A podcast for anyone who has found their self disillusioned or discouraged in their faith journey and who wants to hold on to their faith while untangling it from all that is not good or true.
This episode is part 2 of the conversation that Amy Fritz and Melissa Hogan started in the previous episode. Amy shares more of what she was seeing in Ramsey Solutions that felt very similar to news of scandal with other Christian ministries and leaders. In this conversation Melissa and Amy talk about over two dozen resources they found helpful in recognizing and processing abusive and/or unhealthy organizations, understanding the hurdles whistle-blowers have to telling the truth, and the voices that gave them courage to speak up.

Amy and Melissa met when Melissa's husband at the time, and Nathan, Amy's husband, were working at Ramsey Solutions. Lawsuit Update: Hypocrisy and Double Standards at Ramsey Solutions Explicit content and language warning.
This is a conversation that was recorded for the Untangled Faith Patreon community in December of 2022. Since it has been about a year since there was much movement in the O'Connor lawsuit, I decided to share this audio publicly. If you hear any mention of "upcoming" dates, keep in mind that this was recorded almost a year ago.

While an undergrad at Liberty University, Kaitlyn Schiess detoured from her plan to go to law school after the ideas involved in the intersection of religion and politics captured her attention. That detour led to Dallas Seminary and Duke Divinity School instead of law school and it has lead to two books on the subjects we're not supposed to talk about in polite company: Religion and Politics.

Journalist Selome Hailu reported in an article for Variety, that “measured over the same nine-day period, the series has been responsible for the acquisition of more new Prime Video costumers than any other Amazon docuseries.
While many have been drawn to watch this docuseries because of interest in the Duggar family, once they turn in, they get an education on an organization the Duggars have been closely tied to.
And that organization was founded and led for many years by a man we now know to have been credibly accused of the sexual assault of multiple young women among other abusive behaviors.
On today’s episode I’ll share some of the history of that organization and some stories from those who participated in one way or another in this community.

In 2007, Pastor Neil Schori sat down with a woman who had come to him for marriage counseling. You probably recognize her name: Stacy Peterson.
Not long after that conversation, Stacy when missing and still has not been found.
Her husband, Drew Peterson, is serving time in prison for being convicted of murdering his previous wife.
Pastor Neil joins the Untangled Faith podcast to share his thoughts on the Steven Crowder video, what he wishes he had known about intimate partner violence and what friends and faith community leaders need to know to be safe places for those who may not even know they are in danger.

After spending her twenties running away from the church, Robin Wootton finds hope through a PCA church. And then it all started to crumble. Robin's husband (a PCA pastor) was fired while the COVID pandemic raged. In the subsequent months and years, she's given a lot of consideration to the false neutrality of the church's leadership. The 2nd most popular episode of 2022 was episode 39: The Problem with Financial Peace University and Dave Ramsey's Financial Rhetoric. This conversation we had was made possible by the fact that those of us involved in this episode have spent the last several years processing together our experiences with the ups and downs of Financial Peace University and the rhetoric coming from the Ramsey Show. While we all had different levels of understanding and adhering to the plan, each of us have found ourselves with serious questions. Some of these questions started before we broke ties with the organization and some of these realizations came later. We don’t claim to be unbiased observers. We all have had very painful and disappointing experiences with Ramsey Solutions, but we don’t think that negates the very real questions we raise.

Author, speaker, and professor, Dr. Wade Mullen, joins Amy Fritz for a conversation about impression management.
In 2018, Mullen earned a PhD in leadership and did his dissertation on how evangelical organizations use impression management strategies in the wake of an image-threatening event. He specifically focused on Mars Hill Church, Sovereign Grace Ministries (now Sovereign Grace Churches), and Bob Jones University for his dissertation.
In this episode Mullen shares the red flags of organizations using impression management in an abusive way, why it's so hard for leaders/organizations to apologize, and the role of a bystander.

Melissa is an author of the upcoming book Afraid of the Doctor. She's also a lawyer, rare disease awareness advocate, and she consults on clinical trial design and patient outcome measures. In other words, she's brilliant.
Amy and Melissa met when Melissa's husband at the time, and Nathan, Amy's husband, were working at Ramsey Solutions. In this episode they talk about how the events happening in the Evangelical world in 2018 and 2019, along with different strategic resources, helped to open their eyes red flags in the organization.
