There are explanations for everything in life. Sometimes the Lord chooses to explain why we're in a particular season and sometimes He doesn't. Many times, we believe that if we only had an explanation for some of the things we go through, then everything would be ok. But that's not necessarily true. Sometimes we have to much faith in the "power" of an explanation.

In this message, Pastor Mark covers the letters of intimidation sent to Hezekiah by the King of Assyria. Isaiah counters the word of the enemy with the word of the Lord. The Lord will protect Jerusalem.
Our spiritual enemy often uses words of discouragement and intimidation to keep God's people in fear and paralysis. While the enemy's lies are powerful, the word of the Lord is all powerful and His word will accomplish the very thing it's supposed to accomplish.

Over time, both nations forfeited their uniqueness by worshipping other gods, breaking their covenant with Yahweh, and following the example of the surrounding nations. However, things change in chapter 9 when the prophet says that time of darkness and despair will not go on forever. “The land of Zebulun and Naphtali in Galilee will be filled with glory. The people who walk in darkness there will see a great light.”
In his gospel, Matthew records Jesus’ ministry in Galilee. Jesus begins his ministry, calls his disciples, and performs miracles in Galilee. Jesus enters the darkness and fills the land with God’s glory.

King Ahaz was a wicked king that reigned during the time of Isaiah. When Judah is threatened by Israel and Aram, God tells Ahaz not to worry. Instead of trusting God, Ahaz calls upon the King of Assyrian for help. Later, when Judah is threatened by Philistia & Edom, Ahaz relies again on the Assyrian King for help but this time the Assyrian King invades Judah instead of helping.

The OT prophets often spoke about a time period known as the Messianic Age. This age would be marked by the Messiah ruling and the blessing of the Lord filling the earth. In Isaiah 2, the prophet has a vision of this age and calls for Judah to "walk in the light of the Lord". Judah doesn't listen. Instead of living in light of the promised Messianic Age, they rejected the Lord and build a "Kingdom of Man".

After the Israelites decided to worship, offer sacrifices and hold a festival before the golden calf, God told Moses that an angel will go before the Israelites to take them into the Promised Land but He personally will not go with them (Ex 33:3). In the same chapter Moses said to God, "If you do not personally go with us, don't make us leave this place." For Moses, the most important thing was not the Promised Land but the presence of God dwelling among them. Sexuality is important to Christians because it's important to God. Our sexuality is woven into our identity. When sin entered the world, the good things God gave humanity eventually become distorted. As God chose Israel as his special possession, he gave them a sexual ethic to live by. This sexual ethic carries on into the New Testament. In this series finale, Pastor Mark looks at the last 5 verses of Asa's life. After Asa is confronted by the prophet Hanani, he rejects the word of the Lord, throws Asa in prison and begins oppressing some of the people in Judah. Not accepting divine discipline, can cause our hearts to become hardened and frustration will spill over into other areas of our life. How should believers understand divine discipline? Does God use discipline to grow us in our relationship with Him?
When King Asa relied on God, the Lord fought Judah's battles and the plunder from the Lord's victories flowed into the Temple. Later on, when King Asa was faced with another challenge, he decided not to trust God and relied on his own strength and wisdom. The result? A loss of Temple treasure. What can we learn from Asa's decisions? How do we keep from losing our Temple Treasure?

In a divided kingdom, Jeroboam (king of Israel) "reinvents" Yahweh to make the worship of God more convenient for Israel. King Asa (king of Judah) calls his kingdom to worship the God of their ancestors and to obey His law and commands. Are many people today worshipping the One True God or are they worshipping a reinvention of Him and His Son Jesus Christ? In modern times, have many Christians focused on a portion of God's attributes while neglecting other attributes? In this message, Pastor Mark sends out the call to worship the God of our ancestors.
In the earlier stages of King Asa's reign, he trusted in God alone when a great army invaded Judah. After God's deliverance and a period of rest, another army wished to do Judah harm but Asa chose to ask for help from another source. Pastor Mark takes another look at the story of Asa and how important it is to continuously walk in commitment and trust to God.

The Parable of the Sower tells of us four types of people. All come to hear what God has to say to them but only one has a heart prepared to receive what He says and thereby bear much fruit. In this message we are encouraged to take note of the state of our heart and to then ensure that we are not only hearing what God is saying to us be also living it. As His children, our goal is to bear much fruit, to the His glory.

As Jesus makes his way into Jerusalem, he begins to weep over the city. Why does he shed tears during a triumphant entry? Jesus knows he will ultimately be rejected and Israel was pay a price for not recognising the time of God's visitation. As Christians, can we still miss God? How do our hearts play a role in recognising or rejecting His visitation?
In Luke 14, Jesus speaks a parable about a certain man preparing a great banquet and inviting many guests. When the invited guests don't arrive, the man's servants go out and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind and lame. Afterwards, the servants go out into the roads and country lanes to compel people to attend the great banquet.
Imagine the final banquet scene of this parable.
Is this parable connected to the Messianic banquet? The Last Supper?
What can we learn about communion through this parable?
Has modern Christianity in the West lost the sense of cost when following Christ? Jesus' words are clear, "If you want to be my disciple, you must, by comparison, hate everyone else - father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters - yes, even your own life". What does Jesus mean by "hate"? In this message, we're reminded of both the costly and the glorious path of following Jesus.
Matthew is a story teller. In his gospel, Matthew retells the story of Israel in the first few chapters of his account of Jesus' life. Jesus is a greater, more faithful Israel. If Christians are found in Christ, we are in a greater story...Jesus' story.
A closing message in Malachi announces that an Elijah figure will arrive before God comes. Malachi instructs Israel how they should live while they anticipate His arrival. About 400 years later John the Baptist comes along and fulfills Malachi's prophecy. How did Israel respond to John's message and did they accept Christ as the Anticipated One?
As we anticipate Christ's return, how should we live? Are we living lives of great anticipation?
What evidence should we see in our lives if we are abiding in Him? With all the events taking place in the world, now is an opportunity to show the fruit of Christ in our lives.
John the Baptist was the forerunner to the Messiah. If God called someone to announce Christ's initial arrival, can we expect Him to raise up men and women to announce His second arrival?
In Luke 7, Jesus is in the home of a Pharisee when an immoral woman worships at His feet. How did Jesus use this interaction to teach the Pharisee? What does this story teach us today? One thing is certain, the story ends with a worshipper and a resistor.
Jesus desires to reveal himself to His followers. Over time, Jesus led his disciples into a place of discovering him more and more and a few of Jesus' close followers saw His true glory during the Transfiguration. After His resurrection, Jesus joined 2 men who were traveling to Emmaus and revealed himself while sharing a meal with Him. Can communion help us discover Jesus more?
