Overdue Rentals is run by Matthew Schuchman and Mike Reyes. We're two entertainment journalists who are looking to talk about the many films that somehow have been forgotten about as time goes by. We want to introduce you to films you may have meant to see, but still are on your list of films you're overdue on seeing.
It Ends With Us is taking the box office by storm. We were lucky enough to have the film's producer, Alex Saks join us to talk about the process of getting such a film off the ground. We also took time to talk about one of her first gigs as a producer on the criminally underseen, Thoroughbreds.
It's once again an tremendous honor to be joined by someone as special as the one and only, Jean Reno. Jean's new film, My Penguin Friend, is out this Friday, August 9th. While it was a pleasure to discuss this adaptation of the hit true story that took social media by storm, this also gave us the chance to talk to Jean about a classic Overdue Rental; 1998's, Ronin.
We're finally wrapping up our interviews for the long awaited Longlegs with writer/director, Osgood Perkins. Oz is here to not only talk about his smash hit, Longlegs, but also his first production (which was his second released film), The Blackcoat's Daughter. Strap in for darkness and grief with some light moments in between!
Legendary film maker Lee Tamahori's new film The Convert is already out and in theaters and OnDemand for all to enjoy. We couldn't pass up the chance to talk to Lee about the film and his groundbreaking feature, Once Were Warriors. This might be a more overall serious episode of Overdue Rentals, but it is a highly important and thoughtful one.
Longlegs week continues! This time we have the absolute lovely Alicia Witt with us to discuss her time and process on the smash indie hit, Longlegs. But, we're also discussing her role as Cherish in John Waters oft missed, Cecil B. Demented.
I'm still amazed that we have come to the point that maybe one of the greatest films of all time, is an Overdue Rental. This Friday, July 12th sees the release of Guy Pearce's new film, The Convert in theaters and On Demand. And while Guy was with us to talk about his new film with famed director Lee Tamahori, we had the opportunity to discuss both the legend that is L.A. Confidential, and the missing sequel we almost got.
You all better have your viewing schedule packed to the brim this week as there are two films you have to make sure you see. The highly anticipated Longlegs is hitting theaters on July 12th. In the first of three interviews we have coming for you from the film, we have the one and only Blair Underwood joining us. Blair talks to us all about joining such a one of a kind film and his role in the 1995 thriller, Just Cause, which stars Blair along side Sean Connery, Laurence Fishburne, Ed Harris, and a 10 year old Scarlett Johansson.
The day has come! The 40th anniversary of The NeverEnding Story is upon us, but more importantly; Tami Stronach who played The Childlike Empress in the film is back on screen for the first time in 40 years in her new film, Man & Witch: The Dance of a Thousand Steps. It's part two of our coverage of The Exorcism and this week we are graced with the great Adam Goldberg. Along with his work in The Exorcism, Adam talks about the greatly missed, The Hebrew Hammer.
There are few actors out there with such a wide range and ability that allows audiences to see them in so many different lights. The good guy, the bad guy, the wing man, the loner, the neurotic, the strong willed...the list would go on forever if I listed all the options. One person with this quality is the great David Hyde Pierce. David appears in the new horror/drama The Exorcism along side Russell Crowe. And what better way to celebrate an exorcism film by following up the conversation with a dive into the "Pillow Talk" revival, Down With Love.
The 2024 Tribeca Film Festival may be wrapping up, but we still have some special discussions to share with everyone. The wonderful Lisa Edelstein joined us to discuss her Tribeca comedy, The Everything Pot. She also is discussing the classic 1978 version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
It was a true honor to speak with the one and only Stephen Fry about his new film, Treasure, as well as the 1992 all-star breakthrough that is Peter's Friends. Stephen is someone who we can safely say everyone on earth is familiar with in one way or another, but he has always held a special place in our hearts; so it was such a thrill to talk about these films and more with him.
As many of you know, both Mike and Matthew work for other outlets apart from Overdue Rentals. Today we are joined by Mike's boss, Managing editor of CinemaBlend, Sean O'Connell. Sean's new book about the career of Bruce Willis is hitting bookshelves on June 11th. We're just days away from the new season of The Great American Baking Show on Roku. We were honored to be joined by Bake Off/Baking Show judge Prue Leith to discuss the beloved show and both her personal connection and general love for Chocolat.

