Saturday, August 1, features Stakes races in some different places. We begin our journey with the Saratoga Special for two-year-olds at of course Saratoga. The Jim Dandy, a showcase for three-year-old males, is next before heading South to Colonial Downs in Virginia. The Arlington Million highlights our visit to Colonial and we finish the day at Del Mar with the grade 1 Clement L Hirsch Stakes. Back a horse and get paid!!!

We begin in New York with a pair of graded Stakes races including the Coaching Club American Oaks for 3-year old fillies. Saturday, July 18 is a HUGE day on the Thoroughbred racing calendar. We begin our journey with a grade 1 race on the Saratoga turf. Next up is the biggest day of racing on the Jersey shore. It is Haskell day at Monmouth Park and we explore stakes races on turf and dirt including the $1 million Haskell. We finish at Del Mar with a pair of Stakes races on opening weekend at the Seaside Oval. Back a horse and get paid!!!
Join us on July 11 as we preview Stakes races in different places. We begin on the Saratoga turf and then head to Indiana for Indiana Derby day. We finish our journey in Iowa as it is Iowa Derby night. Back a horse and get paid!!!
Independence Day is our Uncle Sammy's 250th birthday and another great day of Thoroughbred Racing. We begin our day at Ellis Park in Henderson, Kentucky with a turf sprint race and then head north to Saratoga in New York for a trio of Stakes races. We finish on the west coast with a sprint Stakes race on the Los Alamitos dirt. Back a horse and get paid!!!
We are all about Churchill Downs on June 27. The 12 race card features 7 Stakes races with 2 of them granting automatic entry into the Breeders' Cup for the winners. The biggest race of the day is the grade 1 Stephen Foster and it carries a $2 million purse this year. Back a horse and get paid!!!
We begin our journey on June 20 with a stop at Thistledown for the biggest day in Ohio racing. The Grade 3 Ohio Derby features 10 three-year-old males running for $500,000. We bounce to the West coast for a Cal-bred Stakes race before returning to Churchill Downs for a night racing event, the Chicago Stakes. Back a horse and get paid.
Saturday, June 13 offers Stakes races across the country. We get out of the gates with three Stakes races at Monmouth Park in New Jersey. Our next stop is Churchill Downs for a race on the main track for three-year-old fillies. We complete our journey with a sprint race at Santa Anita on the downhill turf course. Back a horse and get paid!
Saturday, June 6 is all about Belmont Stakes day. Seven graded Stakes races decorate a fourteen race card. We will take a look at four of these races and culminate with the $2 million Belmont Stakes. Back a horse and get paid!!!
Saturday May 30 is all about Churchill Downs. Overall there are 7 Stakes races on the card worth a combined $1.975 million. We will take a look at five of those races with two being for the girls and three for the boys. Back a horse and get paid!!!
It's Memorial Day weekend and that means hot Thoroughbred racing action across the country. We begin on Saturday with a turf sprint in New York at the Belmont at the Big A meet. We travel to Churchill Downs for a turf Stakes for older fillies and mares and then finish at Santa Anita with three California-bred Stakes races. On Monday we enjoy graded Stakes action at Churchill and Santa Anita. Back a horse and get paid!!!
The third Saturday in May means …it is time to Preak out…it is Preakness weekend!!! We head to Laurel Park in Maryland where there are 9 Stakes races on a 14 race card. We get things going with a couple of sprint Stakes races and then culminate with the grade 1 $2 million Preakness. Back a horse and get paid!!!
It is one week after the Kentucky Derby and the Thoroughbred action is off and running. Our first stop is New York for three Stakes races at Aqueduct including the Peter Pan, a local prep for the Belmont Stakes. We head to Churchill Downs for a turf sprint next. We finish our journey at Santa Anita for a run down the hill in a turf sprint. Back a horse and get paid!!!
Wow, the weekend we have been waiting for, it's Kentucky Oaks/Derby weekend. Let's get out of the gate first with the 152nd running of the Kentucky Oaks on Friday. Three-year-old fillies will be going a mile and an eighth with eyes one that blanket of Lillies. On Saturday, May 2, it is Kentucky Derby 152 as the three-year-old boys run for their share of $5 million. Back a horse and get paid!!!
Wow, it is only one week until the Kentucky Derby! Let's take a ride around the country and enjoy Stakes action from coast to coast. We begin in New York, then head to South Florida. It is opening day at Churchill Downs so naturally we stop there before heading to Oaklawn Park in Arkansas. Our day finishes with graded Stakes action on the turf at Santa Anita. Let's jump out the gates and get rolling on Saturday April 18. Laurel Park is our first stop as we examine the Federico Tesio Stakes, which offers a birth in the Preakness Stakes. We head to Keeneland next for a pair of graded stakes for older male horses. Oaklawn Park hosts the $1.25 million Oaklawn Handicap which matches the top two finishers in the 2025 Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes. Welcome to the final edition of Friday Pony Picks for 2023! Saturday, November 4th is all about the Breeder’s Cup at Santa Anita. Danny gives his picks for the 1-million dollar Filly and Mare Sprint, the Breeder’s Cup Mile, Breeder’s Cup Classic, the Turf Sprint, and the Breeder’s Cup Sprint.
Let’s hop into some stakes action on Saturday, October 28th! First, we’re heading to Belmont at the Big A Meet for the Grade II Forty Niner Stakes. Then, over to the heart of horse country for Keeneland’s closing weekend—Danny gives his picks for the Bowman Mill Stakes, the Bryan Station Stakes, and the Hagyard Fayette Stakes.
This Saturday, October 21st, we start off at Keeneland, and Danny gives his picks for Race 6, the Perryville Stakes, and Race 9, the Grade II Lexus Raven Run. We finish the day at Woodbine with Race 9, the Grade III Ontario Derby.
This week, Danny talks his picks for races on Saturday, October 14th, and Sunday, October 15th. First up, we’re going to Belmont at the Big A for the Sands Point Stakes, then over to Keeneland for the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, and finally to the west coast to Santa Anita Park for the California Distaff Handicap. We end the weekend of racing on Sunday at Keeneland with the Franklin Stakes.
