Hey all!
Today we’re introducing Image Understanding capabilities to Opera One for iOS. Now, you can upload any image to the Aria browser AI and get information and context about it while on the go.
Let’s say you’re on a trip to Norway. You’re walking along Oslo’s beautiful waterfront, and you see a curious looking, wedge-shaped building. You upload a photo, or take a few directly from the chat with Aria, and ask what the building is, and about its architectural and historical significance. Presto! Aria tells you that you’re looking at the city’s famous Opera House, which you can walk atop for a great view of the Oslo Fjord.
Similarly, you might visit the Munch Museum and explore the artistic style and cultural relevance of Edward Munch,or upload a shot of a Norwegian spruce while out on a hike to learn about new species and broaden your knowledge.
Your AI-centric iOS browserReleased back in August, the AI-centric Opera One for iOS is an elegant, intuitive browser that features simplified commands and a full screen mobile interface.
With gesture-drive UI, all you need to do to access the search function is swipe down. Similarly, the revamped newsfeed is accessible just by swiping up. Plus there’s a new navigation style, Bottom Search, that shifts the search bar to the bottom of the screen to make it easier to use your iPhone with one hand.
Opera One for iOS is also designed to maximize screen space and minimize distractions. The top bar and Bottom Search bar vanish when you start scrolling, for example, and the status bar and navigation bars adjust to the color of the webpage you’re on. That way you can always stay immersed in just what you’re looking at.
And of course, Opera One for iOS comes with Aria, our free, built-in browser AI. Aria can help out with all sorts of inquiries, answer product questions – even generate text or code! And our AI tool is regularly updated to incorporate new capabilities like Image Understanding, with recent additions including Voice Input – so that iOS users can speak queries aloud rather than have to type them out – and Image Generation.
So join the growing number of users who are discovering a reimagined iOS browsing experience – download Opera One for iOS today!
Hey all,
We’ve got some exciting news to share: Opera One for iOS has just won the MUSE Design Award for 2024. This is a big moment for us, and we’re thrilled that our hard work to create a better mobile browser experience has been recognized.
Opera One for iOS marries the aesthetics of the (also) award-winning Opera One desktop browser with a full screen mobile interface and simplified user commands – basically, it’s all about making browsing on iOS easier and more enjoyable.
We’ve introduced a new navigation style, Bottom Search, which shifts the search bar to the bottom of the screen. Bottom Search makes it easier for you to use your phone with one hand, so it’s especially useful when on the go. Now you can switch between all three navigation styles – Standard Navigation, Fast Action Button, and Bottom Search – to find the one that best suits your needs.
We’ve also made it super easy to search when you’re out and about. Predictive chips supply search suggestions to help you find what you’re looking for faster, and with fewer clicks. Plus, with the new swipe to search functionality, you can pull up the search bar anytime you need it with just a quick swipe upwards.
Opera One for iOS has been designed to be clean and simple, so you can focus on what matters most – your content. The top bar and new Bottom Search bar, for example, vanish when you start scrolling on a page, while the color of the top and status bars adjusts to the hue of the web page you’re on. The result is a full screen browsing experience in which you are entirely immersed in what’s at hand.
Meet Aria: Your Built-In AI AssistantOpera One for iOS comes with our AI assistant, Aria, built right into the browser. Aria is a free, unlimited built-in browser AI that comes with up-to-date results from the web. It helps you get things done faster, whether that’s finding information, generating text or code, or even answering product queries while you browse. It’s like having a smart, helpful friend with you every time you’re online.
We’re constantly updating Aria to integrate exciting new AI features, and with Opera One for iOS, we’ve added two more. The first is Voice Input, which lets you simply ask questions aloud rather than have to type them out – perfect for busy people on the go. The second is image generation, with which you can create any image that’s on your mind based on the input that you provide. Powered by Google’s Imagen2 image generation model, Aria will allow you to refine your image until it’s exactly what you want – as well as copy the image to the clipboard, save it, share it, or even set it as your device’s wallpaper.
A Big Thank You to Our UsersWinning the MUSE Design Award is a huge honor – last year over 10,000 entries were recorded, but only the select few won. Honored as we are, we know that we couldn’t have done it without you, our users. Your feedback and support have been key to making Opera One for iOS what it is today, and we’re committed to continuing to bring you the best browsing experience possible.
If you haven’t tried Opera One for iOS yet, now’s the perfect time! Download it from the App Store and see for yourself why it’s been recognized as one of the best mobile browsers out there.
We’re introducing a new AI feature into your Android mobile device for you to use on-the-go: Image Understanding. This feature allows you to upload any image to the Aria browser AI and get information and context about it. You can upload images from your gallery, or access your camera directly from the chat with Aria. Not long ago we added Image Understanding to the desktop version of Opera, and now we’re bringing this feature right into your pocket.
Now, you can use this powerful feature anywhere! For example, when you’re traveling and want to know more about the places you’re visiting, you can take a picture directly from the chat with Aria and ask about it. Or, maybe you find something interesting you want to know more about on your daily commute and your curiosity gets the better of you, Aria’s Image Understanding is right at your fingertips.
To access the Image Understanding feature, open a chat with Aria in the browser by tapping the menu icon and then on “Aria Browser AI”. Then, tap on the “+” sign to the left of the chat input field, upload an image or take a picture by accessing your camera. Additionally, you can take a picture directly by tapping on the camera icon to the right of the chat input field.
We’re rolling out this feature in Opera Beta for Android version85 first, and expect to introduce it in the stable version of Opera for Android in the near future.
Get to know more with Image Understanding on the goWith Image Understanding you can know more about what’s around you no matter where you are. Let’s say you’re traveling and you found a cool-looking monument that caught your attention, so you take out your phone, open your Opera browser, and start a chat with Aria.
Aria uses Image Understanding to identify the elements in the image and provides the information that you’ve requested in the prompt. Now you know what that monolith-like monument in Stockholm is called, what it’s made of, where it’s located, and we’ve also got some general information about that location.
Now, the use you give to Image Understanding is up to you, for example I got a bit angsty the other day due to an unexpected visitor while I was having lunch, so I asked Aria about it to get some answers:
I’m glad I asked Aria about this, since I was tempted to interact with the goose and maybe pet it – I guess peace was never an option in this case. In the end, this just shows how it’s useful to have Aria available to help with anything while on-the-go. And now, Image Understanding adds up even more to Aria’s capabilities for Android users.

Hello everyone!
Opera takes user privacy very seriously, and we are constantly working on providing an experience that’s both rewarding and positive as well as safe and secure. Our latest focus has been on delivering much-requested privacy features for Opera Mini, our lean mobile browser that’s beloved for its versatility across different tiers of Android devices and its unique data-saving features.
The latest feature that went live on Opera Mini a few weeks ago is PIN-Locked Browsing, which lets you keep your mobile browsing private and separate from regular browsing with the help of a unique PIN. In this blog, we’ll take a closer look at how PIN-Locked Browsing works, and how to make the most of it.
Keep your browsing to yourself Privacy-enhancing features are increasingly requested by users. 94% of our mobile users expressed a significant demand for a password protection feature, especially when sharing devices with family or friends. PIN-Locked Browsing addresses precisely these types of situations. Moreover, it takes just a second to switch between the regular browsing mode and the Locked Mode, making it much easier for users to control their mobile browsing environment.
