Today brings this week all togteher. As I mentioned earlier, we can have no success in life until we examine our reasons for not succeeding before now. Regardless of the tools have have available to us, we will NOT succeed until we get honest about what we have allowed to get in our way of success until now.
It's great that you've examined your stories and have begun to tell yourself the truth.
It's great that you recognize the need to decide your attitude each day.
It's great that you're exploring each of your relationships to do what's necessary to either move on or get back into right relationship with them.
Now, you need to know WHY. Join me!
As spiritual beings we are ultimately alone in the world. Yet, as social beings, we thrive on connection with others. Far too often, though, we need connection with others so badly that we don't make the best of decisions when we let certain people in our circles. It's important to our success that we have only people in our lives who will support our efforts, our dreams, our energy and more. You and I cannot afford to allow anyone in our lives bring us down - be it a coworker, boss, client, neighbor, parent or even spouse. Join me!
Decide on an attitude of success! When I refer to attitude, I'm not simply implying "change your attitude" as if it were either good or bad. Too often, our attitude reflects the world around us and unfortunately, the world is pretty negative. Work environments are negative, homes are negative, schools at all levels are negative...we live and exist in an incredibly pessimistic, the 'sky is falling', things are going to get worse before they get better world. I'm suggesting that you and I decide we are going to take this world on each day and not anyone fuck with what we're going after in life. That we decide on an attitude that no one can penetrate. Join me!
Stop telling stories...they are the limiting beliefs, the excuses, the reasons that hold us back...and keep us safe. As I mentioned in my first show back, we cannot begin to consider succeeding in any endeavor until we learn what it is that has kept us back. We get our stories from our childhood, the communities we grew up in and the headlines from yesterday’s paper or internet news source. And, they're not real! We use stories to comfort us and justify why we didn't follow through or accomplish again what we laid out in front of us as "This year is going to be different". Join me!

Leading Life Large - I've heard and shared with others many times over how important it is to have a purpose - a rerason for WHY we do what we do. You've probably heard it too...have a BIG WHY. From experience, lacking one makes life tough as hell and having one gives reason not to hit that snooze alarm in the morning. If it were merely about telling the truth, most people would have it wired…though I know many struggle with even that. Authenticity seemed riskier than that to me and I did some research and found a TED talk on the issue delivered by Brené Brown. Leading Life Large - As a younger man, I was great at taking responsibility for choices and decisions until I believed I had no choice in the matter. Now read it this way…”I was great at taking responsibility until I didn’t have guts enough to take responsibility for the choice I made.” There were so many times when I would act and take responsibility for my choices until it got scary; and then I would look for any opportunity to say…”I had no choice!” Are you using "I have no choice" as an out? Leading Life Large - You are likely really good at what you do, whether it be for your business, relationships, your health and more. I am too, really good, that is in many areas of my life. I think this is true for most of us - we move into action when the pain of standing pat is too great. Leading Life Large™ - Talk about a guy who did it alone most of his life...that would be me. I did everything by myself for years. Invited into a business opportunity...I did by myself. Encouraged to have a mentor when learning how to lead teams...never called him once. Sought out a new hobby...alone. I wouldn't even include others in my life when I went to self-help groups. And success in any of those endeavors was elusive. Now comes the story part. On the outside, I was capable and didn't need the help of others or I enjoyed my time alone and doing things by myself. Deep down, though, my fear of being let down or rejected in relationship was a powerful driver in everything I did. Yes, there are times when we need to stand alone in what we believe and maybe what we need to do and there are many more times when success in an endeavor calls for inviting others to participate - calls for collaboration over isolation.
Leading Life Large - Clutter is not just what we see in the garage when we finally open the door and let the light in. Or in our closets or the 'junk' drawer (Of course, if any of these are familiar, you know you have work to do). Clutter is also the distractions and busyness we create in our lives that keeps us off-track from moving forward with what's most important to us. And there is no better time than now do to something about it.
Leading Life Large - I was recently reading an article offering to help us make adjustments in our thinking to the new economy - to stop referring to it as a 'bad' economy and adjust. What kept occurring to me throughout the article was that we would be so better equipped to handle anything if we were in better balance in our health. I know that when I am stressed because I don't have balance in my health, every one of my life challenges is even more challenging because of the lack of balance. Let's look at how we are out of balance so we can get back in health balance.

