Are you OKAY? Don’t be too quick to answer that question. (Pause and think). Maybe you’d say, “I don’t have a fever, a dry cough or any other symptom of COVID 19. Yes, I’m OKAY.” Or, “I have my health, my home, and my family, so Yep, I’m OKAY." Alternatively, you might say, “No, I’m not OKAY! I’ve been locked up in my house for weeks with my stir-crazy kids, and I’m running out of toilet paper!” Or, “I’ve lost my job, my rent payment is late, and I’m unable to buy groceries this week. I think that qualifies for being NOT OKAY!”
Fair enough. These are very difficult times, and many of us are struggling through a set of circumstances, unlike anything we’ve ever faced. This Sunday, I’d like for us to consider whether the circumstances of our lives are actually the best barometer of whether or not we’re OKAY.

Karl Kakadelis explores the subject of how we identify ourselves. Many of us view ourselves by what we DO. Learning to see yourself the way that God sees you is a different way of thinking, and we have to learn to live contrary to the familiar.

In the summer of 2003, the Northeast United States experienced a widespread blackout that spanned multiple states. For what seemed like several days power grids were down and American families had to spend their nights without electric light and air conditioning. I remember where I was, do you? My son, Bobby, and I were on a father/son trip to the city of my birth, Detroit. The power went out while we were on the road, but we kept traveling and ended up having a very memorable time.
Sometimes it feels like the lights go out in our spiritual lives. Maybe you’ve experienced dark and difficult times that cause you to feel afraid and disoriented. This is not only the experience of unbelievers- we Christians go through those times as well. The message looks at a passage in Isaiah that has become one of my life verses. It describes two possible ways we can respond to dark times.
I will be sharing about one of the darkest periods in my life and how God sustained me through it. I hope you’ll come and be encouraged by the truth of Scripture.