When activating Locked Mode for the first time, you will be asked to set a PIN. This PIN is specifically for Opera Mini’s Locked Mode and is separate from the main lock code of the device. If you have already set up a PIN for your Private Downloads, it will be the same for Locked Mode. If you’re setting up a PIN for the first time, it will be used for the Private Downloads feature as well.
You can choose to browse in regular mode or Locked mode. When browsing in Locked Mode, you have:
Locked Mode can easily be activated from the O-Menu or with the toggle on the tab switcher view in Opera Mini. Just open your Opera Mini, turn on Locked Mode, set up your secure PIN, and you are good to go! In order to be more secure, we recommend setting up a PIN for Locked Mode that is not the same one you use on your phone or elsewhere.
A range of privacy-enhancing featuresOf course, Opera Mini already has its existing privacy-enhancing features like the native Ad Blocker and Private Downloads.
Opera Mini’s native Ad Blocker provides you with a smooth browsing experience without the annoying popup ads, which can also consume more mobile data. And you don’t need any extra set-up or installing new software to use it. Simply click Settings in O-Menu and toggle on “Block ads”. You can also easily enable or disable the feature from the Easy Setup menu.
Private Downloads gives you a PIN-protected download folder, right in your browser. By setting up your private folder, you ensure that your personal documents and media stay just that – personal.
Ready to experience more secure and private browsing with no interruptions? Download Opera Mini now!

Hello there!
We’re excited to invite you to the new beta version of Opera for iOS that features an overhauled user interface inspired by the award-winning aesthetics of Opera One. Now available for testing, our reimagined iOS browser is scheduled for an official launch with initial features and updates later this summer.
The new Opera for iOS introduces a sleek, intuitive navigation system wrapped in a clean, modular interface. The address bar moves to the bottom of the browser for maximum convenience, and then disappears altogether when you start scrolling through a webpage. This allows you to now switch between three navigation styles: Standard Navigation, Fast Action Button, and the new bottom address bar.
The updates on the start page aren’t stopping here: the old newsfeed has been replaced with a start page carousel. Swiping through this carousel will display a highlighted newsfeed that opens a separate news page, providing you with more in-depth coverage and enabling you to mindfully read the news without distraction. Additionally, it features the latest football matches on live scores, ensuring you won’t miss any action from your favorite teams.
Other new features in this update include swipe to search and new search suggestions. Swipe to search will be quite familiar to iOS users, as it’s a gesture you use all the time when searching for apps on your iPhone. Now, you can simply swipe to search to open the search menu if you don’t want to go through the standard or bottom bar navigation. And new search suggestions make it much more intuitive to find what you’re looking for in the browser by providing keywords that are related to your search so you don’t have to type out the whole query.
A powerful, personal AI-powered browser
Opera for iOS focuses on speed and security, with a range of built-in, user-friendly features such as ad and tracker blockers and a free VPN.
And like all of our flagship products, Opera for iOS features Aria – our free, unlimited browser AI. With up-to-date results from around the web – plus the ability to assist in a range of tasks such as information retrieval, text or code generation, and product inquiries – Aria lets you boost your creativity and productivity by harnessing the power of AI. And Voice Input – which allows you to speak your queries aloud, rather than need to type them out – furthermore makes Aria the perfect AI assistant while you’re on the go.
In addition, in this new beta version of the browser, you can ask Aria to generate images in your phone using Google’s Imagen2 image generation model. To do so, all you have to do is prompt Aria to make whatever it is that’s in your head, and our browser AI will turn it into a reality. If it’s not exactly what you had envisioned, Aria can further refine the image until you’re satisfied. From there you can copy the image clipboard, save it, share it – even set it as your phone’s wallpaper.
So whether you’re a tech nerd or a daily iOS user looking to see what we’ve cooked up next, we invite you to join the beta testing of the newly updated Opera for iOS. To participate in the beta, sign up here to receive the Opera for iOS testflight link. You can submit your feedback directly via TestFlight or on our social media channels and Opera forums.

Hello there Opera fans,
Opera Mini users in Nigeria saved a whopping 5 Billion Naira worth of data* – which equates to over 3,760,000 Gigabytes – in 2023 thanks to our free data campaigns! And that’s on top of Opera Mini’s unique Data Compression technology, allowing free data to last longer.
This is a major achievement that we are excited to share with you, and it further underscores Opera’s commitment to its Africa First strategy.
How We’re Making the Internet more Accessible
To make our free data campaigns possible, we teamed up with long-time partners like Airtel and MTN. When using a supported network, Opera Mini users can benefit from up to 1.5GB of free data every single month! These campaigns have been a huge hit, with over 3.5 million users getting in on the action and making the internet way more accessible for everyone.
Opera Mini is the ultimate data-saving browser, which allows you to go online for longer thanks to its unique Data Compression technology that shrinks down websites so your data goes way further. That 1.5GB of free data? It could last up to 90% longer on Opera Mini than on other browsers – that’s up to 10 times more browsing!
Bridging the Digital Divide
Opera has pledged to bridge the digital divide in Africa and committed over $100M to support digitalization across the continent as part of its Africa First Strategy. Today’s announcement represents a significant milestone, as well as a testament to our commitment to positively impact African people and communities.
We believe that having access to the internet should be a basic human right, and with Opera Mini we are breaking down the barriers and providing affordable access to information. This helps you to stay informed, entertained, and empowered to make the most of the internet and its boundless possibilities.

Hey Opera fans!
We’ve got something exciting for our users in Europe and the United States: from April 3rd to April 22nd 2024, get ready for the world’s biggest AI scavenger hunt! Available across the desktop versions of Opera and Opera GX, plus Opera for Android and Opera for iOS, you’ll solve clues with the help of our browser AI, Aria, for a chance to win from a prize pool worth $20,000.
So how does this work? Firstly, you’ll need to have an Aria account in order to participate. So if you haven’t already created your account with our free, up-to-date browser AI, now’s the perfect time. You can either create an Opera account when you open Aria, or use your Google credentials to sign in.
On the day the contest kicks off, April 3rd, the first clue will become available at 3:00 PM CET. Ask Aria for it – by saying, for example, “Hello Aria! Could you provide today’s clue for the Aria Scavenger Hunt?” – and your browsing copilot will give you the clue in the form of a prompt. We don’t want to say too much about what they’ll be here – we can’t give it away! – but the clue will be some kind of riddle for you to solve or exercise to complete. When you think you’ve worked out the answer, write to Aria with your guess! The browser AI will then let you know whether you’re correct.
Submitting your clue The first time that you get the correct answer, you’ll need to head to the Aria Scavenger Hunt webpage where you’ll create a username, input your Aria email, and click “Submit.” After that, you’ll see your username pop up on the leaderboard!
So how can I climb higher in the leaderboard, you’re probably wondering? Well, clues are accessible every two days at 3:00 PM CET. The faster you solve the clue and submit your answer on the Scavenger Hunt page, the higher rank you get. So make sure to set your alarms, and solve them quickly!
And what’s the reward if I do, you ask? Well, every five days we’ll award $1,000 worth of cash prizes to the two fastest participants on the leaderboard!
The prizes At the end of the competition, we’ll add together the cumulative scores to see who collected the most points. The contestant who finishes in first place receives a whopping $4,000 in cash! $3,000 will be divided between the players who finish between 2nd and 4th, while a further $3,000 will be split among the 5th to 10th place finishers. Finally, $2,000 in Amazon vouchers will be disbursed among those who place 11th and 20th.
