When Mariah is out of town, I just sit and listen to music all day... She doesn't go out of town (without me) very often! Today, however, I've got time and tunes... Let's have some fun!

Support the artists and do YOURSELF a favor!

Hey folks! Ready for some interesting tunes??? These are all songs I really enjoy, so hopefully there will be one or two that you find amusing, as well! If you DO enjoy any of these tracks, maybe consider BUYING one of them, either physically or as a digital download - especially if you can grab the product directly from the ARTISTS. Streaming services don't adequately compensate artists for their efforts, so if you really want to keep the tunes alive, try to support the artists you love DIRECTLY!!! Got me? Good! Let's hear some tunes!!!

In the meantime, if you DID like any of these tracks, please consider purchasing something from the performers! Avoid streaming services, where artists are the LAST to receive any benefit, and instead go to Bandcamp or the performers’ personal websites and give them some support!!!

Thanks for stopping by!!!

I don’t know why I keep making “radio shows,” aside from the fact that I love music (and I have at least two friends who are marginally entertained by these things! [Two is plenty! THREE, if you count me…and I do!]) So here we are, another radio thing…

This one is being billed (by me…passive voice just seems to fit the mood better than active right now) as “the alternative to the alternative.” (See the “COVER IMAGE” for this episode for details…) What I mean by this is that I’m going to play whatever I want. Ready for that?

Post Apocalypse Radio – 01!

Approx… 31 minutes!

[New intro “song” made by me with a toy piano, a mic, and Audacity]

---Devo – “Through Being Cool” from New Traditionalists (1981)

---Silicon Teens – “You Really Got Me” from Music for Parties (1980)

---Silver Apples – “Mustang Sally” from The Garden (1998)

---The Olivia Tremor Control – “I’m Not Feeling Human (Peel Session)” from John Peel Session 18.3.97 (2000)

---Jean-Michel Jarre & Gary Numan – “Here for You” from Electronica 2: The Heart of Noise (2016)

---The Chemical Brothers – “The Darkness That You Fear (The Blessed Madonna Remix)” from The Darkness That You Fear (The Blessed Madonna Remix) single (2021)

---Nina Hagen – “TV Snooze” from Fearless (1983)

---Buzzcocks – “I Don’t Mind” from Singles Going Steady (1979)

[A quick note from the selector… Then silence…]

This was fun! I think the 30 minute format might be more my speed than a full hour (which is what the Puntronic show tended to run.) Get in, play some tunes, get out! DONE!

Thanks for stopping by!

I’m picking cuts that most people might not already know…) The tracks included in this show were chosen out of LOVE and included for educational / aesthetic purposes only. If you enjoyed any of these tracks, please consider PURCHASING a copy, either physical or digital. (Read: NOT STREAMING. Pays shit for royalties, and we want the ARTISTS to get some support for the works they make, not just the stupid labels…)

It’s been over a month since my last show, which probably didn’t mean much to anyone but me, but I, for one, missed making episodes. Now, after all the rigmarole is over, I can chill and play some tunes again! And by CHILL, I actually mean “die of heat stroke.” It’s supposed to be upwards of 100 degrees (f) here in the next few days. That’s awfully hot! Maybe these tunes will help keep things COOL (psychologically, if not physically…) Here’s hoping!!!

Punktronic Disco Dirge Pirate Radio Podcast – Episode 41

---Moderator – “Wish I Was Dead” from Midnight Madness (2021)

And that’s that! Hopefully, there’s a track or two here that you enjoyed! My goal with these shows is to point out some fun tunes, things that might slip under the radar of most listeners. If you found yourself tapping your toe (or pogoing uncontrollably) to any of these songs, then definitely see if you can find a copy, either on physical media or digital, and BUY the track. We’ve got to support people who are making cool tunes. (As always, the music selected for this show was chosen for educational / aesthetic purposes only, and so that I could share the music I love with the world. I own every track that I played in this program. FUCK streaming services!)

Thanks for stopping by! Let me know if you’ve got a cool band or track in your clutches that you think I should hear! I’m always on the lookout for something exciting and new to listen to!

