On May 16, 1986, the unspeakable happened in the small, heavily Mormon town of Cokeville, Wyoming. David and Doris Young entered the town's elementary school heavily armed with several guns and a homemade bomb. What ensued shouldn't have happened—but it did. Despite the detonation of a deadly bomb, all of the hostages—children, teachers, staff, and even a UPS driver—survived. The only casualties were the Youngs. There were many miracles that day: The bomb had been inexplicably altered; fumes from the gasoline bomb caused the windows to be open, making escape possible; and though there were 79 people injured, some severely, all made full recoveries. But the biggest miracle was told by the children after the incident.
