced In a negative way, and providing productive feedback. What she found was a space for growth, collaboration, and an opportunity to examine her own progress. Katy’s final thoughts on the value of CMC – “I should have joined it years ago,” she said.

From the outside looking in, Katy had a very successful life – a loving family, good health, a satisfying career, and a pleasing personality. Yet she struggled with chronic depression and a sense of disquiet that caused cracks in a seemingly solid foundation.

In 2018, Katy became a Christian and began discovering unresolved pain and a path forward to healing. Within two years, God showed her a way to use her empathy to help others find their own healing. Faith brought her purpose. It reminded her of what mattered and lit the way for Katy to reconnect with the encompassing theme of her life.

Have you ever felt called to make a change in your life? That’s what happened to Katy St-Cyr in 2020. After converting to Christianity in 2018, Katy went on a two-year journey of self-discovery and healing before God told her that it was time for a change. Her life was intended to impact others through the empathy and sensitivity she gained by experiencing childhood trauma, depression, and discontentment with a life that was, nonetheless, filled with many blessings.Katy’s new-found faith opened the door for her to embrace an opportunity that she had first encountered 15 years earlier – coaching. While it would take another two years before Katy fully committed to her new path, God cleared the way for her to step into her purpose. In 2022, Katy joined the Coaching Mastery Community (CMC) where she found solace in her mission to become a Christian-life coach. The community provided a space for collaboration and an opportunity to learn from the experiences of others on a similar journey. Networking with other coaches enabled Katy to conquer fears, solidify her business approach, and connect with the bigger theme for her life. How valuable has CMC been for Katy? “I should have joined it years ago,” she said.Providing real-time insights, value, and support from real-world coaches.