We're on a roll crossing off guests we wanted to have on since we started Overdue Rentals. Today we are talking to the one and only Scoot McNairy about his new slow burn thriller, Blood for Dust. We're also talking about the 2010 breakthrough feature from Gareth Edwards, Monsters. Blood for Dust is available in theaters on on digital this Friday, April 19th.
This has been a long time coming for us here at Overdue Rentals. One of our top guests we wanted to speak to has always been Dylan Baker. And one of the top choices we wanted to talk to him about was the 1991 John Candy starring, Delirious. Well, the day has finally come. Dylan joins us to talk about his new film, LaRoy, Texas; which is out in theaters and OnDemand this Friday, April 12th. But as mentioned already, we then get to talk to him about working with John Candy, Raymond Burr, Emma Samms, Mariel Hemmingway (just to name a few) and why he has black bars on 2 AND 7.
Though almost everyone in the world knows the man, many people still haven't seen David Dastmalchian in his purest form. Through his collaborations with such pioneers as Christopher Nolan, Denis Villeneuve, and James Gunn (to name a few), his face has been plastered into the minds of movie goers everywhere. But there are many sides of Dastmalchian that many still haven't witnessed. So, whether it be in his new film Late Night with the Devil, or through his semi-autobiographical 2014 film Animals; it's time people get cozied up to David Dastmalchian.
If you're like us, you probably have seen a clip run across your social media feeds showing the time a TV show surprised and elderly man finding out the rest of the studio audience around him were the now grown children he helped save during the onset of WWII. That man was Nicholas Winton and the new film One Life is about the struggle Winton went through to save close to 1,000 children from being sent to concentration camps. Actor/musician Johnny Flynn plays Winton in his younger years while he is trying to work out how to immigrate these children into England before it is too late. Johnny joined us to talk about taking on the role, as well as his turn as David Bowie in the 2020 release, Stardust.
It's always a treat to have a great conversation with a guest. But our chat with the great Thomas Haden Church takes things to a whole new level. Joining us to discuss his new film, Accidental Texan we had to also speak with Thomas about his work on the overlooked, Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight. Though most people will associate Alex Winter with his performance as Bill S. Preston, Esq. in the Bill & Ted series, he has done so much great work both in front and behind the camera over the years. Alex is one of the greatest people to chat with and he has so many wonderful things to say, including some uplifting news on a possible official return of Freaked.

There are so many personal films out there from many seasoned filmmakers. Danish writer/director Niels Arden Oplev has made a film that is very close to his heart, and invited audiences in to learn and explore some hard to understand subjects. Rose is both touching and heavy, but always light and airy. Definitely check it out the first second you can. But, while we had Niels with us, we also had to talk about his original adaptation of Stieg Larsson's, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. We discuss what goes into adapting such a lauded work of art and the issues with its not so publicized name change.
Happy November! Let's kick off the month right with the one and only Neil Burger. His new film, The Marsh King's Daughter is out this Friday, November 3rd. But we are also talking about this week's Overdue Rental, his 2011 sleeper hit, Limitless. The Bradley Cooper/Robert DeNiro thriller was such a smash hit when it hit theaters and though it spawned a TV show of the same name, not enough people are talking about the film nowadays. Let's fix that!

What a perfect storm of consequences. The legendary film maker Steve James is back with a new documentary, A Compassionate Spy. And the timing couldn't be more perfect as its subject was part of that little thing called The Manhattan Project. You know, you might have been inundated with the subject with it being the main focus of a little movie called Barbie...I mean Oppenheimer! In the long span of film history there have always been releases that were deemed controversial upon their release. Catherine Hardwicke's directorial debut, Thirteen, was definitely one of those films that was met with a lot of backlash thinking it was glamourizing aspects of teenage life that it certainly wasn't. You couldn't turn a corner at the time of its release without hearing the buzz around the movie, whether is was for or against it. We had the opportunity to revisit the film with Catherine whilst also talking about her new comedy, Mafia Mamma, which stars Toni Collette and Monica Bellucci. Mafia Mamma is out in theaters now starting Friday, April 14th.

As you know, here on Overdue Rentals we want to shed light back on films that were once talked about ad nauseum, but now don't seem to get the same attention they once had. Starship Troopers by our own admission is a film that still gets a lot of attention, but as it has no started being re-evaluated over the last few years, we thought there was no better time to discuss the film with its star, Casper Van Dien. It's been far too long since we had a feature length film from Jason Eisner. He first hit the scene winning a contest to have a fan shot, fake trailer be part of the Quentin Tarantino/Robert Rodriguez Grindhouse experience. That fake trailer was Hobo With a Shotgun, which he later turned into a full length feature starring Rutger Hauer in 2011. Now he is back with Kids Vs. Aliens, a full length feature based on the short Slumber Party Alien Abduction, which was his contribution to the V/H/S 2 anthology. When Mike and I started work on the Overdue Rentals podcast, we had a list of 10 films we wanted to kick off our show with. Lenny Abrahamson's 2014 film, Frank, was one of those 10. Now, here we are with the man himself discussing this highly underseen classic. After the success of his adaptation of Normal People for Hulu, Lenny is back with an adaptation of Sally Rooney's first book, Conversations with Friends which premieres on Hulu starting this Friday, May 15th. As much as it was a thrill to talk about the show with Lenny, we were beyond thrilled to have some time to chat up the man about Frank and revel in all its glory.

This week on Overdue Rentals, we decided to leverage the more serious nature of our guests tense new film, by talking about the much more fun natured adaptation he starred in; for a little bit of levity. As of course, we are joined by Sharlto Copley who is starring as the Unabomber Ted Kaczynski in the new film Ted K that releases February 18th, 2022. We also delve into his turn as Howling Mad Murdock in Joe Carnahan's big screen version of, The A-Team. Of course, District 9 and some other fun subjects crop up. What better way to celebrate Valentine's Day than listening to a conversation about some unhinged individual, right!?
Tony Todd, the legend himself is with us to talk about his newest film, Stoker Hills, as well as the Tom Savini helmed remake of Night of the Living Dead. We also talk some football, cats, and vide games. It should be noted that this discussion took place right after the divisional round of playoffs, hence why we are talking about football games from a few weeks ago. There is also some very quick audio issues in the middle of Tony's discussion, but it clears up quickly.
