Bartek Wilkosz has been a Josiah Venture missionary in Poland for the past three years. His first involvement with Josiah Venture was in 2014 when he took part in a camp called Growth Academy, organized by El Dorado—one of JV Poland’s national projects. The goal of El Dorado’s activities is to help young people discover Christ and his calling for their lives, as well as equip teenage leaders to serve in their local youth ministries. Bartek’s service with the project has continued to grow, and in 2019, he became a part-time Coordinator. In July 2021, he became a full-time JV missionary and now serves as the Director of El Dorado.
Bartek's dream is that Poland will one day be known all over the world as a nation of followers of Christ that sends hundreds of thousands of missionaries to other countries.

Tino Peste and his wife live and serve in Constanta, Romania. Tino met and married Cristiana while they were studying theology in their country’s capital and attending the same church. After finishing their education, both felt God’s calling to serve the young generation in Constanta. They have two girls, Amanda & Haria.

They believe that the best way to serve the church of today is actually to serve the church of tomorrow by ministering to the young generation. Together, they are implementing and leading Exit Tour in Romania while actively serving in their local church. Tino also leads the youth and student ministry there, and Cristiana works with children and teenage girls. As a couple, they believe that by communicating the great message of the Gospel in a relevant way, the church will be active in the lives of young people through discipleship.

Paul Williams serves as the Vice President of Finance & Operations for Josiah Venture. In this capacity, he works alongside the President and other executive team members to provide leadership, support, and strategic thinking in the operations of JV. Paul lives in the Czech Republic with his wife, Molli, and their daughter Mae. They have three additional young adult children (Tate, Claire, and Grant) who all live in Texas.

In this informative episode, Paul shares how God called him to move from the business world into serving as a missionary, the humbling journey of support raising, his philosophy of living generously, and more.

Shortly after the fall of communism in Central and Eastern Europe, Paul, his wife Molli, and their new baby moved to Prague, Czech Republic, for a two-year work assignment. The year was 1996, and during that time, they fell in love with the Czech Republic and its people. In 2009, while attending a home gathering, Paul and Molli were introduced to the ministry of Josiah Venture and were overjoyed to know that God was working in a place they had grown to love so much.
In the summer of 2019, Paul and Molli helped lead a team from their home church in Texas to serve at a Josiah Venture English Camp in Poland. Through that time, God began to capture their hearts with the vision of Josiah Venture. Soon after that, they believed God was leading them to join JV in the Frydlant office.

Zuzi Džubakovska decided to follow Jesus when she was 10 years old at a camp organized by Child Evangelism Fellowship. Since then, her life has been one big adventure. During her management studies, she started working in business and continued in marketing and customer success for a few years. Meanwhile, she served in her home church—Bratislava City Church—where she became a member of the worship band and helped out with the Josiah Venture young adult ministry called EXIT. In 2019, she answered her calling to join full-time ministry. The Lord directed her to TCKompas (Josiah Venture Slovakia’s partner organization) and their EXIT Tour ministry, which brings evangelism to high schools through a prevention program.

She currently works with the Point Online team on their website and helps with internal human resources for the JV team in Slovakia. Zuzi lives in Bratislava, Slovakia, with her husband, Feri—who also came to Christ through TCKompas. They continue to serve together in her home church and serve other people with their open home. They never turn down an invitation for good coffee! They love to laugh and enjoy spending time with people and praying for them.

For the month of January, we invite you to listen to the main talks from our annual 2023 fall conference. The theme was "Lifeline: First Responders and the Anxious Generation." We brought in Dr. David Van Dyke, a marriage and family therapist, and professor at Wheaton College, to speak and train us all in what it looks like to be like Jesus for people in need.

Our goal was to equip youth leaders across the region with practical tools to respond to the ever-increasing mental health issues among the youth in their ministries. Thank you for listening, and please continue to pray that we will be first responders for the anxious generation who are fully present, ask good questions, listen well, and point them to the love of Christ.

