A show about digital pinball on mobile, PC, and console from the industry's leading game developers. You'll be treated to segment favorites such as "BlahCade Speculation", interviews with industry leaders, and other tangents (including "real" pinball news) that keep the format fresh and topical. The show originates from the East Coast of Australia and the West Coast of California, with new episodes available when news is worth sharing (which is pretty regularly).

The long-awaited Volume 6 for Williams Pinball is finally out, but we have other stuff to talk about this episode.
Is Farsight producing new tables again? Does Zaccaria now have a pinball cabinet on the market? It turns out the answer is "yes" to both questions.
Also, Chris has done something different with YouTube and sliced things up a bit for you. Where we have videos I've added them into the show notes for you.

It certainly must feel frustrating when you are starving for content and no one is dishing it out to you. This is how many Zen Pinball fans are feeling about 2020 because Zen has not released any tables since early this year.
Fear not! This does not mean that Zen Studios are in trouble. Nor does it mean that they are losing the Williams license. Listen in as we unpack the year to date and help you understand why releasing pinball tables has not been the focus of the studio.

Both of these companies announced they are releasing products this year, so let us take a closer look at what’s going on in the other product camps.

If you could purchase officially licensed music for some of the movie franchise tables in Zen Pinball FX3, what would you pay?
Yes, the cost of music licensing is a well-known factor in how much table packs cost. So if you could separate the licensed music and offer it on-demand for a reasonable price, would you go and shell out your clams for it?
We also talk about the cost of buying DLC packs for long-running franchises like Guitar Hero and the staggering price that adds up if you "gotta catch them all" from a song perspective.

It's another week on little to no news about Williams Pinball and other Digital Pinball platforms, so Chris and I go into other stuff as we typically do.
I talk about the prep I've been doing on Star Race to get it ready for The Ekka this year.
Chris talks about getting decals printed so that he can bring Fire Power back to life again. Well, that's after he clear-coats the playfield and drags the spaghetti wiring harness back into place. Oh, and after he staples the earth braid back into place again and re-attaches all the components.
Chris also talks about his foray into writing for websites that are designed to get advertising clicks and not offer particularly engaging content. But hey, it pays the bills (well, sort of).
Jared is off to help level Pinball machines at The Ekka, so this episode will carry until next weekend when we may have some news to share.

Plenty of hardcore pinball app folks on Android and iOS have been complaining about how much grinding you need to do on Williams Pinball to get ahead.
Zen Studios will be releasing a table pack approximately every 8–10 weeks.

Because you now have seven tables to spread your parts over, it may become difficult for new folks to the platform to unlock a table to the two-star level so they can play them in the basic and advanced daily challenges.

In software development, running experiments to test out hypotheses is an important part of product management and product development.

When you play a video game, you do it to have fun. What is fun to one person differs, but in general you usually want to either complete the game or unlock everything in it.
So what happens when your experience is interrupted by a game funding model that sucks the life out of your enjoyment of the game?
You get a bad case of the Smurfberries.
We explore a few recent examples of In-app Purchase (IAP) models that are at the expense of the game experience. We also talk about the effects of an unbalanced "buy it now" model in free-to-play games.
To balance it out we also give you some examples outside of digital pinball where IAP doesn't need to be gross and distracting.

There's a point at which you just shake your head and say "nope, that's too far".
For some, it is when you change even the slightest part of an original item to meet today's censorship laws. For others, it ranges from "a bit is OK" to "hey, I really couldn't care less".

There's nothing more to say really, apart from getting on with the job of listening.

In this podcast, we'll dive into some speculation about how the evolution of the Williams and Bally licence properties changed hands over time.
We're also going to focus in on some evidence-backed timings that are critical in understanding how the changeover between Farsight and Zen may have happened.
There's also coverage of the FX3 Williams Pinball public beta to go through, including some opinions about how the DNA of the Alpha is being diluted in the Beta.
Also, a big welcome to all our new listeners. It's great to have you along for the ride during this exciting time in digital pinball.

The Community Manager from Magic Pixel gives us some welcome news about what's in store for fans of Magic Pixel's Zaccaria Pinball.
We round out the show with some fun from the Netherworld Sideshow and a surprising turn of events at Chris' Tournament he attended recently.

It sucks, doesn't it? There really isn't a lot happening in the world of digital pinball at the moment.
When this happens, we always seem to find stuff we can put into a show. So get your glass filled with the lemonade of what lemons are around: it still tastes good.

Still no news about what's happening with WMS, so in this episode, we go back in time to one of the first table releases that Zen Studios published: El Dorado.
We delve into the history of releases that Zen Studios have produced and how their table design DNA almost marry up with the history of pinball table design in real life.

How can four little words spark so much rumor and speculation? We investigate the four little words show friend Brad Baker from VPCabs uttered about WMS Licences.
We also check in on Zen and how they freely allow commercial use of their games (for the right price, of course).
Farsight have released the re-organised pack structures, and people are grabbing their pitchforks. We offer some suggestions about how to overcome the problem.

Because the Pinball Arcade Fans forum has evolved over the years, we are at the point where we need a name change. If you can give the community a leg-up with that, then weigh into the thread.
The main event this week is the leak from Steam that reveals the most downloaded games, based on titles with Steam achievements. There are some surprises in the mix that even had us a little confused. All are linked in the notes for you to click through and check them out.