That’s already a lot at stake, but you might have noticed that $4,000 for our daily leaders and $12,000 in final day winnings is still only $16,000 – so where’s the rest?
Well, that’s for you to find out! Among the clues you’ll discover an Easter egg. Keen-eyed observers will see that there will be clues to discover in physical locations…but we can’t say any more than that! But if you’re clever enough to figure it out – and lucky enough to be in one of a few places (we’ll give you a hint – they’re in Europe!) – you can win cash prizes.
So get yourself ready for 20 days of excitement, in which you can win big! Download Opera, make an account with Aria, and join the Aria Scavenger Hunt.
Hello there Opera fans,
Since March 7th, smartphone users across the European Union have been seeing a ballot screen asking them which browser they want to set as their default – and with greater freedom of choice has come a huge spike in the number of daily users for our flagship mobile browser! Just between March 5th and March 7th, we saw a 164% increase in new users of Opera for iOS across the EU. Clearly, mobile users out there care about browser choice and are excited to try alternative browsers that, like Opera, deliver a superior online experience!
Users Have Taken Control!Opera’s having a big moment in Europe, with new users flocking to Opera’s mobile browsers in the aftermath of the DMA’s new regulations. In particular, iOS users have been especially eager to try something new. France has led the way, with the number of new daily users growing five times over, at an astonishing rate of 402%! Meanwhile, new Opera for iOS users in Spain increased by 143%, while Poland and Germany, 68% and 56%, respectively.
Android users are getting on board too, especially in France, where new daily Opera users increased by 54% once the ballot screen started to appear. The results agree with the findings of a survey* Opera conducted among European smartphone users prior to March 6th, which found that 8 out of 10 were open to testing a new browser.
So, Why Are People Choosing Opera?Privacy and security are the top concern for most smartphone users we surveyed around the European Union. With Opera, you are in control, as both Opera for Android and Opera for iOS feature a free, built-in VPN. Our flagship mobile browsers also come with integrated ad and tracker blockers, as well as a cookie dialog blocker.
AI services are another hot topic for smartphone users, a movement that Opera has been in the vanguard of since early 2023. Aria, our free, native browser AI, can provide you up-to-date information from around the web, intelligent suggestions and recommendations, voice navigation, automated browsing tasks, and more, serving as a true AI browsing copilot.
Aria now also comes with Ask Aria and Aria Voice. Ask Aria comes with two options: “Summarize” or “Tell me more.” So the browser AI can either help boil down long or complicated pieces of text, or it can give you more context and information when encountering something new. Aria Voice, meanwhile, will be your on-the-go assistant with which you can chat to get up-to-date information for your daily queries.
Finally, Opera has always been about making the browsing experience yours! Options for customization and personalization abound: From custom wallpapers, to Bookmarks and Speed Dials, light and dark color themes and more – Opera’s mobile browsers allow you to quickly jump into what matters most, and in your own unique style!
So find out why new users are rushing to ditch the default – download Opera today!

Hello readers,
Big changes recently came to the mobile browser world! As of March 6th, if you’re based in the European Union, you likely saw a new ballot screen asking you to pick your default browser on Android and iOS. This is a result of the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA) which aims to bring more openness to the market. This represents a great opportunity to discover and try out new browsers, so we wanted to share some things you should consider when exploring your mobile browser options.
Why is being able to select your default browser important?
The DMA is an EU regulation that requires big tech companies designated as “gatekeepers” to open their platforms to fair competition. This gives users greater freedom in choosing which browsers and search engines they want to use, and which allows you to be in total control of your browsing experience.
March the 6th marked the deadline for companies to comply with all of the Act’s provisions. From this date onwards, you are free to choose which internet browser and search engine you want to set as your default. Here are 5 things to consider while choosing the best browser for your needs:
When it comes to choosing an internet browser, privacy and security are a key concern. A secure browser will keep your data safely encrypted and allow you to protect your identity, and it will protect you against ill-intended advertisers and malicious software. You should also consider if it complies with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), since that legislation ensures that your data is safe and within Europe.
A survey undertaken by Opera* in the EU revealed that nearly 50% of the respondents prioritize a free VPN, ad blocker, and advanced privacy features. Opera offers innovative browsers for both Android and iOS that feature a set of tools designed to keep you safe while browsing. They include a free, built-in, no-log browser VPN that you can easily enable on the Main Menu Icon. A no-log VPN means that nobody’s keeping tabs on what you do online. Android users can also upgrade to a device-wide version of the VPN that protects up to 6 different Android devices within one subscription.
Additionally, online ads can appear unexpectedly, aggressively track your data, or even be malicious. Although not all of them are bad, and some might be of your interest, we believe that an ad blocker is a must when going online. And those annoying cookie dialogs? They can be gone too, if you want them to be.
With Opera, you get a fully integrated ad blocker and tracker blocker that will ensure a safe and seamless experience on the internet. To activate it, just head to Main Menu Icon > Settings Gear and turn on the ad blocking and tracker blocking features. Make sure to also switch on the cookie dialog blocker that can be found when tapping the ad blocker option. It’s as simple as that!
When choosing a new browser, around 40% of the users listed speed as one of the main reasons to switch, and for good reason: Speed makes the online experience smooth and seamless, as it provides comfort and keeps you engaged.
Opera’s mobile browsers are known for their speed, offering a smooth and efficient browsing experience. They delivers fast loading times and smooth navigation, presenting a compelling choice for users seeking a swift and responsive browsing experience.
Artificial Intelligence is a very powerful tool that has the potential to revolutionize our lives, and the right choice of mobile browser allows you to tap into the power of AI while on the go. Say you are a writer and are feeling stuck – you can use AI to help you brainstorm ideas, develop characters, or learn about the latest technological trends that will inspire your next Sci-Fi novel.
Opera’s browsers for Android and iOS both offer a free, built-in AI called Aria that can serve as your browsing copilot. Aria can assist you in daily tasks such as summarizing documents or boosting your creativity by suggesting ideas. It is also up to date, so you can also use it to stay on top of your interests and get the latest information.
It’s important to feel that you are in control of your own browsing experience. That applies not only to privacy and security, but also to the interface and design of your browser. That’s why being able to customize your browser in a way that best reflects your personality is a key feature that we believe you should consider.
We have developed our mobile browsers in such a way that you can personalize them with various color themes as well as wallpapers, which include community created content. Just go into your browser and tap the Main Menu Icon, go to “appearance” and start expressing yourself. You can also find useful features such as Speed Dials that will allow access to your favorite sites from the main menu, as well as Bookmarks to always keep the important things at hand.
A browser becomes more than just a browser when it makes your life easier, and having one that can sync across devices definitely fits that bill. Being able to transfer content across devices is essential, be it a document, a link, your thoughts, or even just a meme that you want to save for later.
Opera has a feature called Flow, which allows you to have a true cross-platform experience, switching seamlessly from mobile to desktop. Access My Flow on your phone in the main menu, where you’ll find Flow. From there, simply log in with your Opera profile, connect your devices, and enjoy the experience!

Now that you can make a more informed choice about your own online experience, we encourage you to download Opera and benefit from all of its cool features. Download Opera!

Hey Opera fans!
As the dust settles from the whirlwind that was MWC 2024, our minds are still buzzing with the sheer scale of innovation we witnessed. Being at the event was like spending a few days in the future, with so many new technologies that seem straight out of science fiction.