Kilian Špiess grew up in Germany, and during his childhood, he attended an Evangelical Lutheran Church where he heard about God and faith. At the age of 12, he discovered the heart of the gospel and God's love at a camp, and since then, he has desired to follow Jesus. After years of serving at camps and being discipled, Kilian explored his heart for missions during internships in Manchester and Chemnitz, Germany at the age of 19, leaving him with the desire to reach people for the sake of the gospel.
In 2020, he started studying Theology, Mission, and Ministry at ForMission College. Studying the depths of God and his word, Kilian focused on missional leadership in his dissertation, proposing new ways to combine leadership styles in ministry. After finishing his Bachelor's degree in 2023, Kilian took on the role of an academic administrator on the Higher Education team for Josiah Venture. In this role, he supports students and staff of ForMission College in order to enhance their college experience. His goal is to develop existing processes and pave the way for new experiences, equipping Christian leaders in Central and Eastern Europe for effective missional ministry.

This episode features one of the seven talks from our annual Spring Conference that happened back in May.

The theme of this year's conference was "Missional Be-Attitudes." After three years of Covid and an ongoing war in Ukraine, you may feel a bit like a passenger on a plane that has flown through some turbulent air or a sailor on a ship that has sailed through a challenging storm. After all the shaking and rocking, you may need to pause and make sure all the ropes are tied down and that your key instruments still work. During the week of the conference, we had space to focus back on the core of who we are, and we invite you to join us in this process.

We asked questions like;

  • Who do we need to be to stay on mission in turbulent times?
  • What key attitudes will keep us on track no matter how difficult the storm?

The theme verse for this conference was 1 Corinthians 15:58, “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” Enjoy listening, and I pray this teaching encourages you. Thank you for being on mission with us!

Jonathan Rosen began serving full-time with Josiah Venture in October 2012 after many summer internships in the Czech Republic. He and his wife, Veronika, and their daughter, Hailey, live and serve in the city of Ostrava, where they help lead their local church's high school and young adults' ministries. They also focus on encouraging and equipping youth ministry leaders throughout the city of Ostrava.

Currently, Jonathan is waiting in the hospital for a heart transplant. He shares about his health journey, how he and his family are doing, and how you can pray for them as they are in a difficult time of waiting and trusting in the Lord.

*This episode was recorded on Sept. 6th. Since Friday, Sept. 8th, he has been in the city of Brno waiting for the transplant to take place.

Prayers for Jonathan:

  • Pray that he stays in remission!
  • Pray that God heals his heart miraculously or provides a heart for the transplant soon.
  • Pray for his family, as they are two hours away. Pray for strength and peace for his wife Veronika as she parents their 15-month-old daughter Hailey.
  • Pray that the faith of the believers around them would be encouraged.
  • Pray that God would use this health journey to bring the non-believers around them to faith in Jesus.

This episode is about Fusiondary, an international music festival that gathered 700 young people from 13 different countries to a weekend festival at the end of April, with music, art, and powerful messages about a personal relationship with Jesus. Those participating were young people who are involved in 25 Fusion choirs.

While at Fusiondary, I walked around with a microphone and recorded what some attendees had to say about Fusion. I asked them, "What is your favorite part about Fusion?" and, "What was your life like before Fusion?" I talked to people from seven different countries, and all of them said that the thing they love the most about Fusion is the people. It's true; Fusion is like one big family. Please enjoy this fun, Fusion-filled episode of the podcast and take to heart what these young people have to say and join us in prayer for the Fusion choirs across Central and Eastern Europe, especially as we step into summer and the gospel will be shared at each camp.

Amy Ellenwood, and her husband, Mel, have been serving with Josiah Venture in the Czech Republic for 25 years. She shares how she never thought she would be an overseas missionary and about the ups and downs of ministry. She loves being with, serving, and investing in people. One of her passions is caring for and shepherding the women on the Josiah Venture team. She speaks about how it is vital that women are poured into and entrusted with significant work.

During the 12 years they spent working in stateside youth ministry, their hearts were continually challenged by the need they saw worldwide to reach and train the next generation. During a brief trip to visit the ministry of Josiah Venture, their hearts were captured by the innocent honesty they saw in students they met. They were deeply inspired by JV's vision to work through the local church and disciple young leaders who would transform their countries. After serving locally in the Czech Republic to develop a model youth ministry, they helped to grow JV's English camp ministry.

Today, Mel is the Executive Vice President of Josiah Venture, and Amy is the Director of Women's Ministry. She also disciples young female leaders, teaches and speaks, and works with the Third Culture Kid ministry. They live in Frydek-Mistek, near Josiah Venture headquarters, where they are also involved in building up their local church.

