What can you do when you are on a sinking ship, metaphorically speaking? There are times when you are legitimately sinking or at least it feels like it. You’re overwhelmed, more and more is piling up on top of you and it’s not fun to be you.

I find that this topic comes up a lot this topic of being overwhelmed in over your head, too much to do, feels like I’m sinking, a bunch of different activities happening. Help! The ship is sinking and I’m on it. Help is on the way!

An important topic is the relationship between performance and stress. There is a relationship captured in several articles that shows that performance increases with stress but only up to a point. When the level of stress becomes too high, performance decreases – aka I’m on a ship that is sinking, I’m about to drown. There's more: The shape of the curve varies based on the complexity and familiarity of the task.