A Glimpse into the Future with AI Technologies
The buzzword this year was unequivocally AI. Everywhere we looked, AI was there, shaping the narrative of tomorrow. From the seamless integration of AI in mobile services – like the groundbreaking partnership between Telefónica and TikTok – to the imaginative AI Pin by Humane – which suggests a future less dependent on our smartphones – AI’s footprint was unmistakable. These advancements aren’t just futuristic; they’re actively reshaping our interaction paradigms with technology. Opera’s own AI, Aria, has made significant strides, seamlessly integrated into the Opera browser to enhance user experiences. Aria assists with smarter searches, streamlined browsing, and personalized content delivery.
The Next Generation of Connectivity
5G was so last year. At the MWC, we heard the first whisperings of 6G and satellite connectivity. Intel’s commitment to merging AI with 5G technology points towards a future where our devices are not just connected but intuitively interwoven with our daily needs. Qualcomm’s new chip, which brings together Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Ultra-Wideband, signifies a leap towards an era of ultra-connectivity, promising an ecosystem where your devices intuitively understand and adapt to your needs.
Empowering Remote Operations
Remote work gets a new dimension with advancements like rSIM, offering resilience against connectivity downtimes. As we lean more towards digital nomadism, innovations ensuring uninterrupted connectivity resonate deeply with our mission to provide a seamless browsing experience, regardless of where you are.
Pioneering New Frontiers
We couldn’t help but be intrigued by the concept of an AI phone showcased by Deutsche Telekom. Imagine a device devoid of apps, where an AI assistant becomes your gateway to digital services – a concept that mirrors our efforts at Opera to streamline your online activities and deliver an intuitive and uncluttered experience.
MWC 2024 was not just a showcase of technological advancements: it was a preview of the world to come – and a world that Opera, with our browser innovations, is actively shaping. As we look to integrate these groundbreaking technologies, our goal remains to enhance your digital life, making it more connected, intuitive, and, above all, human.
As the dust settles and we gear up for what’s next, we at Opera are more excited than ever to bring these innovations to your browsing experience. Stay tuned! And here’s to a future where technology knows no bounds, and neither does your browsing experience.
Until next time, stay innovative, stay inspired, and, as always, stay connected with Opera.
Hey all!
If you’re located in the EU, starting March 6 you will see a ballot screen asking you to choose your default mobile browser on your iOS or Android device. This comes as a result of the European Union’s Digital Markets Act, which requires big tech companies to open their platforms to fair competition.
Not being one of the defaults, we are really excited about this first step towards more choice for smartphone users. We believe that open digital ecosystems are better for businesses, consumers, and society. And as a European-made challenger browser, we relish the opportunity to more fairly compete against the defaults. If you’re one of 83%* of those who are willing to try something new, your time has come!
Despite the fact that many of you are poised to try out a new browser – and that just about everybody agrees on the importance of freedom of choice – about 20% of EU users are unaware that they can change their default browser, and 49% have never done so. Starting today, you’ll have an easier way out of your preinstalled browser, and we’re here to tell you why Opera is a perfect fit for your needs!
Security & privacy
One of the primary concerns of the EU users when considering a browser was security, with 48% prioritizing a free VPN, ad blocking, and advanced privacy features. Our flagship mobile platforms, Opera for Android and Opera for iOS, feature the entire suite: a free VPN, built-in ad and tracker blockers, as well as a pop-up cookie dialogue blocker.
AI one click away
Within the last year AI has become a major theme in consumer tech – a movement in which Opera has been in the vanguard. Called Aria, our browser AI is free and features up-to-date results from around the web. Integrated into the browser, Aria enhances user interaction through intelligent recommendations, voice navigation, and automated browsing tasks, allowing you to boost your creativity and productivity by harnessing the power of AI.
User-friendly experience and speed
Many of you highlighted the importance of speed and user-friendly UI. Both Opera for Android and Opera for iOS are powerful browsers that forefront a user-centric experience, with Opera for iOS having won a Red Dot Award for its stunning user interface. A reimagined main menu puts everything – personal content, preferences, and services – right at your fingertips, so you can quickly and easily jump back into what matters most.
If you’re one of the 91% users in the EU who want more choice and transparency when it comes to selecting a browser, join those who have dared to ditch the default, and install Opera today!

Hi football fans!
After a long summer, the game we all love is back! The first few rounds of the big leagues around Europe – the English Premier League, La Liga, the Bundesliga – have already been played, and Champions League Group Stage action is on the horizon. The season promises plenty of action and drama, and so we hope you are as excited as we are to watch it all play out! To celebrate the return of the sport we love so much, Predictor is back on Opera Mini for our users in Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa – and we have some special prizes ready for you!
The big one is the grand prize of $10,000 up for grabs every round. To win, all you have to do is submit your predictions for that slate of six matches, correctly guessing each scoreline. But just by submitting a prediction you can earn a spin on the Prize Wheel to win instant prizes, from data bundles and cash rewards to brand new mobile phones!
But if you don’t manage to win the grand prize, you can still rack up points for predicting games correctly – at the end of the month, the top predictor will win $1000! (In the event of a tie, the pot will be split among the top predictors.) You’ll be able to view your progress on a monthly leaderboard displayed within Opera Predictor. You can additionally earn some extra bonus points on your march up the table by using a new feature: custom leagues.
The ability to create custom leagues with your friends and family promises to add some extra spice to this year’s action. You’ll not only have a chance to win weekly prizes, but you can compete for some all-important bragging rights! To help you in your pursuit of glory, you can add football experts to your custom league against whom you can pit your wits for additional points. The experts will include some recognizable faces and change throughout the course of the season.
Each match, both you and the expert in your league will predict a scoreline – and you can earn up to 5 extra points per match by besting the expert’s prediction. Say, for example, Arsenal play Manchester United. You predict a 4-1 win for the Gunners, while the expert predicts a 0-1 triumph for the Red Devils. The Londoners run out 3-1 winners, so while you weren’t 100% correct, you’ll still get 5 points for predicting a win when your expert guessed the wrong result.
In another example, both you and the expert might predict a win for Brighton over Spurs – you say 4-1 but the expert says 2-1. The match ends 4-1, so you collect 5 points. If, say, the match ended 3-1, you would earn no points, then – in that case you would both have been correct about the eventual winter, but no one would have accurately guessed the score. You can win points, then, in one of two ways: either guessing the correct match result when the expert is wrong, or guessing the scoreline correctly (even if the expert also predicts the same overall result as you).
Creating a League
So, how can you get started?
Next, select Leagues.
Then, you’ll need to name your League, select if you want expert pundits to be included, and then hit “Create a League.”
Now you’re all set up! Invite your friends by sharing your league’s unique PIN code (or share it via social media) and you are ready to compete!
So what are you waiting for? Win great data, cash, or even mobile phones while closely following all the action, and beating your friends. Download Opera Mini and get Predictor today!

Back at the end of July we kicked off an exciting new contest that offered Brazilian content creators the chance to show off their creativity for the chance to win fabulous prizes. We asked budding TikTokers to encapsulate just why Opera for Android is the browser for people who love to surf the web. Well the results* are in, and we’re thrilled to announce our winners!
To recap, we encouraged up-and-coming influencers to record a video that showcases Opera for Android’s exceptional qualities and post it on TikTok with the hashtag #OperaMeNota. The masterminds behind the top three submissions would receive a brand-new Samsung Galaxy Flip4, while the next seven lucky winners would receive R$ 500 in shopping vouchers.