Hopefully, you have a good time listening!!! (These are all songs that I can listen to over and over again…but I’m a weirdo, so maybe this won’t be “everyday listening” for you folks---but I guarantee, there’s some interestin’ tracks here!!!) Are you smoking a doobie? If so, you’re SMOKIN’ WITH SATAN!!! (I love old public service announcements---especially when they’re totally bonkers nonsense… Satanic Panic era PSAs can be masterpieces.) What does any of this have to do with today’s musical episode? Not a gosh darned thing! And that’s the way it should be. (Mr. Yates don’t smoke no doobies no more! He doesn’t care if YOU indulge, he’s just too cheap to pay for pot!) Maybe smokin’ a doobie or two will help you get into the SPIRIT of this playlist… Who’s to say??? However you like to listen, here’s the tune…

ENJOY!

Punktronic Disco Dirge – Ep. 39

Approx. 1 hour and 8 minutes

[Intro doobies]

---Frank Zappa – “I Come from Nowhere” from Ship Arriving Too Late to Save a Drowning Witch (1982)

[Closing remarks!]

Hopefully, you had a bit of fun with this set! The tunes were a bit electronic leaning this time, but I made sure to throw a couple punk cuts in there to keep the world in balance! If you enjoyed any of these cuts, try to grab a single or an album from the performer off of Bandcamp or from some other service (besides streaming bullshit) so the artists get a fair cut! We’ve got to support the folks who make interesting music, so they’ll keep going!!!

Hey folkarinos, this is your old pal Stinky Wizzle-Teets… (Sorry. Slipped into Ren & Stimpy for a second there…) Today’s host is actually Old Lady Dental-Floss, the golden gal with the penchant for post-punk! She’s picked most of today’s tunes, and her tastes run towards the ALTERNATIVE! Hopefully, there’s a cut or two in this batch that you’ll enjoy! If not, there’s always NEXT TIME!!!

This here playlist got kinda weird. I’m not saying I’m sorry because I LOVE all of these songs. For the casual listener, there might be a few “pop” type moments in here (honestly, the punk track by Chemical People is probably the easiest listening in this whole list), but after that, it goes pretty crazy. Firewater is post-grunge alternative rock, Glitch Mob’s takedown of White Stripes is awesome, but might not appeal to fans of either band; I threw an early Skate World classic in there, plus some techno/housy stuff… And towards the end, it just goes off the rails completely in a glorious disaster of sounds and rhythms. Personally, this might be one of my favorite playlists so far… (That should be a warning to most of my regular listeners…)

Thanks for stopping by! If you enjoyed any of these tracks, I encourage you to seek out a physical or digital copy and purchasing it for yourself. Not only will you get to keep it if the streaming service you usually listen to goes out of bizniz, but the performer (if they’re still alive) will get a larger chunk of the cash. The tracks chosen for this listen where picked because I love them and shared here for educational / appreciation purposes only! KEEP THE MUSIC ALIVE!

---Chuck Roast – “Antique Waves” from Privacy Act of 19 Whatever (2017)

---Dominick Kreep & The Grim County Coroners – “Phantom of the Luau” from Tiki Surf Witches Want Blood OST (2020)

---Alice Cooper – “Still No Air” from Easy Action (1970)

---Transmutator – “A Fifth of Beethoven” from Take Over (1997)

---Dominatrix UK – “Possession” from Rising High Techno Injection (1992)

---japaneseCARCRASH – “Kiss Kiss – aggro” from Notes from thee Real Underground Volume 5 (2003)

Since I don’t really foresee very many people making it through this entire playlist, I’m not doing a “reading of the list” closing chat for this episode. In particular, I know that japaneseCARCRASH is a difficult cut to listen to, from the harsh squealing feedback to the odd, almost school-yard chanting… So why did I play a song that I don’t think many people will enjoy? Two reasons: (1) I love the song. It’s odd and uncomfortable (and that feedback is downright painful with ear-buds in), but the song is interesting and has a cool hypnotic quality. I also like all of the sci-fi noises. (2) This is EXACTLY the type of song that tends to get lost. It’s not on a gigantic label, it’s not a hummable pop hit, and it’s really, really strange. One of the most important factors, for me, in producing this program is to bring these little known gems to light so that, maybe, someone will take an interest and dig up a few of the other tracks by this group. (Or whichever performers might strike their fancy!)