It's not that we become less likable, we simply become more discerning and know what we want from friendship. One friend we must be just as thoughtful about and cannot afford to be without is our money. That's right - we need to be in good relationship with our money so we can grow it. A study I recently read showed that every year we wait to retire beyond age 55, our life expectancy decreases two years. Put those together and we see a need to start taking time now while we have our health and our wits about ourselves and can truly enjoy and benefit from our time to ourselves. Every decision we make is risky. If it weren't, we would make decisions without hesitation. But they are risky and with every decision we risk failure. Aside from death and speaking in front of others, failure is what we fear most in life and we will do most anything to avoid feeling it - even not make decisions. So, being indecisve is understandable (still being gentle with you) and...we cannot afford to let indecisiveness halt our forward movement in any of our life endeavors. I've gotten to know the team pretty well and am able to take greater risks with them as we have some trust established between us. They have been hearing from me the past few weeks a mantra and a challenge that I promise to deliver each time I see them until my time there is done. I state "Each of you has something in your life that you want that you currently do not have" and then I ask "...and what are you going to do about it?" Many of them, though moved and somewhat determined, will allow our time to pass and will never take the first step to getting what they want. Leading Life Large™ - As I grow and evolve my business, I find it impossible to do it alone. In fact, I have learned that I am not supposed to do it alone. The joy becomes more about involving others in order that we all may succeed and this is a good. Leading Life Large - Throughout my life, I have gone after many accomplishments...and fallen short. While in the Navy I went after certifications and never finished them. After getting out I went after another career and went to school, but never took the certifying exam. I started businesses over that time certain they were going to deliver my dreams. You're getting point here. I was great at getting started, but not great at hanging in there and sticking to it until the end - I would quit. And when I do, it would seem there would be some comfort in that realization. There is for me the added pain of having to let someone in my world to even allow them to help me. Help is a good thing. I grew up living in rented houses whose addresses ended in '1/2' (the house behind the house) or space #17. Both my parents were hard workers and did the best they could to provide. My dad's prevailing attitude was there were those who were born into money and there were the rest of us. Without either one of them knowing it, . they kept money from coming into their lives because they believed it wouldn't. With the help of some great teachers, I have abandoned those beliefs and have made friends with my money and it's flow into my life. We still hear every day in the news reports (if you're watching that news) of the failing economy and the struggle that we are going to continue to be in for some time during this...economic climate. This attitude and constant focus on what we don't have is exactly what keeps people without - without money, without prosperity, without their dreams. This works when we think about not getting what we want (the pain) and having what we want (the pleasure). I have and do use this often in my business, which by the way, has lead to much success. Sometimes, however, the only way to achieve success is through the pain. This is where many of us come up short because we are wired to avoid pain, even at the expense of our success. Going it done alone at times reminds us all how capable we are – and that is admirable. And it has its limitations. Leading Life Large™ - As unpopular as it might sound this is a common time of year for companies to evaluate their gains and losses for the year and decide to restructure, cut costs and let people go. Layoffs in December are pretty common and for those of us outside the company, they can seem pretty harsh because the end of the year coincides with the holidays. This past week, a large company in Irvine laid off nearly 200 people, most of whom I had trained over some months. It is a good company with great people trying to 'right' itself. I am choosing to dedicate this morning's show to that great group of people in Irvine in hopes of offering some support as they make the transition. The show will serve us all to be completely grateful for exactly what has been delivered to us.
Leading Life Large™ - I want to accomplish and change many things in my life, or as we say...I have goals. In order for me to be able to reach and accomplish these goals, I have to make room for them. We need to embrace with real and genuine gratitude everything in our lives before we can change any part of our lives. Staying in resentment, anger and victim state will only help to keep us right where we are. When we can learn to be completely grateful for our current state, we allow space for change.

Our time, though filled with wonderful advancements through technology, has become one of the more difficult in memory. I believe a sign of that difficulty is the state of our youth. There are far too many, however, who will never get that chance because we have forgotten about them, ignored them, or just don't know what to do with them. I've got some ideas.