The ensuing engagement was tremendous, as over 200 videos were submitted by folks from all walks of life: GenZers, Opera for Android-lovers, even grandmothers! We saw everything from memes to highly-produced content from rising stars – an outpouring of creativity in which everyone, in their own unique voice, attested to why Opera for Android is the best browser for them. And people paid attention, too: through the campaign’s hashtag, there were over 20 million views on TikTok in Brazil!
Our top three winners combined fun and creativity to explain why Opera should be your default browser. We were thrilled to have Letícia Marques (@penseialtotv) participate in Me Nota, posting a video about Opera for Android and its features – such as the built-in ad blocker or our newly-integrated browser AI, Aria – that garnered over 50,000 views. Pedro Estima (@estima.tech) extolled, in particular, the platform’s free and VPN Pro options, while Anderson (@ander_g__) brought the storytelling home by cleverly dubbing over that infamous scene in The Joker.
So congratulations to all our winners! Make sure to follow opera.brasil, as more exciting content, updates, and chances to win will be coming your way!
*All submissions were evaluated on the following criteria: level of creativity; adherence to the theme (of Opera for Android and its fantastic attributes); and engagement (i.e., number of interactions with the video).
Hey everyone,
A fresh update has arrived for Opera for Android – Opera 77. In this version, we’re rolling out several exciting additions, in particular a new browser theme inspired by Opera One – which was previously launched on Opera for desktop – complete with new wallpapers and browser highlights. We’ve also included features like Search in History and Offline Pages, along with a revamped search design. For our users in France, we’re introducing Qwant search integration. So let’s delve right in and explore!
New Opera One inspired theme
In June, we unveiled Opera One – a fully revamped browsing experience for Opera’s flagship desktop browser. Among the new features we unveiled our innovative native browser AI, Aria. Accompanying this launch we unrolled fresh brand colors, which – now that you can use Aria on your Android device as well – we’re extending to Opera for Android. Within the settings, you can opt for the new dark and light themes, or select from new wallpapers that incorporate the vivid Opera One design theme into your browsing experience.
All about Searches
Following the introduction of Aria to Opera’s mobile browsers on both Android and iOS, Opera proudly achieved the distinction of being the first major browser to feature browser AI across all platforms.
If you haven’t had the chance to try it yet, you can now install the Opera for Android search widget, granting you instant access to Aria. The widget will allow you to seamlessly interact with the browser AI and ask any questions that come to mind.
We’ve all faced those moments when recalling the exact website we recently visited seems challenging. The introduction of the new search functionality within history and offline pages makes this process easier. Just type the first letter and relevant search results will promptly appear.
Furthermore, upon launching the browser, you might notice the updated search bar design on your homepage.
If you don’t have Opera for Android yet, download it right here. Enjoy Opera for Android 77!
As a marketer you’re constantly on the hunt for fresh ideas, catchy headlines, engaging social media posts, and informative blog content.
That’s where Aria, Opera’s browser AI, steps up to the plate, ready to be your indispensable partner in content marketing. Aria can help spark innovative content ideas, lend a hand in writing attention-grabbing social media posts, and even whip up full blog posts.
In this article we’ll unpack all the ways you can harness Aria to enhance your content marketing strategy. Whether you’re at your desktop or on the go, Opera’s Aria always has you covered.
Read along to learn how Aria can help you:
Generate content ideasComing up with a constant stream of unique, engaging content ideas can be challenging. Aria, with its vast database and powerful language model, can be an invaluable brainstorming partner.
Simply tell Aria what you need: “Aria, I need blog post ideas about sustainable living for a millennial audience.” Or, “Generate podcast topic ideas that explore the intersection of technology and mental health.” Within seconds, Aria will provide a list of fresh, targeted content ideas tailored to your audience’s interests and current trends.
Brainstorm titles and headingsWhen it comes to attracting an audience and boosting engagement, the power of a compelling title or headline cannot be overstated. Aria can be an excellent resource in this crucial aspect of content creation.
For blog posts or articles, you can provide Aria with the topic and desired tone, and ask it to generate a list of potential titles. For instance: “Aria, could you suggest some engaging titles for a blog post about remote work productivity? The tone should be professional yet friendly.”
Or, say you’re working on a presentation or report – Aria can help you craft compelling headings and subheadings. You could say, “Aria, I’m preparing a presentation on sustainable business practices. Can you suggest some intriguing section headings?”
The key to getting the most out of Aria is providing specific context and as much detail as possible. If you have a particular style, audience, or SEO keyword in mind, be sure to let Aria know.
Conduct market research In the fast-paced world of content marketing, keeping a finger on the pulse of industry trends, competitor activities, and market developments is crucial. This is where Aria, with its ability to sift through a vast array of up-to-date data, can significantly streamline your market research process.
To conduct market research, you could ask Aria, “Can you summarize the recent digital marketing trends?” or “What are the new changes in content marketing post-COVID?” Aria can provide you with a comprehensive and up-to-date overview, allowing you to create content that aligns with the current industry landscape.
But Aria’s assistance isn’t limited to tracking trends. It can also help you understand your competition better. With prompts like, “Provide a competitor analysis of the top AI companies,” or “What are the recent product releases by our competitors in the SaaS industry?” Aria can also equip you with valuable insights into what your rivals are up to.
Draft social media postsIn the world of digital marketing, social media remains king. But with so many platforms and audiences, creating fresh, engaging posts day in and day out can be a daunting task. This is where Aria comes along to alleviate some of that burden.
Whether you’re promoting a product, sharing news, or simply engaging with your audience, Aria’s got you covered. All you need to do is specify your requirement.
For instance, you could say, “Aria, draft an Instagram caption promoting our summer collection,” or “Help me craft a Facebook post to announce our upcoming webinar on sustainable fashion.”
But don’t just stop at posts. Need catchy hashtags? Tell Aria, “Come up with some trendy hashtags for our eco-friendly campaign.” Want to share a thought-provoking quote? Ask, “Aria, provide a quote about the importance of sustainability in today’s world.”
Always remember to provide Aria with context about your brand’s voice and the platform’s nuances. For instance, if your brand uses a casual and humorous tone, be sure to mention it. This way, the content Aria generates aligns seamlessly with your branding.
Create full blog postsWe’ve all faced writer’s block at one point or another, staring at that dreaded blinking cursor on a blank page. But with Aria by your side, those days can be fewer and farther between. Aria can assist in creating entire blog articles, from introduction to conclusion.
To begin, provide Aria with a clear prompt. For instance, “Aria, write an introductory paragraph about the benefits of sustainable fashion.” Or, if you’re looking to delve into a technical topic, you could say, “I need a comprehensive article discussing the advances in solar technology in the last decade.”
Throughout the writing process you can guide Aria by asking it to expand on certain points, provide examples, or even source citations. If at any point you feel the content is veering off-track, simply provide feedback and guide Aria back to the desired path.
And if you’re only looking for a structure, Aria can draft an outline for you. Just ask, “Aria, provide an outline for a blog post about the advantages of remote work.” With that, you’ll have a roadmap to guide your writing.
Whether you’re using Aria to draft entire articles or just sections of it, always remember to review and add your personal touch. Aria provides the structure and information, but your unique voice and perspective make the content truly yours.
Frequently asked questions 1. Can Aria write content in different languages?

Hey Opera users!