I’m in it for the MUSIC. I’m sharing tunes that I enjoy in the hopes that other people will also love them and give the artists who made them a chance…(and, if all goes well, you might slide them a couple of bux, too! We want the people who make cool stuff to get a chance to EAT!!!) If you are interested in any of these songs, consider buying a copy, either physical or digital! Keep the music makers making music! (The tracks were included in this program were chosen for education / appreciation purposes only! Not everything is a goddam conspiracy…)

Thanks for stopping by!!!

[I read the list to you, and you are grateful (but not dead.)]

And that’s today’s thrill packed action adventure fest! This was a bit of a trip, but I think the mix moves pretty well! (Well, I like it anyway…) These tracks were all chosen because I love them and are played here for educational / appreciation purposes only! (KEEP THESE TUNES ALIVE!!!) If you enjoyed anything on this list, please consider purchasing a copy (either physical or digital) as opposed to just listening to the track on a streaming service. I’ve said a hundred times in various places why I don’t approve of streaming services, but the main reason is that the artists who MADE the music don’t get much of the profit, even though it’s their works that people are enjoying. Paying for a track (even a buck or two for a digital download) helps the artists eat and (subsequently) produce more music for the entire universe to enjoy! Do your part, if you’re enjoying the show! Ya?

Thanks for stopping by!!!

Howdy folks! This here is episode 33 of the Punktronic Pirate Radio Hour! Hopefully, you brought your candles and blankets for this episode, cuz it’s another BOOKENDER. I’m starting with a song called “Nightmares,” and I’m ending with a different song called “NightMares!” The stuff in-between ain’t really that nightmarish, but that’s okay. It’s still FUN! Ready?

Let’s do it…

Punktronic Disco Dirge – Ep. 33!

Approx. 1 hour and 7 minutes

[Intro smintro blintro gunk…]

---Violent Femmes – “Nightmares” from Permanent Record – The Very Best of the Violent Femmes (2005) (song originally released in 1989)

---David Bowie – “The Jean Genie (Original Single Mix)” from Aladdin Sane (2003) (song originally released in 1972)

---Frenchy – “Ribcage Mambo” from Halloween Hootenanny (1998)

---They Might Be Giants – “Purple Toupee” from Then: The Early Years (1997) (song originally released in 1988)

---The Posies – “I May Hate You Sometimes” from Failure (1988)

---Little Richard – “Lucille” from Juke-Box Era Vol 4 (2000) (song originally released in 1957)

---Beck – “Devil’s Haircut” from Odelay (1996)

---Playgroup – “Make It Happen” from Playgroup (2002)

---DJ Hell – “For Your Love” from Munich Machine (1998)

---The Chemical Brothers – “Life is Sweet” from Exit Planet Dust (1995)

---Reptilicus – “Theoleptic Head” from O (1994)

---The Nomads – “Where the Wolf Bane Blooms” from Children of Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the Second Psychedelic Era 1976-1996 (2005) (song originally released in 1983)

---Timebase – “Unity” from Techno’s Greatest Hits Vol. 1 – Sub Base for Your Face (1993) (song originally released in 1991)

---Russ – “Cherry Hill” from There’s Really a Wolf (2017)

---A Flock of Seagulls – “NightMares” from The Best of A Flock of Seagulls (1986) (song originally released in 1983)

[Ceremonial reading of the LIST!]

And that, as they say, is THAT! How many people actually make it all the way to the end on these shows? I might never know. (I suspect that it isn’t too many. Once stuff gets a bit “difficult” [I’m looking at you, REPTILICUS!], I bet I lose a few folks… But I love weirdo music, and bands like Reptilicus and Captain Beefheart and The Tear Garden really need to be heard by more people. Sure, they’re unsettling and uncomfortable to hear, but they are doing something interesting and original and trippy! FREE YOUR MIND, AND YOUR ASS WILL FOLLOW, as Uncle George Clinton always says…)

If you liked any of these tracks, please consider purchasing a copy, either physically or digitally, instead of just punching the songs into a streaming service because those types of sites don’t tend to pay artists very well. However, a place like Bandcamp gives indie folks and other weirdos a chance to make a couple of bucks doing what they enjoy! The tracks chosen for this playlist were included for educational / appreciation purposes only! We want this music to survive and thrive. That’s why I’m sharing these tunes!!!

Later, folks!!!

