Faith that can not be tested - is no faith. What is the secret of faith that prevails? Will your faith stand the test?
We will continue looking at Jesus' parables as we study from Matthew chapter 13. The parables use examples that were common to the Jewish people to teach important truths about the kingdom of heaven. The parable of the wheat and the tares as well as the parable of the mustard seed have to do with Satan's attack on the church. We can gain important spiritual insight from these stories included in God's Word.
This Sunday we will continue our look at “The Parable of the Sower.” We will be looking at the remaining three “soils.” I believe the Lord has a challenging message for us in this parable. I believe the Lord is laying out for us the vision He has for Calvary Chapel Truckee. My prayer is that we will answer the call.
We will be looking at the “Kingdom Parables” found in Matthew 13 over the next few weeks. The Lord has much to say to us as a church and as committed followers of Jesus Christ. I’m looking forward to hearing from the Lord and seeing His Word applied to our hearts, individually and as a church.
This is our last Bible study in the Book of Genesis. It has been such a wonderful study and tonight it will bless us again as we look at Genesis 50. I know you’re not going to want to miss what the Lord has for us as He encourages us to have complete and total faith in what He is doing in our lives from this marvelous chapter.
Paul writes to the church in Rome and says, Jesus was “...declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.” (Romans 1:4) And His righteousness “...shall be imputed to us who believe in Him who raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead…” (Romans 4:24)
What glorious news it is to know that our sins are forgiven us and Christ’s righteousness is ours as we place our faith in Him. PRAISE THE LORD! All of it made possible through His death, burial and resurrection.
Tonight we continue with the book of Genesis. We are closing in on the end of the book. Can you believe all that we have been seeing in this section as we have been looking at Jospeh's life as a type of picture of Jesus the Messiah? Tonight we come to the end of Jacob’s life and his prophetic blessings in regards to his sons. I think you will be surprised at what the Lord has for us tonight.
We continue our study through the Gospel of Matthew on Sunday mornings. I am always amazed at where the Lord has us in the study of His Word, in relationship to the events of our lives. This Sunday, Palm Sunday, we will be looking at Matthew 12:38-45. The scribes and the Pharisees come to Jesus asking Him for a sign. His reply is that the only sign that will be given them is His resurrection. I think it is perfect timing as we enter the “Passion Week.”
Tonight we will be studying through Genesis 47. Jacob is reunited with Joseph and Pharaoh invites Jacob and his family to settle in the best of the land. It reminds us of how God wants the best for each of us. He has a plan for our lives that cannot be improved upon. All we need to do is to surrender to Him and allow Him to bring His plan to bear in our lives.
Thursday night we will continue in the study of Genesis 45. Joseph reveals himself to his brothers after they pass his final test. God is so good. His Word always comes about. Why do we ever worry and fret when we have a God like the One True and Living God?
This Sunday we will continue our study through the Gospel of Matthew. We will be looking at the account of Jesus healing a man with a withered hand on the Sabbath.
I love what Jesus said to the religious leaders. "Then He said to them, 'What man is there among you who has one sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not lay hold of it and lift it out? Of how much more value then is a man than a sheep?' " Matthew 12:11-13
"Of how much more value then is a man than a sheep?” These words of Jesus bring such comfort to my heart. To know that we are, that you are, that I am valuable in His eyes. What a blessing it is! So many people go through life feeling unloved, of no value, forgotten by God. It’s not true and Jesus tells us it’s not true. Each of us, individually, are very valuable to God.
Tonight we will continue our study through the Book of Genesis. We have been looking at Jospeh put his brothers through their paces in order to see if there is any change in them. We see in Genesis 44 that Jospeh has one last test for them. Will they pass? Spoiler alert … They pass with flying colors.
Not only do they pass, but we see one of the most beautiful intercessions found in the Bible, a beautiful picture of our Savior.
Looking at Matthew 12:1-8, we see the rebellion against the King getting more and more fierce. In our verses we see the religious leaders in conflict with Jesus again. Jesus declares to the religious leaders that God is more interested in the heart than empty outward observances. Jesus boldly stated to them that He, not the Pharisees, was the Lord of the Sabbath. This was another way of claiming to be God since God had ordained the Sabbath.
Continuing our study in the book of Genesis. We are in chapter 43. Jospeh’s brothers return to Egypt with their brother Benjamin. Jacob consents to allowing Benjamin to go, but he is afraid. It’s amazing to see this man of faith that is written about in Hebrews 11 is a man of like nature as we are.
The verses we will be looking at are some of the most wonderful among the revelation of Jesus, our great God and Savior. "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30.
These verses happen to be the only autobiography of our Lord. It just blesses my heart to hear His description of Himself. So loving and welcoming.
It doesn’t matter where you are in your walk, whether you are struggling or charging for Jesus, these verses are directed to you from Jesus. Make plans to come and worship our Lord in song and in the study of the Word. Be part of building up the body through fellowship. Come with an expectation of hearing from the Lord and with eyes to see how God will use you to refresh a brother or sister in the Lord.
Jospeh has been raised up to be the second most powerful man in the world to preserve the bloodline of the Messiah. The seven years of plenty are over and now the famine is in full swing. People from all over are coming to Egypt for grain.
One day, out of the blue, Joseph's brothers come to him, but they don’t recognize Joseph and they bow down to him, just as the Lord had showed him. God’s promises and dreams that He has given us will come to pass.
Joseph, seeking to see if his brothers have changed, puts them to the test and accuses them of being spies.
This amazing story of forgiveness and changed hearts starts here and takes off. It’s one of the most exciting stories in the Bible and we get to have a front row seat to witness the sovereign hand of God over the course of life and history.
This Sunday we will be looking at Matthew 11:20-27. In it we will see Jesus’s heart in giving the weary an invitation to come to Him, to learn of Him. That is exactly what we want to do.
Pastor Gary continues to teach through the life of Joseph in Genesis 41. Last week we saw how Joseph is a type of Christ. The details of his life pointed forward in an amazing way to Christ our Savior. We will continue that study as we look at our chapter tonight. If you have never seen the pictures of Jesus in the life of Joseph, then you want to make sure you join us tonight.
Jesus addresses the crowds of people and declares that John the Baptist was the greatest man born of women. John was the fulfillment of Malachi’s prophecy which was given 400 years previously. Jesus encourages us, as great as John was, the least of the kingdom of heaven will be greater than John. How sweet will heaven be? I can’t wait!
This Sunday we will be looking at some of the most startling and sobering words of Jesus we find in Matthew’s Gospel.
“And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.” Mat 10:38-39.
Jesus is saying that a true follower of His needs to be willing, not only to be associated with the shame and humiliation as a criminal carrying his own cross to his own crucifixion, but they must also willing to loose one's life for the sake of Christ. It is something that many Christians overlook. We share in Christ’s shame and humiliation. We share in Christ’s death and resurrection. And as we do this, He promises that we will also share in His glory.
This Sunday we will start to look at Matthew 11 and see how Jesus answered the doubts of John the Baptist. Like John, all of us struggle with questions and doubts. Seeing how Jesus lovingly and graciously answered the questions raised by John can be a great encouragement to us when we face a crisis of faith.
After a break in the narrative of Joseph’s life, we pick up the story of Joseph as a slave in Potiphar’s house. We will look at the blessings of the Lord on Jospeh’s life and how he handled great temptation to turn from the Lord and satisfy his own flesh.
Jospeh stands firm and displays his godly character. From a worldly perspective, it would appear like things are getting worse for Joseph as a result. But what the enemy intends for evil, God uses for the good.