Today we unveil Aria, our new browser AI. With Aria, you’re getting access to a leading generative AI service for free. Natively built into the browser, Aria marks the beginning of a new kind of browsing experience.
Aria allows you to enhance your creativity and productivity by harnessing the power of AI. Based on our own “Composer” infrastructure, Aria connects to OpenAI’s GPT technology and is enhanced by additional capabilities such as adding live results from the web. Aria is both a web and a browser expert that allows you to collaborate with AI while looking for information on the web, generating text or code, or getting your product queries answered. For example, when it comes to customer support, Aria is knowledgeable about our whole database of support documentation and can use the company’s current product knowledge to answer your questions. Opera’s Composer infrastructure is also easily expandable. Composer allows Aria to connect to several AI models, and will in the future expand by integrating additional capabilities such as search services from multiple Opera partners. All of this will be unified into an innovative and coherent user experience.
Opera’s browser AI strategy
Aria marks the next step in our plans to integrate generative AI services in our browsers, and is a result of our collaboration with OpenAI. Earlier this year, we introduced a first implementation of ChatGPT in the sidebar of our desktop browser, along with the AI Prompts feature. We also unveiled Opera One, a redesigned version of our flagship browser, suited to accommodate more generative-AI features through its modular design. We’re now forging ahead by introducing a browser AI that will allow you to interact with the web aided by AI directly in the browser. Aria’s current form of a chat interface that communicates directly with you, the user, marks the first stage of the project. The AI-based service is set to become even more integrated into Opera in the coming versions of the browser, with the ultimate aim of being natively blended into the browser to help you perform cross-browser tasks.
Getting started
Aria is a free service with up-to-date information – which means it’s connected to the internet and not limited to content prior to 2021 – making it a more advanced offering than standard GPT-based solutions. It is shipping in more than 180 countries including the EU.
If you’re an Opera user on desktop, you can test Aria by downloading the newest version of Opera One (developer version). As an Android user, you can now test Aria in the latest beta version of the browser, downloadable in the Google Play Store. As a tester, the only thing you need to do in order to access Aria is to create an Opera account, if you do not already have one. Once done, you’ll be notified via email or inside of the product about your whitelisting status. Once your Opera Account is whitelisted, you can access the Aria through the settings of Opera for Android beta or through the browser sidebar of Opera One.

Hey readers!
We’re excited to announce a big milestone today: Opera Mini’s Live Scores feature has surpassed 50 million monthly active users worldwide! The football scoreboard we embedded into our acclaimed mobile browser just some months ago has been massively popular already, and show just how committed we are to providing seamless access to what you, our users, are passionate about.
We initially launched Live Scores as a part of our celebration of the 2022 World Cup, along with the Shake and Win campaign that had Opera fans in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa shaking their phones to win $300,000 in prizes. The competition was a big hit, as Opera Mini rocketed to number 1 in the Google Play Store in Kenya and Nigeria and over 200,000 prizes were distributed.
With football making the headlines, we took the opportunity to roll out Live Scores. We know that mobile data in especially sub-Saharan Africa is among the most expensive in the world, so we developed an in-app solution: a native scoreboard that allows you to stay on top of the action without having to jump to another platform. That way, you can follow the day’s matches and football scores from right inside the fastest and most data-friendly mobile browser available – especially if Opera Mini is your default mobile browser, and you’re therefore rewarded with 50MB of free data every day!
Live Scores has grown exponentially since our launch in November, surpassing 50 million monthly users by March. Not content with that, we’ve gone and delivered a major update for the feature in Opera Mini!
With the latest update to Live Scores, you can now customize your football experience by following over 8,000 teams from around the world, including all the big leagues and competitions like the Premier League, La Liga, and the Champions League. A new Match List page allows Opera Mini you to track multiple matches across numerous leagues worldwide, with a summary of kick-off times, information about line-ups, match statistics, running commentary, and of course, live scores.
The Live Scores update finally features Live Match Alerts, in which you can receive notifications for all matches involving their favorite teams. Whether it’s a local derby or a continental tournament, notifications roll in for kickoff times, goals, red cards, penalties, and the full-time result.
To reboot the way you stay tuned into football, download Opera Mini for free from the Google Play Store. The original Live Scores feature is now also for Opera for Android and iOS users.
Hey readers!
We’re thrilled to announce the extension of our free VPN service to Opera Browser for iOS. With the latest addition, Opera has become the first web browser to offer a free, built-in VPN across all major platforms: Mac, Windows, Linux, Android, and now iOS – so no matter what you’re using, we’ve got you covered. Now available in early access, the VPN’s full rollout will be coming in the next few weeks.
We know that doing, well, almost anything online has become increasingly risky in recent times. Whether you’re at home or logged into a public network, your web traffic and browsing history is accessible, and vulnerable. Hackers and data thieves can intercept your sensitive information – including passwords, credit card numbers, and personal details – as it travels through unsecured networks or while stored on your device. Even your own Internet Service Provider (ISP) can track and monitor your online activity, compromising your privacy.
That’s why VPNs have become such an essential feature of life online – they keep your identity secure and your activity private, so you can peruse the web safely, with your personal information safe from prying eyes.
But Opera is here to save the day, as the first browser company out there to offer a built-in VPN, free, on every platform. It could hardly be simpler, too: you don’t need a subscription, you don’t have to log in, and there are no additional extensions. All you need to do is just to hit a switch in the main menu to browse in peace, since the Opera browser makes sure that VPN traffic is encrypted and your IP address is private.
It’s also a no-log service, which means we don’t collect any personal data or information related to your browsing history or originating network address. Your anonymity ensured, you have safe and speedy access to virtual locations around the world.
So now, that indispensable feature comes to Opera Browser for iOS, our award-winning browser that is enjoyed by millions worldwide. It’s aesthetically beautiful, featuring a stunning interface that has chalked up multiple design awards. Additionally, it offers an unparalleled user experience particularly for active people who are always on the go. The Fast Action Button, for example, puts all the navigation tools you need right within a thumb’s reach. You can also keep photos, articles, recipes, travel ideas, and links with you at all times with My Flow, which allows for seamless and secure file sharing between phones, tablets, and computers. And if you’re a fan of cryptocurrency or NFTs, a native Crypto Wallet lets you keep track of your digital assets at all times.
So it has plenty of bells and whistles, but at its core, the Opera Browser for iOS offers unparalleled speed and security. It features, for example, a built-in ad blocker – speeding up the loading process as well as shielding users from unwanted advertisements – as well as the Apple Intelligent Tracking Prevention, which blocks third party tracking cookies and cookie dialogue. Furthermore, the browser additionally features Opera’s Cryptojacking Protection, which will keep you safe from having your device’s resources hijacked for crypto mining. The free VPN service will now complete the package, affording you peace of mind as you surf the internet.
But come on – who doesn’t love bells and whistles?! So we have two more updates for you that will make Opera for iOS even better. First, a Bookmarks feature will allow you to better organize your life online; coupled with Speed Dial you’ll have immediate access to what matters most to you. And if that’s football, then even better news! A new Live Scores feature is set to land on the browser’s homepage. A scoreboard will display the day’s matches – whether they are upcoming, in progress, or the final whistle has already gone – so Live Scores will help make sure that you’re always on top of all the action, worldwide.
To start using the free VPN, download Opera Browser for iOS and turn the VPN on in the app. The full rollout will be completed within the coming weeks, so if the VPN isn’t available for you yet, it will be soon. More information is available on the official website.