Ema Kreko has served in the local church in Zagreb, Croatia as a youth leader for over a decade. She first heard of Josiah Venture at an English camp in 2006. She was captured by the vision for young people. She didn’t know how God was going to work things out, but somehow God used her experience as a high school teacher and her passion for investing in a new generation of young believers and brought it all together.

She desperately desires to see many lost young people come to Christ, find their hope in forgiveness and new life in Jesus, restore the church in Zagreb, build God’s Kingdom in Croatia, and glorify God with all that he has given her. It is her vision to see young believers being discipled, actively involved in spreading the gospel, and building his Kingdom.

Ema joined the Josiah Venture team in the summer of 2018 and is currently developing a small team of leaders to be the next generation serving the church in Croatia. In addition to this, Ema is currently leading a school for Korean language and culture and teaching a class in systematic theology.

Olena Volovyk was born in Ternopil, Ukraine, and has lived there her whole life. She shares about growing up in Ukraine, how she came to know Jesus as her savior, five years of working with Josiah Venture and her passion for summer camps ministry, what life was like during the first few months of the war, and how because of the war she met her now fiance and is soon getting married.

When she was eight years old, she started attending a church kids’ club and Sunday school through the invitation of a Christian elementary school teacher. There, she met Olena and Eduard Kurat—Ukrainian national missionaries in Ternopil who serve with Josiah Venture and have played an important role in her spiritual life.

Olena became acquainted with Josiah Venture through an English camp in 2009. The following year, she went to English camp again and accepted Christ there. She was invited to a youth group, which eventually became Philadelphia Church. There, she started to grow as a Christian and learned how to serve others. She remembers the huge impact and change it brought to her life. Her life turned into an exciting trip with God, which also led to being a Josiah Venture summer intern in Ukraine in 2015 and 2016. This was the time when God revealed His calling on her life, and the Camps ministry became one of her passions. Olena enjoys equipping churches throughout Ukraine to use camps as an instrument to make disciples of Jesus Christ.

During the first few months of the war, she was involved in the organization of buses and the evacuation of refugees abroad. Her local church continues to be a hub for serving refugees and internally displaced people.

Olena & Evan are getting married Saturday, February 25, 2023.

❤️Happy Valentine's Day!🥰

Johnny and Brooke Stevens live and serve in the country of Slovenia, and they have an amazing story all about how the Lord brought them together. They share how they met, dated, got engaged, have been married for 15 years, and are now part of the JV marriage coaching team. Wow!

In the fall of 2004, shortly after Johnny first joined Josiah Venture in Slovenia, he met Brooke, who was at that time a volunteer with the Church of the Nazarene in Slovenia. Even though Johnny and Brooke were both active in relational ministry in the capital city of Ljubljana, their paths rarely crossed until the spring of 2007, when they began dating. As their relationship progressed, they quickly found that the Lord was leading them to serve him together with Josiah Venture in Slovenia.

They were married in January of 2008 and began a partnership with a local church in Celje in the spring of 2008. In March 2010, they welcomed their daughter Kinsley into the family. They are thankful for the opportunity to mobilize the church body to minister to the needs of the next generation in Celje.

For the month of January, we have been changing things up a bit with the podcast. Instead of our regular interview-style episodes, we have been sharing the teaching from the main talks from our last Fall Conference. This is the last of this teaching series. We are kicking off the year with a big reminder that, as believers, we are Messengers of Hope.

This past fall, around 400 youth ministry specialists from 18 Central and Eastern European countries came together after a two-year break for our “Movement Conference,” designed to fuel God’s work among young people across the region. The theme was "Messenger of Hope." In the evenings, we heard some fantastic teaching by three Josiah Venture missionaries. This episode features Dave Patty, President of Josiah Venture, with his Fall Conference talk, "Equipping Messengers."

We hope you enjoy this encouraging talk and that you are inspired to be a messenger of hope.

Casey Yorman lives in the Czech Republic with his family. He is the Director of Edge Sports International and helps lead the entire International Team. In this episode, he shares about his journey to the field, his love for sports, and how God healed him from long Covid.