Well, it's official. You can no longer purchase WMS tables from Farsight. It's a bit of a sad day and an end of an era for Farsight Studios, but it could be the beginning of a brand new phase for the studio. Time will tell.
We shirk the bad vibes and have a chat with Greg Holden from Spacies Arcade, who did a great YouTube Vlog on the Arcooda Video Pinball cabinet. He's got a host of great questions from the communities' viewpoint, which makes for a great perspective and a great show.

We get straight into the thick of it this week with a deep-dive into how the Kinect Views on the Arcooda Video Pinball cabinet actually work in reality.
There are some definite caveats to the feedback Chris has about the cabinet version Farsight have, and we're pretty transparent about these in the show.
If you're on the fence about putting money down on the cabinet, and don't have time to listen to the show at the moment we both feel it would be safe to do so.
To find out why, you'll just have to listen.

We have a mixture of things to talk about on the show, but the highlight is news about the cabinet pricing for Arcooda.
We also think about what it would take for us to re-purchase a table in TPA if it was re-released by another company (we still live in hope someone has picked up the license).

Chris found a new thing on Steam this week that shows a lot of promise for platformer fans who like a pinball aesthetic.

After a longer than usual break we return with some calm before the ensuing storm.
This episode was recorded two weeks before the WMS licensing issue announcement went public.
So this episode doesn’t cover that.
There’s some news about us then some news about Zen and their Star Wars: The Last Jedi release which is a breath of fresh air.
Farsight has also been busy with some update action to Pinball Cadet, Pinball Tournaments, and Pinball Arcade. We’ll give you the low down there.
We round out the show with some restoration news.

Netherworld held a fantastic Pin Golf tournament this weekend, and Zach and Jared hit the course hard (with pics to prove it).

In this episode, we look at Bally/Williams pinball machines that were better than the movie for which they are licensed.
There is also news about Zen Pinball on Samsung OculusVR, and Arcooda gets some follow-up analysis about backglass support.
Plenty of pinball to sink your teeth into this month. Enjoy.

We're back with your prescription for digital pinball discussion.
In the front sections, we talk about the new tables (_Dr Who_ and _Marvel: Women of Power_) from FarSight and Zen Studios, which both should release shortly after this podcast drops.
In the back section, Chris talks about his week of working with kids on set, the magic hour, and some shows you may _not_ want to check out.
It ends abruptly: the bouncer kicked Chris and I out of the backroom because we weren't wearing the right type of shoes.

It’s all about crowd funding in this BlahCade.
We talk Kickstarter, now that the Doctor Who Kickstarter has successfully funded.
The Zaccaria Steam Greenlight push has succeeded and now Magic Pixel (formerly A.S.K Homework) are doing an indiegogo campaign to raise some funds for cool PC features.
We also touch on TPA mobile graphical improvements planned.

Here is a rather pinbally BackRoom. We have a dig at some of the seemingly recurring themes that are emerging on the Forum and the Kickstarter zeitgeist. When re-listening to the podcast, it was clear that while some of the Kickstarter suggestions are perhaps a bit misguided, they all have one goal in mind: to have the kickstarter succeed. And that is worth discussing. So keep thinking of ideas, and keep on being passionate.

There is so much content in this BlahCade that we made the call to split some of it off into a BackRoom episode while recording it. That should give you an idea of what to expect. If it doesn’t, then you should expect this episode to contain a motherlode of digital pinball discussion again.
We focus on Zen Star Wars Ep 8 digital releases (no spoilers), Zen Balls of Glory / Fox Animation tables, and A.S.K Homework’s foray into Steam for their Zaccaria product.
We also touch on FarSight’s Dr Who Kickstarter, but the real meat to that discussion is in the BackRoom, which will land later this week. We also break the sad news about table of the week.

Plenty of pinball in this huuuge installment. So huge that Jared couldn’t break down the episode into separate segments and still hit the Tuesday PM deadline. ;)

Has it been a month already? In this super-sized installment (it runs for about 40ish minutes) of the BlahCade, we spitball the Pros and Cons of Pro Packs, we talk about “The Dude” in TotW, and engage in URL alphabet soup in TotM. Jared has a few issues with connectivity in this episode, so there is a disclaimer. Pesky Wi-Fi.

We also talk about the F14 Tomcat Beta as well, and a few Known Issues to look out for in this release (that are out of FarSight’s control).
Lights. GAMERA. Action is the TotW. Chris talks about how messed up the theme is on this game, and the exorcist-like woman between the flippers.
It’s a new dawn. It’s a new day. It’s a new life. And we’re feelin’ good.

Come for the April TotM recap, geek out during Jared's Tech Talk, wallow in the goodness of DX11 support, and nod your head in approval as SYT froths at the mouth over Mad Max. And then there's the tangents. Oh, the tangents.

New BlahCade is up and it is quite the show! It's called Big Nuts for reasons purely pinball related, we swear. This time around there is a dramatic recreation of the interview Jared did with Zsolt of A.S.K. Homework featuring Bonzo as the voice of Zsolt. Ton of questions answered, not to be missed. There is also a LitZ despite Sean not being in this session, but that didn't stop SYT! Full results and discussion of March TotM, with shoutouts for those that like hearing their names. And of course more.

It's a new year, and a new BlahCade podcast! This go around Shutyertrap, Jaredmorgs, and Jeff Strong do a very free form pod, because holidays. There is a list of SYT's favorite and least favorite movies he saw in 2014. Also we introduce a new word that needs to start trending now, 'continbute'. And on a side note, there is a brief discussion of DX 11 that is a little less relevant now that new info has come out since this was recorded. Enjoy our inane meanderings, and start up a conversation with us!
