One of, if not the, largest patterns in the Bible can be seen when God calls someone to do a particular task. When there is a need, God calls someone to fulfill a task associated with that need, and those who are called are equipped to accomplish the task.
Audrey Wallace, Director of 5 Loaves food pantry, shares with us her experiences of leading 5 Loaves through the 2020 pandemic.
Faith, Hope, and Love all work together helping us become the mature image of Jesus in this world.
Jesus came to lead the world through a new exodus, but we can miss it. We can be like the two disciples on the road to Emmaus who are walking with Jesus and have no clue that He is right by our side helping us navigate the chaos and giving birth to a new creation in us.
When God freed Israel from Egyptian bondage, He invited them to embody Him as a people, to be a kingdom of priests, to demonstrate to the world who God is and what He cares about. This liberation was to lead to their transformation, but unfortunately they become like Egypt then eventually back into bondage only to return to Judea occupied. This journey takes them from Egypt to Bethlehem.
So, when God leads them out of Egypt, he is leading them to change, to transform. These are people who have only known bondage, slavery, oppression and now they are free. They may not be in Egypt, but Egypt might still be within them, and now God is doing a new thing with them something that can lead to a real transformation.
The exodus from Egypt was only the beginning of the journey. Remembering this event is so crucial that it becomes a part of their identity, it influences their laws, and their celebrations. This is the beginning of their journey to becoming a nation of priests to the world.
Take a look at Moses before all the events transpired that ultimately lead him to being this massive historical figure and see what he reflects.
The book of Genesis is a narrative that reflects the various things we experience on our own journeys. They reflect our own struggles, weaknesses, and failures. They reflect what we must sometimes go through in order to experience our own exodus.
There is a tendency to paint Esau as the bad guy, but maybe we have been too quick to judge. Esau actually reflects someone who has been deeply betrayed and hurt and yet he was willing to forgive. Esau ends up not being such a bad guy after all.
Genesis 33:1-11
The narrative of Lot feeling Sodom reflects the struggles we go through when we need to make changes, the struggles we face when making changes, and how God meets us where we are in those struggles.
Genesis 19:15-26
This series is an attempt to show how there may be more to the story than we think. It's meant to challenge the thinking that we might have it all figured out. Its meant to challenge you to not just be content with the typical way you might have heard the story and to ask is there more to it. It's meant to challenge you to look a little deeper or a little broader and notice what you might see and how these narratives are actually reflections of us.

The story of Lamech and Noah, can be a story that reflects the worst in humanity, what we are capable of, how far we are capable of going, how dark and how chaotic society is capable of becoming. It is also a story that reflects the reality of God’s pursuit and the results of that pursuit. It reflects the reality that no matter how dark it may seem, there is still hope, because darkness cannot overcome light.
The narrative concerning Cain reflect us as individuals and as a society and what can happen when our ego gets the best of us.

What we see in scripture is a reflection of ourselves throughout time. The first few chapter in Genesis reflects how the temptations we fall to are often times counterfeits for the real thing.

The Disciples are struggling with many things. In this video we go along with Jesus to discover some of what was at the heart of the issue.
In what seems like an obscure four verses in Matthews gospel account, Jesus pays the temple tax even though he is not obligated to do so. Why? What might be revealed in these four verses about the Jewish social context?