Genesis 38 is an interesting chapter, if for no other reason than it is a short break from the story of Joseph and his time in Egypt. It is also another sordid chapter in the life of one of the sons of Jacob, Judah specifically. But at the same time we see Tamar, who actually winds up in the linage of the Messiah. Only God could turn a dark chapter into something wonderful and amazing.
We will continue to look at the commissioning of the 12. There are important instructions and lessons there for us to glean as we seek to walk with the Lord and be fruitful in the ministries that He has given to us.
This is an exciting turning point in the Book of Genesis. It covers the linage of Esau and we will learn how and why Jacob and his sons wound up in Egypt. We will see the reasons are very gracious, as God’s reasons always are for doing what He does in our lives.
Tonight, we return to our verse by verse study through the Book of Genesis. We are in Genesis 35. It is an unusual chapter for many reasons. One reason is we see four burials and three deaths.
What does a healthy church look like? The church is God's hands and feet reaching out to the world. Each part fits perfectly to fulfill His purpose in the whole body. What part do you fill? Is your part missing?
As we continue in the Gospel of Matthew we move into chapter 10. This Sunday we will study through Jesus' call of the twelve to Himself, commissioning them and sending them out to share the gospel.
Pastor Gary continues with our verse by verse study through the Book of Genesis. We will be in Genesis 34, looking at the consequences of Jacob’s disobedience. He stopped short of what God had called him to do. Partial obedience is total disobedience. Jacob and his family pays a great price for not following through with what God had called him to do. 1 Cor 10:11 says, “…all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.” We can learn from these examples from Jacob’s life.
Tonight Pastor Gary continues our study through the book of Genesis. The last time Esau saw Jacob he swore that he would kill him. Last week we saw Esau coming out to meet Jacob with 400 men. It could only mean one thing, so Jacob prays, but then takes matters into his own hands - typical Jacob. Tonight we will look at Genesis 33 and see what happens. Esau’s heart is changed and we’ll take a look at how that happened.
Genesis 28 is a pivotal chapter in Jacob’s life. While headed down to Padam Aram, Jacob falls asleep and sees a vision of a ladder ascending to Heaven with angels ascending and descending on it. It’s such an important chapter, you’re not going to want to miss it.
Please join us as we see Abraham mourning for his beloved wife Sarah. Abraham was a man of faith, a friend of God, but that didn’t exempt him from sorrows and tragedy. But we also will see that God’s promises can’t be exhausted in this life. His promises to us are fully realized when we wake in HIs presence.

Having integrity and geing true to our word is vitally important to God, as Jesus teaches in the Sermon on the Mount. Why is that? As Pastor Gary says during his study of Matthew 5:33-37, we are Christ's ambassadors, so our integrity, or lack thereof, directly affects how others view Jesus.
What do rainbows, vineyards and capital punishment have to do with each other? Well, they're all discussed in Pastor Gary's study of Genesis chapter 9. After Noah and his family disembark from the ark after more than a year on board, God makes a covenant with Noah, and Noah prophesies a cursed future for the descendants of Ham, one of Noah's three sons. Even so, God provides a way of salvation for the descendants of Ham ... the same way He offers to us today, through a new covenant in His own Son's blood.
In Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, he clearly teaches about God's position on divorce. During Calvary Chapel's Sunday, June 21st service, Pastor Gary explains when divorce is Biblically permissible for a Christian, and how important Biblical marriage was and is to Jesus today.

Pastor Gary continues his verse-by-verse study of the Gospel of Matthew and his look at the Sermon on the Mount with this teaching of Matthew 5:27-29: "A Higher Standard"
“You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery. But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell."
God takes no pleasure in judging mankind, but just as He eventually did in Genesis 7 when He sent a global flood to destroy all humans and creatures not safe aboard Noah's Ark, God will soon again judge this world. Pastor Gary says that time is short and securing one's salvation should not be delayed, because the day is coming when it will be too late to be saved, just as it was for those not on board the ark during Noah's day.