Hey there!
Are you a football fan?
Do you find it hard to keep track of all the latest scores from your favorite teams and the big matches?
Well, we’ve got some exciting news for you! Opera is taking your football experience to the next level with the all-newLive Scores 2.0 feature in the Opera Mini Browser.
During the World Cup, Opera introduced Live Scores to Opera Mini, which saw a scoreboard installed right on the Opera Mini homepage so that fans did not have to jump to different sites – and thereby expend additional data – to stay updated.
Now no longer just a scoreboard, Live Scores 2.0 will provide a suite of features that will enable you to have the world of football at your fingertips, right from within Opera Mini.
So what’s new?
Well, with Live Scores 2.0 you can now customize your football experience by following over 8,000 teams from around the world, including all the big leagues and competitions like the Premier League and Champions League.
The new Match List page lets you keep track of multiple matches across numerous leagues worldwide, with a summary of kick-off times and live scores. And when you want to know more about a particular match, you can click to get a detailed picture of all the action. From line-ups to match statistics and running commentary, we’ve got you covered.
But that’s not all!
Through the Live Match Alerts feature, you’ll receive notifications for all matches involving your favorite teams. Whether it’s a local derby or a continental tournament, you won’t miss a beat with alerts for kickoff times, goals, red cards, penalties, and the full-time result.
We’re passionate about football at Opera and are always aiming to deliver the best possible experience. Join us now and download Opera Mini for free from the Google Play Store. Let’s kick off the fun together with a one-stop football experience!
Hey Opera fans!
We at Opera love our flagship mobile browser Opera for Android – so much that we’re constantly trying to make it even better!
In our quest to ensure the best updates and most innovative features, we’ve recently updated Opera for Android to version 73. The new features have already launched for some users – with full availability for all coming soon – so let’s walk you through them so you don’t miss anything!
Search bar at the bottom of your browser
You’re browsing the web, but you only have one hand free. Suddenly a new search query or URL pops into your head, and you need to type it in – but you can’t! That pesky search bar is all the way at the top of your phone, and your thumb strains in vain to reach it.
We’ve probably all been there at some point or other, but with OFA 73 that frustration will be a thing of the past! The newest version will feature a search bar at the bottom of your browser, within easy reach no matter how many hands you have free.
Accountless VPN Pro
Previously, when you logged into our VPN Pro service some account information was required. Now we’ve made another user-friendly tweak: when you choose your subscription, there’s no need to enter any log-in credentials. Designed to get you browsing safely even faster, the update means you’re only ever a click away from enhanced internet privacy and security with VPN Pro.
If you want the best possible browsing experience, don’t settle for pre-installed browsers – choose a personal touch.
Enjoy your smooth browsing experience with Opera for Android 73.

Opera Mini – the data-saving browser that already boasts over 100 million users across Africa – became the number one downloaded app over the weekend in Nigeria and Kenya thanks to the tremendous success of Opera’s “Shake and Win” campaign across the continent.
Dedicated to football’s greatest celebration, the World Cup, “Shake and Win” offered Opera fans the chance to win over $300,000 in prizes. Users needed only to shake their phone to potentially win airtime from popular providers, cash prizes, or brand-new phones.

More than 200,000 prizes have been won, with many grateful users taking to social media to comment on how much fun they’ve had with “Shake and Win.”
Users in Nigeria and Kenya were especially caught up in the spirit of the fun. New users downloaded Opera Mini so much that it has reached number one in the Google Play Store in both countries.
Opera Mini is a unique, data-saving browser built with the needs of Africans in mind. In recognition of the extremely high data costs on the continent, it allows users to save up to 90% of their data. Moreover, Opera always adds new features to the browser to craft the best online experience possible: there’s an integrated messenger, regular campaigns offering free data, and now live scores of football games and news about the latest matches, to name just a few.
“The ‘Shake and Win’ campaign was a huge success, and we’ve been honored to share the overwhelming emotions of the World Cup with our users. Football fans across Africa should continue to keep their eyes on Opera Mini, since we plan to continue bringing amazing user experiences to football fans there, especially with the return of the Premier League just around the corner,” said Jørgen Arnesen, EVP Mobile at Opera.
Opera Mini is an important component of Opera’s Africa First strategy. Announced in December 2017, the company has pledged to develop mobile products and services tailored first and foremost to the needs of the African consumer. We’ll keep the ball rolling in 2023 as we continue to introduce updates and products that are fast, efficient, and focused on our users.

The Opera browser also makes surfing the web on Chromebooks more colorful with a set of five color themes available in both light and dark mode.
If you’re a binge-watcher, late-night reader, or workaholic, you’ll be happy to discover that Opera is also eye-friendly. The special night mode available in the Chromebook browser protects you from the blue light glare that disrupts sleep patterns, as well as saves anyone next to you from unnecessarily disturbing light.
Laptop experience To make browsing on Chromebooks as easy, fast and lightweight as possible, Opera for Chromebook was built based on the Opera Browser for Android with custom optimizations that deliver a full-fledged laptop experience while maintaining all of its unique features.
You can keep using mouse and keyboard, as well as useful keyboard shortcuts such as Ctrl +T for opening a new tab and Ctrl + L for focusing the address bar. Opera for Chromebook can also be seamlessly synchronized with other Opera browsers: Chromebook, desktop computer, Android or iOS phone – we don’t discriminate.
You can sync them using the Flow feature by simply scanning a QR code and thus establishing a “Flow,” your own personal, end-to-end encrypted chat with yourself. With Flow, you can share notes, images, files and links, and access them immediately on any of your devices with Opera.
The browser of choice for millions of people This release completes the Opera ecosystem, making Opera available on all major operating systems: Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS and now Chrome OS. The Opera browser is the browser of choice for millions of people worldwide.
Try Opera on your Chromebook right away!
We hope you enjoy this new release. Until next time, happy browsing!
Get ready gamers,
No longer is Opera GX a lone wolf, as it is now perfectly paired with its own mobile companion. Opera GX, the world’s first mobile browser designed for gamers, is finally here with lots of features that you already know from the Opera GX desktop browser (on both Windows and macOS), as well as a few of its own tricks – custom skins, built-in ad blocker, ergonomic navigation with haptic feedback, and gaming news & deals, for a start.
Officially released today on Android and iOS That’s right! Today (June 15th), on the final day of E3, we are officially launching Opera GX for mobile. This is great news for all of you who already use Opera GX, along with those who want to bring their gaming style to mobile when they’re on the move.
Why today? We first launched the desktop version of Opera GX during E3 2019. This year, with the event coming back, we have some good news for everyone who wants their smartphone browsing experience to match their gaming tastes. With Opera GX mobile, we are making sure that you have a browser that offers you a superior web experience and lets you follow the latest news about your favorite games on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch and every other platform you enjoy.
Bridging the gap between desktop and mobile browsers So, back to the features and assets of Opera GX mobile. Aside from just looking fabulous with its gaming-inspired design, variety of different color themes, and both dark and light modes, GX mobile has got some incredibly useful tools built-in and good to go.
First, imagine smoothly browsing one-handed with the Fast Action Button (FAB). With one thumb and haptic feedback, you just slide your thumb between icons around a central hub. It’s quick, smooth and intuitive – perfect for browsing on the go.
