If there’s one thing that we all know for certain, it’s nothing lasts forever. That’s why, if we put all our time, effort, and love into things that fade away, we’re only going to be disappointed in the end. We’ll be left with nothing. The good news is that, as believers, we know that there is one thing that does not fade away. One thing that is real and true. One thing that will really last forever. That’s our relationship with God! As Christians, we’re called to live real lives based on the stuff that really lasts. Rather than put our energy into the temporary, God calls us to put our eyes on the eternal. (1 John 2:15-17)

You’ve probably heard the old saying, “You want to put your best foot forward.” In today’s world, this often looks like a perfect picture on Instagram, an effortless climb up a corporate ladder, or a well-mannered family. Of course, while none of these things are terrible, they’re not really the whole story. But there is one place we can go to find the one who wants to see it all— the good, the bad, and everything in between. God! God doesn’t just want to see the highlights of who we are; God doesn’t want our best foot forward. Instead, God wants to meet our authentic selves. His light in our lives can illuminate who we are in Him. It can lead us to real lives lived as our real selves!

David Powlison created the tongue-in-cheek “Anti-Psalm 23,” which begins, “I’m on my own. No one looks out for me or protects me. I experience a continual sense of need. Nothing’s quite right” But there is something so much better available to us, if we would only go at the Shepherd's pace. In the second sermon of our series on the famous Psalm 23 we hear about what God has to say about how we use our time.

For many Christians (especially Western, Evangelical ones...) the idea of Hell as a place of eternal conscious torment that everyone who doesn't give their life to Jesus is destined for is pretty central. We often go so far as to try to "scare the hell out" of people in order to get them to "turn or burn."But what does the Bible actually say about hell?

Prayer is personal communion and dialogue with the living God. Seen from a biblical perspective, prayer is an opportunity and a privilege rather than a burden or a duty. As such, prayer should not be limited to structured times but should also become an ongoing dialogue with God as we practice his presence in the context of our daily lives. (Ephesians 6:18)

When God created the world he created rhythms: day and night, weeks, months, seasons. When sin entered the world so did work, and slowly that work eroded away the rhythms of life. In Egypt the Israelites were slaves (literally) to work. There is no mention of weeks, months, seasons. As soon as God rescues the Israelites he reintroduces the idea rhythm. In Exodus 16 God includes rest of those rhythms. The rhythm of God is the rhythm of rest.

WHY GOD…do I struggle with anxiety and depression?Jesus is victorious over everything, right?Sometimes we believe if we have enough faith, the problems of this life will go away. Mental health is a huge issue and, for a long time, the church counted it all as a faith issue. We do believe that anxiety and depression can be caused by spirits, but sometimes it is just a result of living in a fallen world that includes illness, imbalance, and chaos. In this sermon, we’re going to peel the complicated onion of anxiety, depression, and why a good God won’t just take it all away.1 Peter 5:7; Proverbs 29:25 ABOUT THIS SERIES:Life is full of challenges, trials, and difficult circumstances that can leave us questioning God's purpose and presence. We're continuing our journey through the gospels, starting on the gospel of Mark this week. The key image in Mark is of stormy, chaotic seas, and the key question addressed is, "How do we face suffering?" In Mark, Jesus models how to live in and deal with suffering and grief, while also remaining hopeful in the presence of God.

Week 2 of our series exploring how God's many names tell us exactly who He is. God is proclaimed healer many times throughout scripture, but do we actually think God is holy or powerful when life is hard or when we cannot see God working or hear Him speaking?
You can find out more about us and what we do at TheFoundryChurch.com
Genesis 22:1-14
Our names are important to us. The first question we often as a person is, “What is your name?” As we get to know people, their names become more than just words on a name tag; they bring to mind the personality and character of the person.
In the same way, the many names of God revealed in Scripture tell us much about who He is. Those names invite us to know Him in a growing and intimate relationship. In this series, we’ll examine 4 of those names more closely. And in doing so, we’ll get a glimpse of the infinite God that we are forging our life on.
God reveals Himself fully so that we might experience who He is in all His fullness.

Every person is created in the image of God. Is the image of God singular, or vast and multifaceted? If it’s true that every person is created in the image of God, why do we all have different perspectives? Why do we find ourselves coming to different conclusions about a particular issue? Maybe we do well to think of God as a mosaic. As we live into the fullness of who we were created to be, we each serve to reveal various aspects of God. And as we live in community, we collectively display a more full and tangible picture of the heart of God. In this series, we explore the nature of God, the nature of ourselves, and the nature of each other for the sake of reclaiming God’s intended reality and creating a better you and a better world.

When the glory of God has departed in our lives, we have two options. If we are to become what we were created to be, we need to repent of our brainless exchange (Romans 1:22) and recognize the glory we have been desperately missing: the glory of Jesus who is the perfect image of God (Col. 1:15).
When we make Jesus our king and place our trust and allegiance in him, the Holy Spirit begins to reshape us to our original created glory.
So, which will it be… continuing to worship idols which disappoint (money, sex, and power) or bowing the knee to Jesus?
Will you open your eyes to the glory of Jesus or settle for stupid shadows?

Prayer invites us not just to ask God for the things we need, but to step out of the way and invite God's priorities to become our own. When we invite God to focus and direct our attention towards God's will, we begin to see the bigger picture, to see things as they truly are, and not simply as we are.
