Today we are talking about something that is critical to the confidence-building journey and that is the benefit of the doubt. Let’s be real, giving someone the benefit of the doubt is a hard skill to master, it forces us to push our emotions to the side and look at it objectively.
During our conversation, we discuss the importance of doing personal work to avoid burdening others with unresolved issues, using self-talk techniques to mentally prepare ourselves, and how to give others the benefit of the doubt. It's time to leave our emotional baggage at the door and enter social situations with a fresh perspective.

We are here this week talking about how to reclaim your confidence after you have slipped into jealousy. While this may not be a dramatic issue, it happens frequently and is worth discussing. We emphasize the importance of allowing jealousy to arise and serve its purpose, while committing to personal growth in relation to jealousy. It’s a process of continually facing discomfort, building skills to navigate difficult emotions, prioritizing showing up, and collaborating instead of retreating. We want you to remember that jealousy is about oneself, not about others. So show up, invest in relationships, and work towards your own personal growth in order to capture your confidence. We read an article recently that made us throw up in our mouths a bit when we read the headline. It was called, “How Confidence is Weaponized Against Women.” And it’s so true because as women, we’re damned if we do, damned if we don’t. We are told how important it is to build our confidence, yet once we do, we are then criticized. We want to walk you through this article and talk about how we’ve experienced the double-edged sword of building confidence as a woman in 2023. In this episode, we cover: * Why we shouldn’t fake it until we make it [2:10] * All the different things we are told to allude confidence, and how that can get into our heads [3:12] * Likeable people get stuff done [6:55] * Why confidence is weaponized against women [7:59] * How leaders can help try to foster confidence in women [11:17] * The power of quiet confidence [15:57]

For those that don’t know, Stephanie has lived her whole life having curly hair. In fact, she has spent over 10 years straightening her hair week after week simply because that’s what she’s always seen other people with curly hair do. Stephanie never actually realized just how much confidence stuff was wrapped up in your hair until she had a very special moment with her daughter, who also has curly hair. Women are doing it all, whether it’s running a business, being a CEO, raising a family or showing up in all the different hats we wear across time and space. Diet culture is that collection of social expectations that dictates our self-worth with the way our body looks. In doing so it tells us what to do, what to eat, and how to look in order to feel worthy, accepted, and validated. This episode really lays the framework for the podcast where we share a little bit about our own confidence journeys and our desire to empower as many women as we can to truly capture their confidence.
In this episode, Stephanie and Whitney dive into the vision for the podcast: to empower women who desire to step into their value and aren’t not afraid to go after the life they want. They discuss how when you're in a new environment and industry where others look confident it can make you feel inferior until you learn how to flex your own competence muscle. Whitney shares how as she navigated her entrepreneurial journey a consistent thread showed up with her clients ability to achieve success, a lack of confidence in themselves. Stephanie tells of a time in her life where she wished she had done more confidence work because it would have served her well.

We're kicking off a 4 episode series dedicated to the way we sabotage ourselves, and really try to understand what these trigger points are and how we can work around them. At the end of the day, we are humans, and while we can’t control everything, we can take steps to engineer our successes and feel more confident in our own lives. Stephanie and Whitney discuss the steps you can take to mitigate self sabotaging behaviors. They outline ways you can identify your own saboteurs and share a quiz you can take to find out how to identify self sabotaging behaviors. In this episode, we cover saboteur #1: the “Judge '' - that inner critic that thinks it’s pushing you to do better when in reality it’s only making you miserable. In this episode, we cover: * The first step to mitigating self sabotaging behaviors is to identify what those behaviors are through positive intelligence [1:33] * Self criticism and judgement doesn’t make you a better person [3:10] * The most pervasive Judge is conditional judgment [4:40] * The role of the Judge is to ensure your emotional safety [6:27]

Procrastination - it’s a scary word, mostly because we’ve all succumbed to it at one point or another. In general, procrastination is a bit of an emotional rollercoaster that brings up feelings of dread, guilt, and maybe even shame, but why do we feel that way? In this episode, Stephanie and Whitney discuss procrastination and where we find it shows up in our lives the most. When we lean into procrastination, we are opening the for that fear and anxiety to creep in. While that might seem scary, we want to help you understand how to stay in alignment with your integrity and not get overwhelmed with procrastination! In this episode, we cover: * How does procrastination show up for us? [1:14] * We discuss where procrastination comes from and what role mood plays in it [4:01] * Instead of avoiding that feeling of procrastination, lean into it and explore why you’re feeling the way you’re feeling in this moment [7:19] * Practical ways you can solve procrastination, including a new way to organize your to-do list [11:15]

It might be tempting to stick your head in the sand at this very moment when the going gets tough, but in reality, running away from your problems and fear are only going to breed more problems and more fear! In this episode, Stephanie and Whitney dig a little deeper and explore what ignorance is and how it is a breeding ground for fear. Ignorance is not a fixed place and it can easily be changed. You have more control over what you learn and what knowledge you gain than you can imagine. They explain what you need to do to get back on track and navigate that place of avoidance so that it no longer controls you. In this episode, we cover: * What is ignorance? [0:59] * The most common things we avoid and fear: hard conversations, asking for help, talking about yourself, taking charge of your health and finance [3:46] * How to spot the red flags of avoidance [6:19] * Why do you find yourself avoiding things, and what can you do to offset that default pattern of behavior? You’re in control of what you do with it (1:02) * Myth #1, does feedback and negative always have to have a negative connotation? One way to address feedback is to view it like a performance review and a way to grow (4:35) * Tip #1, find a way to separate you from the process/feedback so it doesn’t feel like a personal attack. Most people aren’t trained how to give good feedback! (6:34) * Tip #2, instead of responding immediately to feedback, take a step back and take a deep breath. Don’t step in, interrupt or get defensive (9:01) * Tip #3, body language is everything! Focus on relaxing your face and eyes and holding yourself in an open position (10:35) * Whitney and Stephanie share a helpful formula for the best method to deliver feedback (11:32) * Tip #4, be mindful! This is absolutely false, yet there is a lot of misuse and misinformation about the idea of cockiness and narcissism (4:51) * Myth #2, being confident can turn you into a narcissist.