But we’re not always on the go, and we often jump between our desktop and mobile browsers. Enter the Flow feature in Opera GX mobile. Pop open a QR code in your desktop GX browser and scan it with GX mobile. That’s it! Now you can send files, links, pictures, notes, tutorials, walkthroughs – just about anything you want – between your browsers.
Then there’s GX Corner – a unique space on the GX’s home screen with the latest news about desktop, console and mobile games, plus deals, trailers and a game release calendar. It’s a one-stop spot on your homescreen for staying up to date with the world of gaming.
Ready to get your hands on it? Wait no more, it’s all yours! Opera GX is freely available on Android and iOS: Android buffs click here and proud iPhone holders click here.
Hi everyone,
Starting today, Opera Touch becomes Opera Browser for iOS.
Now more than ever, people need a unified browsing experience that logically connects all their platforms – iOS, Android, PCs and laptops. Opera does exactly that, providing iOS users with a faster, safer and more integrated browsing experience on all devices.
At Opera, we know that browsers are very personal apps as we use them to search for private information, manage passwords, and access banking information, among other things. On top of this, browsers need to have a sense of rightness, as in, does this browser look right, feel right, and work right in the contexts that we use it. We call this the personal browser experience, and that is what Opera is all about.
The award-winning browser of choice for nearly three million MAU’s Nearly three years ago, we launched Opera Touch on iOS. Our initial goal was to deliver a fast and great-looking browser that could facilitate browsing navigation, particularly smartphones with large displays. We solved that issue by introducing a fast action button that made it easier to switch between tabs and close them in one swipe, making the browsing experience possible with one hand.
As we made more progress in the development of Opera Touch, we also worked a lot with the design of the browser’s UI to make its aesthetics both beautiful and impactful. This process led to Opera Touch winning the prestigious Red Dot Design Award 2018, and the iF design award 2019.
Today, nearly three million monthly active users worldwide enjoy a fast and secure browsing experience with Opera Touch on mobile platforms. They chose Opera because it’s different from the default browsers that come pre-installed on their mobile devices and because of its features and capabilities that they can’t find anywhere else. These include an easy-to-use Crypto Wallet, Flow, Ad-blocker, Cookie dialogue blocker, and protection against cryptocurrency mining.
*Opera Touch on iOS is now Opera* Browser We’re coming up on the third anniversary of Opera Touch, making it the perfect time to push for better browser integration with other devices. Starting today, you will begin to see Opera Touch referred to as OperaBrowser for iOS, and a few other visual changes.
The most noticeable changes will be in the revamped UI aspects of the browser, like new colours being introduced. If you use Opera on your iOS device, you will also notice the purple logo on the home screen changing to red. Other visual changes will be happening in the background animations of the main UI as we introduce a cleaner and smoother design for a more refined look and feel.
Rest assured though, that none of the changes will affect your favourite features and functionality. The browser is keeping its iconic and popular speed dial bubbles on the main screen, for example. These speed dials, inspired by our concept browser Opera Neon, show your most visited websites so you always have them easily accessible.
The fast action button is also staying in its usual position at the bottom-center of your screen, so you can keep browsing with one hand when you’re on the move.
Connect with Opera on any platform Connecting Opera for iOS to your computer is easy. Just start Opera on your computer and click the Flow icon on the sidebar. A QR code will appear, which you scan with Opera on your iOS device. That’s it, Flow links your computer and your mobile device so you can share links, notes, images, files and other information seamlessly.
Opera for computers is available on Windows, Mac, and Linux. The app is available for download in the App Store.
We hope you enjoy the new look and feel of Opera on your iOS device.
Happy browsing!
Hello everyone,
Today, we are introducing Hype, our new dedicated chat service built into the stable version of the Opera Mini browser in Kenya. With this integration, Opera Mini becomes the first major browser in the world to integrate a social component that keeps you connected to the ones that matter the most for you. This means you can now browse the web, chat with your friends, and share fun images, stickers and links with other Hype users, all in one app.
We built Hype because younger generations of internet users are expecting more social connectivity from the apps they use on their devices. By integrating a chat service into the Opera Mini browser, we are elevating the traditional browsing experience of users and make it more fun, more engaging, and more relevant. This unique and innovative blend is something that no other mobile browser in the Google Play Store offers.
Initial rollout starts today in Kenya, with more countries to come! Kenya is the first country to adopt Hype, before anyone else in the world. First and foremost, we are rolling out Hype in Kenya because we love our Kenyan users!
Last year, we announced the opening of our data centers in Mombasa, providing the fastest and most reliable connection today. We also announced our partnership with Safaricom and Airtel, with which we connect millions of Kenyans to the internet everyday, with free browsing when using Opera Mini on the Safaricom and Airtel network.
We’re beginning the rollout in Kenya because Hype is the chat service the next generations of African internet users are expecting. The most recent population census in Kenya reported that 75% of the Kenyan population is under the age of 30, with children and adolescents representing 63% of the total population. In addition, 40% of the Kenyan population owns a smartphone today.
These demographics represent a very positive forecast, and give us hope of seeing rapid and quick adoption of Hype among young Kenyan mobile users.
If you’re reading this post from any other country in the world, stay tuned to our blogs and news to find out when Hype is coming to your country.
Connecting with your friends through your mobile browser Once you have completed the update to the latest version of Opera Mini, or have downloaded the app from Google Play, you can start enjoying Hype in your browser.
What’s nice is that the Hype account is really easy to set up. Just tap the Hype logo on the bottom of the Opera Mini browser, or in the O menu. Then choose your name and add a profile photo that will be visible to Hype users.
After that, simply sync Hype with your phone list and start chatting with secure end-to-end encryption.
Create your own stickers with WebSnap Memes and stickers are part of everyday communication for the new generation of internet users. To make it easy for you to create your own stickers and memes, we have introduced a very unique feature into Hype called WebSnap.
WebSnap allows you to take snapshots from the web, which you can then personalize with a set of editing tools. You can add new colours, text and emojis, making every snap more fun and entertaining before sharing it with others.
WebSnap also allows you to smoothly share the link of the original website from which you took your snap. This comes in handy as you no longer need to copy links from websites and switch between apps to share the content that you want.
You can also create your own stickers by downloading images from the web directly to the Opera Mini browser. Once you have the image of your choice, go to My Stickers in Hype, tap on the + icon, and add or take a photo to create your own stickers. We have our favourite personal collection of stickers with Leonardo DiCaprio.
African inspired chat service We confidently say that Hype is a truly African inspired chat service. This is because Opera collaborated with Kenyan artists Brian Omolo and Lulu Kitololo to create original sticker packs for Hype that reflect everyday expressions unique to Kenyans.
We are thrilled with the collaboration and the end result, which makes online chatting with Hype more fun, local, and engaging. This also makes Opera the first major mobile browser company to integrate real African art and pop culture into its products.
Taking personal browsing to a whole new level Mobile browsers are a gateway to information and entertaining content wherever we go. However, mobile browsers must be more innovative, especially now with younger generations expecting more social connectivity from the apps they regularly use. This is why we have created Hype, because we want to transform the traditional browsing experience of the new generation of internet users in Sub-Saharan Africa, and connect them with the ones that matter the most to them, all in one app.
If you already are an Opera Mini user, check for updates in your browser’s settings. Once you update Opera Mini, you will see the green Hype logo at the bottom of the browser. If you are not yet an Opera Mini user, tap here to download the newest version of the app with Hype.
Remember to follow Hype dedicated Instagram page here!
Happy browsing, and happy chatting.
