When Bonnie Gibbs came to Crozet United Methodist, she knew pretty quickly that she wanted to be involved with the United Women in Faith, then known as the United Methodist Women. “The women of the Joybelles Circle reached out to me right away and wanted me to come join them,” Gibbs said. At that time Gibbs was still teaching over in the Valley back in 1987, which made it hard for her to get to everything the Joybelles and the UWF did, she got involved. “I wanted to be part of this group of women coming together with the love of Christ and the mission to go and serve others.”Serve others is unequivocally correct. The UWF is a bedrock organization for Crozet UMC, instrumental to how the church operates and an incredible place for women to plug into the ministry of the church. The group – one of Crozet UMC’s largest with 44 members – supports, completes and starts mission work from the local to the global. “It is an organization of women whose main mission is to serve others,” said Gibbs, now the organization’s president. “We want to spread hope, love and peace to women and children and youth all over the world.” 
They do that in a host of different ways. Through the church Christmas Bazaar as well as Yard and Bake Sales, the UWF raises money directly for mission work. Recently donations at the yard sale supported UMCOR relief efforts in the Ukraine. “Some people may not want to go beyond the local,” Gibbs said. “But I feel like we need to help those in need in the United States and around the world.”Helping those around the world goes way beyond raising money though for the United Women In Faith. The women also come together for Missions and Merriment – the next event is coming up May 1 – where they produce sewn products to be taken to Advancing Native Missions. 
“Like pillowcase dresses or blankets – lightweight blankets – to go to areas where people are refugees,” Gibbs said. The church’s two major circles, the Joybelles and Rebeccas, meet monthly and there are quarterly luncheons of the entire UWF membership. While there is fun, food and even games at circle meetings there is also some serious work getting done! 
Programming and learning helps establish relationships and fellowship that leads to a better understanding of how to maximize the group’s impact in mission work. That programming can cover just about everything from the organization’s long history of working for racial justice to the reason for why UMCOR was founded and the work they do. “Everything we do is for mission work and I just get really excited about that,” Gibbs said. 
Knowing a little or a lot about the situation the United Women of Faith can help with can make all the difference. Like those blankets produced at Missions and Merriment for use around the world in refugee camps.“They have to be lightweight so that these people can wash the blankets in the river during the day and then lay them out to dry so they’ll be dry to use that night. That is the kind of mission work that I want to be a part of and I want everyone to understand how important the little things we do can make such a big difference in people’s lives.”That’s truly the kind of difference we all should aspire to make and the United Women In Faith are one of the organizations that have been and continue to set the standard for how we do mission work here at Crozet United Methodist. On March 21st, 45 of Crozet UMC’s Justice Ministry members and their guests joined over twelve hundred other justice seekers from 26 faith congregations affiliated with IMPACT Charlottesville. The gathering, both in-person at the MLK performing Arts Center and by Zoom, was IMPACT’s Annual Nehemiah Action. This was IMPACT’s opportunity to obtain commitments from County supervisors, City Council Members, and the Charlottesville School Superintendent in response to IMPACT’s issues of affordable housing, public transportation and the environment, and early childhood education and care.
The meeting was a resounding success in that:
- City Officials agreed to push for dedicating at least one third of resources spent on affordable housing to new construction.
- County Officials agreed to focus near term efforts on establishing an Ordinance for the Affordable Housing Trust Fund.
- City Officials agreed that future planning for the bus system will consider transition to alternative fuels with the goal of lowering carbon emissions.
- The City School Superintendent promised to assess and accommodate the need for after school care for all preschool students.
The above steps are small but do represent real progress towards achieving justice for our less fortunate siblings in our area. To quote Martin Luther King Jr., “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice."
Our Music and Arts ministry is excited to announce the return of Concerts on the Corner at Crozet UMC, a series of concerts in the church sanctuary on Sunday evenings April 16th, May 20th and June 22nd! The first concert features gospel group Jubilation, an anointed group of singers who minister in song to help deliver the message of God. Doors open at 3:30 p.m. on April 16th. Concerts are free and open to the public, a good will offering will be collected to benefit the Crozet UMC Music and Arts Ministry. 
Last year’s Easter Breakfast was an incredible time of fellowship and fun after the debut of our new sunrise service and we’re excited to bring it back this year. Dedicating Easter Flowers that adorn the altar in the sanctuary is a long-standing tradition at Crozet UMC and we're happy to bring it back this Easter season! We've got three ways you can give $20 for a dedication. You can fill out the google form linked here and on the church website or you can call the office during the week and we'll take your dedication over the phone. The Lentadoodle prayer sheets are available online now if anyone would like a new copy or if someone is participating from afar, we’ve heard some people mailed Lentadoodles to grandchildren or nieces and nephews. It’s never too late for kids to jump in on the Lentadoodle action. You can still get one on Sundays. Just let Pastor Sarah or our communications director Bart Isley know you need one! Prayer Sheets

It's that time of year again! Registration is open for this year's Vacation Bible School at Crozet United Methodist Church. VBS will take place June 26th-June 30th 2023 in the mornings each day that week. Children who are at least 3.5 years old (who are fully potty trained, i.e. independent in the restroom with minimal accidents) through rising 5th graders are eligible to attend. Vacation Bible School is free at CUMC and we ask that you complete one registration form per child. Questions may be directed to our Director of Children's Ministries, Victoria Raymond, by emailing her at kingswood@crozetunitedmethodist.org or calling/texting her during normal business hours at 434-823-1258. United Methodist clergy are itinerant - sent, not called or hired. "Itinerancy" refers specifically to the commitment by pastors to go and serve wherever their bishops send them. The goal of this process is to match, as much as possible, the gifts and graces of the particular pastor with the needs of a particular congregation or ministry setting. Each year in the life of United Methodist churches, church leadership engages in the pastoral reappointment process where churches discern whether or not to recommend a pastor be appointed by the bishop. We’re currently in that time of discernment this year. This year, the district superintendent has requested that we let you know that process is happening and provide an avenue for all range of feedback for Pastor Sarah and on the current state of the church. We have set up an email address for feedback@crozetunitedmethodist.org that you can use and will automatically send your feedback to all members of the council, unfiltered. This will allow your voices as members of the congregation to be heard in this process. To be considered in the process, feedback must be submitted by January 23rd.