“Punktronic Disco Dirge – Ep. 32! (Pirate Radio!!!)” - Selections by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

I can see the effects of the sun through my window. There is an odd BRIGHTNESS to the world, which produces both happiness and cancer! (The Universe is mad.) (But we shall have our revenge by being MADDER than the rest of the Cosmos! Ha!!!) So---as spring careens towards summer, it occurs to me that music could be useful in fulfilling that transformation! (I will write an entire post on the “USES” of music soon. This topic is bubbling and boiling in my brain…but now is the time for the listening, not the scripting of thoughts…)

Tally-HOOOOOO!

Punktronic Disco Dirge – Ep. 32

Approx 1 hour and 6 minutes

---Drum Club – “Sound System” from Plug In + Turn On (1994) (song originally released in 1993)

[Reading of the list!]

There we go! Blammed right through that set! Only eleven tracks this time, but a couple of them were pretty damn long! (Silver Apples and Drum Club were about 10 minutes each!) Hopefully, you enjoyed this journey from punk to postpunk to goth-metal to psychedelic synth to hip hop to drum and bass and on to trance…for a full dang ride…

Each of these tracks was played because I enjoy them and for education / appreciation purposes only. If you also enjoyed any of these cuts, feel free to drop a couple of bux buying a digital or physical copy! (I already own them all!!!) Musician have to eat! (Unless they’re no longer with us, in which case, their kids or grandkids might need to eat…) Support folks who make cool stuff!

Thanks for stopping by!!!

DJ Fried Chicken controls the decks today (I’m honestly not using records because my shithead cats would pounce on the spinning disks causing untold horror…), so you never KNOW what you’re going to get… Good chance it will be NEW WAVY and a bit PUNK-like and have some ELECTRONIC sounds and would probably piss off your Sunday school teacher (if you ever had one of those… I had a few, and I outlived them ALL!!!! Ha ha ha ha!!!)

DJ Fried Chicken ain’t playin’ around! (Actually, he is.) [And, by the way, the “Fried Chicken” refers to the fact that I had to sit in a hot car in the sun today while my wife and younger daughter shopped, and I got all crispy-bar-b-cued… Actually, I could have just gone in with them, I guess… BUT NO! There were PEOPLE in that store, and I don’t DO people very well…]

Let’s play some tunes:

Punktronic Disco Dirge – Ep. 31

Approx. 1 hour and 8 minutes

[DJ Fried Chicken Intro]

---Blondie – “Fade Away and Radiate” from Parallel Lines (1978)

---Mojo Nixon – “Elvis is Everywhere” from Bo-Day-Shus!!! (1986)

---Messer Chups – “Christopher Lee vs. Bruce Lee” from Spook-O-Rama (2019)

---The Luvmenauts – “Spice Always Flows” from Extravehicular Activity EP (2021)

---Death Grips – “No Love” from No Love Deep Web (2012)

---Modeselektor feat. Jackson and His Computer Band – “Hood” from Extended (2021)

---Broken Bells – “The Ghost Inside” from Broken Bells (2010)

---Ariel Pink – “Plastic Raincoats in the Pig Parade” from Pom Pom (2014)

---Furniture – “Transatlantic Cable” from When the Boom Was On EP (1983)

---Aly & AJ – “Listen!!!” from a touch of the beat gets you up on your feet gets you out and then into the sun (2021)

---Tommy Guerrero – “Rise of the Earth People” from Sunshine Radio (2021)

---Freebass feat. Howard Marks – “Dark Starr” from Two Worlds Collide EP (2010)

---Red Flag – “Stranger Than Fiction (Fictitious Mix)” from RMXDI (2008)

---Sprung Monkey – “Coconut” from Get a Taste (2001)

---Tylervision – “Purdy Deyenol” from Transmitting from Heaven (1993)

---The Fraternity of Man – “Don’t Bogart Me (aka Don’t Bogart That Joint)” from Easy Rider Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (1969)

[The reading of the list…]

And that was this week’s show!!! Hopefully, there was a track or two here that you enjoyed! If so, it behooves you to purchase either a rekkid or a dig-it-al download of said entertainment audio from the creators (instead of just playing the track in some silly, streaming service where you don’t own nuthin’ and where the artists get like a fraction of a penny per play… People gotta eat, and they can’t do that on penny-fractions!) These tracks were chosen for their evil qualities and played for educational / appreciation purposes only! Be mindful of creative folks who don’t get no breaks and keep the artists (especially the NOISE artists) fed!!!

Later!

---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)