He and his wife Kristin first heard about Josiah Venture in 2002 when a group of high school students from their church in California went to the Czech Republic to teach at a JV English camp. The following year, they were invited to become JV summer interns in Romania. This experience really awoke in them the desire to share the gospel with youth in Central and Eastern Europe.

In 2011, the Yorman family (this time including their sons, Caleb and Benaiah) moved to Czech so that Casey could fill the role of Speciality Team (S-team) Director as well as Director of both Camps and Edge Sports. In 2015, Casey decided to step down from his roles leading Camps and the S-team to focus solely on JV Edge Sports International. Casey serves all of our JV countries in training coaches in discipleship and quality coaching, helping cast vision for JV countries that are struggling to get Edge Sports started, writing training material, recruiting more coaches to help, networking, fundraising, and casting vision for what is ahead.

Kuba Vejmelka lives and serves in his hometown of Brno, Czech Republic. He grew up in a Christian home, but in high school, he went through a season of deconstructing his faith. "I came to a point where I needed to figure out if my faith was my own or my parent's." He began spending time with Monika, his now wife, and realized that she had something different. "I saw something in her that I didn't have, some kind of different light and beauty, and I realized that it was the presence of Jesus."

In the spring of 2018, God called Kuba to join Josiah Venture’s Czech national organization—KAM. Kuba leads a team of people whose primary focus is to prepare training events and materials for both Josiah Venture workers and youth leaders in the Czech Republic to equip leaders to serve Jesus and reach this young generation with the gospel.

He and Monika currently live in Brno and serve their local community. In April 2020, their first child Rozalia Nora was born.

Christy Owen has served in Lviv, Ukraine, for the last eight years. She has been a part of the Fusion ministry there and has been highly involved in discipling young women. Christy shares about her journey to Ukraine, but mostly we have a conversation about being single on the mission field. She talks about some of the common joys and struggles of serving as a single.

We recorded this episode back at the beginning of February before the invasion of Ukraine that happened on February 24th. Christy references how the tension between Russia and Ukraine has been going on for years, but when we recorded this, we had no idea what was about to happen. Stojce Nikolov is the Josiah Venture country leader for Serbia and he is doing creative and innovative things with his ministry through social media.

Shortly after coming to faith, Stojce began asking God to provide a way for him to deepen his understanding and relationship with his newfound Savior. Within a few months Stojce, who was living in Macedonia, received the opportunity to move to Serbia to pursue a degree in theology. During this time he began to discover his passion for working with youth and became very involved with the local church in Bačka Topola.

Stojce was introduced to Josiah Venture when his church decided to host a camp for its youth. One year later, Stojce and his wife, Sara, were married. Together, they continued to volunteer and serve with JV until 2013, when they were officially asked to join the organization. Today, Stojce pastors a newly planted church in Pačir. Stojce, Sara and their son, Noel, live in Bačka Topola, where they also continue to serve.

Check out Stojce's daily Facebook video on his churches facebook page - Crkva Logos - Pacir.

Marta Logins is a missionary, pastor's wife, and mom in her home country of Latvia. She and her husband, Raimonds, have been serving there, along with their three daughters, for seven years. Back in November some of the Josiah Venture women gathered over zoom and heard an encouraging message from Marta and we quickly realized that her story needed to be shared with a wider audience.

Marta shares about how she fell in love with God's Word and is spending more intentional time abiding in him. Please be encouraged and inspired by her message. Something unique about this episode is that in order for Marta to fully express herself, she shares in her heart language of Latvian and her friend and fellow JV missionary, Lelde Keice, translated for her. This might be the first time you have heard Latvian spoken. It is a beautiful language! Enjoy!

Shelby Flowers is the Director of Fusion International and has a passion for young people to use their gifts and talents for the Kingdom. She first traveled to Czech in 2010 to serve at a Fusion camp with a short-term team. Very quickly she realized that her relationship with Czech would never be “short-term”. The way music works as a tool to build relationships and connect people to Christ is Shelby’s passion, and in that sense, Fusion is basically a dream come true.

She served as a Fusion intern in the Czech Republic in the summers of 2011 and 2012 and moved to Czech in 2014. Shelby is using her passion for music to reach young people in Central and Eastern Europe with the love of Christ. She lives in Ostrava, Czech Republic and travels internationally to help train and establish Fusion in other JV countries.
