About the Jessie Rees Foundation:

For more than 30 years, Erik Rees has dedicated himself to empowering people to use their lives to helping others. Erik began his career in 1993 as a pastor, strategist and trainer at world-renowned Saddleback Church, where he helped grow the congregation from 3,000 to more than 30,000 followers over a 20-year period. During this amazing time he helped train church leaders around the world on keys to building an "Empowering Church". In addition, he wrote several best selling's books: SHAPE: Finding & Fulfilling Your Purpose In Life and Only You Can Be You: 21 Days to Living Your Purpose.

On March 3, 2011 he and his wife, Stacey, were told their 11 year old daughter, Jessie, had terminal brain cancer. As Jessie started her treatment at Children's Hospital of Orange County, she discovered there were many other kids fighting cancer that couldn't leave the hospital. Upon hearing this news, Jessie created her fun-filled JoyJars to hand out. She also created and adopted her NEGU (Never Ever Give Up) message and motto, which she loved sharing. Sadly Jessie lost her fight to cancer on January 5, 2012.

Under the daily leadership with his wife, the Jessie Rees Foundation has become a beacon of help and hope for all children impacted by cancer. Since 2011, the foundation has raised over $32M, teamed up with over 40,000 volunteers, sent out over 420,000 JoyJars, and given away over $2.5M in financial support.

About Jim:

It was 1950, two years before Rock and Roll music that Jim Pyle of Wood River, IL began his journey that brings him to the Forged by Trust podcast. He caught his “Rambling Fever” in the backseat of a car that found it’s way across America due in part to lost jobs and lost opportunities his family was all too well accustomed.

Dreams turn into reality and redirection takes him to Bible College and Ministry back in the Midwest. It built a sound foundation for his next variation of himself as a Funeral home assistant and then Cemetery before-need counselor (fancy term for salesman) for the renowned Southern California Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Sales turned to sales training and then a return to the Midwest to manage three local cemeteries and take on another life influencing job as radio announcer and DJ for two radio stations, one in Kentucky WBCE and the other in Missouri KDEX.

All the jobs and business ventures never turned to careers till after the Marine Corp Barracks Bombing in Beirut, Lebanon 1983 turned his attention towards the military and a 20 year career found it’s root January of 1984 as an Interrogator, Interrogator trainer, Resistance to Interrogation support, Strategic Debriefing, Strategic Debriefing Instructor and a post military career of Interrogation, Strategic Debriefing, Elicitation, and Advanced Negotiations and Mediations for all Special Operations services.

Twenty years active-duty military service, nearly 20 years post retirement military training produced two books co-authored with Maryann Karinch, “Find out Anything About Any Body Any Time” and “Control the Conversation.”

Smarts and hard work got Jack out into the world, where he started a career teaching chemistry and math at a well-known university. Then his life took a fantastic detour – Jack was recruited by the KGB and infiltrated into the US where he spent ten years spying for the Soviet Union. He “resigned” from the KGB and was eventually discovered by the FBI. Today, Jack is a law abiding patriotic American citizen who is taking advantage of one last chance to live a normal life.
